We had Dim Sum there Sunday. They weren't packed, but had a good crowd. I was very impressed with what they had - I was afraid, being Grand Rapids, it would be too tame. But, they had all sorts of great things. We had Jellyfish, chicken feet, shrimp balls (didn't care for the texture or flavor of them), shrimp dumplings, sticky rice, steamed chinese broccoli, pork spare ribs, shu mei. They weren't real attentive to us and it took a while to get our first serving, but once we started ordering, they paid more attention. They serve dim sum during the week also, but you order it off the menu. Sunday is when they have the steam carts they push around. Definately worth going back. Even with all we ordered, after leaving I realized there were a few things I love that we didn't get. They also sell roast duck, bbq pork, and a few other things by the pound to go. I had the General Tso's chicken and thought I might cry. My group thought I was a tad crazy as I sat there with this expression they'd never seen before. When they asked me what was wrong, I said, "Is this Tso's chicken?" When I was assured it was by our server, I said, "What the hell have I been eating everywhere else?" A-flogging-mazing food. They serve fresh, loose leaf tea that floored the tear drinkers of the group, and was appreciated among the non-tea drinkers that ventured a taste. I can't even tell you about the hand make crab rangoon. The sauce that you dip in, not quite sweet and sour, but amazing non-the-less. Horrible service!!! I am from the US capital of Chinese food - Los Angeles! So I know I have to lower my expectation. But I was thoroughly disappointed with the service I received at this restaurant (and I am used to bad Chinese restaurant service) 1) ordered roast pork and duck over rice. The roast pork did not have a single piece of skin on the entire plate. Taste of meat and duck was fine, but the point of eating roasted pork is to eat the skin. I debated whether to bring this up and opted not to say anything and boiled internally. The cut if the duck was horrible too, all bone, no meat / not much skin. Good thing I am trying to lose weight and cut down on meat. 2) rice was really hard to the point it hurts your stomach (and I usually like my rice on the hard side, that's the only reason I was able to eat it) 3) instead of pouring the duck sauce over the rice, they pour soy sauce and this is just wrong 4) wanting the get some veggie, the waitress never told me my rice already come with enough portion of veggie, when I ordered a separate veggie (same kind), she did not tell me. The menu listed two prices for the veggie, $6 and $9.95. I was dining by myself, my fault for not checking with the waitress, when I got the bill I got charged $9.95 for the veggie 5 that I did not touch. I asked them I thought it's $6? They said that's only during lunch hours on weekdays, but this was nowhere mentioned on the menu. The waitress really should have checked with me whether i am ordering the $6 or the $9.95 portion, this is just bad service. This place is awesome. I've never been to an 'official' dim sum place before but I will definitely be back for more. The other reviews are spot on. If you're the average white west Michigander, you may be apprehensive about checking the place - it does not look like much from the road, and its a not a national chain with terrible food - but you must go. I took my mother and my little ones and had an amazing meal for like $60 and a fantastic time. There is a great big fish tank teeming with fish, and it doesn't have any coral if you know what I mean. We got a lot of smiles from locals too because when we showed up we were the only white faces and we didn't have a clue, but we learned quick. It was also nice to see that little Asian kids do the same thing with their chop sticks as mine. Namely, they stab their food with the chop sticks. Made it a bad experience that I don't think we will be going there again! Plus the tip is already added on to your bill. We weren't planning on giving that server a tip because she didn't deserve it. At least it's not spoiled. The spare ribs is better swallowed than chewed cause it's so chewy you just bite and bite till it's thin enough to swallow - not tender at all. The shrimp siomai and shrimp balls ( the wrapper it came with ) tasted like it can use 5 more minutes of steaming to cook. The waitress have a pissed- off demeanor. I think courtesy is nonexistent here. This will be our go to place from now on for take out! The food was really good and prices were good as well considering how much was served. We went here with a large group of people and we were very satisified. I would recommend this to anyone in the area. ***Update*** Came here a second time and was displeased with the service. My husband ordered chicken lol mein and when they brought it out it was shrimp. The waitress apologized and kept asking him, will you eat this instead? My husband told her her preferred chicken and she asked if he would eat this instead. He gave up and decided to eat it and pick around the shrimp. When the bill came out she upcharged him $7 for shrimp. I can tell you that the cheap, minimal amount of shrimp they put in there was not worth $7. She refused to take it off the bill stating he was okay with it. After several minutes of discussing the bill I informed her that I would pay but would not be leaving a tip which I've never done even with bad service but I felt like she was trying to scam us out of money. It's best to come with a large group and order family style, so you get to taste a bit of everything. For some, the exterior may be a turn off, as the building looks old and worn. Connected a Chinese grocery, there is a certain scent that may be a bit off-putting to some. Once you get past this, the interior of the restaurant is set up for banquet style meals, which can appear empty at times and makes the chatter of the workers more prominent. Being that this location is the only place in the Grand Rapids area to serve some Dim Sum, it was alright. When you want some good Dim Sum, you would have to travel to Chicago, IL and hit Chinatown there in order to get authentic Dim Sum. Since I don't have the time nor money for gas, this place will do. Wei Wei is a typical Asian scene. You walk in and you're seated right away. When you're there during the Dim Sum hours, you'll witness a cart of food being pushed around. These small dishes are like tapas, it's meant to be shared with a group of friends. The service there isn't great, so don't come in with high hopes for great service. The service is meant to help clean up as well as get you in and out since they get so busy during Dim Sum hours (keep in mind they are the only ones in the area that serve this type of food) The meals are cheap and you can order other Chinese food items as well. So, if you're not a fan of Dim Sum, they are also a Chinese Restaurant. The great thing about this restaurant is that it is located in a mini strip mall of other Asian shops. You'll see a bakery, supermarket, jewelry store, cell phone store, and a salon all in one strip. You can walk around and browse through the shops after eating to burn those calories! read more

