Some of the western shore comprises of private property with no beach access but there is a public beach and campground area a few miles out of town. The effects of the 2021 Dixie Fire are seen along the drive, but there were still some green pines along the shore. The beach itself was rocky but wonderfully windswept and dramatic. Late on a Saturday afternoon it was very quiet-only 2 boaters coming in and no one else using the day use area. The water was very choppy following some afternoon thunderstorms and the skies were very moody. It was a nice way to stretch my legs after a long drive from the Bay Area and hope I get the chance to check out the East shore during my visit.

After staying here for a week I figured I should write a review for this place. Overall it was a…read morevery good stay. The campground is about 3 miles off of Prattville Butt Reservoir Road. It's a narrow and winding road with steep grades so be cautious. Once inside the campground you will find signs clearly marking the sites so finding where you need to be shouldn't be an issue. The sites are spaced far enough apart and are decent size as to not be a problem with your neighbors. Parking spots are also fairly large. We easily parked two vehicles in one spot. There was a faucet fairly close to our site, but they ask that you do not wash at it. We took paper plates with us, so that wasn't a big deal. Trash bins are few and far. I only saw two dumpsters (there might be more, not sure) and for us they were a bit of a walk. No big deal, though. We just saved our trash in a bag and hiked it over at the end of the day. The camp hosts seemed friendly. No problems with them to report. They were always buzzing around in their golf carts checking on things and cleaning up after slobs. Cell service is obtainable. I use Verizon and had to drive back out towards Prattville Butt Reservoir Road about 1.5 miles to get a signal, but I did get connected. During our stay the campground literally went silent at 9:00pm. Not sure why, but it seemed the entire population all went to sleep at the same time. The town of Chester is only about a 12 mile drive from the campground, so if you forgot something you might be able to just drive into town and get it. The wildlife was our only worry. During our stay there was a report of a bear wondering around. We never saw it, though. There are food lockers, but most are made of old plywood. I can't see those being much use against a bear. We just put all our food in the car at the end of the day. Bear spray is something you might consider as a "just in case" item. Hornets and flies were another issue, but when you are out in nature like that what can one expect? Chipmunks were running all over the place and were very entertaining to watch. They didn't cause any problems, and didn't try to steal anything. In conclusion I would rate this campground 5 stars. We had a great time just relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. I was able to fly a small drone (DJI Mini 2) around and snap a bunch of photos. I posted some here. Just a side note: The Dixi Fire burned right to the edge of the campground, so that much was saved and is still worth a visit. The grounds were not effected by the fire.

We were able to…read moreget a first-come, first-served site that backed right up to the lake, which provided a beautiful setting and easy access to enjoy the water. Overall, it was a peaceful place to relax and we had a great time at the lake. The camp host was a bit gruff and questioned us about how thoroughly we had completed the paperwork, which felt a little unnecessary. We also noticed some inconsistency with enforcing campground rules. The posted flyer asks that dogs remain leashed and that campfires not be left unattended, but the site next to us near the bathroom frequently had their dog off leash and left their fire burning while they went to the beach. Additionally, campers across the campground played music at a very loud volume for extended periods, but it did not appear that they were approached or reminded about campground quiet expectations. Despite those issues, our overall stay was enjoyable. The lake views, location, and experience of camping right on the water made it a memorable trip, and we would consider returning.

Such a wonderful experience! We hosted a celebration of life for my mother in law here and we could…read morenot have found a more peaceful and beautiful place to honor her. Russ and Debbie, the owners, were so accommodating, enjoyable, helpful and easy going; people you could just spend all day talking to. There are some RV spaces to camp here so we stayed on site to make set up a little easier on the day of the memorial. We had family that rented a quaint one bedroom cabin on site as well. There is an outdoor covered kitchen area with a huge refrigerator, which allowed us to bring food in advance and prep the day before. It was all so convenient! They were in the path of the Dixie fire, so the drive out there is baron, but don't let that deter you. Once you arrive, you are surrounded by green trees and stunning scenery. It was a perfect hidden gem. We are so pleased with our entire experience at lassen meadows and would absolutely recommend it and use this venue again for other events.

We stayed at this campground in 2022 and appreciated its convenient location. Unfortunately, our…read morecustomer service experiences were disappointing. In 2022, my husband made our reservation, but due to work, I had to arrive before him. Because the reservation was under his name, I was not permitted to access our campsite when I arrived, despite sharing the same last name and being part of the reservation. I waited approximately six hours, until around 7 p.m., before the reservation could be accessed, which meant setting up our tent in the dark. We attempted to find an alternative solution, including canceling and rebooking the reservation under my name, but we were told that doing so would result in being charged twice. We attempted to book again in 2026 but ultimately had to cancel approximately two weeks in advance due to unforeseen circumstances. Under the campground's cancellation policy, we were charged an $81 cancellation fee, in addition to a previously charged $13 transaction fee. We found the policy and the lack of flexibility very disappointing. Based on our experiences, I would recommend looking into Rocky Point or PG&E-owned campgrounds in the Lake Almanor area. We have found those options to be more accommodating, well maintained, and reasonably priced.

You can either park right next to the gift shop/museum/bathrooms or go to the right just after the first parking lot and there's tons of parking on the backside where there lots of pick nick tables and a boat launch area. This is also where you will find the trail that goes all the way around the lake with stunning views on every side with the gorgeous Lassen in the background. This is about a mile around with easy walking. There's also fishing here off shore or in your boat. Wanna go further up the mountain? You can go another 7 miles and hike up to the backside of Lassen. There is a further drive here to get to the other volcanoes in the park. There was too much snow so the roads were closed. It's important for me to make note here that there really good points of history all along the way on plaques you will see along the road. Very worth stopping at them and reading them. Incredible how these mountains were created and also had rock avalanches. Scary and incredibly interesting. I definitely recommend putting this on your bucket list to visit.

Many bird watchers, anglers, and photographers gather here. It's that perfect place to forget all your troubles and become one with nature. Unfortunately dogs aren't allowed to hike around the loop. I'm sure they would love it. Kayaks are available to rent as well, but not needed to enjoy the fantastic views. If you are camping at the Manzanita Campground, that's even better! Hiking the trail every day during your stay is the best!
