The tour of the distillery is informative and to the point. The engineering minds will get their fix, basically. The tasting is of course, the best part. They have 4-5 offerings I believe, and they all have their niche. My personal favorite is one they don't seem to have on their website - it's a honey cinnamon whiskey. It was by far my favorite and was very smooth. I would definitely recommend a visit while in the Asheville area. Next door, you'll find Highland Brewing Company, which you might as well visit, since you're right there and all. It'd be a shame to not have a full experience. I believe they have food trucks that visit, but I haven't had an opportunity to try any during a visit (they weren't parked when we were there). Note: if you're from out of town (like me) be sure to check on the rules/regulations about buying to take home before you visit. Recently, the laws changed and you can buy ONE bottle per year from the distillery directly. ABC stores sell the alcohol as well, but supply is never guaranteed. Just be prepared so you can get what you like for yourself and anyone back home that you think would enjoy their spirits. Lastly, lady-owned business, woo hoo!

When we arrived, the tour was about done, but we were able to join the tasting. They had 3 offerings at the time, one that i believe was not even released yet. Smoother than what you might think of as a moonshine, interesting to sample and worth every penny i didn't have to pay since it was free.

No biggie. With that I got a tuna sub with lettuce, tomato, onion, peppers and salt and pepper. Delicious and the sandwich was HUGE. MUCH better than Subway. I have to point out; when I get a sandwich I usually get green peppers but they had mixed colors for their peppers. I made a comment of how I only get the green ones but that the mixed is fine; the guy grabs a handful and this sweet man picks out just the green peppers for my sandwich. He didn't have to do that and I was so very thankful. Huge plus for just that. Shows he actually cares and I love that! Wish I got his name. But sir, if you see this, THANK YOU!! You made my day with that small gesture. I walked around the store and stumbled upon the Snyders pretzel pieces and they were on sale 2/$5. I hadn't had those in forever so of course I bought two bags. The sour cream and caramelized onion flavor.....SO GOOD!!!!!! Will 100% go back if I'm ever in the area. I need to try more subs!

Instead of a kind welcome or "can we help you find anything?" I got the "this guy looks shady" look. When I asked if they had any cardamom bitters, there was a notable difference in their demeanor. I guess shady characters don't ask about cardamom? I don't know. Super cool and eclectic area to grab some really cool brews with some friends. The name doesn't fully encompass their offerings.

I was so pleasantly surprised to find excellent selection, excellent service, and a spacious, inviting store at Appalachian Vintner. . .I could not have asked for a better experience. I enjoyed listening to the local NPR station as I browsed their beers, segregated into regions like "East Coast" or "West Coast" and they had plenty of ciders I'd never seen in Tennessee. But the facility itself came across as hard and sterile. And all hard surfaces don't blend well with loud music. The service was adequate. We only stayed for one round of drinks. I'd come back if my buddy does another event there (maybe with earplugs), but otherwise can't see driving clear across town for what they offer.
