Last spring, our dog, now 13, couldn't walk over a curb. She had trouble even standing up. Nothing our old vet did was helping. So we decided to try acupuncture. What a difference in our dog since our first visit in June!!!! We didn't think our dog was going to make it through the summer and now she is thriving and chasing our cat around. Dr. Lipton has made such a difference in the quality of our dogs life! She really cares about both our dog and cat. On each visit she gives us all the time we need to ask questions and get advice on any concerns we have. You won't find many doctors/vets who spend so much time listening. read more

Extremely rude and unprofessional. This was our third visit and thankfully our last. The head doctor has such a superiority complex and is so utterly self -involved in thinking she knows best. We stuck it out because we wanted a healthy approach for our senior baby, but honestly it was nothing we hadn't heard or received from other providers. We were excited about getting our dog's teeth done without anesthesia but they were running behind so we asked if we could grab something to eat. They said yes, so we did and when we came back they acted like "throwing their schedule off" was our fault when we already let another customer go ahead as we were asked. They ganged up on us when we were calmly trying to explain our side and were so utterly and disgustingly rude in front of other customers. We will never be back and if you want your furbaby to get good, respectful, and informed care do not come here. read more

Dr. Lipton is a superb veterinarian--she's kind and thoughtful and offers her clients a wealth of insight and time. My pets and I have faithfully supported her business for the past three years. I own two Pit bulls, a Corgi, and a cat--thank goodness she is available for group examinations. We love seeing her and the staff, especially when they hand out treats! I am not a paid reviewer but an extremely thankful client and neighbor. read more

Dr. Lipton and team have been caring for my pup since they opened, and I am so grateful for their services. Their support is both in traditional and alternative therapies, a combination that's really hard to find. There have been many instances when I didn't know what was going on with Ruby and Dr. Lipton knew exactly how to resolve the issue. Her entire team has been wonderful to work with. Glad to have them in the neighborhood! read more

We take both of our dogs here and we are so happy to finally find a veterinarian who not only treats illnesses but also practices and teaches prevention. Both 9 year old dogs are healthier than they have ever been before. They are bright and playing like puppies with each other. We have learned so much from Dr. Lipton. I would give 10 stars if I could! read more

Meridian Veterinary Services - Dr. Lipton checking Zoe all over - Holistic Animal Care Near Me - Silver Spring, Maryland

I made an appt for two vaccines, the clinic required a $72 wellness check before administering the vaccines. The cost was given. 1) AFTER the appt was confirmed I received a call the same day (Call #1). We are 2+ years into the pandemic and they wanted to discuss their rules, people are NOT allowed in the clinic. The tech comes to the car to retrieve the pet while the owner waits in the car. They also wanted a $50 deposit and to email health records. 2) I received a call the next day (Call #2) which is the appt day requesting health records. They were sent but they failed to check THEIR spam. 3) Received now another call (Call #3). It lasted 25 and said that it had to be done to keep the appt. They wanted to review the health records and discuss them. 4) The appointment to a lot of time. They provide a recommendation with additional costs. It can be good for some but I only needed two vaccines. My reason for one star: The office changed and increased the agreed upon charges for the visit and vaccines. It felt like a bait and switch or working with a used car salesman. They have you at a disadvantage, your credit card is on file, they have your dog (remember you are in the car waiting and can't go in). If you leave they will charge you for the wellness visit and you loose money because you most likely have to pay another vet a wellness visits to get your dog vaccinated. The quote although confirmed by their office means nothing. The doctor performed the wellness visit and two vaccines as discussed. The charge was $65 more than the agreed price. I can not recommend this clinic because stiffed me for $65!!! Go at your own risk . Maybe others already knew what I didn't because Meridian had plenty of openings while other vets were booked up. read more

