Beware of the Snoody Cougar. People talk up Wegmans quite a bit. They do have a great selection of food, their customer service is superior to any other grocer (in my experience) and I don't feel like I will get any unwanted diseases from their meat. Probably not even any wanted diseases. Nevertheless, there are some downsides. Firstly, the shoppers club is a shitty club to be in. On average, it saves me $1. Granted, I'm not the most savvy shopper, but I think they could do better. Secondly, their prices are fairly outrageous and seem to be rising daily. I think they're even higher at this particular Wegmans because this is a wealthier area. This brings me to my third point. This Wegmans yields a much higher 'snoody cougar' ratio. Don't bump carts with these ladies or they might haul off and give you a dirty look. I'm a poor/lazy cart-ist, so I tend to run into a lot of things. People get really mad in this Wegmans. Wegmans, I love you. You have everything I so desire. The bakery is my favorite. I love sampling their new breads like apricot, blueberry multi-grain bread or spinach olive oil bread. Oh so fluffy. It's great on its own or for sandwiches. The batard bread is also my new #1 for crostinis, garlic bread and the like. Great flavor and always fresh. The selection is primo too... I've never had any issue finding unique cheeses or unusual vegetables. Pittsford Wegs has everything you could imagine, but it might take some time to find it. The place is huge. Truly, I could go on forever. So, I'll keep it concise. I save some major dough purchasing their fabulous selection of organic Wegmans brand goods. I'm always happy with the products and can rarely tell the difference between their version and the (slightly more expensive) brands. I have noticed fewer brand name options available as they expand their Wegmans offerings (salad dressings, for example). Although, I have no cause for complaint because I prefer to buy Wegmans brand. I'm a diehard. A minor setback are the occasional the grumpy or rude customers I run into sometimes, literally. Stop jumping in front of my cart. Conduct aisle browsing like you do driving on the roads of our fair city: with caution. If you can, visit during off times, it makes the experience much more blissful. read more

Before Rochester, I'd never met anyone who loved an entire chain of grocery stores. I'd seen people who are very fond of one, or maybe two individual stores, but never the whole thing. Then I went to a Wegman's, and I kind of got it. Then, I went to the Pittford Wegman's, and I saw the light. I really can't even describe it. From their locally grown veggies, to the largest cheese and olive displays I've ever seen, to, get this, a damn TEA bar. There's a ton of green teas, and a lot of it is also locally made. Eat your heart out Kevin Rose. Even the staff seems to love it here, which is especially odd considering it's a grocery store, and anywhere else they'd be minimum wage monkeys, cheaper to replace than to promote. But Wegmans is also consistently one of the best places to work with benefits, and tuition matching an the like-and it shows. Oh Wegmans, how I love you. Wegmans is the best grocery store in Rochester and Pittsford is really the best location of Wegmans. This store has everything you can imagine and everything you may need in you cooking and food eating endeavors. The only time Wegmans doesn't have something is when they are ran out. This location can get very crowded so I tend to go at about 9:00 PM or later on Saturdays. I love going at that time because there are so few customers and the staff who works those shifts are so consistent that employees can remember who you are. Wegmans has the best staff I have ever met anywhere. My only real complaint with Wegmans is with the baggers. If you bring your own reusable bags they fill them up soooo much that you literally can't lift your bag or it is overflowing. They should be smart enough to ask if we want to have plastic along with our reusable bags if they don't fit in them. Also, if the cashiers are struggling to lift the bags, I am going to stuggle as well. I am not sure who ever thinks it is a good idead to put 5 lbs of pasta with a gallon of milk and 10 lbs of meat (That has happened to me - it was horrible). Then if you use plastic bags they can only put two things in them or they will rip so you end up with 100 bags for the 150 items you purchased. Whenever you encounter a Rochestarian outside of Rochester, ask them about Wegmans. They will lament that their local grocery store is lame and how they long for Wegmans. I