We haven't been here in about 8+ years and it's changed ownership since we last visited. We had a good experience prior, just hadn't made our way back, and felt it was time for another visit. Our experience was absolutely fantastic! The vibes and ambiance in the space are great, the bat has all the bottles on display of all the options, the menu has a great variety of unique and interesting cocktail interpretations. We got to chatting with Chris and learned so much from him, got to try so many interesting creations from Waypoint, which even led us to buying a couple bottles to take home! I decided that because it was my first time, I would start by getting a flight to see what I liked. I got a flight with vanilla, citrus and espresso vodka, and rum. they were all Incredible flavorful and smooth. My favorite was the vanilla vodka - which was very smooth, and has great flavor. We also got a charcuterie for two- and it was extremely good.. the cheese was fresh and so were the meats and fruits. After the flight, I decided to get a drink. I got the Hurricane which was made with their rum and was exactly what you would expect. My bf got the Boulevardier and really enjoyed it.. he said it had a full and oaky flavor and really enjoyed it. This is definitely a hidden gem.. and I think everyone needs to come here!! The bartender was personable, and definitely did not make us feel uncomfortable. He was funny and was very friendly. I didn't realize there were ANY distilleries within driving distance of my parents' house in New England, let alone such an amazing one! I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the area. For one, the extensive cocktail menu doesn't just rely on classics. Yes, you will find Old Fashioneds and Pina Coladas, but then they throw you for a loop with a Blackberry Lemon Gin and Tonic or a Bourbon Cider Mule. My family and I enjoyed a few holiday themed cocktails while snacking on the delicious munchies on the menu. The pizza is apparently the hands-down favorite, but we definitely enjoyed the soft pretzels and cannoli as well. Portions were generous and a great pairing to the amazing cocktail menu! I wish I'd gotten a few bottles to bring back with me to the West Coast. Next time! Oh and if Liz is your bartender, you're in for a treat. She's amazing and wonderful at creating the perfectly balanced cocktail and letting you sample a spirit you're unsure of. Bonus--come during a night when she's singing! Our server Patrick was fantastic and the food was excellent! We had the artichoke spinach dip and the garlic bread apps. I highly recommend both. Patrick was laid back and so helpful. I came here for a private event tonight. This distillery opened back in July and is well on its way to producing a unique and carefully crafted vodka and gin. We had a tour by one of the owners, and he described their full process as well as the craft distillery world in Connecticut. They've done a lot of testing to find their perfect blend. The space is really large, and there's a tasting bar area in the front. It's fun that you can bottle your own vodka for purchase. I had never heard of Waypoint spirits until the Yelp Elite event. I was lucky enough to be chosen to attend, and it was a very educational experience. This is the new breed of craft distilleries - "grain to glass" - the wheat they use is produced in the town of Bloomfield, and fermented and distilled in small batches (for example, vodka is made in 150 gallon runs, their gin in 50 gallon batches). While many other distilleries call themselves "craft", they're also making 100,000 cases a year; Waypoint produces a fraction of that, and it's all "hands on". A tour of the distillery showed that, while currently small, they are planning for the future. According to our tour guide, Doug, one of the owners, they designed the facility for expansion, and that adding the equipment into their current infrastructure and being able to use it will take about three weeks, and it would double their production. What's holding them back seems to be getting enough local farmers to produce the wheat they need to do that. Waypoint is very adamant about being a local business that supports other local businesses. One good reason to give them support. I tasted many of the currently available spirits they have for sale, and I was lucky enough to try some new varieties they are developing. Their bread and butter, so to speak, is their vodka. It was their first product since it didn't need aging, and they were selling it two weeks after putting the stills into action. I bought a bottle of their "Spicy XIII" vodka - the thirteen flavors required for the perfect Bloody Mary blended into vodka - just add tomato juice and garnish as you wish. It is a unique product, and if you're a Bloody Mary lover, it's worth the trip from anywhere just to score a bottle of this. Call first - it's one of their most popular styles of vodka, and they have a hard time keeping it in stock. Their Wintonbury Gin is produced in a different "bootleg-type" still, in small batches, with a proprietary mix of botanicals. It's not your average "London Dry" type gin - it's closer to a Genever or Old Tom style, but not really either. It's a unique flavor profile, and one you have to try for yourself. I agree with John, one of the other owners, who was pouring our tastes, that it's better suited for savory cocktails, instead of sweet. He suggested a gin and tonic made with cucumber and basil for a refreshing summer drink. I tried it. I agree. The whiskeys are a work in progress. The current whiskeys are unaged, so there's a raw bite to them, but not an overwhelming one. They do sit for a bit in charred French oak, so that's where the color and flavor comes from. They're starting to age some of their production, and in a few years, we'll see a completely different whiskey from them. I can't wait. They also produce rum, which is a spiced variety - not my favorite, but quite good. Great vanilla notes to it, without it tasting like vanilla extract like some commercial brands. Distillery tours are Friday evenings, 4-7pm, and Saturdays, 12 to 4pm. At the time of this writing, tours are $8 per person. Bottles of their products are available for sale after the tasting. For a different date or evening out, this is the perfect place to go. read more

