Caliber Collision - Car in the condition that it was returned to me. They did not even provide the parts that they removed.

I was involved in a small accident in March where the other driver was at fault. There were some…read moreinsurance delays for a couple of weeks and my car was fully operable (safely) during this time and was checked out by my mechanic. The driver at fault had GEICO and since they accepted responsibility I worked with them in having an estimate done on my vehicle and this was one of their approved shops so I dropped my car off. Because the car was an older car and not very common (2012 Suzuki Kizashi) I felt there was a possibility that the cost of parts may result in the car being declared a total loss so while I was checking the car in I specifically told them that if this ended up being the case I would be retaining the vehicle. After a few days Enterprise contacted me saying they were told that my car was a total loss and asked if I wanted to purchase a vehicle from them so I immediately called the garage and asked what the status was and they said, yes, it was likely totaled but that wasn't official yet. I again told them that I was going to be retaining the vehicle and I was immediately berated and told that I absolutely wouldn't want to do that and if I chose to do that I would have to pay them to put the car back together. This was the first I had heard of them even taking my car apart. I called GEICO and they informed me that if I wanted to retain the car that I would be able to receive the car back in the same condition that I dropped the car off in and explained that they do require some dismantling of vehicles but that GEICO pays the garage for this including the cost to reassemble in the event that a customer retains their vehicle. This began a lot of back and forth between GEICO, Caliber, and myself and it went on for an extended period of time without any real clear indication of what the situation was but GEICO and I worked together on finalizing the claim and valuation of the vehicle. It was decided that the vehicle was in an operable state in West Virginia (where I live) and that issuing a cosmetic only loss was appropriate based on GEICO's review of the car (this was also confirmed by my mechanic who is not related to Caliber). I called again to confirm that Caliber was going to put my vehicle back together and they said "we will take care of it". A couple days later GEICO and I reached an agreement on the car valuation and buy back costs and I was given the paperwork to sign and the label for me to ship my title to GEICO so that they could issue the cosmetic loss title (this is a total loss vehicle in WV that is legally allowed to be registered and operate). Before sending the title off I called Caliber one last time, told them I was about to sign everything and that I would be stopping in the following day to pick up the car and even specifically asked them the direct question "It's assembled and ready to be safely driven" and I was again told "It's completely ready for you". The title was sent and the next day I got a ride to Hagerstown to pick up my vehicle. Upon arriving I found that the entire front end of my car was just gone. I asked them why it wasn't put together and they said that they didn't have the parts. I was completely stunned.... Where are they? They told me they disposed of them. Some of the parts they disposed include the bumper cover (it was damaged but usable), both fog lights (undamaged in the accident), both the upper and lower grills (again, undamaged), etc. At this point it became obvious that they were buying their time until I signed the paperwork with GEICO to complete the claim before telling me what actually had happened. From the first time I called after dropping my car off they had disposed of (maybe even sold) the parts they removed from my vehicle and it's pretty apparent the reason why I was berated about wanting to retain my car was because they knew they had screwed up but, still, they didn't tell me what they did. At this point they said I could drive the vehicle but I had to sign a paper saying that I acknowledged that the vehicle was unsafe to drive (complete opposite of what I was told just the day before on the phone). After some arguing they decided to tow my car to my mechanic and once that was done I began talking with my own insurance company as well as GEICO about the situation. The process took a while but ultimately GEICO decided that the garage had been wrong and told me that Caliber owed me the value of the parts that they disposed of and told me that I would be receiving a call from Caliber. After a week I had not heard from them and called GEICO back and they were also upset at this point because, as she told me, even if GEICO took ownership of the car the value of those parts would then be owed to GEICO. Ultimately I never did hear from Caliber again and GEICO took ownership of the vehicle and gave me an additional payout. Caliber never took ownership at all.

I took my Toyota Tacoma to Caliber Collision for damage received getting hit my a drunk driver. My…read moremood was pretty sour in the beginning. Ryan and the rest of their team worked with me and made a crappy situation as good as possible. They were very responsive with details and even with a delay on parts I was pleased with the timeliness of completion. Ryan even did some minor extra work for me so my truck looked amazing when all said and done. I have tried 2 other shops in Haggerstown (is getting hit in Hagerstown common?) and this is the shop I will be going to in the future. Cant recommend enough.
