I was looking for a bottle shop so I checked this spot out. You can grab a pint at the bar and/or browse the selection of beer and wine to take home. The beer selection to take home was just okay, I was hoping for more options. I also wish that all of the staff members were a tad friendlier. read more

What a fun venue!! It's a bar, a wine/beer shop, and has live music on the stage 3 nights a week! I wish we had something like this in Winston Salem. The vibe was fun and inviting and the selection of wine bottles and beer can was quite impressive. We were just swinging in for some beer but ended up staying to listen to the music and dance a little! I will definitely make it a priority to check out who's performing the next time we are in the area so we can hang out longer! The server was little stand-offish at first but overall we enjoyed the wine and he opened up at the end. Charcuterie is inexpensive and a great snack, you get what you pay for, hormel pepperonis and sliced apples.... and a few other bites. It did the job! read more

So, I wasn't really all that taken with this place. First off, it had a bit of a musty odor coming, I assume, from the cheeses and maybe some beer hops. But the main problem is that it's slow if you just want to stop in for a glass of wine/beer and some cheese. There was one person working the cheese and another working the wine and, apparently, never shall the twain cross. So we had to deal with two different people, both of whom were busy dealing with groups of Yankees who had to inspect and inquire about every particle of merchandise in the place. And since I'm a freak for cheese, I don't appreciate it when people get between me and my fix. Then the young lady working the cheese must have been new, because she told me they didn't have a guyere when I was looking at a block of it on the bottom shelf of the case. I will say that the cheese plate with three selections is a good value. This place might work better as a stop to get something to take home rather than a dine-in. read more

Stopped in to check this place out after the drum circle. Plenty of wines and beers to choose from. I had the Ginger's Revenge original beer and the Ginger's Revenge Ginger Lime Agave beer. Both were fantastic and my wife and I got a 4 pack of each to take home. They also had live entertainment there but we were leaving as they started to play. We will be back again! read more

When I want good cheese and wine I come here to down town Asheville. They also split local beers that have already been sorted for only 2.00 a pop. Right in the heart of downtown were the hippies meet. read more

Wish I could give a half star! Went in to purchase a bottle of wine. No one spoke to us while we were in the place. No offer to help and there was no one else in the place. They were too focused on eating their ice cream cones. Their selection is small as well. I think they are more a bar than a wine store. Had to go get someone to check out and they seemed inconvenienced by our presence. There was not even a "Thank You" as we walked out. I would never go to this place again. read more

The bartender was incredibly rude and scoffed when I asked a question. There was almost no one there and he wasn't busy at all. Decent prices, good wine selection. Bartenders make or break a bar. Would've picked up a bottle and stayed longer if it wasn't for him. read more

Now, I am a Weinhaus regular since I work on Wall St, we visit them for wine-thirty at least once a week. But seriously, Weinhaus saved my tail this weekend! I was hosting a baby shower on Sunday and I had planned on picking up wine glasses from a competitor, but they had already closed by the time I got off work to pick them up. We called Weinhaus and they got me 50something wine and champagne glasses that evening! I was so relieved! Great prices, friendly staff and the perfect location (for me at least) :) read more

Stopped by Weinhaus to pick up some local beers to drink at our hotel. The store is pretty small and I think the space could be utilized much better. It seemed like a lot of wasted space. I think the space that felt empty was were people could sit and eat their cheese and stuff from the cheese counter. The selection of beer and wine was ok but fairly limited due to the space constraints. They did have some local stuff and since that is what we were looking for we were satisfied. Overall, Weinhaus was a great place to duck in during a weekend trip to Asheville and see one truly fantastic local bluegrass band. It felt like a mostly local crowd and the music was great. My wine (a recommended Red) was fine and the prices were great. The shop ran out of cheese and cracker plates but made us one of our own (though it only came with like 8 crackers for three women and a healthy slice of brie..), but the service was great and we were happy. The only thing that was frustrating was that the two friends I was with both don't drink and they didn't have anything to offer except sparkling water. I recommend keeping at least some soda or coffee/tea to offer customers who are interested in the late night entertainment. The biggest issue here was that if it wasn't for the sparkling water or the make-shift cheese plate (no other food offered) they wouldn't have been able to purchase anything, which they definitely wanted to do. Bottom line: if you're looking for a pre dinner drink or a local venue that values local artists. this is your jam! Note: This place also has a very healthy wine collection if you're looking to pick up a bottle. I can't comment on it since I stayed in the bar area. read more

