Who gives away dry-aged steak as a free sample? This place. Which is also known as The Best Grocery Store in the History of the World. Apparently this is the "flagship" store of the Wegman's empire. I believe it. My girlfriend claims they have valet parking. I forgot to look, but I believe that too. Why not, they have everything else. No, seriously, they actually have EVERYTHING. I found myself getting angry as I walked around, because not only do they have everything, but it's all so much cheaper here than it is at the sad places I shop. First of all, you can get any kind of food you ever wanted here. It's like a delicious, international buffet, just waiting for you. There's an Asian Wokery, an Indian bar, you can build your own burrito, there's soups, pizza, wings, dumplings...I want it all. But the real savings is on the groceries. That strip steak that they were giving away? It's $9.49/pound. That's STILL giving it away! When I worked in Pittsford, several years ago, I visited this particular Wegmans on a daily basis for lunch. It was then that I began to appreciate the differences available in this flagship store that are not found in other Wegmans stores throughout the country. Pittsford Wegmans is cool because it has it all... Pretty much anything that you could want or need in a grocery store. The bakery, food bar restaurant, self serve food and pretty much every other section of the grocery store is enhanced in some way. Presentation is everything and Wegmans has mastered their technique. If I had to note areas for improvement. This store needs to be physically expanded. It is too small for the number of patrons and the parking lot is always packed. Also cars are often parked to the back of the lot. Parking is a nightmare. When in the area, I almost always make a point to stop by and pick up a few items. read more

The best grocery store in the country, hands down. I know they're expanding, but this particular store has a special place in my heart. In some ways, I don't think it's as good as it was in the past. At the peak of business here, there was a bar where they served you fresh seafood combos for $15. The pastry section had ornate freshly made chocolate cakes, tarts, and truffles that rival the best bakeries in the country. It's one of the few stores where when I buy the "generic store-branded" version of a product, I know it's likely not only to be cheaper than trade names, but also better. How many stores can you say that for? Not Whole Foods. What sets this place apart though is the service. The staff are so well-trained it's incredible. They strike the perfect balance of being helpful and being annoying. Everyone's put together. People genuinely want to work here because they have great benefits and are treated well. I miss the restaurant they used to have here: "tasting" which now is Burger Bar. In all honesty, I wasn't sure that a small town like Pittsford could keep an upscale restaurant like that going, and I guess I was right. Hint: they make some of the best subs in the State. Also, their steaks and pork chops are second to none. You won't find better meat anywhere to grill or cook. It's also open 24 hours, which is the best time to visit their pre-prepared food section. It's the first thing college kids miss when moving out of state (above their parents, friends, and dogs), and many people would identify this store when asked their favorite restaurant in the Rochester area. Wegmans has gone considerably downhill in the past couple of years, so much so that my frequency in visiting it has dropped probably to at least 2/3rds if not 1/2 of what it used to be. And I'm not just talking about the Pittsford Wegmans - I'm talking about the overarching grand amassing of stores in the entire upstate NY area. The thing that drives me the most crazy is that the more often I seem to go, the less non-Wegmans products I see on the shelves. Yes, it's great that they're pushing their own name brand, but as a result they're taking down more and more of other products that I've loved over the years that suddenly seem to cease from existence without any notice. I've even put in claims at the Customer Service counters before, and they tell me "the product is discontinued." But let me ask you this - if the product is discontinued, why can I still find it at other supermarkets? Why can I still find it online? It seems like that's just their default excuse to get you to mosey along which is a darn shame knowing that "the best supermarket in America" is lying to your face. On top of that, it seems like there's never any employees in the aisles to help out and the ones that are at the cashier look more like zombies just waiting for their shifts to end. I understand that's the kind of job a cashier can be sometimes, but when you're plagued with that on every visit, it dampens a shopper's experience. So I don't really know what else to say - their prices are definitely NOT the best in town, the staff comes off as dead (or are simply not there while you're shopping), and they continue to push out the good and replace it with their inferior name-branded products. LOVE THIS WEGMANS! It is clean and very well rounded in what they sell. They have a huge food court area and their bakery section is amazing! Their food court has a buffet section and a fresh sub section too. Did I mention lots of sushi options and already prepared meals options. This market sells everything you can possibily imagine. They even sell international candies that I can never get from other markets, like UK chocolate! Pricing here is decent, but you can get all your goceries in one go and meals to go too. I recently visited Rochester, NY and absolutely fell in *love* with Wegman's. I have to say, I could brave the cold and live in Rochester just so I could visit this grocery store every single weekend. Their hot bar is amaziiiiiing (Indian, Asian, American, etc.) and they even have a sugar-free Irish Cream syrup at their coffee bar (take that, Starbucks!). I was able to find all of my vegetarian favorites throughout the store, with the exception of flaxseed peanut butter (which I can only find in Whole Foods or Trader Joe's). In sum, I would gladly trade in Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and my right hand for a Wegman's grocery store here in LA. Five stars all the way! read more

