There's something about being the only diners in a restaurant that's about to close. We didn't feel too lonely, though, because there were plenty of staff and they all kept up the conversation. In fact, I couldn't help but be a little paranoid since I don't speak Mandarin/Cantonese (see I can't even tell) that they were probably complaining about us. After reading the rave reviews and in need of some Chinese food, we called despite the late hour to see how late they would accept orders and was told that they take orders up until 9:00 p.m. (Friday/Sat). The restaurant is just a bit past the auto malls on Route 4/Center Street and you would definitely miss it if it weren't for GPS. It's not visible at all from the road and is the last unit in a collection of strip mall buildings though I wouldn't qualify it as a mall. We tentatively approached the entrance as we noted there were no cars at all except for the ones parked in back - probably belonging to the employees. I'm pretty sure that, despite the bright, cheerful dining room, the bulk of the business here is take out and I was too hungry to drive home 25 miles with hot Chinese food sitting on my lap and being seduced by the aroma. So we bravely entered and were accommodated right away with no withering looks. I noticed a big white screen and an expensive overhead projector and, judging from the plaques awarded by local community organizations, gathered that these groups conduct lunchtime meetings with presentations requiring this equipment. We also noted that we were being surveilled by a bevy of discreet cameras photographing our every move. Our waitress, the owner, graciously took our order and I impulsively requested crab rangoons since they were raved about in other reviews. Then we noticed the dinner box specials that included 2 appetizers, a side dish and a choice of rice so when she brought the perfectly crisp Rangoons, I remarked I had overlooked that and inquired if it would be possible to count the appetizer with the special. She was a bit apprehensive at first but figured since we were both ordering the special, that it would count towards our appetizer choice. BTW, the ordering system is executed with a tablet which I thought was pretty cool. Of course I had to comment on it... I ordered the Shrimp U Shang of which I had never heard - it's basically shrimp, broccoli and red bell peppers with hot red peppers infused into the sauce but with the comments of some reviewers that the food was bland, I decided to be bold and ordered it medium. Well, my bad, I'm not keen on spicy foods so probably should have stuck with the gringo version. The portions were small but, because I had eaten 4 rangoons, I was not as hungry so I took home the rest of my food. The food was presented in a portioned tray so that no dish touched the other and, since we had screwed up and ordered a regular sized appetizer, there were sections that were void of food so it did look a little skimpy. The fried rice was rather brown and didn't come with the usually egg, peas and carrots. Despite the cheap drinks, we stayed with the tap water and free tea was offered. The tea definitely tempered the heat of the main dish but I cautioned the DC about drinking water to douse the fire as we all know it spreads the heat. The matriarch of the family continuously refilled our glasses though and I really did feel attended too even though the restaurant was about to close. In no way were we made to feel bad that we were eating late. I had to remind myself that even in Portland, restaurants are typically open at least until 10:00 on a weekend night but Wei-Li is located on the outskirts of Auburn so perhaps people around here turn in early for the night. I was half expecting people to be just finishing up their meals so we wouldn't be under such intense scrutiny. We left sated and I would return but would order from another part of the menu - perhaps the "healthy" section and definitely would avail myself of a cheap Polynesian beverage. read more

My favorite Chinese Asian food place in the world. I have been to many many Chinese restaurants and Wei-Li is still by far the best I have ever had. The food is fresh and delicious, not greasy at all. I eat as much as I want and still feel great after. The place it self is pretty nice with a projector with relaxing Chinese landscapes and what not playing in the background, with a fish tank and traditional Chinese decorations. Our family had a gathering here and the restaurant put tables together to host us. The food was delic and the staff was very patient as we came a bit late. They served us promptly and we even had to order more since we had more attend than we had originally thought. The place is a bit small but it was perfect for our group. They brought out hot and sour, beef wonton, wonderful green beans, a pan fried noodle plate, and much more. This is the first time I have gone here and wonder why I haven't before. read more

