I saw Dr. David Welmerink when I was younger for my initial orthodontic needs - retainer, braces, retainers again, and then a permanent retainer. I always had a wonderful experience (despite the pain of course). The staff have forever been warm and welcoming. They are patient and gentle with their patients and I was so happy that my orthodontic work was done through them. Dr. David Welmerink always had me laughing and made me feel so comfortable throughout the process. The results of my treatment were absolutely wonderful. My teeth had unfortunately shifted after my wisdom teeth came in, so my retainers no longer fit. I was able to get a new retainer and we opted for the permanent one as well. This did the trick for about 10 years, but after a while they kept shifting and the permanent retainer was becoming uncomfortable. I came in recently to have it removed and talk about my options. Two years ago I was offered Invisalign, but it was out of my budget. But, last September I was told that Invisalign now offered a touch-up option for a very affordable price and I couldn't be more excited. It was 14 weeks of treatment and my teeth look and feel fantastic! I am once again confident in my smile and am so thrilled to have been able to utilize Welmerink Orthodontics again. During these recent visits I had the pleasure of working with both Dr. Adam Welmerink and Dr. Megan Utter. Dr. Adam reminded me of his father and has his same gentle/warm demeanor. I have really though about whether or not up update my review, and it brings me no pleasure to write again and lower the stars only because Dr. Adam and the staff are SOOOO nice. My son's treatment plan wasn't cheap, we spent $1500 out of pocket for a palate expanded to basically correct the path of ONE tooth. The whole experience for him was miserable. His tongue was constantly lacerated to the point of bleeding, he could hardly eat and lost 5# (and he's already a slim kid). We tried everything to make it more confortable, wax shields, dental wax...nothing seemed to help. It was a 9 month course of treatment. The reason I'm writing now is the "complimentary" follow up treatment approintment is basically an up-sell for...you guessed it! BRACES!!! My gut feeling is these palate expanders are some new hussle for parents. And I think it's a "scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" relationship between Champagne Pediatric Dentistry and Welmerink. Unnecessary, expensive and basically worthless if the end result is the recommendation for braces anyway. I feel like put my kid thru 9 months of discomfort for nothing. read more

I can not RAVE enough about this entire Orthodontist office! Ok a little background my daughter had her braces here, now my son. We have been patients here off and on approximately 7 years. When we were searching for an orthodontist I sought my friends reviews. We got over a dozen answers back. We got back about 12 suggestions. Out of those 12 Welmerink received 4-6 recommendations more than any other orthodontist. Our dentist also recommended Welmerink. So we interviewed three orthodontists. We also found out the Welmerink has a ton of experience and had been a orthodontist for awhile. We then asked our daughter which one she liked. Her response was "Welmerink because they talked and asked me questions and didn't treat me as a nuisance." The other two offices didn't even ask her any questions. They did try to tell her if she came there she would get a load of gifts etc. (Gifts equated to me things I would end up to pay for). Plus when we had entered Welmerink there was a Welcome (personal child's name) my daughter was thrilled to see her name on the welcome to our office sign. The whole interview was aimed directly at my daughter. Then they asked her questions then us. A totally different approach than the other two offices. When my daughter had her appointments they always remembered what school she went to, that she was competing on her schools speech and debate team. I don't know how they remember all their patients names, parents names, siblings names and interests. AMAZING The day after my daughter received her braces Dr. David Welmerink called and asked me how she was doing, after talking to me he asked to talk to my daughter. Both my daughter and I were very impressed that he made a call after hours to check on how she was doing. My daughter began to see Welmerink when she was about 12. Her teeth were very crowded and I was very worried that if we waited her teeth wouldn't be able to be fixed. We asked if we should start right away. He said not until she lost her baby teeth. But that if it was a matter of self esteem that we should start sooner. He again said the same thing to my son about self esteem. I love that both Dr.'s were concerned about the emotional well being of their patients. She did not loose all her baby teeth until almost 16. He then told her she would be in braces approximately 2 years. I think she got them off a little sooner. Due to the fact that everyone's teeth behave differently, everyone takes care of their teeth in different manners. My son got his braces put on June 14th of this year. Again the day after he got his braces on Dr. Adam Welmerink called to check on how my son was doing. After talking to me he then asked to talk to my son. My son was pleased that his orthodontist was concerned enough to call him after hours to check on him. This is my take on the office: Dr. David is the father of Dr. Adam. To me that says a lot. One it says to me that Dr. David was a great parent. Two it says that Dr. Adam was an incredible son. How many of us could work with our parents? They really are very kind and concerned about their patients. Both of these gentlemen are just that gentlemen and care about their patients. They always ask me about my daughter and tell me to say hi to her. (My daughter is now 19) Today when we walked in the office staff said hello and called me by name asked my son how he was doing and asked about my daughter. They are always all so sweet and kind. I took a picture of a few of them with their permission of course. These guys are so wonderful. The clinical staff are also kind, caring and efficient. I don't think we have ever had to wait more then 10 minuets (I am usually always early) before a clincal assistant comes to get my child. I also like the fact that if my son has a question about his braces he can email his clinical assistant and she will answer in a timely manner. We went in today for a tightening and were out of the office in 15 minute I love that they care about the self esteem of patients. The whole office is devoted to the well being, health, teeth and how correcting your teeth can change your physical appearance and confidence levels. The whole office from front to back and both doctors all genuinely care about their patients. This office does community outreach several times a year. This is one place I RAVE ABOUT!! read more

