Great experience. We did the wine tasting outside by the pond. The vibes were great and customer service was excellent. We could definitely enjoy hours here.

Fun experience. We did a tasting where we had to guess which of the smells is not in the wine we were tasting. The person attending to us had great energy and was attentive. The view was nice.

Two Tasting Experiences: Aromas y Sabores/Aromas & Flavors: $980 Pesos ($61 USD); Cata Excepcional/Exceptional Tasting (single varietal blind tasting): $980 Pesos ($61 USD), as of our 8/8/24 visit. Each tasting included four pours and a small charcuterie board. You can also purchase bottles and sit and enjoy in the winery or covered patio. We've been coming to Valle de Guadalupe for about 15 years now, however this was only our second visit to Monte Xanic. The winery and property are beautiful, and they even have 3 or 4 EV chargers onsite. I was a little put off that they only offered two "gimmicky" tasting & tour combos, but we ended up choosing the "Aromas y Sabores", which started with a winery tour, and ended with a game of guessing three aromas for each wine poured, choosing the one aroma that didn't belong, and guessing what they were. Alejandra "Ale" was our hostess, and she was absolutely wonderful (especially putting up with my initial attitude). During the tour, she stated that Monte Xanic is the fifth largest winery in Mexico with an annual production of 100,000 cases. The wines are well made, but like our first visit, they didn't really connect with our palates. That being said, you should always try for yourself, as everyone's wine palate is unique and what I dislike, you may love...and vice versa. I'm not going to tell you what we tasted, as that may spoil it for someone who's just going to visit, however it was a white, a rosé, and two reds. Overall, Monte Xanic is a beautiful winery with well-made wines, good service, and amazing views. Unfortunately, their wines are just not exactly what we're looking for. It's definitely worth a visit.

Deck area for Tastings. Across the lake, the main Building.

Went during the week as a group of 4. We didn't have a reservation (so we did not get to visit the main building/area), but we were able to enjoy the deck area for a tasting. The deck area is quite large with ample seating. There were two other groups when we arrived, but they were so far away it felt like we were the only ones there. Arrived before Noon, stayed for nearly 2.5 hrs. Atmosphere: 5 Service: 5 Wine: 5 The wine we enjoyed here was one of our favorites during our trip.

We love VDG, but not so much the wines as they aren't as good as say Paso or Sonoma. So we try to only do 1 winery when we come to not be disappointed or waste time. We rather spend $ on the incredible VDG food scene! I've had an eye on MX for awhile. For about $28 ish, you can do a tasting with a mix of whites and reds. The winery is lovely, very well established and a nice tasting area along with the barrel room. They give you a little tour first then you get to sit and enjoy the wines and views. The wines were not that bad. I would say definitely one of the better ones in VDG. We found maybe 2 that we liked and even bought 2 bottles of the white one. If we didn't have a huge lunch after, we would have tried some food. Great service too! Put MX on your VDG wine tour!

I enjoyed my time at Monte Xanic. It's a beautiful winery with a lot of history. We made a reservation for a tasting and tour. We got to see the inside of the winery in which they had built into the cliffs. The views were stunning and the wine was also pretty solid. Our server/ tourguide was very knowledgeable on the property and history. I docked 1 star because our server had told us that we could bring 1 bottle per person back through the border and the rest would be a $1 tax. This information made us decide to buy a few bottles. When going back to the states, we learned that there is no such thing as a "wine tax" and you cannot bring multiple bottles of wine back.

Cheese board - the red pesto is incredible!

I really enjoyed the wine here. it was our first stop and it was perfect. This place is reservation only, so book ahead! We were taken on a tour of the production area and then we sat outside to enjoy our tastings. They had three options of tasting packages ranging from $32-$39 per person (USD) that generally had 4 pours each. We snakced on a delicious cheese board and enjoyed the modern building and beautiful lake overlook. The server spoke English very well and was able to tell us all about the wine and its flavor profile. she did an excellent job. If you're looking for photo worthy locations with good wine - check this place out.

Wow! We've tried Monte Xanic wines before, so having the opportunity to visit the winery and to do a tour and tasting was very special. The actual property is gorgeous, and the wines are very reasonably priced (we brought home quite a few bottles). Definitely will be returning again and again.

We came here on a rainy weekday and it was a surprisingly good experience. We normally gravitate towards more boutique wineries but we visited with friends who hadn't gone to VDG before and wanted them to experience one of the larger wineries in the region. We made reservations for a tour & tasting and while the tour was short and dismal, the tasting pours were delicious and generous in size. We also ordered a cheese board which was pretty good. We sat at a table inside by the window and it felt like the best seat in the house. We'll definitely make this a stop again the next time we're in the valle.

