Oh my goodness! I'm from Alabama, and we do not have Wegmans, so it's safe to say this visit blew my mind. We started by ordering coffee drinks before exploring. I got something frozen with caramel and coconut and tried to imprint the ingredients on my brain so I could try to replicated it at Starbucks when I got home. That frappe disappeared in about 5 minutes. Next, we explored the hot bar. It was similar to Whole Foods with its variety which included a few international cuisines. There were also a bunch of "half-prepped" items in the refrigerated section that would have made quick and delicious dinners to take home and throw in the oven for a few minutes. Additionally, there was an olive bar (yes, you read that right--olives!) tucked away by the cheese section. We really enjoyed everything we ate. Sure wish we had one of these at home. :) read more

Wegmans of East Ave... I really hate your parking lot. Who designed that? I do love the new face lift, but I really hoped they would fix some of the big problems of the original. Variety and space. Wegmans isn't my favorite grocery store because the prices are relatively higher than other stores and now they moving to only sell their products. And some of those items I don't like. However, I do like their personally made things; cheese dip, donuts, subs. So I will adventure into here on occasion for one of those items. This Wegmans in particular was our stop before going to the in-laws house. For some reason they never get everything they need and call us to stop on our way over. This store always seems over crowded with people. I also feel like I escape death at least three times in the parking lot because it is so chaotic and crowded. I shop here regularly for all my grocery needs. They usually have what I need, however the deli counter is pretty hit or miss in terms of thinly sliced meats. Namely ham and roast beef. Since the renovation its a lot better but the aisles are still pretty difficult to navigate (size wise). Parking is just a straight embarrassment. They have tried to mediate the situation, but it has not done much to help. Avoid Sundays and mondays like the plague if you can help it. Additionally, we have been waiting two months for Ben and Jerry's Cinnamon Bun ice cream to hit the shelves but we have had to settle for milk and cookies for about the last eight weeks. Wegmans does a great job usually. The recent customer mask mandate is where they are dropping the ball. I spoke with the store front manager today regarding the newly imposed mandate that all customers wear a mask to enter the store. I brought it to his attention that I noticed several customers not wearing masks and one Individual not wearing a mask while at the sun station was coughing while not even covering his mouth. I was told that they are trying their best. Well they have the ability to once again exceed customer expectations by enforcing the mandate. I am immune compromised and my shopping decisions are based upon safety currently. It was explained time that if they try to enforce the policy they decided to put into place would put their security staff in danger??? Policies are to be enforced. Otherwise this entire "let's keep of employees and customers safe policy" is nothing more than a sad PR STUNT. On numerous occasions I have found rotted & moldy produce on display. When I've told employees they seem indifferent. Had dinner at the cafe tonight & had tamales from the Mexican bar. Weren't cooked throughout - the masa was like eating paste instead of being firm. No scoop/spoon for 1 of the food items and an employee was looking right at it. Store is cramped as is the parking lot. It's like taking your life in your hands! I live& die by wegmans but I hate this location. I usually would not take the time to write a review on a grocery chain but I have to make an exception for this chain. I have lived in many parts of the country and can honestly say that nothing beats a Wegmans Super Store. Growing up in Rochester I did not appreciate the value and diversity of products and service you get from the chain until I left. Years later I moved to NJ and was pleasantly surprised to see it spread there. The only question I have is when are you coming down south? I am so happy to not have to go to Tops or Pittsford Wegmans any more. However, I am not very thrilled about the new Wegmans. I wish they had allocated more room for produce and less room for all the prepared foods. The parking lot is a nightmare - potentially more so than it was before. I have noticed that they have started to put employees in the middle of the road in the parking lot to direct you as to which side to park on. There are still cops stationed at the entrances to the parking lot but I am not sure why. I made the mistake of going on a Sunday and had to deal with people texting while blocking off the produce aisles with their carts. It made me wish the aisles were slightly wider so 2 carts could co-exist side by side. It also made me wish people weren't such inconsiderate fools. I do like that the coffee bar (Buzz) is located right near the entrance and donuts are located right past Buzz. This made it easy for me to pick up coffee for myself and donuts for the office without having to compete with the serious grocery shoppers. As long as I do my shopping after 8pm on weeknights, I think this Wegmans and I will get along just fine. read more