thought for a long time they were just reminiscing of home, but no, it is one of the best grocery shopping experiences you will have. This particular Wegmans is complete; lots of variety, fresh foods, stations for sushi, meats, fish and great veggie options. Their customer service is one of the things that puts them over the top. They consistently rank at the top as one of the best employers in the country. They invest in training and opportunity for all. They give in the communities they are in and will only go to areas they can assure local stock (sorry NYC, so far). So what's the big deal? Their customer service was the same as any other moderately priced grocery chain. I've been to several Wegmans over the past 3 months and have had the same experiences. I've had three Wegmans fruit on the bottom yogurt curdle. Gross. Their sushi is better than other grocery store sushi. Compliments to their sushi chefs. The workers at the sushi counter are the nicest in the store. The staff at the cheese counter are not knowledgeable about varieties and pairings. No one ever stopped to ask if they could help. I absolutely love this grocery store. Their produce is so fresh, a wonderful variety, and good prices. They have a wide array of cheeses, breads, desserts and meats, and the people are so friendly. Well, where to start? This place has just about EVERYTHING, but it's so huge, you can't expect to find anything quickly. Still, it's rare to find this much stuff in one supermarket. I could complain about the rude customers, but, hey, this is Rochester-everybody here is rude (and stupid, it seems as well), so I'll not base my ratings on that. What DOES bug me is that, as big as this place is, and as big as the aisles are, you still can't get down a row without there being a bottleneck. Either the management has plopped an entire freakin' pallet of something in the middle of the aisl for sale, or else some damn employee is re-stocking the shelves, completely blocking the row. In fact, that seems to be a problem common with all Wegmans stores-too many employees get in your way! One last quibble, are the helping hand' guys who, it must be said, rarely are helpful. These are the guys who ferry the carts back, usually stopping a line of 50 carts right behind your car just as you are trying to back out. Six years ago, my husband who was my boyfriend back then, handed me a wegmans club card. I didn't know what that meant - because I hadn't heard of and been to Wegmans. I could get lost in here! Everyone I know on the East Coast has raved about Wegmans, so I had to finally pay it a visit. This store is massive! It's not as quaint and warm as Trader Joes, however, I did like that this felt like a one-stop shop. Often I feel like I need to visit four different stores to purchase everything I want: Sprouts for fresh fruit and veg , Vons for national brand items (i.e.: Coke for parties), Trader Joes/Fresh & Easy for my lunch salads and quick and easy dinners, and Whole Foods for those specialty organic items that I couldn't find elsewhere. I feel like Wegmens would eliminate the need to visit four stores, and combines everything I would want into one store. The store is massive, though, and can be overwhelming. It's not the place you go for a quick shopping trip. The products are in a range of prices, but overall it seems to be far more reasonably priced than Whole Foods, for example. I also visited their restaurant attached to the grocery store. The restaurant had a nice ambiance, but the food was only mediocre. It was moderately priced. I've been shopping the Pittsford Wegmans on and off (moved into and out of the area twice ) for over 35 years and find it to be one of the very best grocers in the US. . I don't know who's responsible for hiring the staff at the Pittsford store, but my congratulations to them for finding talented, pleasant, professional people. I don't like grocery shopping, (though who'd guess since I'm at the Pittsford store at least 3 times a week) but your employees make the task a pleasant one. I don't even mind handing over my money to people like Hank at the check out. I am especially fond of your employees in produce, the bakery and the deli. How many businesses can count on the loyalty of their staff like Andy in produce, the remarkable pleasantness and product knowledge of people like Barb, George, Peg, Marilyn, Jean, Marc and others in the bakery, and Sharon, Tony, Rayne, Michele, Megan, Candice and Heather, at the deli? And Smilin, Barbara, Rich and others in the fish department, who are patient, and knowledgeable. (I miss