Up selling is another thing. Not everyone has a budget for the premiums. Not everyone fits their 3 options. If I cover one eye and test them this is what I see. I see extremely well out of my left eye. Switching eyes: My right eye is fuzzy and a tea color vision. I use readers to see up close for 25 years. I see great at a distance. I feel I only needed cataract surgery only on the right eye. But seeing that was not even an option nor did they strongly encourage a great out come even if I did both eyes with a premium lens in the right eye and the regular Medicare lens in the left. I just decided to go to another facility.

My insurance covered $480. They apparently sent the money to Newsome instead of sending it to me directly. After only 2 calls It took Newsome 9 weeks to reimburse me my $480. It's not a lot of money but that's not right. Imagine 1000 patients at $480, close to 1/2 million making interest for him.

They rescheduled me for months later for the operation. I was talking with my friend who recommended Dr. Cortelli. Called and managed to get an appointment for the next day after I explained my situation to Theresa. I got to the office and went in immediately. Went from test to test and then to Dr. Cortelli. More tests than I had in the past. Dr. Cortelli took lots of time to explain that my vision would not be improved much even if I got the toric lenses because of a different problem in my one eye (nothing that needed fixing). All I needed was a new pair of glasses! I cannot express how wonderful Florida Medical's staff was from Julie at the desk, to the technician who did the tests, to Theresa to Dr. Cortelli. If I hadn't gone there, it would have cost me thousands of dollars for toric lenses that would not have helped!

BEWARE OF CENTER FOR ADVANCED EYE CARE. I made an…read moreappointment for options for my upper and lower eyelids. I asked if they accepted Medicare and AARP United Health for the appointment. With our insurance we pay no deductible or copays. They said YES. When checking in, they took copies of my insurance cards. I asked again if the appointment was covered by insurance. They said YES. Upon checking out, they charged $150 consultation fee. I told them to put it through my insurance and it would be covered. They said they don't do that. I paid with a credit card and was charged an additional 3%. So I'm assuming they just want cash. I've been to other doctors for the same reason. They billed my insurance and was paid in full. If this is their practice, they should tell people when they call for an appointment and let the person decide then if they want an appointment or not.
