Every time I go into this place, I leave with a smile on my face! My first experience with a Wegmans was back in 2012 in Valley Forge, PA when I was floored! Wegmans in Manhattan has managed to maintain that sense of a nice, well run, well stocked market with great amenities( connected restaurant) with friendly and courteous staff which attracts friendly and courteous customers ( even in the Villlage). Almost every item is of high quality and convenience although not always the best prices. We prefer this much more than Whole Foods by far. The bakery section is fantastic. So good that I need to make sure I don't come here very often. But if you're looking for fresh bread, or pastries, or fabulous chocolate chip cookies, or a slice of cake...this is the place. Speaking of those cookies: I saw them mentioned online as one of the best things to try at Wegman's (the "Ultimate Chocolate Chip" cookies) so I had to try them out for myself. They are truly fantastic. They sell them in a few different sizes too - you can get them in a big bucket or buy the smaller batch that comes with 5 or 6, or a 2-pack. The downstairs section is beautifully laid out especially all of the meats and cheeses. Really it seems fun to go when you can take your time to really explore the store and figure out what you want. If you put stuff in the cart impulsively that's fine too, but for sure it will add up. Oh, will it add up. This is why I need to not come here too often, ha ha. I've found a lot to love though, including: the sugar bomb tomatoes, the cave-ripened cheeses, parmesan crisps, deli meats...if you go in the aisles where the packaged foods are you can definitely get some good buys on certain items, such as the Wegman's peanut butter and their boxes of tea. Back upstairs: more foods to check out, including a lot of prepared foods (hot and cold options), and when you actually want to do checkout, it seems to move fast, unless you want to check out with a cashier. For that it seems to be more of a wait. If you're fine with doing self-serve, you won't wait long at all because they have tons of machines. (And if you get stuck and something's not ringing up right, etc., they are quick to come help you out, in my experience) Looking forward to my next trip to Wegman's. Just to confirm--Wegmans is supposed to be an upscale supermarket, right? First of all, the people making sushi on the second floor: I get that you're focused on what you're doing, but what does it mean when customers are clearly talking to you and asking questions, and every single one of you completely ignores them? For your information, I spend about $500 here every week. Some months, I spend as much as $5,000. And lately, Wegmans has been getting a reputation for having terrible customer service, hasn't it? That said, the sushi itself is excellent. You can tell it was originally supervised by real Japanese professionals. Japanese attention to detail truly is world-class. But what upset me the most today was the staffed checkout--the one with an actual human cashier. There was a young Black woman working there around 10 a.m. this morning. Let me be clear: I did not go out of my way, first thing in the morning, to shop at an upscale supermarket just to pay money to look at someone who clearly has a "I don't want to work, I'm so done with this job" face. Your customer service management is seriously off. Yes, she technically did what she was told to do. But from start to finish, she had zero motivation. I tolerated it at first--but did you really think I wouldn't notice? If this job is that damn miserable for you, then quit. It puts customers in a bad mood. There are plenty of people right now who actually want to work. And in this day and age, you're getting paid at least $15 an hour, right? If you can't even be pleasant, maybe you shouldn't be working at an upscale supermarket. This is a management problem. And subtle discrimination isn't okay either. The food items are tasty and fresh and the service you receive is always top notch. The staff is always helpful when you are unable to locate a particular food item you have purchased before. This is solely a review for the sushi and sashimi. Decided to meet up with friends for a night in & was tasked to bring rolls. There is a big variety at Wegman's, so bought a little bitof everything. Salmon, tuna, yellowtail, veggie rolls, and shrimp tempura. There was some spicy and non spicy. The food was a hit, we didnt have much left over. I preferred it to other store bought sushi. It doesn't taste like it has been left in a case all day. It is already pre-made, so no one has to serve you. If you need anything, there are staff behind the counter. I couldn't believe a Wegmans had opened up in Astor Place! Taking over where it was once Kmart, as other Wegmans, they offer various cheeses, desserts, meat and produce, seafood, prepared items, a deli, a health & wellness section, etc. We loved the fresh flowers that they had available! I've started a new journey to find the best grocery store rotisserie chicken in the United States of America. This is running parallel with my current journey to find the best rotisserie chicken in the world. Two separate journeys, as I can't imagine a grocery story will even sniff the top 10 overall. Anyways, first up is Wegmans. $9.99 for a whole Rosemary Rotisserie chicken. I went with the non-organic, as I feel like I need to keep this consistent across all grocery