When I first adopted my rescue dog a year ago, I brought her to Meridian. I found Dr. Lipton to be condescending and not very warm. When she asked what I was feeding my dog and I shared that I was feeding her a very standard brand of kibble, Dr. Lipton told me that she is "not a fan of starchy carbs" and that this wasn't a good choice for my dog. While I do not buy into harmful diet and wellness culture beliefs demonizing carbs (neither for myself nor for my dog), I can appreciate having a difference of opinion. What I did NOT appreciate was the condescending tone in which the recommendation was delivered, nor the fact that when I asked what Dr. Lipton WOULD recommend I feed my dog, I was told either that I could come in for a $500 nutrition consultation (why would I need to spend this kind of money for my perfectly healthy dog?), or that I could take her to Big Bad Woof and get a recommendation from them about what to feed her. So, in short - don't feed her what you are feeding her, but I can't tell you what to do differently unless you spend more money. When I brought my dog back in 6 weeks later for her rabies vaccine, she had gained about 3-4 pounds since her first visit. I was met with a very alarmist reaction from both Dr. Lipton as well as the vet tech. My dog had been in the shelter for 3 years and 1 month before I adopted her after being confiscated from an abusive hoarding situation. For the first time, my dog was in a home where she was being adequately fed and loved. I'm sorry to say that gaining a few pounds after experiencing a lifetime of trauma was not a huge concern for me. That being said, I can appreciate that not everyone agrees with this. However, the manner in which the message was delivered was very shaming. It was at this point that I knew that Dr. Lipton was not the right fit for me and my dog. I brought my dog to another vet after this, who had no concerns about her weight or what I was feeding her. A year later, my dog is happy, healthy, and thriving. I am an eating disorder psychologist and witness the harms of diet and wellness culture every single day. I don't need to bring my dog to a place where I leave feeling shamed (not to mention unsure of what to be doing differently). read more

After setting up appointment for our dogs to be vaccinated, explaining that our dogs were in needed of the canine influenza vaccine for boarding for an upcoming trip, being assured that the canine influenza vaccine was available and in-stock at their office, and paying the required $100 deposit to secure our appointments. The week before our appointment we received an email saying that they could no longer provide the vaccines due to short supply. A call to office was met with nonchalant indifference and a complete lack of compassion. This left us scrambling to find other solutions. I'm fully aware of the shortage of the canine vaccine in the area and I'm sure this office was as well. If they were honest with us when we first booked the appointment we could have used that time to make other arrangements. This was a completely disrespectful waste of our time. read more

We have been taking Milo for monthly appointments with Dr. Lipton since his cancer diagnosis earlier this year. Given his age (15!) we have opted to not go for chemo and instead make sure Milo has the best quality of life with the time he has left with us. At our first appointment - her team took the time and care to review Milo's medical records, complete a full exam, provide intel on dietary changes/supplements AND...do some reiki, body work and non-needle acupuncture all on a very anxious, grouchy, cantankerous old pup. dr. Lipton utilizes conventional and Eastern medicine. She takes the time to talk to us at length about what we're seeing at home and provides thorough feedback/advice. Since that first visit - Milo's energy levels, appetite and mobility have greatly improved. We are glad to have found this practice and feel we are on the right path in helping Milo with his quality of life in his twilight years. read more

We took our dog Blue to visit Meridian for acupuncture to help calm him and strengthen his rear leg muscles. As part of the visit Dr Lipton did a full physical. We were amazed at the level of detail and concern she showed for our pup. Her staff are gentle and sweet and treat Blue like a prince. The acupuncture worked at calming him. The physical discovered a problem we are currently treating and look forward to future acupuncture treatments, especially around the 4th of July. Dr Lipton is Blue's new vet. Hands down, of the vets Blue has seen, she has an intensity towards our pet's health and welfare that is impressive. We feel very confident having her care for Blue. read more

