Im here on Business in Johnson City Tn Carnegie Aweome Hotel. I ordered the Steak & Eggs With Pancakes the food was not hot nor had any Flavor. The place looks Great Service was Horrible. Lastly I requested the bill the server gave me the bill ran my card. I requested a water to go she said she had to do a room service delivery left me like I was no one stated she would give the the water when she returns. We ate here for brunch this morning. The food was really good and you get a pretty solid bang for your buck. I got an omelet and it was a pretty hearty serving. It was loaded with toppings so much that most of it wouldn't even fit inside the eggs! The potato wedges were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just how they should be served! The server was great and the food came out quickly. Not a lot of people here at the time we went and that maybe because it was a Friday in the late morning! After a long day of driving we finally arrived at our hotel Carnegie. Very nice and warm. Because we were tired we opted to eat dinner at the hotel restaurant, Wellington's The ambiance of the place was very warm and appealing . Very pleasant waitress gave us excellent service, thought the wait from the kitchen was longer than expected. If you have never had "Crispy Salmon" this is the place to come. i supposed it was cornmeal based and pan fried. It was so pleasantly different. Tow of us had the salmon on salad ( pear and gorgonzola salad was to die for.) My husband had the pork loin with brussel sprouts which were mixed with pecans. Also a very tasty meal. Wellington's Restaurant at The Carnegie Hotel is our favorite place to dine when we are in town from Chicago! The atmosphere is gorgeous, warm, inviting, and the food is simply out of this world. The filet is our favorite, with mashed potatoes, collard greens, and then a delicious cheesecake dessert. The staff is friendly, and very knowledgeable; Adam at the information desk goes above and beyond to accommodate any and all special requests. They all do an excellent job there each and every time to give us and our guests a very memorable evening! I look forward to dining there again next time I'm in town :) read more

The restaurant and Bar and Wellington's is awesome!!! While we did indeed eat at the restaurant and in fact held a very large bachelorette party there. However, my husband and I began our stay at the hotel where the restaurant resides, in the Gorgeous Bar and could not manage to tear ourselves away for over two hours. The decor draws you in like a comfy men's smoking room or an old parlor created with the most masculine of taste. We sat in large leather chairs and admired the vast bourbon collection and I cruised the wine list. Later we enjoyed a cheese tray without the meat which was to die for of course. The cocktails were super interesting but refreshing. We actually returned later the same evening for nightcaps. During the weekend we returned and tired the restaurant which had equally interesting decor and very good service. The kale salads, fried green tomatoes, and wraps were all divine. The breakfast menu was also extensive and portions are very very large!! Service is very good although one of our events did seem to overwhelm the staff (26 people). We were sort of large in numbers. The outdoor patio near the pool and the inside library bar beyone the normal bar are perfect for a digestif. It was a very pleasant restaurant, especially to be inside a hotel. The bar closes way to early every night especially on weekends...and both the hotel and restaurant close from 2pm-5pm when the bulk of people check in to the hotel. A hotel of this quality just should do better than that!!! read more

Wellington's makes a stay at the Carnegie Hotel even better, but you certainly don't have to be a hotel guest to enjoy this fantastic restaurant. For breakfast, I highly recommend the Southern Benedict - Wellington's great take on Eggs Benedict. At Wellington's, it comes with a fried green tomato, salty country ham and a remoulade sauce (instead of the traditional Hollandaise). Delicious! I always order Eggs Benedict whenever a restaurant has it on the menu, and this one is one of my favorites. Prices are very reasonable, and service is excellent. Dinner is very nice here, too, with a great selection of appetizers, including Deviled Eggs. (I don't know why more restaurants don't do Deviled Eggs.) Wellington's is a great choice for any meal. read more

