This is More than just a service; It is love and support that she provides. Yes, acupuncture and massages are involved- but her main objective is to provide you with the understanding of what your dog needs and is feeling. After seeing her the first time, there was no doubt in my mind we NEEDED her. She is so in tune with their feelings and body language, sometimes interrupting a topic I'm ranting of, to tell me about how my dog is reacting and what he is going through at that moment or may have gone through recently. She helps me just as much as she does my dog, with her energy and voice. Her years of experience have helped her become a Superhero with her powers to heal, listen and give answers! Her Godlike ability to calm my buddy as he can be pissy with visitors and reactive with his back turned is impressive to say the least. For that reason, she sometimes advises we go to her Fairfax office when a house call isn't conducive for him needing to be comfortable during a session. She also has an Alexandria office location. She will do anything for her clients. She calls him, "my boy!" Which makes me melt because with all the animals she sees I feel like he's her favorite. I like how she lets us go to the cat side in the Behavior center, (Which has different services too) So my dog won't get upset by hearing other dogs. She will do anything she can for her clients. She has gone above and beyond for me countless times, and my appreciation cannot be fully comprehended in any words. As busy as she is, she always manages to find the time to talk with me about each and every concern I have as an over obsessed dog parent. She will go over things our Primary Vet doesn't, "have time" for. I feel like we have a support team with her. I more than enjoy our talks about herbs, supplements, medications, physical therapy ECT and how she tells me her opinions. It's meaningful to me to know what she actually thinks as many Veterinarians won't tell you or know even what you want answers for, and just reference a site from a Purina Webpage or toss you a pamphlet. She is always- careful to acknowledge that her answers and advice are either based on empirical evidence, facts, clinical trials, Veterinarian approved citing, or just word of mouth to take with a grain of salt. I don't need a Google search having Dr. Yakota, Google should be asking her! My PitBull/ Bull Mastiff mix has just turned 10 years old and we have been seeing her for a long time. Before we saw her and before her recommendation to chiropractic, my dog looked old. Now I walk him into stores and people ask me how old is my puppy!!?

    During treatment

Dr. Yokota has been treating my dog with acupuncture since August and she has been absolutely fantastic every step of the way. She is extremely knowledgeable and, most importantly, she cares deeply about her patients. We have a 100 pound senior Great Dane who has difficulty getting in and out of the car, so the home visits have been an absolutely blessing for us. During her home visits, she always wears a mask and takes proper precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Having worked at a traditional veterinary office prior to Well Whiskers, Dr. Yokota does a wonderful job of working with our primary veterinarian in order to ensure everyone involved in our dog's treatment is well aware of our dog's progress and treatment plan. When I took my dog to his annual wellness exam this past week, our vet already had all the information about our dog's treatment over the last few months. We never even had to ask Dr. Yokota to send this information over. Dr. Yokota's kind and warm demeanor always brightens my pup's day, as well as my own. Our dog loves his acupuncture days and it makes a huge difference in his day-to-day pain management. If you are looking to add acupuncture or herbal medicine to your pet's treatment plan, I strongly recommend calling Well Whiskers!

I loved that she gave us special family time with our girl as we went through the steps of the at home euthanasia. I loved that she said some words of gratitude for her as she passed, almost like a mini memorial service. It was painful, it is painful, but I don't think I could have asked for a better person to lead us through an extremely difficult decision. I see sad photos of animals here. I choose to remember my kitty when she was at her happiest, and that's the photo I'm sharing here.

Support for Injury Recovery…read more I see Shari monthly for Healing Touch sessions, which helps keep me grounded and supports me in multiple ways on my wellness and self care journey. What I have also come to realize is that Shari is a great resource after experiencing a trauma to support recovery. I had recently slipped on the steps at home and hit my back pretty soundly. Though I iced it and did other things to mitigate pain, the next day it was still quite uncomfortable. I gave Shari a call and was able to see her that afternoon. After her treatment my back felt so much calmer. And over the next few days I only experienced mild tenderness as my back continued to heal. I was amazed at how quickly I was back to feeling myself again. Thank you, Shari, for your healing touch!

She also shared her experience dealing with a beloved dog she had who was diagnosed with the same ailment. We highly recommend Shari and are grateful for the work she has done for Baxter.

Needless to say he lost the fight and needed emergency care. I called 4 nearby hospitals and they were booked solid. I called this facility and they promised to be ready to help upon arrival. I drove over an hour to utilize this animal hospital, staff met us at the door as promised, then quickly proceeded to treat him. They showed so much care & compassion! A few days ago, I noticed my pup refusing to walk even during nice weather days. His genitalia was dark red & inflamed. I took the voyage back to the hospital and received the same level of care that I remembered. They have an onsite pharmacy, so we went home with 3 Rx & an e-collar. He's healing slowly but surely. We have pet insurance and a wellness plan elsewhere, but I will pay out of pocket for the top tier service & 24/7 coverage that I receive here.

It felt as though profit was prioritized over patient care, particularly when dealing with elderly clients who may not fully understand medical decisions. While I was out of town, my mother-in-law brought in our family dog, Walter, after he fell and became paralyzed from the waist down. He was diagnosed with IVDD, yet no one at this hospital knew what stage he was in. After returning home and doing my own research, I determined that Walter was already at Stage 5 IVDD. I then contacted the veterinarian I work with at a different hospital. Based solely on the information I provided, she was able to conclude that Walter would most likely never walk again due to not receiving surgery in a timely manner. At no point did anyone at Columbia Pike explain the urgency of immediate surgery or that delaying it would drastically reduce his chances of recovery. Instead, we were told that three weeks of medication and strict crate rest would be sufficient. When I later called seeking clarification and guidance, the only recommendation given was to pay for an MRI to obtain more information. Additionally, despite knowing that my mother-in-law would have difficulty administering medications, no one offered basic suggestions such as using pill pockets. As a result, she resorted to giving Walter chicken nuggets to get him to take his medication--something that could have negatively impacted his health. This experience was deeply upsetting and highlights serious issues with communication, medical guidance, and patient advocacy at this clinic. If you truly love your pets and want the best for them, avoid this place at all costs. EDIT : I called 3 times today in the span of 11 hours asking for medical records and still have not received any.
