As many reviews before, have stated the ambience in this location is absolutely incredible. You truly feel like you've been taken back to the prohibition era and are in an upscale speakeasy. While we visited, I opted to do their gin flight which I love that they offer. That way you can try several of the different ones, and then, if you want a cocktail afterwards, you can enjoy. My husband opted for an old fashion, which was perfect for him, and again, just the ambience coupled with the vintageness of an old fashion, provided for a great experience. The gin flight was great, and I especially loved the barrel, rested and the chocolate orange. The Navy strength gin is very sharp on the pallet and has a little bite in the back. The bar area itself is known as antidote, and then the Chemist is essentially where they distill all of the gin and where are you can buy a bottle as well as other merchandise to take home with you

Amazing tasting room and cocktail bar; so beautiful and authentic! Wonderful experience with our host in the tasting room and then we went over to the bar and enjoyed a couple of delicious cocktails..don't know how we haven't found this place before. Will definitely be back!

It was like stepping back in time coming into this shoppe. We had wanted to come here on our last visit but beer won out with the choice of those days. The brick building looks so turn of the century and the inside matched with the wood accents and glass cabinets. Tastings are in a tiny thimble but don't be put off on that because that is enough to know you are drinking some quality gin. There were about five types with various flavors and qualities and the woman who served those explained everything well, but I was dazed focusing on the gin. I decided on the Navy Strength which is a very high proof but after the initial sock in the face is oh so smooth. According to the pourer, the name came from the British Navy when the enlisted men enjoyed rum the officers wanted gin as it was more civilized. The officers were concerned about being sold watered down gin and setting fire to the gin was proof that it hadn't been watered down. That is where the term "proof" came from but to me it's just good.

The AMBIANCE is everything here. Be prepared to take a trip in a Time Machine. Upon entering the Chemist I was transported to a time well before I was born when apothecaries were common facilities to treat all of your ailments. Such time and effort was put into making the Chemist a wonderful flashback in history. My mocktail was wonderful too. This is more of an adult stop, but I consider it a must stop. Even if you do not want a drink, stop, grab a snack, and appreciate the effort that went into creating this masterpiece.

Distillery with a bar attached. They make their own gin and whiskey in house, but they do have others. Didn't try the gin but the whiskey was not bad. Had the " Into the cauldron" very flavorful and enjoyed it. I am more of a straight whiskey drinker, but, when in Rome. The staff was friendly and the vibe was pretty cool. Made to look like and old apothecary store. Will come back to try some of the other drinks.

This is a cozy spot with great craft cocktails. I got the American Gin and Tonic and it was excellent and also unique. It's a pricey bar, but I found it to be worth it since I couldn't get the same thing somewhere else. There was both indoor and outdoor seating.

I didnt actually buy anything because I dont drink, but the aesthetic of the shop was so quirky and creative it literally PULLED me in as I was walking by. I was just here for the weekend as a wanderer from Philly, but I was highly impressed! And LOOK HOW COOL THE CHANDELIER WAS!!!

I've not seen a gin-only distillery before, let alone a mother and daughter distillery. To add to their unique character, they make 4 different gins! The shop had a wonderful old world feel and the woman leading the tasting was great. We had a great time and left with a couple of bottles. The South slope of Asheville is really something and this is a fun addition.

Absolutely a must-stop and do a gin tasting here when in AVL! The decor alone is worth a visit, but the story behind the gins and the tasting of their full line-up is where it's really at! The staff is so engaging, kind, informative, and knowledgeable! Loved perusing the space as it resembles an old-timey apothecary. They even sell proper gin-tasting glassware and other accoutrement. Highly recommend taking their gin sampler package for home before going to their bar Antidote, in the building right behind them. The founding mother-daughter team outdid themselves with full thematic development; from the building, to the interior, to little nuanced touches that show how much its a passion project.

Great place for gin tastings all made in house. I never knew there were different gins. Many are infused. They also make their own bitters. I purchased a sampler box. All the gins are available to purchase but the tastings are free, gratuity is appreciated. Check out the full bar next door called The Antidote. Unfortunately they don't open until 4 pm.

Custom made, imported, copper gin stills on display at Chemist Spirits in Asheville NC

Went for a friendly and informative tasting last fall with friends and everything about this place and its spirits is impressive. We left with several bottles ( which the helpful employee helped me sneak out as a present for my husband) and have spent the winter enjoying our home cocktails ever since! I recommend *Navy Strength- but taste them all yourself - none are not attractive in their own way. The gin stills used for production and on display are gorgeous!! AND I also appreciated how Covid conscientious they were - which is definitely a difficult proposition for a a tasting room.

If you're in Asheville and like Gin, then you definitely have to come by and check this place out. Even if you don't like Gin, you should pass by, just cuz the people working here are SO nice and the place is really cool. It's setup to look like an old apothecary. They also have a Gin that is aged in oak casks so it has a nice finish for people who might not be too keen on Gin or haven't crossed over to the Gin world yet. They also sell Fentiman's Tonic water which is amazing and they have really cool gift items you could buy.

Julie W.

Very funky vibe. Both the distillery side and the bar side evoke images of old apothecaries and speak easies. The distillery side offers free tastings while the bar offers up artisan cocktails. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. The help was friendly and efficient. Even purchased a bottle of their gin. (: will definitely stop back in whenever in the area!!

