I couldn't believe it. My childhood photos, my tax records, videos of my newborn's son's first giggles, first teeth, first steps... all gone. Not to mention the work project that was due in one week's time. All because my beloved hard drive - which I had for years - stopped working without any warning.
I live in Winthrop, WA, where there is no repair for this type of emergency. In a sweat, I Googled "Hard Drive Repair Near Me," and Wenatchee Computer was the first result to pop up. I checked out their website, gave them a call... an answer on the first ring with a real human, who immediately connected me to another real human, who said they'd drive an hour to meet me that same night if I did the same.
Although I had to bite my fingernails for the length of time it took to wait for the data recovery, every time I called or emailed to check in on a new ETA, I was met on the other end by a human who had an answer.
At the end of the day, every single byte of data was recovered. Every. Single. One. I listened to a voicemail from my mom that I had secretly recorded while we were on speakerphone; I looked through photos that I forgot I had from my baby shower; I laughed at documents containing poems I wrote back in high school.
I can't tell you if the price was fair or not, but these memories were worth every penny. I didn't even think to compare to any other company, and I certainly plan to make sure something like this never happens again.