Let me preface this with saying...this USED to be one of my favorite restaurants in Auburn. I ordered take out on Saturday evening (3/7/2020), I was told wait time would be about an hour...a busy Saturday night, that's fine. I showed up after 60 minutes and was told all of my food wasn't ready....the sushi was ready and sitting on the counter in a brown bag at room temperature for who knows how long...but the other meal wasn't ready and wouldn't be ready for another 20-25 minutes. I was clearly annoyed as we'd already waited 60 minutes and to be told it would be another 25 minutes was unacceptable. I got an attitude from the male host that really pissed me off, especially for the amount of business I do at Wei Li. I was given a brown bag that had the sushi in it, which had been sitting on the counter at room temperature for who knows how long. I canceled my order for the meal and just wanted to pay for my sushi and leave. The same host I dealt earlier with continued to give me an attitude when I tried to cancel my order, this was totally unacceptable and unprofessional. I got the sushi home and opened it and got hit in the face with an overwhelming fish smell, like raw fish that had been sitting out too long. I threw it in the trash not wanting to risk it. I am upset that I wasted my time and my money, but most upset that a place I've enjoyed for years I will no longer go to. There's other places in auburn that can have my business. read more

Went around 5pm all the booths were taken so we were seated at a table across from the large fish tank with exotic fish. Our drink order was taken within 3 minutes and another person who seated us came over to make sure our drink order was taken. We looked through the well detailed menu showing photos of a well assortments of asian foods from Chinese to Sushi it was fabulous. Our food first came with the Miso soup which was perfectly hot. It tasted so good and was very fresh. My husband received his meal first which was General Chicken with a side of pork fried rice. I then received my order which was #1 Combination of Sushi , California roll and an assortment of Salmon . Tuna, Swordfish, Shrimp over a small tblsp of rice. They offered 2 types of soy , regulars and low sodium. I was not full so i ordered a plate of their famous green bean, which we received very hot. The drinks were a Mai Tai and a Long Island Ice Tea. Very good as well. Our total was under $65. I would recommend going here for family or friend or romantic visit. Very nice staff. Not too personable but polite. Cant wait to go again. Last time we got the boxes which was a great option to try a little of everything. This trip was our second time hear. read more

Honestly the best Chinese food I've ever had. My boyfriend and I love ordered the dinner boxes to go when we are staying overnight in auburn. Nothing like good quality, fresh, tasty Chinese food while relaxing in your hotel room! I will say that ordering out is probably best. We went there to dine-in for the first time last night and it was packed. Service was so-so because of how busy they were. We didn't get water until the end of our meal. Wei-Li really is as good as it gets. Great food, a fantastic variety, and best of all run by one of the nicest families. The service is top-notch every single time. We've made Wei-Li one of our regular spots for going out, due not only to the freshness and quality of the food, but because it's a perfect place to bring our two young children (4 and 8). Within the last year Wei-Li has started offering sushi, which is all made fresh at the dining room sushi bar and is really fantastic. My husband and I love it and it's great to be able to get it in L/A. I like the healthy options on the menu, as well as the standard fare, and they have kids' meals that are really appealing as they contain some familiar American foods (yogurt, mixed fruit) along with a few Chinese favorites. I can't remember ever having a bad meal here and as I said before the service is so great that it's an all-around very pleasant dining experience. Anywhere that makes it easy to eat with our kids gets a huge thumbs up. Recently we met my folks there and my father commented how quickly the staff whisked tables together for us the moment we walked in the door, and how attentive they were throughout the meal. My dad's not a very expressive guy so for him to notice and actually comment on it says a whole lot! We've eaten here just as our family of four, up to fifteen people for a birthday party and we have never had any trouble getting seated and served with the same excellent service. Really, I can't say enough about it - everything is made so easy and pleasant that we don't think twice, now, about suggesting it when we're making plans. The staff knows our kids and we always end up chatting with them when we're there, which is really nice. We run into them at Blackie's all the time, too, buying produce! There's a real feeling of community there which I love. The food! I already talked about the sushi, which is great - my husband and 8-year old son get the vegetarian options, the Vegetable Roll and the Haiku Roll are favorites. My top choices are the Caterpillar Roll and the Toussant Roll. Delicious! The kids adore the fried dumplings and the beef teriyaki, and my daughter talks all the time about getting noodles there. I love the Energy Soup (great for cold season) and the Hot and Sour Soup. For standard fare we enjoy General Bean Curd (you can request any meat dish with tofu instead), any of the Dinner Boxes, and their fried rice is really exceptional. I typically don't like fried rice due to its greasiness but Wei-Li makes theirs so it's fluffy and flavorful without being too oily. Hmm, anything else? Parking is easy in the lot outside, the place is intimate without being stuffy, decor is lovely, bathrooms are always sparkling clean, and they have a big fish tank in the back which is a hit with the kids when they start getting restless. They have a big projection television that helps keep the kids contained, playing interesting things about Chinese antiques or acrobats or just lovely scenery - it's not so distracting that it takes away from the meal like you'd find in a sports bar. It's a nice perk, though, and adds to the "ease of use" factor. Oops, I just had to edit because I forgot to mention take out and delivery! They offer a 10% discount if you pick up, which is awesome, but they also deliver to the house which is very convenient. Any time we've ordered out the wait time is only 15-20 minutes. They do a great job packing up the food, nothing arrives smooshed or leaky. Quick, easy, and awesome. I can't say enough about this place. As you can tell from my review we are regulars, we don't eat out a whole lot but when we do this restaurant is at the very top of our list! read more