My daughter just got her braces on when we found out we had to move. Luckily I found Welmerink Orthodontics. They made the entire process of transferring her treatment so easy and seamless. I'm sad to write this review. I got my braces done by Dr. Welmerink when I was in middle school/high school. Now, 15 years later, I am needing major dental work due to the lackadaisical and negligent that Dr. Wilmerink did that cause my bite to be slightly off, causing years of wear to my teeth due to bruxism and resulting in TMJ disorder. As someone who comes from parents who had no education and spent their hard-earned money on my teeth, I am extremely disappointed in Dr. Welmerink. I have been coming in for years to get my retainer refitted and never once was it brought up to me that my alignment was off. Further, when I received my braces I developed a staph infection which I later found out was due to Dr. Welmerink moving my teeth too quickly, allowing for bacteria to enter into my gums. Doctors Welmerink and the Staff at the Sparks office have made my adventure into adult orthodontia a pleasant one. The ladies at the front desk always have a smile and a hello, and they remember each patient by name. The gals in the back go above and beyond every time! They take the extra time to make sure I have the supplies I need and there are no "pokey" wires that will cause me grief in the coming weeks. Both father and son Welmerink are knowledegable and personable. They also offer in-house interest free financing (I refer to braces as "the car in my mouth") for those that qualify. read more

My sons past medical history (5 surgeries and multiple ER visits in one year) led to him having extreme anxiety in medical environments in the past. He had thankfully overcome it years ago but today's appointment to get braces on brought on all the anxiety My poor guy was nearly in tears in the waiting room when I shot Nicole a look. She came out to say hi and took him on a tour of the back to distract him Jo kept him giggling with conversation about how middle children are the best And Dr. Adam even busted out the Speak Out game and played with B to take his mind off of that uncomfortable device "See?? I would give no stars except I should probably give them credit for answering the phone. We live in California and my son was visiting in Reno for 2 weeks. He just got his braces off 2 weeks earlier. The dog ate his top retainer and his normal orthodontist said it was crucial that I find an orthodontist in Reno to rush a retainer or his teeth would move before he got back to California. This office couldn't have been any less helpful. They told me 2 weeks for a retainer since my son wasn't one of their "de-band" patients even though they just said I would have to pay for new patient exam. Wouldn't that make him their patient? Then she said they couldn't rush because their lab "wasn't set up that way". Whatever that was supposed to mean..... It was apparent that they just did not want to help or go outside of their normal procedures. Maybe because it was the week between Christmas and New Year and they didn't want any extra work. Disgustingly horrible customer service. I called around more and found the most helpful and understanding poeple at Orthodontic Partners with Dr. Bruntz. It seemed that they really wanted to help. I was panicking and they made no promises but assured me they would do their best and we got a retainer in 2 days. Now that is good service! Take note Welmerink! read more

Alright. So I'm going to write about my "experience," since apparently my previous Yelp review was REPORTED by someone (obviously a staff member who was offended by my previous but HONEST review). Anyways, I would give zero stars if I could. The ladies at the front desk are always very friendly and are the ONLY smiling people in the office, so I guess they deserve one star. Whenever we come here, the nurses seem very tired and the overall experience is extremely awkward. My son and I once waited 30 minutes after our appointment time in the lobby and another 30 minutes at the chair. We were told to "wait" and not once did anyone come by to check up on us, and everyone seemed oblivious to the fact that we were there. Though I got the cheapest deal on my son's braces here, cheap never means high-quality. The ladies changing my son's wires are always leaving too much wire in the back, and they constantly scratch and poke the back of his mouth. We also get the feeling that we're just another pair of "customers" to them, not valuable patients. If I had known, I would've taken my money and gone somewhere else. This place is just busy busy and never seems to have time to just SIT DOWN and DEDICATE some time to each customer. It's obvious that their ultimate goal is money and they'll do anything for the money and good PR. I have other accounts I would like to share, which would shed some light on their hidden greed, but obviously these people profusely check their Yelp page and quite frankly I don't wish to be tracked down the next time my son and I visit for his checkup. My son went through his 1.5 year course of braces with Dr. Welmerink, who was always kind and professional. It has been a constant struggle to get an appointment time (even months in advance) to meet my scheduling needs as a parent and my son's schedule. To make things worse they closed the Somersett office near us, which means additional drive time to Sparks. He's had his braces off almost 2 years now and we can't seem to cut ties after permanent retainer has come detatched multiple times now. Again, call for an "emergency" appointment and you are waiting 2 weeks to get in, taking off work and school and driving across town. Front desk staff is always friendly but staff seems to lack any sense of urgency surrounding appointment times. Constantly waited 15 + minutes beyond original appointment. While I understand things come up, the office moves in slow mode and doesn't seem to understand our time is valuable. read more

I can not say enough good things about the office and every person who works there. This office is professional, kind,knowledgeable and fair priced. I never waited more than 5 minutes in the waiting room even when I was a few minutes late. The staff is amazing!! I had my favorites of course that were always great with time, patience and gentle. I was worked on mostly by Dr.Adam which I can highly recommend he takes his time to listen to you and is very good at what he does. I was new in town last year and had already started my treatment in S.Cal (where Orthodontists are a dime a dozen ) and was 8 months in. I I new just a few people here and did my best to ask around for recommendations. I had one quote/consultation with another Ortho that wanted me to basically start over with treatment and replace my standard brackets with Damon brackets. Also start over with a full price even thought my teeth had made great improvement from where I started from and I was just about half way through treatment (originally 18-20 months). This was all out of pocket due to my 30+ age and Insurance coverage. I was ready to fall to pieces when I walked out of the first office. But then I went to Welmerink and everything changed. They were affordable and I did not have to change my standard brackets to the Damon brackets. I also didn't have to start all over with treatment time. Now my braces are off and I couldn't be happier. read more
