I cannot even begin to express how happy we were with Dr. Dahlgren. My family and I had to say goodbye to our 11 & 1/2 year old chocolate lab and we called Loving Kindness Veterinary Care to assist our sweet boy in his journey across the rainbow bridge. I keep thinking about that day & I cannot express how grateful I am to Dr. Dahlgren. She came when we did not know where to turn too. She was absolutely wonderful and took a horrible, stressful situation, and brought some peace to it. There is absolutely nothing that she could've done better! Thanks to her, our sweet boy was able to pass very peacefully here at home with all of us around him and that's exactly what I wanted for him. My three children (ages 5, 7, & 17) were right there with my husband and I to say goodbye to our sweet boy. Dr. Dahlgren explained everything to my children before doing anything so that they knew what to expect. Not only was she completely available to us on that day, she continued to follow-up with us afterwards. Checking in on us the next day & letting me know that our sweet boy's ashes had arrived at the Veterinarian's office. I'll never forget her thoughtfulness & gentleness! She handled everything with love & kindness (hence the name)! I cannot recommend Dr. Dahlgren enough to anyone that needs end-of-life care for their beloved family members. I sincerely appreciate the care that my beautiful Husky, Sasha, received from Dr. Dahlgren. I drove from Bedford searching for a veterinarian to help end her pain and continue her crossing over journey. Even though the covid virus has placed so many constraints upon available care, Dr. Dahlgren responded quickly to our family's needs. Our appointment was the last for the day, and Dr Dahlgren kept us apprised of her schedule changes. We appreciated that she took the time with families scheduled ahead of us, and were very appreciative of her kindness to us at the end of what was an exceptionally long day. Sasha was at ease with Dr. Dahlgren and did not exhibit any anxiety, even though it was obvious she was starting to feel some intense pain. In spite of covid, Dr. Dahlgren did not hesitate to meet Sasha on her own terms in her favorite spot at my daughter's house. It has taken me four months to write this because the loss of my beloved pug just shy of his 16th birthday has been incredibly difficult. Toward the end of Boordy's life, I felt alone and selfish. I was uncertain of whether I was giving up on him because his hospice care was wearing me down or if I was prolonging his suffering because I didn't want to say goodbye. Dr. Dahlgren showed nothing but kindness and compassion as she listened to my concerns and ultimately helped me make the heartbreaking decision for euthanasia. It is strange to describe such a painful experience as positive, but it was. Dr. Dahlgren was so kind and gentle and Boordy was able to die peacefully in my arms. It was the little things that Dr. Dahlgren did that made a big difference in helping me say goodbye. She let me carry the basket with Boordy's body to her car because I was not fully ready to let him go. Before she drove away, Dr. Dahlgren gave me a hug and told me she would take good care of him. She had no idea how much I needed that. My husband and I recently had to say goodbye to our dog Charlie after nearly 13 wonderful years together. This was especially difficult for us because we don't see a regular vet in Richmond; ours is an and a half away in Waybesboro. Consequently, we went into this situation nervous and somewhat lost; however, that all changed when we met Dr. Dahlgren. She was super professional, very well prepared, and had an excellent bedside manner. She even made sure our other dog, Libby, was comfortable and given lots of treats! Plus, you could just tell that she's a caring, genuine, down to earth person in the way she spoke and how she carried herself. This was all confirmed for me when she later told me that she has a calling for end of life care for animals and that she had only recently started this as her primary business. When our beautiful and sweet baby girl Ruby was diagnosed with lung cancer we were devastated. She just turned 11 on February. We did everything we could to save her but, nothing worked. She was suffering and in great pain. On June 13 we contact Dr. Alex and she came to our home. She explain the whole process in detail always with compassion. When Ruby saw her (as sick as she was) she approached Dr. Alex to greet her. We prepare a nice spot in our deck for Ruby, and play Over The Rainbow on the radio. Everyone said "see you later" to her, and Dr. Alex helped her to crossed the rainbow bridge. I hugged my baby until she took her last breath. Everything happened the way Dr. Alex explained to us previously. She was very patient and gave us all the time that we needed to grieve our baby. The compassion, the kindness and the respect that Dr. Alex continued to show to our baby girl after the process was also very appreciated. If you have to have an animal put to sleep at the end of their life because their quality of life has deteriorated and nothing more can be done, I recommend having a vet come to your home. This is the second time I have had to do this and I would never do it any other way. Alex at LovingKindness was very helpful in explaining the entire procedure over the phone to me. She answered all my questions. She was gentle and not trying to lead me into a decision. She was comforting throughout the conversation. On the day of the appointment, she texted me when she was on her way and arrived a few minutes early. She followed my lead on where and how I wanted to hold my pet. She did suggest a slight adjustment for the cat's comfort. Alex again explained every step of the procedure before doing anything, She was so gentle and loving with every touch. Dr. Alex Dahlgren came to our house to help us with our sick kitty. We wanted to her to pass comfortably and at home. Alex was kind, confident and comforting. She explained every step of the way. She consistently checked in to see how we were and if we had questions. The process was not rushed in anyway. We felt like we could take the time we need to be with Tiny cat before, during and after. Two sweet things that Alex did: 1 offered to do a little ink paw print of our cat. I had never had this done and didn't know if I would want it but I love having it now. The second thing was she brought a little bed to carry our cat out in and that meant so much to me. It is the last vision I have of her, resting in that little bed. Dr. Dahlgren came to my home to euthanize my Jackson because of behavior and aggression concerns. The decision to euthanize was extremely difficult to reach and she made the transition so much easier for me and my family. I've worked in veterinary medicine for over 20 years and the compassion shown by Dr. Dahlgren was insurmountable. She ensured every single detail was covered to make his last moments anxiety free which was extremely important to us. The kindness, reassurance, and compassion shown to my family was so comforting. She has come to our home for both a quality of life assessment and to help us say goodbye to our beloved elderly pup. During her first visit, she was able to help us make tweaks to his treatment, which enabled us to spend several more good quality months with him. My husband and I are deeply grateful to Lovingkindness Veterinary Care for assisting us with letting go of our 14 year old kitty who had lymphoma. Dr. Dahlgren came to our home on the day we received the diagnosis that our kitty had very little time left and talked to us about palliative care and options for home euthanasia.