Very simple ,good quality food. Took mother in law and hubby here. the only problem I had with this place was the Won Ton Soup was luke warm. HELLO?? Soup is supposed to HOT not TEPID. I got sick of luke warm soup at a Chinese restaurant before so I usually get really freaked when I get luke warm soup. I think places are spooked by the MacDonalds incident of burning yourself on food. HOT food is GOOD food. Ok, enough of that. I had the Pu Pu Platter for one. It was so fresh and healthy. Not greasy. This is my daughter's favorite restaurant and is always her choice when she gets to choose. The family who runs it are extremely nice - well known in the local community. It is a little different - lighter/healthier than your average Chinese. There is this really lovely elderly woman that is always there who I think does not speak a word of English (the grandmother?) who always makes sure your water glass is full (cold ice water automatically as soon as you sit down)- even if you only took a few sips out of it. Strangely, that is my favorite part of the experience. Recommend the House Pan Fried Noodles - you can't go wrong. read more

This was my first Chinese food experience after moving to Lewiston a week ago and I came across Wei-Li from its stellar reviews on Yelp. Thankfully, I was not disappointed. I order chicken Mei Fun (known on their menu as rice noodles) and it was honestly the bets I have ever had. I also had a side order of crab rangoons which were crispy and filled to to the brim with a delicious mix of crab meat and cream cheese. This restaurant does not use MSGs, a point that I was surprised and skeptical of at first. Nonetheless, absolutely delicious. Service was great and quick. Order takeout and it was ready in 20 minutes. Would definitely go again to try more off of the menu! read more

Out of all the Chinese style restaurants I've tried on the Lewiston/Auburn area, this was the better of those experiences. It took over an hour for my take out order to be finished but it seemed very busy there for a week night. The majority of the patrons were picking up orders, however the atmosphere looked nice. Food was decent for Chinese, I would go again. They left some food out of my order, which I didn't realize until I got home. This restaurant is something of a boast of the area! My girlfriend had told me about this place for months. I had no idea. First it was voted top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the US. I had the dinner combo it was simple but enough. You pick entree, side, and two apps plus choice of rice. It was a bit pricey at 13.99 but taste counts. You can tell they use quality oil or it is changed frequently. I can tell they don't cut corners with the small things like tea, napkins, and quality menu. I am also delighted to know they don't keep secrets and have cooking classes which also come with a Cantonese lesson. Wei-li, I believe you have my attention! read more

Consistently delicious!! The food is freshly prepared and wonderful, including the sushi. We have eaten here at least 25 times and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere lacks a bit (clean and pleasant but not impressive ... it's in a strip mall after all) but the quality of the food and the friendliness of the family who owns this restaurant make Wei Li well worth seeking out. Horrible. The "Amazing Bean Curd" did inspire wonder: I wonder how anyone could eat this. Not spicy hot as labeled, it was saccharine. My dining partner could not stomach for than a bite or two. My Lo Mein was almost entirely noodle, almost free of cabbage and the spare selection of vegetables. The noodles seemed stale. The brown sauce lacked flavor. I cannot recall a worse rendering of this staple dish. The spring rolls, also lacked flavor, and featured an absurd proportion of wrapper to filling. How this place won an award, I can't imagine. Even in Lewiston you can surely do better. read more