We were highly impressed with Dr. Lipton on the phone. She provided us with very detailed information and was very precise with introducing us to her practice. When we arrived for our appointment we were greeted by her front desk staff, they were enthusiastic, kind and loved our babies. Once we were inside and met with Dr. Lipton, everything changed. She did not engage with our dogs, she was very disagreeable and seemed to oppose everything about what I described as our experience and the very recent trauma our dogs have encountered. I tried to still be open with her, but when her assistant tried to dominate our dog who had just been traumatized, that was it. Nothing went well. I could not and do not recommend her as a vet. I found her to be hostile and not at all someone that I would ever want to be in the company of my pets. I also have to mention that I looked at other reviews here, after our appointment and I did notice that they removed an unfavorable review. They will likely remove mine as well. It may have been that she doesn't do well with large dogs. Regardless, I left her office extremely upset and could not allow her to cause any additional harm to my baby. read more

Dr. Lipton has been a blessing for us! We did a lot of research before choosing her. Our elder cat was seriously not well, she was losing weight and developed an inability to stand up and walk without falling. I was given a 'bleak' diagnosis from another vet. I called and was able to get an appointment quickly with Dr Lipton. She combined her experience as a vet and a chiropractor and my cat is walking again and has resumed her cat-happy life! read more

We have been seeing Dr. Lipton for about 8 months, annual exam and one incident, injured rear leg. We have found her to be an expert caring vet who goes above and beyond to ensure the well being of our sugar pie, an 8 year old bichon mix. Dr. Lipton is especially thorough and has engaged well with us spending as much time as it takes to ensure that we understand any treatment or process. Before coming to Meridian, we had used Kindness Animal Hospital in Wheaton but felt it was time for a change after our long term Vet retired. We are very pleased with the service and recommend this practice. read more

LOVE this veterinary clinic. Dr. Lipton is both a traditional vet and a holistic vet. My dog had a great fear-free experience here, and he responds super well to Dr. Lipton's alternative wellness treatments like acupuncture. read more

Dr. Lipton is one of the best doctors (human or non-human) that I've ever come across. The way she cares about my dog beats any other vet I've seen. Her skilled bodywork is the tops, she reads the latest veterinary reserach and is clearly the top of her field, she is more thorough and holistic than any other vet I've seen, her level of communication is unlike any other, and she's humble and knows when to provide referrals (who are vets/vet practices as good as she is). Her integrative approach, merging many different modalities, is exactly what I was looking for. I wish I could find a human doctor as good as Dr. Lipton! If you love your companion animal as you would any other member of your family book an apt with Dr. Lipton. I can't recommend her highly enough. read more

What can I say? Skeptics of holistic vet care should step right up and give it a try. Dr. Leanne Lipton is not only an excellent vet but a great educator that teaches you how to keep the healing going once she leaves (HOME VISITS!! Woohooo!). My lovely aging dog has fairly severe rear leg stiffness, arthritis and she is a picky eater. After a few sessions with Dr. Lipton she is mobile, wiggly and working with Leanne we found some great food that she will eat. Thanks to Dr. Lipton, Fridha will enjoy the slower senior years without pain (acupuncture!). Give it a try - your pet will be glad you did! read more

Want to give your pet the greatest gift ever? Take him/ her to see Dr. Lipton who is the MOST knowledgeable person I've met with regards to veterinary medicine, animal health, care, and nutrition. The amazing thing about Dr. Lipton is that she combines a veterinary science background with homeopathic therapy to treat your pet without using drugs and invasive procedures (I myself prefer those methods as a last resort). But the nutritional info she provides is reason enough to see her. We changed our dog's diet after a visit with Dr. L and our dog has never been healthier or happier. Sure she's a bit pricey, but your pet is worth it. read more