One of our favorite places for dim sum, always worth the 2 1/2 hour drive. Sesame balls with sweet red bean paste, sticky rice wrapped with Chinese sausage wrapped in lotus leaves, steamed dumplings with shrimp and cilantro...and so much more. Peking ducks hanging in the window, live fish swimming in tanks, so fish you order is very fresh. I love this place, even though it is located in an outdated mini Asian mall, food is worth it. I am rating strictly for the food, not the location, ambiance or anything else. It all tasted really good, though the Chinese broccoli was a little too oily for me. I'd definitely recommend the congee for parties of 4+ because there was no way my friend and I could finish it ourselves (don't worry, we got a to-go container). Decent service for how busy it was. Located inside a shopping center with some Vietnamese establishments inside, my party came here because I wanted to treat them to dim sum, and this was the first location that came up when we searched for it in this area. I suppose this time I took the role of the tour guide because one of the (American) members of my party experienced culture shock from the experience. Since we came slightly after noon (by my experience, most dim sum places tend to slow down after noon), there were only two carts walking around offering dim sum to everyone and it took a few minutes to get over to our table. It is priced by the plate. Compared to Southern California, the minimum price is slightly higher (there's no "small" category, only "medium" and "large"). The turnip cake was also not cooked to order, so it was room temperature when they gave it to us. But I don't expect every place to do that and it didn't make me sick, so it's not a big deal. However, the food that was served hot was very good and was of similar quality to many dim sum places in both Northern and Southern California. read more

We get a large order of beef lo mein or fried rice and everyone grabs an order or two of dim sum. Family of 4 fed for around 30 bucks and its so good. Pros and Cons to save time: Pros: -Dim sum and lots of items on menu -Serves fresh bbq duck and pork -Clean Cons: -Not enough meat in my Curry Beef -Waitress didn't smile when she came over, nor did she notice my friend spilling his tea all over the table. Needless to say, I helped him clean it up. Overall, the food was ok at best. It's nothing I havent had before, but this is only my first time here. My friends seemed to have enjoyed their dish. The best person that worked there was the American girl who was cleaning the tables, at least she smiled and seemed to be enjoying her job (it doesnt matter what you do, it's how you do it). Ok...when you walk in to the building, be warned that you're going to experience a bit of stink. Just think of that as an indicator that you're going to have some authentic Chinese food. The food here is stunning. I would highly recommend this fried squid dish (served on lettuce) and MyFun (sp?). Whatever you decide to order, you can be sure you're getting the most authentic and true-to-form Chinese food available in West Michigan. If I could add 0 starts I would, I went there December 12th at around 6:30 and I ask the front counter lady for 2 roast duck and she was yelling in Chinese and saying in English "we don't open, we close now" and I know dang well the sign says close at 9pm, and she said she can't sell me roast duck and she went to the back yelling in Chinese and came back with two roast duck and I told her I only want one, and holy sheet she was pissed she started yelling at me and my fiancé and said if I wanted one I should've said and if I wanted two I should've said so, I told her I'll take two and she went to the back and put one duck away anyways and she ringed me up, whole time she was talking to one of the waiter, he is a young man and she was cussing and having a bad attitude, she made us feel uncomfortable and very awkward and very unprofessional and DISGUSTING energy to be around, she's in her mid 30's and she looks miserable. read more

I really love dim sum, which is why I was super disappointed with my visit here... many of the items we attempted to order were out and what we were served seemed stale (e.g. shumai). Great dimsum. The steamed shrimp dumplings are my favorite! Sometimes I do wonder if the dumplings are good enough for me to ignore the sketchy looking block of wood behind the counter where they chop all the "bbq" and duck - it looks like it has not been cleaned for ages (or EVER). I have always had my doubts about the food handling practices in this place - that block of wood just looks like it has no place in an eating establishment. But the food is really good. I am seriously torn between really wanting to eat here and really never wanting to eat here again. The end result is that I rarely eat here. But I still do. Once in a while.