stores. I took my whole chicken to the park, sat on a bench, and recorded myself ripping into this tissy like a dork. I also bought a bottle of water, as I was expecting this to be dry as hell. Honestly, this chicken blew me away. Wegmans came to COMPETE. The skin was pretty crispy and the meat surprisingly tender and juicy. When I ripped into the leg, it lowkey fell off the bone. I was in shock. I didn't even need the water. Final score was 8.5 out of 10. Overall, Casa Adela is my #1 Rotisserie Chicken in America at a 9.7. A harried and unwelcoming experience. Customers and the store staff run through the place as if they are being chased. It's hard to find what you need and harder to search with people running into you. I purchased a premade salad, and it was expensive, but no better than any other supermarket premade salad sold anywhere else. On another occasion, I walked through to look at their offerings, but left without making a purchase, the prices are a turn off. The shift manager supervising the self-checkout ( visitors are corralled though the checkout section to exit regardless if you have made a purchase) asked me if I needed help as she looked me up and down. Update: When Wegmans first opened I was super excited. They had an array of food items from hot food stands and tons of seafood options. I don't know what happened but there has been a significant budget cut on the quantity & quality of food options. They have done away with all of the seafood except for the fish downstairs. I use to get grilled shrimp & amazing sandwiches from here which are now non-existent. if I'm in the area I will grab some sushi and they have freshly made oatmeal cream pie cookies with buttercream filling that I like which are expensive but that's all I have been reduced to getting. Probably the best place to buy regular groceries in this area of town. If you go on certain days/ hours (which I will not reveal) the store is nearly free of people and the shopping experience is so peaceful. Appreciate the selection of meats, although they could use a butcher counter. The variety of brand names boxed goods and coffee is unmatched. I'm a big fan of their buffalo chicken sub. The biggest issues this store has is the escalators often go down and during some times, the Instacart guys abound. I've never been to a Wegman's store before, but as I walking by, I figured let me give it a try. I actually wanted to see if they had fresh soup and I wanted a beverage. However, always by the front door, I noticed they had a cookie stand-- for $15.99 a pound. I almost thought something was wrong with my eyes. By that point, I decided I would just get a drink and head out. The store is arranged in a very neat and colorful manner. I saw nothing out of place either. I looked up and saw a shelf of freshly cut fruit, but if cookies are $16 a pound, I figured fruit would be $20 a pound. I made my way to the checkout, which is predominantly self-service. I can see Wegmans from my window and have access to shopping apps, yet I choose to do the majority of my grocery shopping at FreshDirect. The quality and service at Freshdirect is amazing. There are many choices at Wegmans but many organic and gourmet products are missing. The quality is average at best. The staff including the "customer service" are often not helpful. I certainly don't enjoy going to the store, especially with all the Instacart, UberEats, and DoorDash shoppers rushing around. Many products are only available in jumbo sizes, too large for city shoppers. They could certainly do better. read more

The food is always fresh and extraordinary with many items you can't get anywhere else and my favorite such is the cannoli chocolate chip dip and they have it without the chips if you prefer. With cannoli crackers or without it when buying the dip as you have several choices, but that's my favorite First go to before I place my order for anything else! Their salads are delicious and you can get salads for $3.88 for a late lunch or to add to it other part of your lunch but you have to order early because they do run out of them and they need to order 100 more! They will be sold I promise because I really want to buy several of them Twice a wk or every wk. Sometimes they are sold out. It's fresh fruit and veggies are wonderful! I purchased two freshly cooked poke bowls today. The packer used my bag to pack the poke bowls along with the rest of my purchases. However, the packer forgot to tape up orvfasten the poke bowl covers so when I left the store the poke bowl contents were spilled inside my bag. I immediately went back to Wegmans to report the issue to customer service. Instead of crediting me for the spilled poke bowls, she asked me if i wanted a refund so I can go back in like to order the replacement poke bowls. Since I wasn't offered other options, I had to go back in line to reorder the poke bowls and return to the cashier's line to pay for it. This extra effort took 45 minutes out of my busy weekend schedule. I was not pleased by the way Wegman customer service handled my situation. I learned about Wegmans from a news program. They were supposed to be known for their customer service. I was quited disappointed with my experience. I hope they learn from this experience to improve their customer care. read more

