A great way to learn some quirky tidbits about downtown, complete with energetic guides on this roughly 90 minute tour that keeps you engaged, even participating! Full of fun factoids, comedy and magic I won't go into the details that have been articulated previously. I'll just say it was well orchestrated, our guide was spot on, handled the passersby comically but respectful and made the event super enjoyable. We had a decent size group, but everyone seemed to feel engaged. A great event even for locals, but more fun with visitors. We look forward to doing this again when guests are in town. Gayle, Jim, Marti, and I took this most enjoyable walking tour yesterday on a nice warm Sunday afternoon. The tour started with the lower level of the Renaissance Hotel (who provided water and a snack) for a introduction, a historical set-up (in costume) and fun "throw the cards" warm-up. Once outside (fully masked) and "on the road", our tour stops included the old Post Office/West Elm, the Reno Courthouse, the Virginia Street Bridge, Space Whale/Site of old Mapes Hotel, Old Riverside Hotel, one of Reno's historic old Alleys, and Belle Island. In between were stories of hangings, rings thrown from the bridge, missing person/mob hits, possible prohibition liquor runs through alleged tunnels, and of course the church where the finale of Sister Act was filmed. There were also magic tricks, bad jokes, a look up in the sky gag for tour add-ons, a fake birthday song tribute to a surprised restaurant patron, and a very enjoyable and interactive outdoor experience. The expedition ended back at the hotel with a ring magic trick, a bit historical letter reveal, and appreciation for a job well done. This expedition actually left me with wanting more in terms of local historical tidbits and stories. Maybe sometime post-COVID, a longer and smaller attended walking tour would be "in the cards". True magic from beginning to end! Very interactive with the audience and I know some of us left wondering- how did they do that? I like how they integrated past, present and future. It was nice to experience something new and much needed in a long time. I definitely recommend getting tickets. We were laughing throughout the tour. Let's start out by saying that staff and presenters were well prepared and knew their stuff. They've been waiting awhile to do these events again. Good for your team to get back out there! I couldn't set up my appointment for Yelp Elite as there was no space for the promo code, nor were dates specified. Given that we paid a regular amount for the tour, we can review things as they stand. It's important to note that more than half the attendees on this tour were friends of each other who had signed up together. What was unfortunate was that some in that party were either inebriated or simply behaving badly. This was a Sunday afternoon. The tour was interesting and pointed out scenic sights with noted history. The tour itself would be very acceptable. In light of the fact that this is pre-Yelp Elite, we have a few suggestions in preparation for the Yelp events: 1. Consider updating some language used during the tour such as perhaps omitting the comment about 'swinging both ways.' It's pride month, for goodness sake; 2. Staff should have set strategies for dealing with unruly tour group members (who may make the experience unpleasant for other customers); and 3. Avoid commenting that we should be 'tolerant' of unfortunates on the street. The behavior of some tour members was worse than that of any 'unfortunate' on the street. Okay 10/10 would do again! I imagine while the base script is the same the interactive parts make each show a bit different. I am definitely arranging my work people to come and any visitors to try this out. Humor, history, and magic... not to emotion u get a good 3k steps in walking off and on downtown in an hours time. So much I could say but I don't want to give away the show... definitely something to try. My contribution was I got to name the space whale downtown "Socks" after my cat... (spacewhale gets a new name every show)... and let me tell you... you get multiple surprises when they close out the show. The show starts with an interactive surprise. Pretty fun for something weird and different to do in Reno. We showed up a bit late since we lost track of time and walked from 10 Torr. We still got to sit at a table for a couple minutes, listen to the rundown, grab our trail mix, water, and cards before strolling the streets and alleyways of downtown Reno. The whole concept from beginning to end was totally entertaining. This wasn't too long of a tour and we didn't walk too far, but I recommend wearing comfier shoes other than dressy sandals (my fault). Thank you to Yelp for the opportunity to experience Weird Reno! When I told my husband we were going to do a historical walking tour of downtown, he was like, "Umm why can't we just walk around ourselves?" (Okay wet blanket....) But I suppose, a valid question. With that in mind, we had semi-low expectations going in, but I'm happy to say we left with a completely different outlook and had a great time! Our hosts were engaging, and we really enjoyed learning some cool facts and exploring lesser known parts of the city. I wish there were a bit more tidbits and facts though! Additionally, the magic was very cool, throughout the tour and to close the show. We got to be involved in a couple of the tricks and grand finale too, so I think that made everything even more enjoyable! Won't go into too much detail though, as I don't wait to spoil it for others :) The tour we were on also had a very large group, with some intoxicated members that were... outspoken. The hosts tried their best to manage that, but it did distract from our experience a bit. It happens, we don't live in a bubble! But I will say, the owners reached out after and offered us another trip, which was much appreciated and to me shows thoughtfulness and good customer service. Couple tips: You don't walk tooooo far, but I am glad I wore tennis shoes. They give you water and trail mix to take along, which is a nice touch too. I think there are few different versions of the tour, but definitely give them a try and prepare to be amazed! read more

