It is a nice "local" gift. Never having purchased it for myself, I sought out the actual distillery. The actual tour only took about 15 minutes. The tasting was another 15-20. My two favorites were the Oak and the Nectarine. I was a bit surprised by two things: 1. That I liked the Nectarine (fruity drinks are OKAY) 2. I preferred the Oak over the Blonde (I have been buying the Blonde for other people) However, you are only allowed to purchase one bottle, annually from the distillery (insert eye roll here). If you fall in love with the Nectarine, you must find a spirits store that carries it. Who needs moonshine when this is readily available?

The tour of the distillery is informative and to the point. The engineering minds will get their fix, basically. The tasting is of course, the best part. They have 4-5 offerings I believe, and they all have their niche. My personal favorite is one they don't seem to have on their website - it's a honey cinnamon whiskey. It was by far my favorite and was very smooth. I would definitely recommend a visit while in the Asheville area. Next door, you'll find Highland Brewing Company, which you might as well visit, since you're right there and all. It'd be a shame to not have a full experience. I believe they have food trucks that visit, but I haven't had an opportunity to try any during a visit (they weren't parked when we were there). Note: if you're from out of town (like me) be sure to check on the rules/regulations about buying to take home before you visit. Recently, the laws changed and you can buy ONE bottle per year from the distillery directly. ABC stores sell the alcohol as well, but supply is never guaranteed. Just be prepared so you can get what you like for yourself and anyone back home that you think would enjoy their spirits. Lastly, lady-owned business, woo hoo!

I have to point out; when I get a sandwich I usually get green peppers but they had mixed colors for their peppers. I made a comment of how I only get the green ones but that the mixed is fine; the guy grabs a handful and this sweet man picks out just the green peppers for my sandwich. I enjoyed listening to the local NPR station as I browsed their beers, segregated into regions like "East Coast" or "West Coast" and they had plenty of ciders I'd never seen in Tennessee.