Waypoint Spirits isn't just your typical boutique distillery -- in addition to producing most (if not all) of their stuff in-house, a very recent tour of their distillery was not only informative and fun, but frankly impressive. They mill their own wheat, own their own stills/holding tanks/ and silos -- and are one of a handful of craft distilleries in CT. Aside from the bar-top seating, there are several spot to hang out at too in the lounge area. After a year of being in business, owners, Doug and John, sure did a great job at making us feel welcomed and made sure our group had a great time. We had a fantastic experience at Waypoint Spirits this past Sunday. This distillery is still in its infancy, but they are really fantastic. We had a Groupon for a tasting, tour, and glasses for 4 and for $20 we certainly made out... We sampled 7 of their liquors and were offered several complementary mixed drinks. I have never been to a winery, brewery, or distillery so generous! The spiked pumpkin cider was especially delicious, but the vodka lemonade was also well done. The distillery itself is incredibly clean, with a medium sized bar with television and a few high top tables in the front and the distilling space (which they apparently often use for events) in the back. The restrooms were very clean. Overall the place has a charming, but subtle nautical feel. Both the bartender and the one of the owners, Chris, who gave us the tour were incredibly personable, friendly, and deeply passionate about Waypoint and their mission to craft locally sourced spirits in conjunction with local businesses. If I remember correctly we sampled the following (there are some I sadly forgot to include): Labrador Noon Vodka - Clean tasting, no pungent finish. Very solid... Wintonbury Gin - Really balanced gin with floral notes. Unusually smooth finish, no bite whatsoever. Impressive! Man Overboard Spiced Flavor Rum - Great spice flavor with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. Notable vanilla notes. Great on the rocks. Spicy XIII - A MUST TRY********* Literally tastes like a bloody Mary. The bartender recommended mixing it with V8, but there is absolutely no need. You can honestly taste all XIII flavors. Never had something so unique. Truly incredible. Honey Habanero Whiskey - Another unique spirit. Honey perfectly neutralizes the sting of the habanero, but spice and warmth of the pepper still lingers. Super smooth. Coffee Liquor - Well balanced coffee liquor that stands on its own. Absolutely no need to mix, just enjoy on the rocks. No bitterness whatsoever, but not overly sweet. Special Batch Whiskey - Very pleasant whiskey with rich flavor profile. Not as notable as some of their other products, but well done. For a group of owners who are still working their "day jobs" and working nights and weekends on this business Waypoint exceeded my expectations. If you want to support a great local "grain to glass" distillery that are truly carving a unique niche with their products get over to Waypoint. This is truly a fantastic business. read more

Staff are very friendly and open about the process of making the products, you can ask Jason anything and he will you give you a detailed explanation. We've seen them give countless tours to anyone who is interested. Perfect if you are interested in learning, they have classes occasionally as well. Love to stop by after work to catch happy hour for great food and drink that is the best deal that we have found around here. The dishes are unique, delicious, and we love that they frequently update/modify the menus with both food and drink so there's different and new things to try. They will also make you any food or drink you want as long as they have the ingredients on hand. We enjoy coming here because everything on the drink and food menu is excellent, the prices are great, and the staff is always smiling. We love Waypoint and find ourselves here almost every week, especially when the weather is good and can enjoy the outdoor seating area! read more

The flavor of the spirits is not what one would expect from a craft distiller, as I assure you, you will be pleasantly surprised. I'm actually puzzled why I don't see their product in more places. I came here with my boyfriend yesterday as part of our CT Beer Trail tour, and this was one of the highlights of our day. After 7 hours of drinking, we were dead tired, but the owners (Doug and John) won us over with their enthusiasm and hospitality. Not to mention, the samples we had of their vodka and gin were wonderfully creative. They started us off with half a shot of their Labrador Noon vodka paired with a slice of cucumber topped with spicy brown mustard and salt. I'm not into either of those on their own, but the combination was strangely delicious. I normally never sip vodka, but this was surprisingly smooth and didn't have so much of the burn I normally associate with vodka. Next we tried their Wintonberry gin, which also went down a lot smoother than I was expecting. Finally, we moved onto a cranberry lime vodka cocktail that was delicious. All of these were poured right in front of us while the owners talked about the history of their place. They then took us on a tour of their distillery and we got to watch them fill up bottles of vodka and even help seal them. We finished the visit with another great cocktail, this time with gin, before we had to say goodbye. I was almost sad to leave--they really made it feel like we were stepping into a friend's home. Since the tour was already paid for, I can't attest to the prices of the tour + tasting, but we had such a great time that I would definitely go back. The facility is bright and beautifully decorated, a real classy place. The owners are friendly, down-to-earth people who are following their dreams and putting out a great product. My boyfriend and I have a lot of respect for them. They said they're planning on tackling rum and whiskey next, and I have no doubt they're on to great things. So I wasn't sure what to expect but I have to say it was extremely cool. The guy that lead our tour was super energetic and I loved all the tidbits of history that he threw in about the area. I am not a huge fan of liquor but I just may have been converted the honey habanero vodka was excellent, the smell put me off at first but the lingering taste of honey on my tongue was heaven. By far my favorite was the Bloody Mary vodka. All the kick of a real Bloody Mary and just as much flavor. The only part that was an issue was it was really warm in the building. read more

