Last month, me, my high school bestie, and my favorite niece attended the Lincoln Strawberry Festival at Wegmeyer Farms. I had never even heard of this event and I simply loooove ALL things strawberry, so I knew I just had to be there. We enjoyed (read: devoured) the strawberry pancake breakfast, courtesy of Lincoln Elementary School. The pancakes were served hot with a dollop of whipped cream and syrup (maple or strawberry -- of course I opted for strawberry -- and it was delish!) We made a few strawberry-flavored/inspired purchases, including syrup, donuts, cookies, and a plushie I enjoyed most of my strawberry shortcake (made with fresh donuts, sliced strawberries, vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream -- omg!) on my way home. It was such a beautiful day and we really enjoyed ourselves. Even though we didn't partake in the strawberry picking, we took advantage of a few photo ops throughout the farm. My family and I attended their strawberry festival and loved it. I first heard of this festival on Great Day Washington. I actually was there for another segment and met the owner and heard about this festival. At the time, I didn't know where this farm was in relation to DC since I recently moved back. However, after a little research, I realized this would be a wonderful place to visit with my kids. The festival in 2025 had a few vendors, a big sand box, a stage and food area, along with a lot of farm equipment for kids to climb on, a bouncy house, and craft areas. My kids spent a bulk of their time in the sand box, while I enjoyed the games scattered about like the ring game and cornhole. The festival also had free face painting, so we headed right to that area first. The highlight for our kids was the "Frozen" concert featuring a talented nearby Middle School. I grew up doing musical theater and loved the enthusiasm and performance of this group. I could see the passion come through! Finally, before heading home, we grabbed a basket to do some strawberry picking. For $35, you can dig through the bushes and pick your own strawberries. Our kids loved this, despite their dad's exhaustion and having to do manual labor at this point of the day! But in the end, we got a lovely basket of strawberries (even if their dad would have been equally happy stopping at Whole Foods along the way home!). Always a treat to score a reservation at Wegmeyer Farms. About 6pm exactly you have to get onto their website to get a timed ticket for the next day. The spots go fast but it's not a difficult process. On the day of prepare for a bumpy gravel road to the farm. Once you're there it's a beautiful, clean and well organized experience. The rows of strawberries and filled with ripe ones for you to pick. No time limit to fill your bucket and a great place to get cute family photos. There's a little shop on site for extra strawberry goodies, donuts, pies, muffins, popcorn, jams and more. Bring a picnic blanket in case the picnic tables are filled. They have shade and a basketball area and ring game for the kids to play. Overall a great time! read more

This was definitely a great late-spring/early-summer activity with friends. We stopped by this past Sunday afternoon for some strawberry picking and some strawberry goods. Make sure to grab a reservation the day before! The mornings are super popular, but there are plenty of afternoon time slots if you're OK with that. There are two Wegmeyer Farms strawberry picking locations, so make sure you go to the right one you got reservations for. Each reservation is by family/group and is 30.00 and comes with a bucket to fill your strawberries in. You also get your own two rows when you pick your strawberries, so even if you're in the afternoon slot, you don't have to worry about there not being enough strawberries. Overall, my friends and I had a lot of fun picking strawberries and we took a lot of pictures. They're super tiny and super sweet - definitely pull through to pick strawberries while they're in season. I'm glad to finally check strawberry picking off my bucket list. They sell really fresh and delicious cake donuts here, 12.00 for half a dozen (with strawberry glaze that actually taste like strawberries, not some weird, processed, and overly sweet artificial flavors). These donuts were still good the day after! I also got a bag of strawberry flavored popcorn (think caramel popcorn but strawberry, lol) for 10.00 that was unique but not my cup of tea. read more

You have to reserve a reservation online on their website and pay $30 reservation fee ( only need 1 reservation per family) and it will include 1 basket. Upon arrival, the attendant will show you where to park. Then you will check-in with the staff and they will give you the basket, give you instructions and show you which lane to pick. The nice thing about this farm is each party will get their own lane to pick. So it's not overly crowded and even if your reservation is at the later time in the day, you don't have to worry about there no strawberries left to pick. Afterwards, you can visit their store for some goodies(Donut, jams, fudge,drink and ice cream). Overall, the farm picking system is very organized, staffs are amazing and very helpful. Definitely a family friendly activity to do with your family. P.s. Each reservation is $30 which include 1 basket. Any extra basket is additional $30. We had a great time picking strawberries at Wegmeyers! You have to sign up for a time slot the day before and they post them anywhere between 5-7pm the evening before. The after work spots (during the week) are the most popular so it took us a couple days to get a spot, but so glad we did! Lovely drive to the farm (we came from Hillsboro) and the experience was great. This was my first time ever strawberry picking. The strawberries were plentiful, beautiful, and delicious. The guide sets you up with a row all to yourself for leisurely picking. Would highly recommend the visit! They also sell some local honey, jam, and soft serve ice cream (the strawberry is made with their strawberries of course)! read more