Wegmans might be the most comprehensive grocery store in Manhattan, even possibly beating out Whole Foods. Unlike Whole Foods they have house brands that are reasonably priced. Now obviously those who are used to Wegmans outside of New York City will notice the prices are not comparable to those in their hometown. And ultimately it's not cheaper than Trader Joe's. But they have a huge selection of items at Wegmans that can't be beat. I should preface that this selection is primarily for non ethnic super non-specific stuff. Like if you're looking for some kind of hard to find Korean products I would still go with H-mart or super specific Desi item like I would go with Patel Brothers, etc. They have two levels, a street level and a basement level. New Manhattan outpost of Wegmans is great. Much bigger than I expected. The focus is definitely on their prepared foods; any groceries can be found on the lower level but the ground level is all ready-made from the hot bar to sushi etc. Prices are a bit high: meals are around $13-15. Hot bar I think was $14.99 a pound. Groceries were a bit steep in price as well although I feel like wegman's reputation for treating their employees well justifies it. Also their house brand seemed reasonably priced. It was impeccably clean, there were plenty of self checkout registers, and the employees were nice. I'm not sure this would be my daily grocery store if I lived in nyc still because it's a bit overwhelming and expensive, but it's a fun novelty and I hope they do well. read more

The worst of the changes from the classic upstate version is swapping out friendly cashiers for intermittently successful self-checkout. Please, retailers, stop debasing the retail experience. The main floor has a barrage of prepared foods. Going downstairs, I was pleased that the first thing I saw was a giant assortment of apples. (Regrettably, the "sweettango" variety is what broke the advanced AI mind of the self-checkout machine). Breads looked good, though I don't know if I'll be springing for a $7.75 six-pack of everything bagels. I didn't eat the store-brand garlic hummus but I can speak to the wide variety of hummuses. This was more of a fact-finding mission and I wasn't sure about bringing perishable foods to New Jersey, but the cured meat section looks impressive, with a salami combo that isn't only salami. There was a stash of reasonably priced single-serve alcohol upfront - exotic to those of us in NJ who can't buy beer at supermarkets (?!) - but they should have honored their heritage with some 1911 ciders. And there were a few regular ciders and "stomps," but I didn't see any single-serve bottles like in classic Wegmans, or Whole Foods for that matter. read more

WOW, WOW, WOW Is all I can say about this place. I had to make the trip downtown to see this place for myself. I went in the morning I figured I would have to wait in a long line to get in. To my surprise there was no line. Walking in I was greeted but many staff asking if I needed help finding anything and welcoming me. Not sure if it was because it was the opening day but it was a tad overwhelming. But it was nice. This Wegmans is two floors and super spacious. There is an escalator and an elevator. It has many food stations where you can make your own meal and they have a pizza bar, sandwich, wing bar and more. This supermarket is very well organized and has many different types of food and drinks. It also has a section for like kids snacks/ drinks which I found cute. I thought checking out was going to be a madhouse but to my surprise there was only one person in front of me. I will definitely be back here and do some shopping. I only this time around got a pretty bottle that has olive oil in it. Which I got a compliment on. Some lady stopped me and asked where I got it. She said how beautiful it was. 100% Recommend going especially if you live/ work in the area. I probably would not go during busy times though. read more

Like many, I was excited that Wegman's was opening in Manhattan. I went to college upstate NY, and used to go to Wegman's during that time. Unfortunately over time, that initial excitement has been diminishing, and I find myself increasingly returning to local NYC groceries as this Wegman's is increasingly dropping the ball. I have their app and I like that I can search for items and it shows the exact aisle and shelf where it can be found. It also shows if something is in stock or not. Well... It USED to give me that info. Now I am finding that the accuracy of this is tanking. I plan a meal and check that the ingredients are available at Wegmans when I make my shopping list. I ride my bike over or walk in the bitter cold only to find out that things are not in stock. I did reach out to them on their website, explaining the frustration of trekking over only to find things are not in stock. Their suggestion was that I call the front desk at Wegmans to verify things are actually in stock before going there. Frankly, I feel it's absurd to waste an employee's time to verify my grocery list when the app is supposed to indicate when something is out of stock. Today I encountered this once again, and the employee I asked was pretty annoyed that I bothered him to ask where is the chicken I see on the app. He checked in the back, returned in a few moments said they are don't have it, and pointed me to other (more expensive) options. Honestly, it starts to feel like a bait & switch scam. Second: The professional shopper situation here is annoying. This is also the case when I went to the Brooklyn location a few