Bernie.) While I don't often take advantage of the Kosher counter, when I do I can be sure that Micah will serve me with his pleasant smile and tremendous aura of grace. I sent a note to the previous Pittsford store manager last March. It was similar to this one in regards to its praise of your employees. I didn't mention how easy it is to shop there, or how much I appreciate the fresh produce and excellent selection of other foods and products. I know most people don't take the time to express their appreciation for your high quality, though I know they think and feel it. I know they haven't written you about the new oven at the Pittsford store and the changes it created. This place is amazing! It has everything like Whole Foods (organic, gluten-free, soy, party supplies, meats, fruits, pies, cakes, desserts of all kinds) except it is in Rochester. Oh and Wegman's arrived on the scene way before Whole Foods. It has fresh food, homemade meals(hot and cold), and delicious vegetarian section(salads, raw vegetables, and olives). There are flavorful options like Chinese and Indian cuisine. I love getting a spoonful of everything and putting into those brown ecofriendly boxes and calling it a day with this meal. Wegs, please come to the UWS. You are one of the few highlights when I come up to visit. This is a fancy supermarket with everything you could want. The prepared foods are surprisingly good (unlike Fairway). My favorite is the hot vegetable bar - sauteed brussel sprouts, grilled portobellos/asparagus - and the seitan from the salad bar is good too. You can also get large delicious subs, fresh breads, and complete meals. My only suggestion would be to get your coffee from B&N. You seriously could not ask for more from a grocery store. This is the flagship store of the best grocery chain, hands-down. The variety of foods of every cuisine and every price range (they have regular bananas for .49 per lb, milk for 1.99 per gallon, yet truffles for 300$ per lb, and a fancy Godiva station when you first walk in). I buy all of my groceries as well as most of my daily needs which are all priced competitively. Toiletries, diapers, sunscreens, champagne glasses, you name it. They have it! New delicious beers that just hit the market? They have it. If you've never visited this location, take your time and enjoy the prepared foods section, especially the bakery! Oh Wegmans how I love thee. I'm sorry that I left you for so many years, but now I'm back and we can continue our love tryst for all to see. I promise to never leave you again for the dingy and disheveled supermarkets in Las Vegas. Calling Wegmans a supermarket doesn't do it justice. Wegmans is more like an experience. From the sandwich shop to the fresh, in house sushi chef, to the craft beer 6-pack selections, this place truly has it all. Hell, did I mention a fromagerie? Seriously, they have one and it is life changing. Throw in food samples that you actually want to try(smoked salmon anyone?) and the emotions just come flowing out when you enter the doors after an extended absence. If you can manage to go here when it isn't insanely busy,(a rarity!) you will likely have a more enjoyable experience. Weekends are a bit of a shit-show here and parking can be a pain. "One of your city's biggest tourist attraction is a grocery store?" Something I'm sure many Rochesterians have heard over the years. It is impossible to put into words why Wegmans is so amazing. Easily the best grocery store around. Trader Joe's is moving in across the plaza, and some of the transplants are excited, but Wegmans is essentially a Trader Joes, a Whole Foods, and a normal grocery store mixed together and made awesome. Produce is always great, meat is always top notch (though if you want rarer non-fish items, Palmer's could be a better choice), organic selection is great, very clear labeling on store brand products for special diets (the store brand is always awesome 99% of the time). Clean, bright, everything you could want from a store. Amazing hot foods section (if a little expensive), but a great quick meal if you ever need one after work (and $6 meals if you want to bring it home to warm it up? Amazing on a budget). But beyond that, Wegmans is the soul of modern (suburban) Rochester (since there is only one left in the actual city, and its certainly not a "bad" part of town). A first job for many, the family is practically Rochester royalty, the loyalty to Wegmans is blind. The best grocery store in the world, I doubt that I'll ever see better. read more