Yes the parking lot is small, and slow to travel through - but in the end I'm always able to park my car within a minute or 2, always pretty close. People seem to loathe this parking as if it's laced with police-grade spike strips and IED's - I assure you, there's nothing to be afraid of. You pull in, park your car, and walk in. The building is sandwiched between 3 VERY busy city streets, surrounded by a huge city population; of course it's going to be busy and packed all hours of the day. It's small and cramped inside. It's a small plot of land they had to build on. It's really not that bad if you have even the smallest amount of patience. It's a clean, well laid out building, with a large selection. I love Wegmans, and the location of East Ave Wegs is very convenient, but I dread having to come here with every fiber of my being. The parking situation gets me all anxious that someone is just going to come t-bone me at any second. The aisles are nightmare inducing for those who are claustrophobic, and when you have a bunch of people pushing carts, it is basically the same situation as the parking lot inside the store. Instead of building Amore, they should have just made their store bigger. I like the products, and the service is always great, but the layout makes me drive to Mt. This is the Wegmans that is closest to my house. I still avoid it. The parking situation is bad when it's not too busy, downright impossible when is rush hour. Inside, they have a lot of stuff, closer to Pittsford Wegmans, but somehow it feels overly stocked. Like the items are closing in on you, and that claustrophobic feeling doesn't make for a pleasant shopping experience. They had additional space though, that they decided to turn into a below average Italian restaurant, because Rochester needs more Italian restaurants. They did a major overhaul on it and it looks awfully pretty when you enter- until you try to shop. Then you're entering into this stupid labyrinth of tight aisles and tall shelves. I am not a fan of this location. I feel like the rebuild was a complete waste of time. This location still doesn't have a variety of anything and pretty much only carries what they make. The aisles are still so small you can't fit more than one cart down it. Everyone is always cramming into corners to try and let someone else pass. They don't carry a large amount of items which is what bothers me the most. My mousse isn't really that rare and unpopular that it can't be carried and everyone loves valassic pickles so why is they are hardly around. They also don't carry their own lite bread. Unless I need to quickly get something which they probably won't have so I am wasting my time or getting prescriptions I don't normally come to this location. I will go to a bigger one. read more