So much to see, so little time, and so little space in my stomach. I'm pretty sure I could have spent an hour, easy, checking out the entire place. My bf was amused at how entertained I was looking at everything. Here's a random rundown of my thoughts: Fresh seafood. Look at the color of that wild salmon! Sushi looks legit. Cheese aged in their own man-made caves? Wtf? Delicious. Prepared foods look amazing. Too many choices. Overwhelmed. There's a cookie bar?! Better believe we made two trips during our weekend trip JUST to the cookie bar. Made-to-order fish tacos? OMG. Best fish tacos I've had and I'm from California. Fruit-flavored carbonated water is legit. Lemonade is legit. Wegmans brand scoop-shaped tortilla chips are better than Tostitos. There's a restaurant attached to this place?! Beer selection is like a mini liquor store. GREAT customer service. Oh, there's a lady whose job it is JUST to tell us about the new healthy veggie section in the prepared Chinese food section? Several years ago, I started going to Wegmans as a slightly upscale grocery store. It was nice, a treat. There was a great selection of everything! Then things started to slip. The dairy section started having sporadic shortages. That became the norm. Now Wegmans house brands have really pushed out competing brands of most products in the store. National brands of things are put on bottoms shelves. You have to get on your knees to find them, if they are there at all. I totally and completely get the obsession with Wegmans now. It's like if Costco and Trader Joe's had a baby that was even more affordable, fresh, and varied. First off, this place is HUGE. So many different sections and so much to choose from. It's big enough that they even have a bathroom because let's be real, you're gonna be spending some time in this place just exploring all that it has to offer. I had their Cobb salad on my train ride back and it was excellent - really flavorful, lots of blue cheese to keep me happy, and incredibly filling for SIX BUCKS. They also had a stunning selection of snack foods, which was both a blessing and a curse because I bought a lot of snacks for my trip home, but after munching happily on sweet potato chips and dark chocolate + peppermint pretzel crisps, I have swallowed all of my complaints. I've lived in Pittsford my entire life and have watched this Wegmans go from great to better to spectacular, I mean it's such an incredible place...an experience! I always bring my out-of-town friends. It never stops improving, from their daily lunch station, Mac and cheese bar, updated pastry shoppe, espresso and coffee bar (which tastes twice as good as Starbucks in my opinion) and more, I am always in heaven when I go! Best subs around, the bread is the best! Not only is it spectacular, the people working there absolutely love it and are incredibly kind. I happen to not like the nori (seaweed) that the sushi is commonly wrapped in, so I get mine made fresh and every single time the people working there are MORE than happy to do it for me. I have always been one of Wegmans biggest fans. The last year or so it has just gone down hill. All the produce goes bad way too quickly if it's even still good when you get home. And I was always fine with everything there just being slightly more expensive than it needed to be because I like the staff and the clean environment along with being able to get everything at one place. Now that we have started to go to Palmer's, Laurie's, Trader Joe's I'm saving money and getting better products. ​Wegmans branch in 745 Calkins Rd, Rochester, NY 14623 is extremely awkward and embarrassing branch. Yesterday I went to the stores late in the night as I used to do. They know me very well (at least through their security camera system). On my way out, their manager was staring at me from afar while talking over the phone ( she was very unprofessional). A few minutes later, I found when I was in the parking lot that she called 911 complaining that I spent a long time wandering inside the store (alleging that the customers initiated this concern!!... No comment). I had been visiting and buying from the store for almost 10 years, and they do NOT like to see a priest inside the store. The police officer came and had nothing to say especially he found nothing suspicious and I showed him the purchase receipt. This is not the first time to been treated badly there. This branch has very poor managerial skills. I did not escalate the case yesterday because I found the call to 911 was initially a childish action not worth wasting time to claim against. Putting in this review makes me sad because I hate to see great things go bad. Wegmans in Pittsford has always been an experience. Coming in on the weekend into the Market Cafe used to be a great experience with everyone shopping for unique artisanal items fresh and tasty and diverse. Today's