It's place that warrants wandering to appreciate. All items are of very high quality, and the variety is what makes shopping fun. We left with gifts for friends and a "few" things for ourselves. The person at the counter was so pleasant, clearly sincerely kind. This was our first visit to Ouray -- we loved every minute, and our time at Khristophers was memorable, and will help cement our memories until we are fortunate enough to return to such a majestically beautiful town.

Eventually ordered what i paid full price for and one more visit to replace the damaged door panel it came with. In the whole process we must have called them 10-15 times and never once received a call back...only way anything got done was if they picked up randomly and/or you go to the store again in person (which i was forced to do to get the damaged door panel ordered and scheduled. I've been coming to the area for nearly 10 years and have visited people staying at this ranch on…read moremany occasions, but last summer was the first time I actually stayed here. How you rate a place like this is super subjective, so I'm going to do my best to paint a picture. It won't be 5 stars for everyone but this place has a good mix of 'more than the cheap places' while being 'way cheaper than the fancy places.' The best thing about this place is you pay by the day, not by the week. While a weekly rate can definitely work in your favor, it can also make a 4 day trip or a 9 day trip way more expensive than it has to be. This is a really convenient option that I like a lot! They also allow pets and a lot of places around here do not. A week in August for 4 people and 1 dog in a 3 bed cabin was $825, a steal! For the price, you are getting more than you do with a lot of the nearby affordable ranches and campgrounds. Where other places charge more to get a cabin with a bathroom and shower, or the only electric thing in the cabin will be the lights and fridge, or may only have primitive cabins, Freemons is very accommodating. Every cabin has a restroom and shower, every cabin has additional amenities you won't find in others like a heater, coffee makers, microwaves, toasters. They also have free WiFi! Those are a real difference between getting away and roughing it. Things that won't appeal to everyone and is the difference between this place and fancier accommodations: though they clean the cabins, everyone is responsible for cleaning their dishes and removing trash. Therefore you may find some of the dishes were not cleaned to your standards or some of the cookware not up to what you have at home. If you spend time in cabins, this is old hat. The beds aren't all that comfortable, but the one we stayed in was firm enough to prevent too many back issues. Most beds in the cabins will be fulls with some queens, but nothing larger. Of course I missed my king size bed at home, but that's another first world problem that you'll expect if you frequent cabins. I did find cabin 8 to have a very cramped layout, particularly the bathroom which seemed slanted and had a small shower meant for taller people (I got sprayed right in the eyes every shower and emerged looking like a vampire). However, I have visited in other cabins (can't recall the numbers) with more spacious layouts, better hot water heaters and/or more privacy. They have options, though those options might sleep less people or have other trade offs. Something rather impressive about #8 was it had one of the best kitchen layouts I've seen in cabins and a very large kitchen table where many a card game was played late into the night. It balanced with my previous experiences at other establishments quite well. Freemons is also a quick walk across the bridge to their general store that also sells delicious burgers and ice cream and forgotten supplies. They also have horseback rides you can sign up for. Also, they have a small stream running through the property so you can still fish if you can't make it to the more popular spots on a particular day. The only thing I like less than other places I've stayed is the reservation experience. It's a family place and Starr is the only one who handles the reservations, and she's busy, so making the plans and getting to find out which cabin is available takes weeks longer here than at other places. I prefer being able to call, find out all my answers at once and make the arrangements. But hey, some places deal by mail only, at least she uses email! You will need to provide a $100 deposit in advance (by April 1st for our August trip) and pay the rest when you arrive. That's super reasonable. You will be mailed instructions during the early winter months. In the past I've always come in July and that month books up much faster than August, but you still need to plan in advance. It wasn't crowded at all anywhere we went during this time, which was awesome. Compared to other vacations where you pack your clothing and toiletries, the only difference is you need to bring towels and your food supplies. That's easier than needing to bring appliances and cookware or make your own fires at other places. It doesn't matter what your first world outlook is though, that view is spectacular and this made for a very peaceful and well rested vacation, which I very much needed. Always 5 stars in my book!

One recommended we drive into Teec Nos Pos to the Trading Post. Teec Nos Pos is everything you want it to be and more. A museum, a butcher, a convenience store, a drugstore, an art gallery, a library, a gas station. It's the most happening place for miles. You can still buy music on CASSETTE TAPES! You can buy Cactus Cooler in the can! Medicinal herbs in baggies prepared by a medicine man for all sorts of ailments. The real treat is, make sure you're not too muddy, and go in the artist room. You will see color ways, rugs, jewelry, all hand made by local artisans. We bought a gorgeous color way for a very fair price. We got to see the community coming in for gas and snacks. It was probably one of my favorite moments of our entire trip.