Definitely our favorite winery and tasting experience from our most recent trip to the Valle. First off, friendly reminder to make a reservation in advance to ensure you get past the gates and into their incredible space. Though they are one of the oldest and largest wine producers in the region, the winery itself is surprisingly intimate. We definitely enjoyed the boutique feel. After a smooth check-in, we opted for the $28/person premium tasting. The employees cleaned off a table with incredible views of the lake and valley. Mariel took outstanding care of us. She was thorough and thoughtful in her explanation of the wines, as well as just plain warm in her demeanor. We enjoyed everything we tasted. The limited edition Syrah Cabarnet and Calixa blend particularly stood out. Such a serene, relaxing, and pleasant experience. Having experienced this, I'd allocate even more time to spend here -- can't wait to return to enjoy an entire bottle! Cheers.

My husband and I spent a few days in Mexico and wandered around the Valle for a full day. Monte Xanic has great views and the Grenache was quite good (think a dry rose'). Their cheese and bread plate was good. The cheese was mellow and the bread was drizzled with olive oil. The set-up needs some work. You pay first, then they seat you and then either deliver your wine to you or serve you at the tasting bar. It was a warm day when we went but were seated outdoors and upstairs with a smaller bar. It wasn't ideal, since there is limited seating and the group we met couldn't fully be seated with us but we made it work. Had the seating been more comfortable, we would've stayed a lot longer.

One of the best wineries in Baja California and a pretty good tour. We liked all the wines. The restaurant was delicious, service was great. Recommended.

Service dogs only.
Mina M.

The views are really beautiful here. Make sure to make a reservation beforehand. The wine was fairly good and the staff did a good job of explaining each wine and spoke good English. The place is tucked away so it does feel very peaceful and quiet up there. Note that dogs are not allowed unless service dogs. Our dogs are service dogs and we still had issues at the main gate when entering. We did enjoy it here and would recommend visiting. We bought two bottles of wine to take home and enjoyed them very much.

I was thrilled to see an email on Saturday saying we were welcome for the 2nd tasting of the day and then filled with panic as I saw when it was sent, didn't have service and that time was quickly approaching. Thankfully i got wifi, replied that we would love to be there, got a reply saying we were good to go and off we went. I will thank our luck a large amount on the weather as many people cancelled due to pouring rain and flooded roads. The roads are rough, especially in the rain so a larger vehicle or a tour driver would definitely be beneficial but we made it happen. Upon arrival we were greeted with hugs, conversation, drinks and blankets and it honestly felt like we just showed up to the home of a family member. With the weather, it ended up just being the two of us and another couple who drove out for the day and previously was married at the vineyard which made for the most intimate afternoon tasting. My fiancé (oh that's still weird to say haha) is not really a wine drinker and I don't usually drinks reds but we both loved all 3 years of the tasting and the tapas that come with each were so delicious. One of the pairings was a taco with meat that I don't eat so I gave it to him and was more than thankful when Hilda noticed and asked her team to make a potato taco for me to take part. With the impeccable vibes, Carlos decided this was the right time and place and completely unbeknownst to me he had let James and Hilda know about his plan and they assisted in the greatest intimate proposal I could have ever dreamed of, rain and chilly temperatures and all. After our tasting we all spoke around the table like we had known each other for years and it really was the most special day and experience I could have ever asked for. We will definitely be back sooner than later, especially since we both fell in love with not only the humans on site but vineyard good boy Corcho. Thank you both for your hospitality, I honestly can't express it enough.