Wegmans is a far cry from the nice little touches that made it special over the years, especially this flagship location. It was small changes at first. The Caesar chicken baguette being discontinued was the first deep cut... No more lamb vindaloo in the Indian section. Then no shrimp and finally no Indian food at all. The salad bars first casualty were the fresh made dressings like the Yogurt Curry and eventually it ended up with other bottled dressings and now just vats of ranch, Russian and other basics like a high school cafeteria. Salads like kale salad and other high end options are now also gone replaced with what looks like the salad bags were popped open and thrown in place. Fresh Italian food was replaced with aging over dry pizza and pasta. The Mac and cheese bars disappeared and dishes like the braided pot roast with carrots became a distance memory, eschewed for old looking sesame chicken and greasy noodles like you'd find at a $3 Chinese buffet special in Queens. Valentine's Day which uses to be an occasion with ice swans and roses and other decorations were absent this year completely. The tea bar disappeared long ago with asian grocery items that are double the price of any asian grocery. Fruit goes bad in days now as if they are on the end of their freshness cycle and for some reason, a full size cheese danish is nowhere to be found. Wegmans, Trader Joe's is here and Whole Foods is around the corner. Up your game unless you're looking to just be another TOPs or Price Chopper. Just having a bin of $100 an oz truffles doesn't make you high end. Those of us who have shopped at Central Market and other such groceries know when quality is on the decline and it's sad to see. There is a hype building around Wegmans that's gaining momentum slowly but surely. My first experience at a Wegmans was in Cherry Hill, NJ, where cars were lined up around the block just for a taste. I wondered what could be so great about it for a second, and after entering, I quickly understood why. The sheer variety and quality of everything was pretty unmatchable, and the fact that you don't have to buy everything quite in bulk is a pretty amazing. I absolutely love Costco, but sometimes you don't need 50 lbs of chicken. Or maybe you do. Who knows? Anyways, after hearing about how amazing the flagship Pittsford Wegmans was, we decided to give it a shot. They have just about everything here, from a fantastic, cheap, prepared food section, a beer emporium where you can build your your own six-pack, and just rows and rows of the typical grocery and frozen foods sections. There's a large toy train that runs around the ceiling of the beer emporium, which makes it seem like a magical wonderland. It's just quite a sight to be seen. Everyone at the prepared foods stands are just really friendly and are more than happy to hand out samples, which is unbelievable. And the prices! The prices are just so darn competitive for produce and sandwiches, and meats and cheese, and just everything. I think it stems from how Wegmans treats its employees, and the time they put into their quality workforce. Not to mention, that they own most of their own supply chain, which helps with the pricing. I just really love this Wegmans. It's so giant and seems to have a huge variety of almost anything you can think of. I especially appreciate the "specialty" foods, like their Paleo selection. I've also found I can find most things here that other stores may not consistently carry. It's the biggest one in the area, parking lot is a mad house as can be expected, but this Wegmans has it all, including an enormous, incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff. When I first met my boyfriend, every now and then he would make comments, deriding our local Albertson's, lamenting how much he misses Wegman's from "Home". Given, our local Albertson's DOES suck some serious ass, but I always wondered how fantastic a grocery store could possibly be. Albertson's, in general, had always been good enough for me. Well, ladies & gentleman, now I know. Wegman's is as good as it gets. This store is a foodie's dream come true. Their prepared food section is endless and EVERYTHING looks delicious, they have a giant bulk candy section, and organic/health food section that I haven't seen any chain store out West hold a candle to. This is my mecca. Somewhere between the gluttonous chef and the girl afraid of brownies because they'll go RIGHT to her hips is where you'll find me. And I never knew paradise would be so inexpensive. (You can't forget that they have the most helpful, happiest employees around. I understand that we are going grenergy by reducing the plastic bags. However, I am a type 1 diabetic and my blood sugar was dripping significantly. To the point where I was vIsibly sweating. I had asked for more plastic bags as mine were in my car (time will help me remember) however the young attendants were told to only have one set of plastic bags in the area for 4. Again I understand we are trying to go green but I needed to get to my car ASAP to get glucose. Everything my heart desires. I'm originally from VA and we don't have a store quite like this, so I've become spoiled and am unable to live anywhere that a Wegmans doesn't exist. It angers me on a primal level that we don't have Wegmans in Chicago. By nature I am a big fan of grocery shopping. Which is ironic because my culinary skills are rather sub par. Regardless, Wegmans is an entire grocery shopping experience that I think is tough to beat, particularly at this location. It's the offspring of one of the larger Whole Foods and Trader Joe's...it's big enough to get lost in, and has interesting things around every corner (tea bar!), has a fantastic selection of...everything...yet you won't go broke shopping here. Sorry, Pittsford Wegmans lovers. 