At that point we opted to stop all pharmaceuticals (Apoquel, ProHeart 12) especially after learning they can cause seizures. Going forward we will get titers testing done before doing any further vaccinations. We looked around Boise for a holistic vet practiced in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) so we could holistically heal Hanno and thought we'd found one. The results were less than impressive and we are still waiting to hear back from them a week later! I remembered that Rebecca L G Verna is a Holistic Vet and I contacted her. This morning, she spent an hour and fifteen minutes on the facetime call with my wife and me. She asked a TON of questions and even looked at Hanno over the video. Her knowledge is impressive and I felt like she was really invested in his well-being. She gave Hanno more attention on the facetime call than the local "TCVM" vet did in person. Not an exaggeration at all. Going forward, our go to vet is Dr. Becky Verna at Paws for Holistic Pet Care and we will use the local vet to run the labs and do the 'hands on' things we cannot do over the phone. You want a vet who will lean forward into the care of your doggie, I highly recommend Rebecca L G Verna. Thank you Becky!

As a self-proclaimed high-maintenance pet owner of two dogs and two cats, I demand a lot from a vet, and this team exceeds every expectation. They are highly skilled, patient, and deeply responsive. When we relocated to the area, they took over the care of my 14-year-old, blind Labrador who had extensive medical needs. Thanks to their dedicated, compassionate care, we got one more beautiful year with him before he passed. They also provide phenomenal care to my two cats, ensuring my high-needs cat is always well looked after. The staff here deals with so much difficult emotional labor every day, yet they always show up with kindness and love. They are a true blessing to the D.C. pet community.

FHA was the closest facility to take her to. I was extremely grateful for the urgency they showed when I came in. They immediately recognized the urgency of the situation and whisked her away for oxygen treatment. After she was stabilized, the DR went over diagnosis options and costs. They stated due to her temperament, she would need to be sedated. I know my baby and was well aware that she was not going to voluntarily cooperate. I usually give her Gabapentin before a vet visit. The costs were extremely high but that is also to be expected for ER care and par for the location. They were very transparent with the costs and I did not feel any pressure. We approved the estimate and were told they would contact us once all the tests were completed. After approximately 2 hours, we did not hear from anyone so I called for an update. I was told they were still "trying to sedate her". I was surprised that no tests had been performed in that 2 hour period. We received an update about 4 hours later that we could pick her up. Upon meeting with the DR. the very first thing she tells me is that Lucy bit one of the techs. Am I surprised that she would try to do so, absolutely not. I am surprised that with their experience and as trained professionals, they were not able to prevent this. She was under their control and care. I of course apologize and the DR went on to explain the results of the tests, etc. Here is where I have a major issue. I receive a call at work the next day from Animal Control that the hospital filed a report of the incident. The representative from Animal Control explained that this is a requirement, etc. FHA never mentioned the requirement and I was completely caught off guard. I get that it was required but professionalism would have dictated informing me of this. Not sure I would bring her there again unless it was a last resort emergency situation as this was.