When I entered the establishment I was wowed at how cool the space is, I had no idea and honestly didn't have high expectations. The bar is decorated really cool with geometric wall designs and a giant hexagonal opening leading from one room to the other. Dalton Distillery also has Ping-Pong, a pool table, and video games. I had no idea. As I walked in, I was immediately curious as to how this place isn't more popular. There is plenty of seating with lots of chairs and a few couches. The Distillery is decorated with some cool furniture too and has some colorful graffiti murals. I am a very visual person and this place was surprisingly awesome inside. I'd love to come back with a group of friends for some Ping-pong and pool games! I was very happy to hear that my bourbon and gingers were only $4, a great deal that is a rarity in/near downtown Asheville. My friend ordered some of their housemade rum in a cocktail that neither of us enjoyed, but they have a pretty good beer selection so he left happy anyway. Overall this place was great and I can't wait to check it out again. I had to give Dalton Distillery 4 stars rather than 5 because the bartender was very unfriendly. I asked him many questions about the rum. I was very interested considering that they are a distillery and that is what they make, but he seemed annoyed by my questions and barely answered them. He talked to me in a way that was very arrogant and dismissive. I'd like to hope that next time I go in there is a different bartender or he has a better demeanor. Servers and bartenders play the role of being the face/representative of an establishment and for my first experience being here, there was not a good representation.

Did we have a good time overall? Yes. However, do I think…read moreit's worth the $92/person price tag all in with taxes and fees... to sample 5 places with varying portions of food and drink? Not quite. The classic before fees is $79/person. It offers "minimum of 5 stops and at least 2 drink pairings" from their website. Don't get me started on the 15.5% extra they tack on for "taxes and fees". If the unavoidable city tax for Asheville is 7%, the remainder is 8.5% for what? Their website/payment services? To be fair, the pricing is similar to one we took part in NOLA $78/person with Destination Kitchen but the food and portions were more balanced (albeit without drink pairings). For $10 more base price, you can book the high roller tour $89/person. After all is said and done I'm wondering if we should have spent the extra amount and upgraded to the high roller since the descriptor highlights "most elegant, trendy, and acclaimed" options. I understand the business also needs to make a profit along with giving a cut to the tour guides. At the beginning and throughout the tour, the guide continued to emphasize that if we were still hungry by the end that they have not done their jobs. However, there's more to consider. I'll go through the 5 places we tried and how one of the newest additions isn't even listed still on their website so if you were to look ahead of time for the offerings you would not expect it! We met our group inside the Grove Street Arcade on a Monday in September which is a great spot with some shops and public restrooms before we started. STOP 1 - The Rhu https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-rhu-asheville This is the cafe/breakfast bakery sister to Rhubarb, which is more upscale. They prepared a small cup of iced sweet tea with half of their breakfast sandwich. The refreshing tea with sugar cubes paired nicely with the buttery biscuit sandwich. Value: $8.50 for full sandwich and drink was not listed so going to estimate total is worth one sandwich. STOP 3 - Bold Rock https://www.yelp.com/biz/bold-rock-asheville-asheville The Cidery story actually started in VA but I'm glad they expanded to NC. We sampled a 6~7 oz cider paired with a Bruschetta and Bacon Apple Grilled Cheese. (American, cheddar, goat cheese, local apples, bacon, Dijon aioli, sourdough) It was super tasty and really enjoyed everything!! Value: ~$5 half pour, ~$10 for the food so one of the better values STOP 3 - Mëhfil https://www.yelp.com/biz/mehfil-asheville-2 Full buffet spread of ~6 Indian dishes with Mango Lassi and a tasty alcoholic beverage too! Now this place is the spot I mentioned isn't even listed with their logo on the restaurant page... I checked their Instagram which isn't updated frequently either and they announced just the day before our tour so this is brand NEW. Unfortunately this is one of the cuisines my SO does not eat. We would not have known that reserving in advance... which is a shame. Value: ~$25-30 honestly since they were offering generous full size portions of their dishes that you could serve yourself, this was hands down the best cost wise. If you were to fill up it would be at this stop. The staff were also super nice and hospitable! STOP 4 - Manicomio Pizza https://www.yelp.com/biz/manicomio-pizza-asheville Plain and simple pizzeria with some funky designs. We sampled a single slice which may have been their special of the day with cherry tomato and artichoke and a lemon wedge to spritz. It tasted good, but forgettable. They just gave us water. Value: $5.50 by the slice for daily special STOP 5 FINAL - Sunshine Sammies https://www.yelp.com/biz/sunshine-sammies-asheville Makes sense we'd end on dessert and we sampled 1/2 a sandwich of I believe their seasonal pumpkin! It was a sweet way to conclude the tour. Value: $4, a full size seasonal flavor is $8 I was full from the generous spread offered at Mëhfil which carried the food and drink side of the tour. Unfortunately my SO didn't get to fully enjoy the experience, and there was no way we could have expected they'd take us to the new restaurant that was just announced. Even being generous with some of my estimates, I landed at value of ~$60, which is still short of the cost you're paying especially when more than half of these locations are more fast casual spots. The most disappointing was the pizzeria, since aside from the artwork I didn't feel anything unique about the taste and seems like a wasted opportunity given the list of other more interesting restaurants. I enjoyed the historical information the guide sprinkled throughout along with background about each of the locations. Next time I'll keep in mind for Mondays where many restaurants aren't open.

However, I never received the updated paperwork and tried over 3 months to get a response from J.C. as to whether Asheville Brews Cruise would still be able to provide a tour for my bachelorette. With no response, I assumed that Asheville Brews Cruise could no longer support a tour for my bachelorette party and therefore booked a tour with a different company and asked for a refund of my original deposit. With again no response, in February, I finally tried messaging Asheville Brews Cruise over Instagram to get a refund on my deposit. J.C. finally responded and noted that he would reach out about a refund. But to this day I have still not received that refund after trying to communicate with Asheville Brews Cruise over email, text, and through multiple phone calls. While I understand that all businesses in Asheville are going through a hard time post hurricane, the lack of responsiveness over 5 months and failure to refund my substantial deposit has put me at my wits end. I would not recommend booking with this company for any future tours.