This was one of the best dinners I've had in a long time. I went on a special night out with my grandfather and our waiter, Sam, was so delightful and knowledgeable of the menu. We took his suggestions and were so thankful we did. I had the filet mignon and my grandpa had the deconstructed steak and they were to die for. The Cabernet Demi glaze was perfection. Rather than meander aimlessly around Johnson City in search of dinner, I landed in Wellington's due to its proximity to the Carnegie Hotel (attached) and the glowing recommendations provided by the hotel front office staff. I was a taken aback at higher prices than I was expecting, but I was THRILLED with the quality of the meat and cook of the steak I ordered. I had the deconstructed Wellington med-rare, and get this - IT CAME OUT MEDIUM RARE. That doesn't sound like much, but in this day and age getting a correctly cooked steak usually requires grilling it yourself at home or luck of the draw. Food and service were both commendable, and I'll likely stop in again during my next work trip to Johnson City. read more

Great atmosphere in a very nice building. Has a reputation of being expensive (one local said he couldn't afford to eat there because a slice of bacon costs $7). I had a burger for lunch and it was $9. The service is great, the food tastes good and the ketchup was served in a silver gravy boat. read more

Our state's ID law for alcohol allows the use of common sense where a patron's age is obviously well over 21. My 71 year old wife was refused service for no ID. All 9 of us at the table were required to show ID. At age 73, I was the youngest besides my wife. Once served, one in our party asked for another wine before he had finished all his first glass. He was told he could not get another until he had finished the one he had. Oh, and the minuscule print at the bottom of the menu stated that a 19% gratuity would be added for parties of 6 or more. Since nothing more was revealed about it I'm sure that servers often enjoy extra undeserved tips from less observant customers. The food was fair and the service was poor. read more

Had dinner tonight with my wife for her birthday. Restaurant is beautifully decorated and we were fortunate to have a seat by the fire. The Maitre de was pleasant and accomodating. Went here for Sunday Brunch on Mothers Day. The restaurant was slow, not surprising after our experience. Service was horrible, food was cold and the Brunch was ridiculously priced. Oh, 19% gratuity is automatically included. We were a party of two and there was NO service. Never agian. read more

For breakfast, the Southern Eggs Benedict (with fried green tomato) is a must. Try the deviled eggs for an appetizer at lunch or dinner. Those are my two go-to favorites. Convenient and decent food for hotel guests, outdated sort of 80s dishes but nice service and the extra star is for the impressive bar and crazy whiskey selection. I wouldn't go here if I wasn't staying at the hotel, but if you are and don't want to venture out, I'd give it a go! The bartender was great and all staff nice. read more

My husband & I dined here last night in celebration of my birthday, even after having a bad experience on Mother's Day. The food is always very good, but the waitstaff leaves a lot to be desired, even when they aren't busy. It took longer than it should have for us to receive two drinks from the bar & waitress to return to take our order. Bread was promised twice but we didn't receive it until we had finished our salad. Dessert was slow coming too, even though they had taken our order for it before our dinner arrived. The free dessert was a good laugh. There was only enough for a couple of bites. The one thing this place has going for it is its decor. There's no place like it in the area and for that it gets three stars. The food on the other hand could be found in numerous places in the area: O'Charley's, Cheddars, Chilis...the list goes on and on. In fact, Cheddars' monte cristo is much better. read more

Have to say the wait staff was awsome ! Our waiter knew the menu inside out. Food was perfectly cooked and delicious. Try the fried chicken livers !!!! I never bring my cellphone to the table but wished I did. The plates brought out were beautifully presented. I was more impressed with the bill. I expected our bill to be atleast a $100.00. Pleasant hotel and restaurant. Also called the Carnegie Hotel. Hotel is a grand old dame with lots of wood paneling and old style atmosphere and charm. Service pleasant, room fine, clean, well laid out. Health club is small but ok. Pool outdoors and closes Labor Day alas. Across the street from the ETSU campus with a walkway over the busy highway. Restaurant also stately, service good. Excellent choice of beer, limited wines. Standard fare with no surprises. Burgers and fries fine. Bananas foster dessert was tasty and flamboyantly prepared at the table. Breakfast the next day, a la carte, was fine but not fancy. Good choices on the menu. A very pleasant stay. read more