times. They often monopolize the bike racks, so it's hard to find a place to lock up my bike. In the store they leave their carts anywhere, obstructing other shoppers while they go searching for things. If you're looking at something, they rudely reach right in front of you to grab something -- like you're not there. I've been startled a few times when a hand suddenly appears from behind me, grabbing something from the shelf in front of me. I honestly wish they had blocks of time where professional shoppers are not allowed. Third: Their produce is hit or miss -- but sadly, it is mostly miss. I often see sad wilting & rotting produce that they have the nerve to charge full price. This weekend I wanted to buy some fresh dill -- but the entire bin of fresh dill was full of bunches of rotting dill. When I went to grab a bunch, my hand was coated in wet rotting dill. On top of that, there are no scales on the far left (near the peppers) so you have to constantly walk back & forth halfway across the store to weigh -- and so often those scales are monopolized by professional shoppers. Fourth: A few months ago I bought a bag of Wegman's brand potato chips which I planned to portion out. I used my scale at home to weigh out equal portions. I was confused and checked my math because there weren't enough chips to weight out four equal portions. Finally, I weighed the entire contents of chips and realized that it was 25% less than what it should have been. I contacted them on their website to let them know there is a problem. They assured me there was no problem with their supplier. I was at Wegman's a couple weeks later and thought to check. I took several bags of their potato chips to the scales in produce and weighed them. It was obvious that for whatever reason several bags of the chips were underweight by 25% -- just as I told them. Obviously no one checked & removed these bags of potato chips that were being sold underweight to their customers. Now, if a customer wasn't weighing out equal portions like I was doing, they probably wouldn't notice. Maybe they might "feel" like there used to be more chips, when in fact the amount being sold was something like 25% less than there should be. That was kind of shady (and maybe illegal?). I will say that generally when I notice a problem, they correct it with no problem -- so maybe this was a fluke? Now, the good: In general, the employees are nice & friendly. Store is kept clean. The prices generally scan accurately at checkout. I shopped at Wegman's when I was at college upstate, and wanted to like Wegman's in NYC -- but the frustration of things not being available when the app says they are in stock, annoying professional shoppers, and the poor quality of produce are increasingly sending me back to local NYC grocery stores (No -- I don't do Amazon/WholeFoods) read more

What an exhilarating experience - a perfectly timed addition to the neighborhood. I missed the long lines that were apparently there throughout the day but went after work. There was still tons of people milling about excitedly - I heard many people say that this was their first time at a Wegmans. There is so much prepared hot and cold food on the ground level, including sushi, fried chicken, grilled chicken, Mediterranean food, a wing bar, an Asian bar, cookies by the pound, poke bowls, a whole bakery, etc. On the lower level there is fresh produce, a fish station with fish from Tokyo, several cheese stations with one dedicated to Parmesan! Walking into wegmans, I was shocked by the variety of food they offered. There were many rows of different cuisines, with both cold and hot foods. I tried the pizza, sushi, soup, and cake. None of them disappointed! The sushi was surprisingly fresh and tasted great. Cheap version of omakase if you get the nigiri box! My favourite was probably the cream of broccoli soup. It was so creamy and delicious. Perfectly savory to dip my pizza crust into! Wish I also got some freshly baked bread to dip into the soup. The red velvet cake was perfectly sweet. I was expecting it to be American-bakery-style extra sweet, but it was nicely moist with a hint of sweetness. Definitely go take a look if you haven't before! Just be warned there is no seating inside, as most customers are probably office workers who eat in their office or students who go back to school/dorms. In my previous trips, I haven't noticed anything exemplary in produce or packaged goods, and I get my non-dairy milks closer to home--or at Lifethyme, which is a few blocks west on the M8 bus. Really awesome, clean, large, fresh grocery store in the center of Manhattan. Everything about it is exactly what you want from your local grocery store. The fresh sushi and prepared meals are my favorite. While some of these items are a bit higher price than you'd expect, I find them to be fair. The groceries are wonderfully well-stocked and I love that they never seem to run out of what I need. I love the fresh flowers in the front and the cart escalator to get to the lower level. Wegmans on Broadway near Astor place routinely allows dogs in the store. I just came GRK There and I saw a 20-something guy and his girlfriend with a dog on a leash walking all around the store. Happens very often. The dog did not appear to be a legit support dog. Emotional support or therapy dogs are not allowed under the code. This is unsanitary. Wegmans should be more diligent and enforce health codes. read more