Absolutely love this Wegmans. As a Rochester native, I grew up going to different locations, but coming to this one was always a treat. It's a beautiful store. Everything is great, from the prepared foods section to the produce, to the kitchen merchandise. My only problem is how crowded this place is. On Saturdays and Sunday's it is a nightmare to shop at this location, especially. I know it's not the store's fault and is clearly a sign that they are doing a good business, but be warned! I went on weekends during college because I had no other time, and I found myself getting frustrated by the crowd. I am not kidding, it's almost impossible to push your cart through the huge numbers of people. Avoid this place on weekends, if at all possible. No veering off to ramble on about music, booze, cigs, sex with tall tattooed nymphomaniac woman, or any particular fondness for certain narcotics. It's a dull little report about a food store I visited in upstate NY. What happened is that I stopped in Pittsford, NY to visit a friend on the way up to Toronto. The initial plan that morning was to grab some bikes and ride along the Erie Canal. You see, long ago before mankind learned about the motor, horses were used to pull boats through the canal from this path that was built right next to it. Now that the horses are, you know, dead, they let people bike on that path, and it's a pretty cool thing. "First", he says, "let's stop at Wegmans. You gotta see this place." Ok, I'm the friendly, magnanimous type. "I'll go visit your little wegmans". Wegmans. Wegmans. Sounds so jew-y. (hey, so's my family, so I can say that). I'm just praying they've got Odawalla or maybe some sort of ripe fruit. I'm from the Bay Area and we have access to a wide assortment of great food what with the Rainbow Grocery, the Berkeley Market, the Good Earth in Fairfax, Andronico's et al, whatever that means. We drive up to it and park. All I can say is Godverdomme! In case you're not Dutch - that's what a guy will say in the Netherlands if you accidentally kick him square in the balls. This place is as big as ALL of those stores combined PLUS the Arco Arena. The vegetable department alone is the size of Fremont. They have over a dozen restaurants, three bakeries, a fish farm, a cooking school. They have these junior high kids riding around looking for all the lost aimlessly wandering old people to go-cart them back to the safer areas. I'm way deep in the lettuce aisle, eyeing in disbelief the 270 or so varieties of lettuce, and I see that right next to them are truffles - at $999/lb. That's not a misprint or an exaggeration to try to be the one funny guy on Yelp, but they're really priced at Nine Hundred Ninety Nine Dollars per pound. You'd typically buy an item like that at a specialty truffle store, I'd assume, with a guest book maybe and chablis and soothing chamber music while you sniff and fondle the various truffle torsos. But this Wegmans has them sitting out there like taco chips at El Faralito. I felt so small town. So I'm giving this place 4 big stars for being, hands-down, the most awe-inspiring provider of human chow I've ever seen, and also for their innovative, though failed, approach at attempting to suck extra Franklins out of my wallet. I was easily going to lay down all 5 stars, btw, but when I asked the food representative salesman truffle expert dude to cut me a break and let me get 5 lbs for $4500, he hit me with a totally boring, you're-annoying-me, end-of-conversation "no". The "Whole Foods" of conventional grocery stores - but better! Satisfies the foodie and the average joe. Where else can you get your grocery on and then ride a train out to your car?!? I feel like a kid at the zoo riding the little choo-choo. Puts other grocery stores to shame. There is a reason this is the "Mega-Weg". It's not a store, it's an experience. You could live here, take a date here (yes, there is a full-on restaurant, an espresso bar, sandwich shop, pizza, shall I keep going?), party all night long here! Heck, they're open 24/7. "Grocery shopping" on the next level - everything is a step above - from the floral arrangements, the "seafood bar", service - employees are helpful, knowledgable AND friendly! The patisserie - OMG - I know why they put glass around the pastries - to keep me from drooling on them! Heaps of organic produce/natural foods and international items. Kosher deli? Yep. The prepared foods are so delicious you may never need to cook again. And did I mention it's affordable? Gosh, how they do it, I have no idea, but Wegman's has got the best prices in town and the best quality. Why go elsewhere? Yup, it's JUST a grocery store - still has that hometown feel you can go in for milk and eggs (if that's all you buy, you're lucky - or stupid) but at the same time it's the mecca grocery store. read more