Our driver down to Valle was named Elias and made the whole process so simple! He picked us right outside of where we came out after crossing the border. He was super friendly and wanted to make sure we were comfortable for the drive. He told us a little bit about Valle and how he's lived there for 25 years. On my way back, I had a different driver, who was Natalie. She was super nice and the ride back was so quick, probably because it was the morning and traffic wasn't too bad in Tijuana yet. She was helpful in directing me to find the line to cross the border. Without the direction from her, I would have definitely been confused. They made this whole process so seamless! But over the last two decades they have made large strides in quality with new modernization techniques. Besides all of the wine makers that have been here for generations, others (Spain, France, and Italy) from around the world have joined in wine making in the area. The area has all of the basic ingredients (proper climate and soil) needed to make great wine. The area sits in the same latitude as the great wine making areas of the Mediterranean. As a result, now I am a big fan of the area's wine. Now many compare the area to Tuscany Italia before the big tourist rush occurred. The greater area is also home to many Michelin rated restaurants with a great ocean/farm to table menu (carta). Organic and sustainability are fully represented in restaurants as well. If you love seafood, then this place is heaven because of the abundance of fresh seafood from both the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific. I predict that once the new airport in Ensenada is built then this place is going to explode with tourism. Currently, having to fly into Tijuana then take a bus or private transport has been the only way to reach this area from most places in the US with the exception of southern California. People in southern California are lucky enough to drive down for a weekend because it's just that close to them. It's the equivalent of people from Chicago spending a weekend in wine country in Michigan, Indiana, or Wisconsin. In all honesty there is no comparison because most wine in the Midwest is mediocre at best. The problem in the Midwest is the climate extremes which are not suitable to most popular wine varietals. Even when I do find wine from the Midwest that I like, it usually has at least $50-$60 price tag. At a typical grocery store in Spain or Portugal very good bottle of wine is sometimes cheaper than a bottle of water! Under $10 a bottle pricing gets you very good wine, above that you can have even better quality. The winery is beautiful even in the winter. I like to visit in the winter because although it's not super warm here, I go from wearing a winter jacket to wearing a light jacket or sweater. The nights can drop into the 40s which is still much better than a winter polar vortex back home. There is a lot less people, therefore, I can also get into the best restaurants in the area. My rental flat had absolutely no neighbors until the last day when it was time to leave. The isolation was very nice because the grounds are beautiful and very full of life. A huge assortment of birds make this their winter getaway from the harsh winters up north. Citrus fruit was in season down here and the neighboring property had an orchard of trees filled with oranges. The property has a few nice pathways to walk after mealtimes. I also enjoyed the outdoor wine tour which explores the different varietals fields with an enthusiastic guide that was quick witted with jokes. The wine pourings that accommodate the tour were delicious and wisely chosen. I also opted to take the wine cave tour right after the outside tour. How was the cave tour? It was disappointing and frustrating. First of all, as I patiently waited to be taken down to the cave from their gift shop area they forgot about me. They have a list of who is supposed to go down and yet they still went down without everyone?!? Finally a cashier notices that I'm just walking around not shopping and asked me if I was waiting for someone. I told him that I was waiting for the cave tour to begin. He got a hold of the tour guide who had already gone down with some of the group and he came up to retrieve us. Those that were already in the cave, already had been served food that was optional to order with the tasting. After several pourings in the previous tour, yes, I was ready to have some food to lessen the impact of more pourings. Also, they had a nice selection of items that would complement the pourings. Somehow, they forgot about me again, and I noticed others were getting a different presentation than I was on the same tour. Okay, now a sense of frustration is overcoming me and I mention the oversights to the guide. He lied to me and told me that the others had a different level of wine tasting. This disorganized tour was also set up backwards because there should have been a walking tour of the fermentation area first then tastings afterwards. Besides the bad cave tour that I definitely don't recommend. Everything else was great with the exception of the cold washroom on cold nights. They have very nice employees, beautiful grounds, very good breakfast, and a great dinner restaurant called Latitude on the property. Would I come back? Yes, because besides a few frustrating moments the rest was great.

About an hour and a half drive from the US/Mexico border stands El Cielo ready to welcome you into their quiet neighborhood surrounded by lush lands and hills often grazed by their many cattle and other livestock. Within the vicinity, you'll find little, but a few high end eateries exist. The dirt paths are roads less travelled, however, you're not too far from the port city of Ensenada. As you drive into the long entrance to the main lobby, you'll notice the openness of it all. The horizon is just barely obstructed and the land is extremely flat with the exception of the hills nearby. The property has a lake and serves as a beautiful and serene place to take a walk. In the evenings, the stars are extremely clear and bright against the pitch dark sky. Bask in the tranquility as the only sounds you'll hear are the occasional croaks from the native frogs or chirps of crickets and whistling night breeze. If you came during the day, however, and haven't melted already, the first step out will be a shocker due to the immense heat you'll feel being just a smidge closer to the equator. The staff greeted us with some cold glasses of refreshing white wines as we checked in. Upon getting our suite and room keys, they offered to shuttle us to our rooms but if you drove in yourself, feel free to drive on over and park in the driveway. For those with electric vehicles, they do have charging available right outside each suite. The rooms are spacious, well ventilated and adequately illuminated. The beds are soft and the mattress and pillows are super comfortable. The bathrooms are clean and modern; water pressure is good. Amenities were appreciated - bottles of drinking water (was told to refrain from consuming water from tap in Mexico so this was a big plus), clean towels, hygiene and supplemental kits were available, and mirrors were abundant (long, standard, and close up). Each room also comes with a TV and localized air conditioning and fan unit, giving full control over room climate. There's also a balcony but it was much too hot to be out during the day. The evenings were cool and provided a nice place to sit back and enjoy the stars. There's a shared outdoor pool, a gymnasium and a chapel house. I only got to use the pool and it was relatively clean aside from the occasional bug that might have fallen in. There were towels and chairs for patrons to use. The lake was a nice stroll but it's not too big and much of the path is fully exposed to the sun. Breakfast occurs between 8-9:30 am at the main building on the second floor. They'll check you in at the front desk for your name and room number and you'll have the option to sit indoors in the dark but elegant dining room or outdoors on the patio. The food is self service and included a variety of options including eggs, beans, meats, dairy, nuts and fruits. They also have a dessert section where I got to try a chia seed parfait with fresh berries. Orange juice and coffee are also served with your meal. The service is phenomenal here. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. For non-Spanish speakers, it wasn't too difficult to communicate our needs. Overall, El Cielo is a great vacation spot to disconnect from all your worries and engage in the present. There's not a whole lot to do here specifically, but the downtime offers room to connect with your loved ones. With its proximity to other hot spots and eateries, El Cielo proved to be a humble and comfortable rest spot in between the tourist attractions, explorations, and wine and dining. If you're looking for a place that has nearly everything taken care of for you to enjoy a stress free vacation, El Cielo has you covered. You just need to make your way down here!