I am a native western New Yorker that moved happily to New England many years ago. While I do miss my family greatly, if someone mentions Wegmans... I do have a mournful swoon in my heart. Melodramatic, yes.... but damn if it isn't true. Visited this one on a trip home a few weeks ago, and my partner who usually makes fun of my Wegmans obsession, admitted to me that I was right all along. I almost made him say it again on tape. The good: It's a nice new store, well lit and clean. Quality at Wegman's is always good and the produce is good. There are a lot of good choices here. They have a natures market place, which I like. The meat and baked goods area is nice and the selection is good. There is a lot of prepared food and now a lot more merchandise. Their card aisle is ridiculously comprehensive and cheery, well lit. They have the uppity cheese area, two red-boxes, yoga mats, a pharmacy, nice bathrooms (no diapers like the suburban ones - maybe in the family bathroom). There is an international area, with a reasonable variety of things to choose from. I like that the store is not a Meg-mans - it's medium sized and not an absurd hike like some of the other stores (but nowhere near as easy as the old store). There is a large beer area, strategically located at the end of the chips and candy aisle, all the way at the back of the store - hmmmm.... They also have a cafe, pizza slices and lots and lots of buffet food (albeit $9 per lb, nothing I care to afford). In short - it's a nice store with all of what you need plus a little more. The bad: - The parking lot is a mess. What a pain - yes, we are all learning it, but it seems silly, especially those goofy curves right as you pull in - who designs that stuff anyway? There are only 2 entrances now (the old had 4) which I'm sure is nice for the people on the now one way street across from the store. Employees get to park underground - that's cool for them - they deserve a nice place to park. - No bulk. Bummer, big bummer - there is however lots of merchandise and stuff that in my estimation has no business being in a grocery store (for me). No bulk - boo. - The selection, while good somehow lacks the variety of other stores and maybe even the old store. Many of the items from the old store did not return (staples like cheese pizzas, pita chips, etc.) - nothing exotic. It just seems like everywhere I look it's Wegman's brand products (pretty good) just everywhere. It's just annoying because their stuff often does not match up to the "real" brands, sometimes it does - it supplants superior stuff too often (example - terrible coffee - there are already 5 or so terrible coffee vendors doing terrible coffee, Wegmans too) . It just seems like twice the space with double the quantity with 15% less variety. - There is an overabundance of luxury foods - lots and lots of excessively priced pre-cut, pre-made, high-end hoo-hah - $4 Double Espresso - puhleeze - if you want a really good shot, just go down to Joe Bean's on University between Winton & Culver - They also are opening an Italian restaurant when there is one within 500 feet down the street (come on guys) Summary: It's tough to please everyone, especially me who thought that the old store was just fine and the last "old" grocery store left - I shopped there for 40+ years (i sound like a geezer - I'm still in my 40s - hehe). The new store makes me realize that I just don't like Wegman's that much anymore (and no, I"m not a basher - Wegman's does a lot for the Rochester area, other than actually put stores within city limits, this being the exception - any others?). My basic feeling is that they are not looking out for me too much, but just for their business. Unfortunately, it makes me want to take my business elsewhere. During the build "blackout", I discovered that Trader Joe's has a lot of nice things packed into a small store and good value on things like almonds, dried fruit and produce. I went to Price Rite on University and will still go there. I also stopped in at the Winton Tops a little more, which has comparable prices, but not all the prepared food, so they seem less like a trip to disneyland (they also can't check out a customer in any reasonable time - zzzzz). I also hit the public market every week and enjoyed it, as well as got some good deals. In short, this new store is good and does the trick, but I refuse to drive to another Wegman's for those "missing" items we used to have at the East Ave. store and will go to the other places to keep the costs from getting out of whack. 9-27-2013 they got a bulk area now. Basing this on my one trip since re-opening: Parking: Yes, still a problem. I went later on (after 8pm), busy but I still got a spot pretty quick. But, this is an inherent constraint of the location. If you want a good spot, go on off hours. Layout: I liked it, found everything just fine, wider aisles are a big plus. Content: Some great new adds, and I love that I don't have to drive out to Pittsford for the Indian food bar! Some reviewers lament all the space dedicated to the pre-made food options, but I think this location caters to those customers who appreciate this(busy professionals, stopping on way home to grab quick dinner a/k/a ME)! Restaurant: I didn't even know there was going to be an Italian restaurant until I saw the other reviews (not so attentive I guess). There are already a number of good Ital options in town and it's not my fav food genre, so I could live w/o that, especially if it meant more space could have been dedicated to parking or other store dept's. Biggest win: No more shopping at Winton Rd. Tops!! Overall, it's not perfect, but the location is very tough to work with. WOW!!!! Stopped by the local Wegmans and saw that they offered smoothies. Mango, Peach, Strawberry, Banana, etc....... LOL! I'm liking the new East Avenue Wegmans, but it's not all that I want it to be. The addition of the market cafe, larger cheese shop, bakery, and beer section are keeping me quite happy. Also just a wider selection of product, more space, and the store is beautiful. What I'm missing are a bulk foods section and larger organic grocery section/selection. I use the bulk foods a lot at the Pittsford Wegmans because I normally only need a small amount of food since I'm just shopping for myself. They do have a nature's marketplace but it's quite lacking. Two reasons I may still go to the Pittsford Wegmans on occasion. I also don't like the size of the grocery aisles. They're tall and narrow, making me feel claustrophobic. It's just difficult to navigate. Overall it is a big upgrade from the old store but with all the hype I figured it would be all that I wanted and more. In reality, it's not quite all that I want. That said, I love Wegmans and this store is still better than any other grocery I've been to. It's still a great shopping experience and I find myself there a few times a week. read more

Wegmans is a necessary evil here in Rochester. But they are having some growing pains with this one. The parking lot is crowded, very crowded and on Sunday they were out on East Ave. directing traffic. I know that this corporation spends a lot of time on design, but they simply haven't got the parking flow down and I don't know if they'll ever find an easy solution to it. Because of the newness and the cachet of the store, it's likely to persist for some time. It will be interesting to see what happens when they open their Italian restaurant here. Maurice's comments below (5/24) are spot on. Allow an extra 15 minutes to your shopping time just to park. Next time, I'll drive out to Penfield. If I was rating just this particular store on the parking and access to the store alone, they'd get a 2. The only reason they get a 3 here is to keep other Yelpers off my back as youdon't complain about Wegmans in Rochester. If it was just Wegmans in general, I'd give them 5 stars though I loathe the fact they carry so much of their own brands to the exclusions of others. But when it comes to selections for produce and seafood, they are the only game in town for a major grocery store. I occasionally go to Tops to avoid the lines but the experience of shopping at Wegmans is not to be beat (except by maybe Trader Joes's). I work for Instacart and this store never has the items customers request. This causes them to manipulate the app and message the shopper/driver and make a 1 hour run to a 2 and a half hour run. This one customer who lives at 33 south union st in Rochester NY lied and said I didn't deliver his order and Instacart deactivated my account. I was on a 2 order batch they were my first run and the second run got there order no problem. The cashier don't follow instructions well. Don't go to East ave Wegmans unless you want to get confused and upset God. Just don't go there. read more