This is such a beautiful farm and I cannot wait to stop by during berry-picking season. The drive here adds to the appeal; the road to the farm is a rough country road so take your time driving. There are a number of private residences along the way so be mindful as you're passing by. They are very organized with managing COVID safety, have ample parking and portable bathrooms available for use. read more

Easily one of the best fruit picking experiences I have ever had. Its easy to get to and has plenty of parking. Unlike many other farms, they don't cram as many reservations in as possible- so it was busy without being anywhere near crowded. It was easy to figure out where to go- one of the staff gave us our bucket and another took us out to a row of strawberries assigned just to our family. The bushes were chock full of ripe berries- filling up the basket was not an issue. Especially since these were some of the best strawberries I have ever tasted (Its very hard to go back to store bought after you have had these!) After filling up we stopped by the farm store for some drinks and a box of a half dozen strawberry glazed donuts, then sat down at the picnic tables and had a nice afternoon snack- highly recommend the donuts, they were excellent. A disappointment. Clearly, on the website, it cited appointments from 9:00 - 5:00. I picked the earliest available, 12:15. With the road conditions, I was a little late for my appointment. The high school kids were great but the female manager was smug and told me I'd better hurry up cause they close at 1:00, even though their hours still said 9:00 - 5:00 on the website. Didn't think that would be a problem to pick a bucket but the strawberries were very small, overpicked, and this is no way someone can pick enough of those little things to fill their bucket in 35 minutes. At precisely 1:00, I was herded up to leave, even though I only had half a bucket (and I know how to pick strawberries). If they know they don't have enough product to fill a bucket in a reasonable amount of time, they should just close for the season, or get a manager who gives a darn about customer service. $30 for less than 2 pints is ridiculous. read more

Requires a reservation but this is not made clear on their webpage, and they make absolutely no exceptions. The main page says "U-pick strawberry reservations are open and available;" if reservations are mandatory it needs to clearly state that, otherwise it reads as though they are optional. It is ridiculous anyway to require a reservation. I've been to many pumpkin patches/strawberry picking farms and I've never heard of mandatory reservations. Since we didn't have one, we were turned away even though they weren't that busy and could have easily accommodated us. Why wouldn't they want our money? Speaking of which, $30 for bucket is a complete racket. Finally, at the time we were there it was run entirely by teenagers. The oldest kid there was a junior in high school, probably 17. When I asked to speak to a manager/adult, they told me they didn't know where she was, that maybe she was at the other farm. If not some kind of labor law violation, I think it is at a minimum unacceptable, unsafe, and poor business practice to only have children on the premises running your operation with zero adult supervision. read more

I wish there was a zero star. We tried to get reservations for today 5/27 and the website crashed leaving us unable to have a chance at getting reservations. I called today to ask if there was anything they could do and was treated very rudely. The teenager who answered the phone told me to try again tomorrow. We aren't available tomorrow. He asked his manager about it and she mocked us in the back ground and then the guy hangs up on me with no explanation. I work in customer service and this was the worst experience i have ever had. Very disappointing experience. We really wanted to make a trip to this farm and pick strawberries; however, due to confusion with the online reservation we were unable to transfer our reservation as well as $. It's not so much the $ it's the fact that the "owner" who couldn't even call us back, wouldn't budge on his/her "policy" and that IF we transferred our reservation we would be taking someone's else spot... but we already paid and it was meant for 5/31 the whole time and not today. People make mistakes especially online so we take accountability for that, but when a business is inflexible then that's just poor poor business. We will definitely be taking our business somewhere else. I just find this hilarious over strawberries... anyways do yourself a favor and find another farm that treats their customers respectfully especially if you are making a drive there. read more

Fresh quality strawberries ready to be picked at your leisure with ample space to picnic before or after. It's a quaint family-run farm out in leesburg that requires a trek down an unpaved road but the peaceful surroundings and gorgeous setting, nature at it's best farm style. There's even a playground for the kids to play and quite a few shade trees to enjoy. Tyler, the owner is the sweetest person and had no problem imparting his knowledge of strawberries to this very curious city-girl. When we got there around 11am, the patch was already picked out til tomorrow but he still showed me the patch and explained how one day in the sun will ripen all the currently un-ripe berries. Amazing! I had no idea that when they start blooming it's a daily thing! They go from tiny white flowers, to tiny lime green berries that then turn white and finally go red! I got to see the berries in all their forms traversing his lovely patch. I can honestly tell you, you have not lived until you have sunk your teeth into a warm sun-kissed strawberry picked with your own hands. There's nothing fresher and they are sooo juicy and flavorful! I had a great experience here even though I didn't get to pick a whole bucket of them. TIP: call ahead if you aren't going to be there when it opens, when they run out if berries it isn't their fault, but if you call they will let you know if the fields are still berryful! read more

