Pickled herring and fried potatoes. Delicious!
Ben S.

My wife and I were staying a few blocks away, and we decided to have dinner here based on the other Yelp reviews. We got there around 6:30 PM and the place was already busy, and we made our way past a couple of guys having a smoke outside the front door and grabbed a table. The waiter came by and asked us "Zwei Kolsch?" and brought us two 0.2 liter beers (€1.40 each) to drink while we looked over the menu. (The waiter did speak English, which was nice since our German is poor at best.) I ordered the steak in pepper sauce with French fries and cabbage salad (€5.90), and my wife ordered the pickled herring with fried potatoes (€7.90). For the price, we were expecting each entree to be more of a bar snack, but these were full-on dinners, and they were absolutely delicious. The steak in pepper sauce was a good cut of meat, and the whole peppercorns in the sauce were cooked in such a way that they burst in my mouth rather than crunching. The herring had good texture and came with a sour and tangy sauce with fresh herbs. A great meal, especially for the price (€22.20 including three beers each). Recommended!

Well, it turns out that not all of the bars on the Eigelsteiner are dodgy - this one appears to be quite legitimate. Well, it didn't seem to be all that bad from what I could remember of it. The staff were nice and they had a pretty cool beer garden out the back. Also, unlike the other bars in the area, there were people in this bar having conversations, and minding their own business as opposed to bugging me for services that I didn't particularly want. It was also pretty conveniently located, just across the road from the Wasch Salon, so I could basically set my clothes to wash and then head off for a drink. However, what was cool about this pub was definitely the beer garden.