After moving to DC from NYC, we were nervous about finding the right veterinary care for our aging dog in our new city. Almost a year after our first appointment, I couldn't feel more fortunate to have found Dr Lipton. Bonus: She makes house calls! Thinking that acupuncture might be helpful to our 15 y/o arthritic pug, I originally contacted Dr. Lipton specifically for her acupuncture service. After meeting her, I found the depth of her training and credentials as a licensed DVM and practitioner of holistic veterinary medicine particularly unique, attractive, and ultimately invaluable. In that first appointment, in addition to reviewing our dog's medical history and initializing his treatment, she assessed his eating, drinking, hygiene and sleeping habits. She was then able to advise us on ways to optimize his daily routine in-between treatment visits. Since that initial appointment, our dog has been in Dr. Lipton's regular care. Meanwhile, our dog has regained his mobility through acupuncture, massage, and various herbal supplement/vitamin therapies. In addition, Dr Lipton devised a pain management plan for him that I believe has greatly enhanced our dog's quality of life. I have also found her personalized, at home treatment rates to be very fair and an excellent value. I feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Lipton, and to have her as our dog's advocate and care giver. I recommend her, without reservation, to any pet owner seeking a highly trained and competent veterinarian with a track record of delivering compassionate home-based care. read more

I cannot adequately describe how grateful I am to Dr. Lipton for her expertise, professionalism and care of my pets. I contacted her about two years ago when the health of my cats started taking a turn for the worse. (There's a long list of what they have been diagnosed with...). She is extremely thorough and covers everything from previous veterinary care to food, water and environment. I strongly believe that both my cats have had added good-quality years to their lives under her treatment and counsel and that any future kittens or puppies I may have will also benefit from what I have already learned from Dr. Lipton. Perhaps most valuable has been my education of what constitutes good veterinary care. I had previously taken any diagnosis or suggestion from vets at face value. By going through my pets' veterinary history and seeing the inconsistencies or potential misdiagnoses, I've learned to ask better questions of specialists or ER vets and am a much better advocate for my cats and their health. That never would have happened without Dr. Lipton. It never even occurred to me although I've been a health advocate for an ailing parent and also go to a functional doctor, who took me through the same process as Dr. Lipton performed for my cats. Finally, I find Dr. Lipton extremely caring. One of my cats recently received a diagnosis that probably puts him in his last year of life. Dr. Lipton has been very supportive of and sensitive to the goals of changing his care to that of hospice/quality of life. I know she will be there until the end. read more

Dr. Lipton was recommended for my Zuna in 2007 when he was undergoing cancer treatments for lymphoma. Dr. Lipton made home visits and treated Zuna with acupuncture. She also made nutritional suggestions to help him through the treatments. I believe it gave him a better life for the time he was here despite the invasive cancer which beat him five months later. She also helped me with my other cat Marshmallow when he had crystals in his bladder....which can be fatal. She suggested he have a bladder flush rather than invasive surgery and it has been the best decision. Happy to report that four years later, with a changed diet as well, Marshmallow is still going strong and healthy. I would highly recommend Dr. Lipton. read more

I consulted Dr. Lipton after my 10 year old dog was diagnosed with a number of health issues and was rapidly failing. After having spent the past year spending hundreds of dollars for each vet visit and it's battery of tests, I decided to bite the bullet and seek out alternative treatments to help my pet. At the end of the day, the time spent with each pet, the personalized care you get from Dr. Lipton is probably the best decision and most affordable in the long run - my dog has achieved a remarkable turnaround and I am doing better at managing his old age. Her nutritional advice is complete and complex, fasten your seatbelt. Her alternative treatments have also seemed effective, and she will give you exercises to perform. I can tell the bit of physical therapy I do a day has helped a lot too. I am just sorry I did not use her when my dog was a puppy, but am glad I found her now! read more

Dr. Lipton is peerless. This became evident as I witnessed her treatment of a seriously ill dog beloved by two close friends, and the subsequent profound improvement in their pet's health. Beyond being a gifted practitioner of integrative veterinary medicine, to include acupuncture, homeopathy and nutrition, her heart is wholly invested in the care she provides. I am utterly won over by Dr. Lipton's compassion and skill. read more