Strawberry fields forever... Well, not forever. Wegmeyer isn't a huge farm, but it does have some nice strawberry patches that are perfect for picking with your favorite wee ones. When they open for strawberry season, you had better get here early. The first day they opened, we thought about heading over and thankfully called in advance - by 10:30 am they were already picked out for the day! We went the following day and made sure to get there before they opened (at 9 am) but apparently we weren't the only ones with that idea - about 6-8 other families arrived even before we did. By the time we finished picking and enjoyed a little picnic - around 10:30 - the place was jam-packed and they were turning people away. So plan ahead. I really love and appreciate how well organized Wegmeyer is. They've got a great system that I haven't seen at other (bigger) farms. It isn't a pick-your-own free-for-all; when you arrive and "check-in", you will be guided to a specific row from which you can harvest the goodies. The farmer who brought us to our row was a sweet older man (probably the owner?) and gave us a little mini-lesson on strawberry growing and harvesting. When a row is being picked, a little red flag is put at the end of the row to signal that it is taken. We were given another red flag to put at whatever point in the row we decided to stop - that way, they know they can start a new person off from where we stopped. Strawberries were $3.99/lb, which is what we pay for organic strawberries at Safeway in DC, but it was totally worth the hour drive out here for the experience. It is really lovely and we saw so many kids just having a great time. Our daughter (12 months old) was too young to do any picking, but she very much enjoyed the fruits of our labor :) There is a little playground area for kids and refreshments for sale, too, including a strawberry sundae (you better believe we got one - even at 10 am! ha!), strawberry jam, strawberry pie, strawberry slushies...you get the picture. And kids get a complimentary little strawberry activity book. Very cute. We will definitely be back to Wegmeyer! read more

So cute and so fun! With an added bonus of being really reasonably priced. We hit the end of the season but will probably end up making weekly visits next Spring, my 4 year old was had a blast. Tip: If you are taking 50 to 15 (from Fairfax area) you will pass their other two strawberry picking locations. The one on the corner of 50 and 15 is tucked behind where they have a Sunday Farmer's Market. 2: Buy the basket for a dollar and bring it back for future transportation of berries home. 3: When you get home (this works for any berry), rinse your berries and soak in a water/vinegar bowl for 10 minutes, rinse again and store in the fridge. They will last twice as long and I promise they will not taste like vinegar. read more

We haven't visited the Hamilton farm or the Oatland's Plantation strawberry patches, but picking your own strawberries is something that you can also experience at Gilbert's Corner (closer to home if you live in Aldie, South Riding, and other points further east of 50). We'd always noticed The Pit Stop bbq stand on the side of the road, but we were intrigued when we were passing by this past Saturday and saw a bunch of people coming back from what looked like an open field behind the gravel lot, where the Pit Stop and other food stands are located. We found out that Wegmeyer also operates a strawberry patch behind the lot, giving each customer a white pail for strawberry picking. With excitement, we headed into the field and spotted numerous beautiful, deep red strawberries. They're low-lying, so you basically crouch down a little and give a gentle tug from the vine to get a strawberry or two. Now, these strawberries don't exactly come cheap; they're 3.99 per pound. Go more for the experience and the chance to taste some good strawberries. Most of our picks were sweet, a few tart ones. Hubby said they should be sweeter later in the season. Though the prices are slightly on the more expensive end, we'll be back just to enjoy the sun, the beauty of the patch, and the fruits of our labor. Was a disappointment. The prices per pound are higher than other strawberry u-pick in that area ($3.99 vs. $2.59-2.80 per lb). I spoke to them on phone and received the most detailed info about pest control so decided to stick to Wegmeyer Farms. The strawberry bushes are not maintained well: lots of weed, leaves, to much moisture. So as a result is SMALL watery strawberries. Literally a pea size berries. And definitely not the sweetest ones. The patch is small so I have no clue why nobody is investing in decant harvest. read more

When nearby Great Country Farms was picked-over for strawberries, we feared that we had driven 45 minutes in vain. A quick Yelp search revealed Wegmeyer Farms and we got there before they, too, were wiped clean. It's less of a carnival atmosphere than Great Country, but Wegmeyer Farms doesn't have a $10+ *admission fee*. You just pay for what you pick, by the pound. Most importantly, the strawberries are delicious and our toddler had a really great time. read more