I shop here often, but today was the first time I ate at their food bars. Chicken strips were dry, potato wedges were bland and over cooked. The salad bar was absolutely atrocious. So for groceries, yes. Shop here. For food that is ready to eat, definitely go elsewhere. read more

You can't beat Wegmans when it comes to product quality. But then again, there might other establishments that I might not have gone to yet. The price is decent for the quality of products they are providing. Sign up for the Shoppers Club card, its saves you money. If you forget your card, you can always ask other shoppers behind you in line to use theirs. I've never had anyone say no. Or sometimes the cashier will have one. Or if you know someone phone number that have the card, you can just punch in their phone number. The rotisserie chicken is the deal! For you penny-pincher, you can make that into couple meals. This Wegmans is MY Wegmans. I was convinced that the Pittsford Wegmans was going to be the one that I would prefer to go to on any and every occasion, but this one just...is IT. It is within walking distance or busing distance (depending on the level of groceries) to my apartment, and I just love it. Definitely not as big as some Wegmans can be but it does the job quite well. I love the atmosphere and the urbanity of this location. There's a TON of space to sit in the Market Cafe, they have the Buzz, they have a sub station, the hot bar, and pizza. If you want a sit down meal, they're attached to Amore! The only thing that I have to say negative is that I sometimes cannot find ground chicken (depending on when I'm looking) but other than that, I've had no problems. Beer Store selection is great and sometimes when you don't need to shop, you just need to be IN WEGMANS and this one does a perfect job for that, too. read more

After being bounced around to various departments I reached someone who said "yes we have that in the fridge" so I got ready & made my way ALL the way there to be told "we haven't carried that in years".. Another proud offspring of the Wegmans family, I'm happy to say that this Wegmans fails to disappoint at most levels. Having much to offer at reasonable prices, this Wegmans is just like the others. They have a great selection of hot foods, good produce, and bakery items. I did notice on one hand, that this branch had a lot of Wegmans-brand items. I don't see anything wrong with this but on the other hand, I do wish they would start carrying some more popular-brand name foods that I can find at other supermarkets...even at the local gas station! However, I had an easy time finding what I wanted with the accessible aisles and the service was nice as I would expect it to be coming from other Wegmans in the area. The addition of the smoothies (which Dirk W. pointed out) is a cool little feature that I neglected to try, but will give it a go next time I come back. It's great to see Wegmans continue to build thier branches and extend throughout Rochester as with each branch, they add something new to the Wegmans experience. I live close to East Ave Wegman's and shopped mostly in Pittsford W. due to speciousness, layout and ease of parking. But loved East ave W. to get quick needs and was OK with the narrow isles and so on. Now when they announced the new W. I was excited and I kept my bar higher for the final end product. I would say I am really disappointed. This is not even closer to Pittsford nor the old East. It is a middle product not solving any of the issues. Parking is still a problem isles are still packed comparing to Pittsford. Layout is OK. Personally I am disappointed. What we got was a brand new Wegman's with the same problems. I love the new look and what it has done to the surrounding area for sure. A great face lift. After 3 visits for our regular shopping to East we have decided to go back to Pittsford. Alas. read more

Just a caveat, this review is for the coffee bar, The Buzz, at Wegmans. I've travelled the globe and my favorite coffee is still in Italy. Lets be clear, when I say coffee I mean my cappucis! The wonderful flavor, dense foam and warm milk - the Italians still have it right. So...the Ultimate Latte from Wegmans...lovely. No sugar needed. Seriously. Smooth flavor and no bitterness in the coffee, then that perfect creamy foam to top it off. Not exactly the cappuccino, given it is called a latte here, but very very close. Not all their baristas have it down perfectly, but because the coffee bean is so perfect it will never be bitter, just make sure you tell them how you like your milk...more foamy or more milky. One more thing, size matters...8 oz cup. Anything larger then you get more of that latte type drink and then it really doesn't work. Oh okay...one more thing...they make it with whole milk and if you don't do whole milk, then this cup of coffee definitely isn't for you. read more

I love many things about Wegmans. But along with the Disney World experience and variety comes the high prices and occasionally a product thats not up to par such as this empty eclaire. The parking is a circus at all locations so be prepared for musical cars. Their pizza and convenience foods are delicious but maybe not so nutritional. Most locations are worth a visit for newbies just to check out the empire they have built and how over the top grocery shopping can be for your sences. read more