Dr. Leanne Lipton is the best! My doggie, Red, a 13 1/2 year old yorkie has a number of health issues. He has luxating pattelar, arthritis, heart problems, skin problems, stomach issues, you name it! Red was not doing so well in December of last year, but since we began seeing Dr. Lipton a couple of days before New Year's Day, Red's health has improved dramatically. Dr. Lipton takes a holistic approach to medicine and cares for the whole animal. She visited my home to ensure that Red's home environment was optimal for him, gave me recommendations on the best type of food for him, and prescribed the best type of medication for his arthritis, etc. She even arranged to have Red's medication delivered to my home from a local pharmacy. Red also now eats a special diet that agrees with his tummy and allows him to be at his personal best. I only wish that I had found Dr. Lipton when Red was a puppy--he would be even healthier now. But I'm very pleased that I have found her now and I'm sure that Red and I will be just fine for all the wonderful time we have left together. I highly recommend Dr. Lipton to anyone who is searching for the best care for their pet. After all, our pets are such a joy to us and we really want them to be as happy and healthy as possible. Thankfully, Dr. Lipton can certainly help us accomplish that. Sharon F. read more

I was so happy to have found Dr. Lipton, which was totally by chance while buying dog food! I asked the owner of the store if she knew a holistic vet, and Dr. Lipton was standing right there... I have always adopted senior dogs with disabilities, and she has been wonderful treating all of them, not only medically, but nutritionally as well! She makes sure to keep in touch with my other vets--GP and other specialists--assuring they have her latest treatment info per pet, and making sure each vet keeps in touch with her, to trade findings re: diagnoses and treatment considerations, to assure she is on top of everything going on with each pet, and all other vets are happy to comply with her wishes. Dr. Lipton spends as much time as needed per pet per visit, and is her visits are extremely comprehensive. Her knowledge is absolutely incredible, and she has improved the quality of life of all my dogs. I also think she has really helped in the area of pain management with the ones who needed it with acupuncture, laser treatments, etc., in addition to herbal/vitamin treatments with her holistic treatments if and when she deems necessary. I HIGHLY recommend her!!! read more

Thinking that acupuncture would be helpful to our aging dog, we originally contacted Dr. Lipton specifically for her expertise in this treatment. While there are a number of practitioners in the area, we found the depth of her training in both traditional and Eastern/holistic veterinary medicine particularly attractive. Candidly, we expected no more than a skilled acupuncture practitioner when she arrived for that initial appointment. Dr. Lipton immediately showed herself to be so much more. In that first appointment alone, in addition to thoroughly reviewing our dog's medical history, she assessed his eating, drinking, hygiene and sleeping habits, and was able to advise us on a number of issues that we found to be immediately useful. Since that initial appointment, our dog has been in Dr. Lipton's regular care. We were particularly grateful for her guidance and compassion earlier this year, when our dog suffered a stroke. While he survived, his ability to walk was, at first, severely curtailed. Following treatment from Dr. Lipton, he regained his mobility. Moreover, in addition to providing him acupuncture and electrostimulation treatment, she devised a pain management regime for him that we believe has greatly enhanced our dog's quality of life. We feel fortunate to have found Dr. Lipton, and to have her as our beloved dog's care giver. We recommend her, without reservation, to any pet owner seeking a highly trained and competent veterinarian with a track record of delivering compassionate home-based care. read more

I am so glad that I took the plunge into holistic veterinary and called Dr. Lipton. Thanks to her, I avoided giving my dog unnecessary doses of Benadryl. Dr. Lipton says that she is in a behavioralist, but she (correctly) made the call that my dog was not suffering from allergies, but rather from lack of activity and interactivity with other dogs (shame on me). Dr. Lipton also talked about the newer dehydrated raw foods and adding greater variety to my dog's diet. I think that these changes have resulted in a happier, healthier dog, and since our appointment with Dr. Lipton almost two months ago, my dog is doing much better in many ways, due to the insights I got which I never would have received from tradtional veterinary (which we still rely upon for certain needs). I heartily recommend Dr. Lipton! read more

Couldn't disagree more with these prior comments. If you're referred to Dr Lipton for any veterinary care, grab your pet and run in the opposite direction. She's demeaning, curt, emotionless and, worst, she's critical of other veterinarians' care, which, in my opinion, is most unprofessional. Would recommend avoiding at all costs. read more