5 stars for selection and variety, 1 star for overall feelings about myself, the world, life and humanity as am I'm shopping and when I leave this place. I generally try to avoid the Pittsford Wegmans because it's always crowded, the selection is overwhelming, and I inevitably run into people I work with and have to smile, wave and feign delighted surprise at this lovely coincidence! But with the closing of the East Ave wegs and some time to myself on a Saturday morning, I did what I stupidly do every 8-10 months or so: I gave it another attempt. Everyone here is either unashamedly aggressive or hopelessly lost. Those happy souls that are a dangerous combination of the two drive me absolutely crazy. Bumping into me without an "excuse me" followed by obstructing my path and coming to a grinding halt while you look cluelessly around is NOT COOL. Besides the shoppers, the selection is amazing for sure, but probably way over-the-top for the size of the place. Who needs ancient grains and cave-aged gruyere? And does it really matter that some grandmother in a tiny factory in Sicily ground the organic grains in my $7 loaf of bread? While it's commendable that these things are available, part of the reason that "special" and "organic" and "hand made" products are nice are because they're sold by small independent stores and have families and individuals invested in the business. When artisan products become mass-produced by a corporation, it loses its magic. I just want veggies, milk, eggs, cheese, some fish, aluminum foil, saran wrap and marinara. But I'm so emotionally drained after combing the aisles and bumping carts with cougar suburbanites that I can't even remember what was on my shopping list anymore and suddenly I've got $100 worth of a handful of premier products in my cart. Dear Danny, I still love Wegmans but what the heck is with doing away with all the name brand foods in favor of all the Wegmans brand stuff? You walk down an aisle and there's five hundred Wegmans brand items and only a handful of name brand versions. Hells Bells Hegedorns has more variety than Wegmans does on most stuff So have to say that I've been in Hegedorns a heck of a lot more than Wegmans lately. read more

The benchmark against which all other supermarkets should be judged. Pittsford Wegmans is probably our number one out-of-town tourist attraction. And for good reason, as it is a delight for all of the senses. Once again, for perhaps the 600 time, I had lunch at the Wegmans buffet. A dizzyingly large selection of food in every genre and with mind-blowing variety. I always opt for something healthy, so I had some king salmon, some ginger carrots, some stirfried broccoli, and of course to keep things in balance, I had a chicken wing (there were six choices of different styles), and a little taste of macaroni and cheese. So, I'm a fan of Wegmans. I've been a fan of Wegmans since I lived in Virginia, and I was lucky enough to live next to the Lake Manassas location. One of the things I was happiest about when I moved to Western NY was the fact that I would still have Wegmans around to shop at. Even Lee is a devotee of Wegmans! So is my mom, and she is jealous every time she comes to visit me on the East Coast. I am usually hesitant to make brand comparisons on Yelp, but Wegmans easily blows Whole Foods out of the water. Anyway. As true devotees of Wegmans, when we were recently in the Rochester area, we of course had to make a stop and visit THE MOTHER SHIP. And man, this place is really gigantic! We happened to stop by on New Year's Eve (probably a mistake, but whatever,) and there was so much traffic getting into and out of the parking lot that they had local deputies directing traffic in the area. The parking wasn't so bad though, because the parking lot is enormous. As I said earlier, the store is gigantic, partially because the HQ offices are attached to the back of the building. So inside we went, and it was a chaotic madhouse, but not really in a bad way. There were tons of people there, but there was also tons of employees. I am not sure if this is just normal for a holiday, but if you needed help, you were getting it. So yeah, if you've been in a Wegmans, you know the deal. This place is just more of all of that. Gigantic produce area. Great beer section that highlights local products (in fact, you can find that throughout the store, they're always highlighting local WNY products and companies. The Market was just enormous. I was jealous, they have about twice as many stations as they do at my local Wegmans. :( Checkout is fast and easy, just like any other Wegmans. So overall, if you love Wegmans and you want to see their special giant store, come by and check it out! read more

I had a dream of the perfect grocery store/supermarket. It was clean. It was bright. The produce was impeccable and fresh. A tea bar? Ok I don't dream of this sh-t. I am still in shock. Colorful layout/lineup of goods. The staff was friendly. The checkout queues were non existent. I wanted to stay here and get lost traveling down the aisles. Holy crap, I'm not dreaming. There is something about this place that really impresses me. I can't look at supermarkets the same ever again. This place is like a H-Mart (unfortunately the best I've been to: Shoprite, A&P, Stop N Shop, Pathmark, Waldbaums all shrivel in comparison) on 'roids minus Korean products and the crowds.
