Surprised To Find A Truly Legit Indie Brewery In Ensenada! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/wendlandt-cervecer%C3%ADa-ensenada?select=SekpB3xxz69D0pCi04N6Eg&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w SITREP We took an excursion through Downtown Ensenada Mexico - mainly to find amazing tacos and delicious fusion Mexican pizzas - when around the bend we came upon Wendlandt Cervecería Brewery (aka "Brewery"), this very modern brewery that pumps out several delicious varieties of beer. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/wendlandt-cervecer%C3%ADa-ensenada?select=qpktsri_HdbO_Fbriabueg&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE SETUP The Brewery is AS MODERN in terms of Mash Creation, Brewing Infrastructure, Steel Barrel Storage, etc., as any modern brewery as I could find here in Sacramento. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/wendlandt-cervecer%C3%ADa-ensenada?select=_yhlbOvv0y99XqeP-9hLEA&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE BEER The differentiation their process permits for sequestering and making Pale Ales, Sours, and others is quite extensive. * FOCA PARLANTE (Stout) - this had the rich, earthy flavor I was looking for that was extremely pleasant to sip; https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/wendlandt-cervecer%C3%ADa-ensenada?select=oYRXdWm8SUa0_AuaSts0DA&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w * NIEGA (Ale) - this was the refreshing brew of the batch and I needed to enjoy more than just one bottles worth of this treat; https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/wendlandt-cervecer%C3%ADa-ensenada?select=taUo8qqfxYTqn2fRvhuhyg&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w * DEL MAR (IPA) - this would stand it's ground with the best IPAs here in Sacramento; https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/wendlandt-cervecer%C3%ADa-ensenada?select=EOzJGV1tRi1HvdS_XMMfug&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w Their shipping distribution there was quite prolific while we were there. Quite a market has developed for Wendlandt beers! THE LOWDOWN Excellent beers made in the heart of Ensenada.

I went here on a tour from Carnival Cruises. The beer is good, view is gorgeous and the sea breeze felt amazing on a hot day!

    Fraudulent charges by this business.
    Daniel V.

Owner is a fraud. Told us he can't manually enter a credit card charge yet the charge was verified as manually entered by the credit card company. They manually entered a charge pending/processed on 7/26/22 for a dated charge back on 4/25/2022 that never occurred. If you go there, I suggest paying cash only.

Como se dice? Oh yeah, fantastico! Came here on the last leg of our wine tour and needed some beer (don't judge!) to round off the day. Wendlandt was the best! Right by the shore, great beer, and great food. Trust me, you wont go hungry. As for the beer, you can't beat the Humpy Humpy, Perro Del Mar, Vaquita Marina. They all knocked my calcetines off!

They also have a bar with well drinks for those non beer drinkers . Highly recommend its a cool spot. We were there on a Friday and it closed at 2am. A hidden gem for beer lovers. Very casual

And it's right on the water. Which as a Pisces i gotta love. Why the five stars? You can get VEGAN tacos here at the seafood spot. Which is literally impossible to do anywhere else in town. And they're really delicious. My non-vegan friendly partner in eating loves them too. They also have vegan pizza I'm told, though I myself haven't seen it and can't confirm. I'm attaching a photo of my friends all accompanying me in vegan taco, so you know I'm not lying. Because it's hard AF to be vegan in Ensenada.

[So mind the wet weather when considering "when" to go, and if the vehicle you're in can handle the potholes a foot (or more) deep.] THE SETUP We followed staff down rustic stone and wooden steps, past several different covered alcoves - almost Tiki in vibe - until we came to the cantina we all were invited into. Their partner-business Ochentos shared their pizzas with us while we sampled the brewery's beers. The varietals were tasty from their pale ale to their brown. The environment was exquisite with it's rustic norms, including the prima dona felines that made their presence known and purported ownership over the grounds we were proceeding. THE LOWDOWN A very fun trek to explore an out of the way brewery and some pretty tasty pizza. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/el-chivo-gru%C3%B1%C3%B3n-villa-de-ju%C3%A1rez?select=nQaP-BTNQeK0t4svUmAkxQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w

The spot is actually a straightforward 5 minute walk from the ABC bus terminal in Ensanada's Zona Centro (downtown) area. The brewery is located within a food hall called Pasillo Central where you can buy tacos, burgers, pizza, and other delicacies to go with your craft beer if you wish. It's a fairly small brewery with a smaller selection of beer than I expected (maybe about 7 or 8 beers on tap at the time). Tried a few of the beers, including the Mike IPA (named after Mike Ehrmantraut of Breaking Bad fame) and the Cenicienta, a light (4.5%) golden ale. Was less than impressed with both. The best beer I tried was probably the Luna Roja, a darker red Scottish ale which was pretty good, though not great. The beer prices were solid. 65-70 pesos (around $3.25 to $3.50) for a pint (16oz) and only 20 pesos (around $1) for a 4 oz taster. But wasn't impressed with the place overall quite honestly. There's no air conditioning (only fans) and only one TV in the tap room, though they did also have a small projector screen showing the Monday Night Football game. Bit of a hipster vibe here that might appeal to some. But overall just seemed like a smallish bar that slapped the "Breaking Bad" name on it for the name value. Wasn't impressed but could see myself going back if I happen to be in that area of Ensenada again. They do have a happy hour Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 7 pm.

Once you find the door, keep walking down the long, "under construction" hallway. No, you aren't going the wrong way. No, there wasn't an earthquake. No, this isn't a scene out of a home renovation show. Just keep walking, and you'll find the tap room. It's located in the very back, and it's basically a large, unfinished, concrete block room with an old piano and some tables and chairs. Fancy it ain't, but this is all about the beer. There's a small brewing facility that looks 100% legit homegrown. No fancy hipster junk here. The beer menu is clear and prices are far from bargains. Expect to pay what you would for a pint in any American bar. We had a light and dark beer, and both were tasty (the dark especially - tasted like chocolate). The bartender spoke good English and we were warmly welcomed. Since this place is still a well-kept secret, we were there with only one other customer (some super weird dude who looked like Pablo Picasso and dressed like Jeff Goldblum and was asking a ton of scientific questions about their brewing process). This is a place for real beer nerds, that's for sure. They've got the marketing down as well, with a not-quite copyright infringing logo and they give you stickers if you ask. A little bummed that our beers were served in normal glasses, would've been super rad if they were served in laboratory test tubes or jars or something. Owners are big fans of "Breaking Bad," obviously.

Easy walk from the cruise ships, it's on a side street (Av Riveroll) just across the main road. Everything is on draft, with great prices (at least by US standards) of about $4 a pint. They have bigger brewers like Wendlant, Agua Mala, and Border Psycho, but also plenty of others to explore. I didn't try the food but it looked good. The service was EXCELLENT, they were patient with our questions, let us sample a couple, and found the NFL playoffs for us on a nice, big TV. Already looking forward to my next visit!!!