The tour was a blast, certainly not for everyone but it was a plesant walk around the Riverwalk with fun jokes and interesting local facts. I am happy I stumbled upon them in the Residence Hotel which also houses The Shore. While getting the tickets was a bit of a kerfluffle for me, when that was sorted it was well worth the admission. It is a cute date idea or good way to spend 80 minutes, as a local it was still informative and fun. If a bit camp-y at times but that made it even better. Their entertaining banter describes a little of what you will learn. You walk along the river and are taken back to 1930's Reno. The Host's stories are told in a way the educates and humors. He even gifts you with some light magic. The tour ends back at the Renaissance where you get some more magic that amazed even my skeptic partner. I can't recommend you check this out enough!! My fiancé's mom was visiting so I thought this would be a fun activity for the whole family! We went on a Friday evening so parking was a little harder to find. It's a lively/"poppin'" area so you could plan for dinner/drinks before and/or after the tour. Took about 90 minutes from parking to leaving but there's lots to do around so it could be a full evening of fun. They provided water and a snack beforehand. Lots of fun, entertaining, educational, and you get some physical activity in at the same time! Not gonna spoil any fun for those considering-- just go! Highly recommend! read more

I was given the opportunity to go on this tour as a Yelp Elite and am glad I did! I enjoy learning about the history of cities...throw in some magic and illusions and the good times are set. This was a different way to spend an 1.5 in our city. The magic was fun and the jokes were cheesy, but I still laughed at everything. Just know this is a lighthearted tour and don't take yourself too seriously. I would have been interested in some more history of Reno, but what I learned I did not already know. Great tour! Lots of laughs and very impressive magic! I highly recommend it to get a little history and background of Reno!

Bear in mind that I took the tour back in April when they were fairly new. I have a degree in history, and love all things weird and odd, so I figured this tour was right up my alley. I could go either way on magic, but it definitely sounded like an interesting combo, so my BF and I bought tickets. Meeting in the Renaissance to start the tour is nice. They started with a little trick that didn't actually work for either my BF or myself. All the while they had this background story sort of playing out in the background so to speak. I was really looking forward to learning a ton of history on the tour, as I was new to town then, but I left having not learned very much. It seemed like a lot of the tour was focused on dumb jokes and gags. For example, if someone walking by shows interest, they wanted the tour group to stare up at the sky, so the person ended up feeling dumb for having interest. Stopping the tour to awkwardly sing happy bday to someone just trying to enjoy a quiet dinner on the Riverfront didn't make a lot of sense to me either. I also took the tour to learn, but ended up being the center of a bunch of said stupid jokes on the tour. I didn't appreciate that, and it made the whole thing uncomfortable, because I was always on edge about getting called on to be mocked. A couple times the background storyline comes into play on the walk, and then again at the end, but it didn't really tie it all together for me. I am fully aware that this humor may just not be my type, and therefore the good times were lost on me. If you're looking for a deep dive into history or weird facts, I really don't believe this is the tour. If you're looking for a light-hearted short jaunt around a very small portion of Reno with cheap magic tricks, then this may be for you. read more

Like the coolest class field trip you'll ever take, Weird Reno was such a fun, unique way to explore a new city. It was hilarious, and will leave you smiling in between scratching your head in wonder. As an out of towner, it was a fun surprise experience and don't worry if you're afraid to be picked on, it's easy to blend in and just take it in. Covid precautions are in place just like most of Reno, making me confident in recommending it. You can get cocktails at the bar upstairs before the tour to make it a great date night, or grab free water and trail mix compliments of the hotel for the kiddos.
