I was highly embarrassed and disappointed yesterday at the White Street Weis Market. For the last 3 years I have purchased soft drinks in large quantities to keep on hand. Just so I don't have to run to the store every few days. I entertain guests and friends a lot.
So yesterday I went to purchase soft drinks and found that the Pepsi Products were on sale, 3 12-packs for $10. It didn't matter that they were on sale, I would have bought them anyway. So I choose 3 packs of 8 flavors. Diet and Regular for Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Ginger Ale, Sierra Mist.
When I got in line to check out, the young man asked me to wait. He left and went to the office and returned with the manager. She asked me how many 12 packs I had. I didn't pay attention at the time. I told her I didn't know. After a short polite exchange she told me that I couldn't buy them. There was not limit on the shelf tags or any of the large 7ft displays of Pepsi products. She simply said that it wasn't allowed. Even after I gave her my club card and told her I've been doing this for 3 years, she refused to sell them to me. Oh, she did say I could buy 5 if I wanted to. I don't think she can do math ... 5 12-packs when there is a sale based on buying 3 at a time.
So I drove down the street to the Market in Shiloh/Dover and loaded up my cart and got in line and asked the cashier if I could buy these. She said sure, why not? Are you having a party? Can I come? I was amused and she was very pleasant.
So why would a manager refuse to sell something to a customer like that? Yes, it was a littler larger quantity than average but I can't believe I'm the only person who's ever done it. I have been to the warehouse stores, but they don't always have all the flavors in stock or available. And in any event, she refused to sell to me when any other store would have and did.
Can Weis Market not find a manager with the ability to think and reason? I do feel bad for the young cashier boy ... his face was red and he was very nervous and I assume he was new and not sure what to do. read more