been here in the past, this place is a go to! the sample flight is fantastic. the spice 13 is one of my favorites especially with v8 tomato juice (go to bloody mary). the man overboard spiced rum is made from sugar cane and has a delicious vanilla bean after taste. i bought a bottle! the vodka and gin are super smooth and distilled a bunch of times. (vodka six times distilled). erin is AWESOME btw - her and her little pug are so sweet. she had made a coquito that was fantastic...who doesn't love coquito?? this was the hubs first time having it and he fell in love. guess i have to make it at home now :) read more

Take the tour, it's quick but informative and the tasting! So many small batch options to try, using locally sourced products and there's something for everyone. Doug was a wonderful tour guide and John was the perfect bartender. They were incredibly generous with their samples and entirely open about their distilling methods. The tour was detailed, full of little known fun facts, and entertaining. These guys are genius. The alcohol they create is truly art and one-of-a-kind. One of our first samples was Labrador Noon Spicy XIII, a 'bloody mary' infused vodka. First, I thought that was a unique and easy to remember name. Second, it was absolutely delicious. Third, it was revolutionary. Imagine never having to measure out all those ingredients for bloody marys again! Just pour the infused vodka into your tomato juice and enjoy. After asking the price for such a gem, I braced myself, and was shocked when Doug told me it was just under $22. Overall, this place is expertly run, incredibly friendly, and full of fun. The distilling room is an adult playground, complete with a sound stage, festive lights, basketball hoop, cornhole, a rooftop deck (where they are in the process of building another bar), and space for food trucks to drive right inside. They love hosting events, and while I only went for a tour, I can't wait to go back for a special event and take advantage of all the fun they have to offer and, of course, their delicious creations! I had no idea this was nestled in a slightly industrial section of otherwise suburb Bloomfield. It is truly fantastic. In short, let me tell you a few things about this barely-one-year-old Bloomfield wonderland... 1) location location location: plenty of parking, easy drive, in an area with practically no traffic (I know, I drive nearby every day to/from work) 2) crafty concoctions: the samples are generous, and the booze is truly unique. Bloody mary infused vodka and habenero honey whiskey are a couple, as well as samples of their newest experiments that I can't legally tell you about because they can't sell them yet. Pro tip: go check them out to see what I'm talking about. 3) fair prices and local support: the vodka, which I had to get because it is so beautifully blended and infused it tasted like the most potent bloody mary I have ever had, was half of what I expected. Seriously, the vodka itself is all you need. But if you want, you can add some tomato juice. On top of being insanely affordable, they pair with local companies to strengthen the community while giving it its own flair. One of their partners is a local apple farm, and they take cider and make it deliciously boozy and send it back to the farm to sell. There's more, but, you should go talk to the distillery to learn about it. 4) ADULT PLAYGROUND: the bar is cozy, with plenty of seating and open floor, and a beautiful backsplash and local art. But the true gem is the distillery itself, which you can see through a window in the bar. The equipment in the distillery is state-of-the-art, but the process is by hand (seriously, we saw the buckets that they fill by hand to carry the ingredients around in, and the 'bottling station' that was a metal table and stool). But besides shiny stainless steel and twenty-five foot ceilings, this place has a literal playground in their distillery. There's a sound stage, Louisiana festival lights, cornhole, basketball, a rooftop deck that they are going to add another bar to, and a ramp into the distillery for food trucks. Yes. You read that right. Food trucks drive and park inside the distillery during events. Long story short, I can't wait to go back and play. read more

I recently stopped in for a Yelp elite event for a tour and tasting. This was my second stop in to this distillery as I live about a mile ago. My first visit was about six months ago at which point Waypoint was only making gin and vodka. We liked both and appreciated that the use of local agriculture to make local spirits. This time, I was pleased to see that their repertoire has expanded to some of the brown liquors. I enjoyed the thorough and informative tour of the facilities. I also enjoyed very much trying the varieties of rum and whisky they were sampling. The definite favorite, however, was the spicy made-for-bloodies vodka. BYO tomato juice and you're set! read more

Bought a Groupon for the tour and 4 pours of their alcohol. I must say this place is nicely put together and the bartender/hostess who made our drinks was a sweetheart. We went on a Saturday around 2:00 on a really hot day. I'm not sure if they are not allowed to have the air on due to making the alcohol but after drinking a few shots of vodka and whisky we almost had to take our shirts off!! It was extremely humid in there. We didn't do the actual tour because to be honest we were tipsy from the drinks and it was just way too hot to go through with it. Awesome place though! read more
