Losing a pet is never easy and our family was devastated when we lost both of our pugs within 2…read moremonths of each other. We had never lost a pet and didn't feel comfortable sending our little paway and picking her ashes up the following week. So we opted to have a viewing. We went to Agape not knowing what to expect but were blown away with the kindness and compassion they displayed. They gave us all the time we wanted with Chelsea and Yoda and never made us feel rushed. While we waited for their little bodies to be cremated the staff played a movie for the kids and offered us refreshments. The cremation facility itself is immaculate. You can watch the entire process from the viewing room. We only watched bits and pieces but observed that the handler was extremely gentle with both of our pugs. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they do not mix pets' ashes when you opt to have an individual cremation. I am very thankful to Agape for making our grief more bearable.

I knew I didn't want to take him to the vet to say goodbye, because I knew it would add to his stress. I avoided making this call through most of the day, but by the afternoon, I knew I couldn't put it off any longer. I called Dr Dahlgren and she picked up right away. She was able to come that afternoon, which was a tremendous relief because I didn't think Brutus' suffering could go on much longer. She was gentle, respectful, caring, and informed me of what could happen every step of the process. I was able to say goodbye in the comfort of my own home and I was able to keep Brutus as comfortable as I knew how. Thank you Dr Dahlgren for making my loss as bearable as possible.

Finding the best vet for your pet is not as simple as choosing a restaurant or a mechanic--everyone…read morehas different needs. But in the spirit of helping neighbors, I provide a summary of my recent experience with Godspeed, where my dog has been a client for 6 years. He had a stricture in his colon which was resulting in pooping-problems for about 5 months. It was a complicated case that looked like constipation + diarrhea. Dr. Hale and his team treated my dog over the course of 3 weeks for this condition--with kindness, thoughtfulness, good care, and communication. The stricture is now functionally repaired, and we very likely avoided surgery. Thus, not only did they provide a successful treatment, but they saved me thousands of dollars in the cost of surgery. My advice? Get pet insurance, as Dr. Hale advised me a couple of years ago! And take your dog to Godspeed Animal Care in Williamsburg if you can.

I have taken my sweet baby kittens, Shrimp and Grits, to Broad Street Vet Hospital three times now…read moresince I adopted them & I've been really impressed by the service & pricing every time I've visited! Their first visit was for Shrimp & Grits final kitten visit aka their last round of shots plus a little treatment for a nasty ear infection Shrimp was fighting. I believe this visit end up costing around ~$150. I was really pleased with how thoughtful and attentive both the vet and the assistant were with my many questions as a new kitten mom. The second visit was for a minor health issue with Shrimp. The vet gave me very thorough information and treatment for her. I believe this visit cost around ~$200, including urinalysis and other tests. Our most recent visit was for grooming for Grits. I've never had a long haired animal before and I was so thankful for the time Debbie took to explain how I could best maintain his coat and comfort! This visit, with a first time grooming discount, was $35. The receptionists and assistants are always incredibly kind & seem to really love animals. I'll happily be continuing to go to BSHV for my veterinary needs!

I ended up having to bring him elsewhere in order to get the proper medication for his allergic reaction. The two vets are very kind people. I had a positive experience with my dog's back injury lately. Pricing is definitely through the roof here, however. I think you can find the same care somewhere else for much cheaper. But, Broad St Vet is not a terrible option.

My husband and I have taken our dogs to this vet for 15 years, but never again. Our dog began…read morehaving seizures for the first time and had 4 seizures in the evening and overnight. We called an emergency vet and they said they would need to see what was happening to properly diagnose her, so they advised waiting and taking a video if she has another episode (which is a separate issue with another facility). Rather than risk a 30 minute drive to a questionable emergency vet, we figured Swift Creek would help. We were in the parking lot waiting when they opened at 8am. My husband explained the situation, and my dog clearly had seizures (we did take a video at that point), but they told us to go to urgent care. Even when told that she was now having seizures 3-4 hours apart and waiting another 3 hours for urgent care to open would allow time for another seizure, they still said they would not see her. They have been this dog's vet for all 5 years of her life and have seen all our other dogs over the course of 15 years, yet they turned us away when our dog really needed help. Fortunately, we found another vet that was open and willing to see her. They gave her a sedative and seizure medication. They did nothing that Swift Creek didn't have the ability to do, other than show compassion. Swift Creek might be fine when your pet is well, but don't count on them to help when you really need them.

Had both a vet appointment and boarded our dogs there…read more Let's just say this was the absolute worst experience I have had boarding my dogs. Vet appt was mediocre. Had to pay for 2 exam fees. Neither dog got an exam. They gave them there influenza shot and sent us on our way. Boarding... when we dropped off we had concerns. We asked to see the kennel where the dogs were kept and it wasn't very nice. There was active animal pee on the ground and extremely loud. None of the animals were settled. Whatsoever. The blankets they give dogs are paper thin. Thank goodness we brought our own. On the 3rd day of our dogs getting boarded we get a call that they have run out of food. How is that possible if I packed 12 bags for 5 days and they eat once a day. I packed for 1 extra day just in case. The workers never read the instructions and did whatever they wanted. They fed them twice a day and they weren't even eating. No call nothing. Until they ran out. They offered purina- which my dogs can not eat. They did go out and buy their dog food from tractor supply. But after such the manager acted as if I should be grateful for such a doing. The following morning I get another phone call. Miraculously one of my dogs has a cut under her eye and she needs emergency medical attention but no vets are in but I can pay for them to take her to an emergency vet. They tried to blame my other dog which is insulting enough. We cut our trip short and had a friend go get our dogs out of this place that day. Not only that. I drove my dogs 3 hours to the university (Virginia Tech) to have them evaluated and the one dog professional stitched up by the surgical team to also be told it was not from another dog. Do not board your dogs here.