Is it ironic that I'm rating the Weinhaus for their beer selection? Too bad because that's what I'm about to do. About 2/3 of the floor area is devoted to wine with the remaining third taken up by beer. There's a good selection of local and hard to find beers to choose from, mostly in 22 oz bottles or six packs which I don't think they break up, though I didn't think to ask. They do have a cooler if you're not the type for planning ahead, including a few $1 bottles which seemed to be a hit with the homeless folks who hang out in Pritchard Park. read more

We were treated to a mini wine & chocolate tasting at the Weinhaus on Saturday. We tried 3 wines and 3 different chocolates to pair with them. The people in the shop were very friendly and gracious but the selections they chose for us to taste were not really outstanding or memorable. However, the shop is cute and they do host live music on certain nights, so I would certainly go back. Also, they do have a selection of local cheeses for sale, which is cool. read more

Weinhaus made ordering and delivery super easy for our wedding, and they have great prices for their beer and wine. They also helped us arrange for set up in addition to delivery at the last minute which was very much appreciated. Our only complaint is that they delivered a different case of wine than we ordered, and we didn't realize this until we went in to return the unopened bottles. At that point, they just charged us for an extra case even though it was still unclear if the case was extra or if they just switched one of the boxes we had ordered for a different type of wine (so they charged us for 4 cases in the end when we only had ordered 3). read more

Good selection, but I think Weinhaus could work on their customer service. What is so hard about greeting customers with a smile? A lot of businesses these days are lacking in this, and Weinhaus is no exception. My biggest turnoff is that my husband said "thanks" to the clerk after paying and the clerk just said "you're welcome." Uh, wrong answer. You are supposed to thank the person who just bought from your store, dear. read more

Going with the crowd on this - they have BEER . Wine, yeah they have it, who cares, I use that stuff to cook with. Good selection of local brews as well as a good inventory of the more exotic ones. I, also, am reviewing this wine shop based on the beer selection. Like the previous poster said, the beer selection is a good one, with many micro's and imports available. I especially was fond of their belgian selection, and their display of several hard to find rogue varieties. Their prices were decent, certainly lower than other beer stores in the area. All in all, a great find. read more

We stepped in here to get out of a rain shower and ended up having a couple glasses of wine. It has a more "package" store feel with a great selection of beer and wines, but has a couple of tables in the corner where you can order by the glass. Not a huge selection on that menu, but adequate and we enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. There is also a light fair menu, but we did not try that, so review is based entirely on wine/beer choices. I would stop in again. It was a great break from our trek through Asheville. read more

Very cool little spot we stopped into on Friday afternoon to buy some beer to take back home, easy to find right in downtown next to The Thirsty Monk and a block away from Jack of the Wood, and two blocks from Asheville Brewing. Wow this town is small and tightknit, I love it. It's mainly a wine store with a good sized area of wine shelving and tables for tastings, Friday had a small crowd but when we went back Saturday afternoon it was nearly full. The beer though is why I came in, and they have a very good selection for the size of the place, lots of local beers both on shelving and in coolers, and lots of glassware too which is a plus. I scored a rare bottle of Foothills Brewing here (their last one) then came back and bought a few more and found the prices a bit less than the other two places we went to over the weekend, another nice surprise. Definitely worth a trip to stock up on beer or wine. read more

I sat down outside this business around noon today. A man came out with menu in hand and offered to unlock his chairs for myself and a friend. Because I wasn't planning on being there long I said no, its okay about the chairs, but then asked to purcase a beverage. As I was sitting there several people who knew me stopped by to ask questions about some local events going on. Another friend came by after the others had left and so I went in and asked if the chairs could be unlocked, and was told no he was not going to unlock the chairs because he didn't like the "type" of people who were talking to me. I am not sure if he was referrring to thier race, or economic status. But his comments and actions towards clients was terrible, rude, and unamerican. read more