The most amazing grocery store you'll ever find. My favorite sections are the fromagerie and bakery. Grab some of their Rosemary and Olive Oil bread, usually still warm! I tend to frequent the East Ave. store but will hit up the Pittsford location on occasion for the variety, atmosphere, and oodles of free samples (best during prime lunch and dinner time, though crowded). Don't be afraid to ask the staff questions. They've taught me how to prepare fish, which wine to pair with the cheese I bought, and where to buy products I couldn't find there. read more

Whether you're here for low-priced groceries with fast check-out service or to sit down for some prepared food, Pittsford Wegmans is legitimately one of the hottest places to visit in Rochester. Traditionally, you would see a bunch of limos outside of Wegmans after Prom Night, because it was seriously the best hangout spot ever! I used to have the most perfect, efficient, lovely shopping experiences here. I didn't know how good I had it until I left Rochester for CA... And now I miss Wegmans so... I chose to go to this Wegmans for the fact that it is the HQ Wegmans, the nicest one in all of Rochester. I used to log in to their website, choose this Wegmans location, and enter all the items for my shopping list. Their website would then tell me what aisle to go to for each item, and list the items in order of their location for me to print out. Holy crap, I got used to that! Now when I go to a supermarket, it's either Ralph's or Whole Foods and both are miserable. Wegmans spoiled me with a bakery manned by real bakers, with a diverse selection of artisanal bread made from few ingredients (and those ingredients are listed on the package). No preservatives here. All I had to do was walk up to the appropriate basket of bread and grab my French peasant bread (squish it to check the freshness of it and smell it just because)... If I wanted it for sandwiches, I just passed it back to the baker and voila, freshly sliced, fresh French peasant bread! Then there's the real seafood and meat butchers that have more to offer than what's behind the glass. Got a special request? They'll take it. (Not to mention that Wegmans has the #1 spot on the list of sustainable seafood purveyors by Greenpeace.) The seafood counter also has a restaurant just a few steps away. They'll cook a wide variety of fish for you to consume, served with a side of veggies of the day. You're NOT ALLOWED TO TIP at this restaurant. A Kosher deli with many delicious items is across the way, and next to it a non-Kosher deli with the largest selection ever. I could have sworn I saw at least 3 or 4 brands of jamón ibérico... Spanish ham! Incredibly expensive at more than $150/lb, but at least they had it! It gave this location ham cred, for sure. Their cheese selection was also surprisingly perfect. It almost reminded me of Cowgirl Creamery, how they're more than willing to provide samples of even the most expensive cheeses behind the glass. Huge selection and very knowledgeable, professional staff. Their produce selection was like a giant fruit and veggie ball... Imagine a ballroom filled with local, organic, and conventionally grown produce. That's Wegmans. Huge selection and the signs were the most helpful signs I had ever seen. Each produce sign has the price and name, like everywhere else, plus a description of the flavor or cooking use for the thing. This was so helpful, especially when combing through the many variations of potatoes, onions, or apples for the perfect type! They also provided the PLU # so you could weigh your own produce and print out a label with a price. This made checkout super fast and budgeting super easy. Their organic shelf item section was also huge! It included a refrigerated section, too, which made grabbing the special stuff a breeze. When I needed a prescription filled, I brought it to the Pharmacy first thing, received a buzzer, and was notified when my prescription was ready. One time, my buzzer never buzzed, so I went back to the Pharmacy and asked about it. They apologized and gave me a $5 coupon. My prescription payment was $1, so I wound up with $4 off my grocery purchase that day! Checkout was always fast, with tons and tons of lanes open. Did I mention that Wegmans is open 24 hrs? Amazing! I miss you, Wegmans! Please extend your empire to Southern California! ****EDIT**** How could I have forgotten?