If you have a gluten allergy, beware. It was attached to our hotel and we needed a quick option and it looked to be priced similar to Waffle House, so we gave it a shot. Usually you can order things that are gluten free for breakfast but the home fries (I'm almost certain) were breaded. The grits were mostly cream, which might sound good but they were too rich and runny. Had to eat them like soup. Bacon and eggs were good. And the staff was very nice, especially Nate. He helped us find good hiking trails and his directions were spot-on. The menu in our room said a room service POT of coffee was $3. However, we paid $2.65 each for a LITTLE CUP (maybe 4 oz.). And it wasn't good or hot. read more

Traveling with kids, so it was great that they have chicken fingers, must ask cause they are not on the menu. Husband and I ordered a selection of appetizers rather than pricy entrees. Shrimp and grits, crab cakes, fried green tomatoes. All were good, although not amazing. Service was EXCELLENT AND FAST which was a plus after driving all day! I have been here many time for drinks. The service has always been good because the bartenders seem knowledgeable and attentive. I have eaten here once. Never again. The NY steak was worse than the quality of a TGIFridays. So disappointing. It has turned me off to going there as I think even though the quality of bartenders is great I would hate to continue to give money to a restaurant as bad as this. We came here because we stayed at the Carnegie Hotel and didn't feel like aimlessly wondering the town after a long day of driving. I had the deconstructed Wellington, come on the name of the place is Wellington's. We didn't get the bread until 3 seconds before our food arrived, the herb garlic butter for the bread was good but i felt like one second are talking and the next piles of food are being shoved on the table. The stake was cooked to medium that I prefer and seasoned well. The puff pastry served with the meat tasted like Pillsbury that sat in the fridge to long and I have no idea what the gooey mess inside of it was, The corn and green beans served with it where fresh but just covered in old bay seasoning, too much seasoning for me. not worth the 30 dollars I paid for a "deconstructed Wellington". The decor was amazing I loved the horse shoe booth for two. If your in the area and want to see some great decor and a nice atmosphere stop in for a drink but i would not recommend the over priced "wellington". read more

Terribly understaffed. Tried to get breakfast at 9am on a Saturday morning. Was told there was only one server for about 15-20 people and that it would only be 5 minutes wait. 20 minutes later I gave up on trying to eat here. Hire more servers!! read more

We visited Wellington's today for a family Thanksgiving meal and to say it was underwhelming is an understatement. There were 8 members in our party and 5 of us had to send things back at least once during the VERY long process of receiving our meal. In addition, we had to wait 40 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. From being served the incorrect drinks, the incorrect food items to food so salty or spicy (I love spice but it was insanely overpowering) that it was inedible I was extremely disappointed. The time in between courses was also ridiculous. Considering what the cost for the meal was and having to return the number of items we had to, I couldn't believe that a manager never visited the table to address the issues. Really for an upscale restaurant that is unacceptable business practice. Also, I see serious room for improvement in the cuisine. I would suggest having all members of the waitstaff and kitchen try the food before it goes to the public for consumption. That allows for various pallets to address issues such as spice, over and under salting, etc. I would hope to hear from a member of management or ownership to address the unacceptable experience my family had today. read more

We had just stumbled into town for the races and found this restaurant at our hotel. We figured we would pop in for a drink after a long day on the road. When we got there, we were nicely surprised that there was a live jazz band playing! We ended up staying until the end of their gig. The environment is like a welcoming old-timey bar/restaurant. Everyone was polite and we were served well. Food and drinks were great. We also returned for breakfast and were not disappointed. The biscuits are some of the best! read more

I was staying at the Carnegie and my wife and I stopped by the bar on our way into the hotel before heading up for the night. I got a Tom Collins which was one of the best I have ever had. We also had some high dollar Tequila and the bill still wasn't bad. Add in the nice atmosphere and it was a relaxing last stop for the night. read more
