This bagel place is my go-to whenever I return to Calgary. I love St-Viateur in Montreal and this place hits the same happy bagel wiggle every time. The bagels are fresh, the staff is friendly, there is a small place to eat but there are a lot of to go orders. The food is fresh and delicious and the service is fast. I've never had a Montreal-style bagel so I can't speak to the authenticity, but I loved my experience at Wayne's. My family came by to pick up some bagel sandwiches for breakfast on a cold morning. I ordered the Breakfast Bagel on a rosemary rock salt. It was a bit small compared to a NY-style bagel, but it was delicious; it came with butter, bacon, cheese and egg. It was crisp but chewy on the inside and the amount of salt was perfect. There was a sign warning customers that bagels may take 10 minutes to prepare since everything is made-to-order. I made a purchase one time - at the Wayne's Bagels at the Calgary Farmer's Market. I got 6 "everything" bagels. They were not. These bagels do NOT have garlic and onion, which every other bagel of the same name I have purchased has. I randomly asked 2 people what comes on an "everything" bagel and in both cases, garlic and onion was listed in the first 3 toppings. Fortunately, adding garlic/herb cream cheese saved the "everything" experience. Beyond the toppings, the bagels were ordinary - nothing spectacular, hence the average 3-star rating. read more

The shop was clean out front but not so much in the back from what I could glimpse. They have a decent selection on their menu but what I would like to see is some more unique flavors of bagels (for example: Saskatoonberry). What I found surprising was upon leaving the employee offered to recycle my bagel container that came with my sandwich. Why not advertise that they do that somewhere in the store? Unfortunately, I didn't see the employee actually recycle it, all they did was place it beside the toaster oven. Truthfully the best bagels in Calgary. Been a visitor of this location for a while but with Amber as manager the store vibe has increased. She brings such an amazing energy and is so helpful and truly cares about her customers. Recommend this place over any. Bagel BLT ALWAYS amazing & can't go wrong with any bagel and cream cheese. Wayne's Bagels has a stand at the Symons Valley Ranch Farmer's Market Fri-Sun and we stop by every weekend that we remain in town. They are GOOD! You can always get a free sample with a smile from the lovely girl that works there. Get there early for your choice as the bagel varieties do tend to run out but at the end of the day, with what is left they make assorted bags of 6 for $5. A great deal. They also freeze well. We recently tried the chile cream cheese for take-home and it was really good. The plain one is creamy goodness and I recommend that one also. Being from Ottawa I do know a thing or 2 about a couple of things - poutine is 1 and bagels is 2nd. Nothing beats a chewy Montreal style bagel with a tiny hint of sweetness. These guys do it right and the service cannot be beat! read more

The till was not working properly so I couldn't use cash, but the girl working there did her best to try and get it working, so that is why I gave a 5 star. My boyfriend's family is from Montreal and there is ONLY one place in town where they buy their bagels and it happens to be Wayne's Bagels. I had never tried the delicious goods until just recently, and now that I've had them, nothing else will do! Wayne's bagels was established in 1997 and is owned by Wayne & Helen Kim. Wayne & Helen make it a point to ensure their bagels are the authentic Montreal-style - chewy and dense, oh and good to the very last bite! Whether you fancy cinnamon raisin, marble rye, walnut and almonds or plain ol' multi-grain, Wayne's Bagels are THE best bagels in town. Trust me though, once you start, you wont be able to stop. Wayne's bagels are the real Montreal style deal. Chewy and not as heavy & bready as the usual bagels you get in Calgary. The only negative is that their retail/eating location isn't that awesome. It is dark and occasionally the food isn't quite what you hoped. (Toasted bagel that is barely warmed,etc). Overall, if you have a hankering for a bagel, definitely stop in here for a dozen and a container of your favorite schmear. read more

I am addicted to Montreal smoked meat, and sacrilegiously (to smoked meat lore, that is) I like it with bagel instead of rye. Now that I've alienated all the Montrealers, I can say that Wayne's Bagels is one of the best places to get a hot bagel and smoked meat sandwich in Calgary. Top two for a fact. It is really, really tasty and you can order specific toppings, not just mustard and a pickle. It is so good that it can even compare to some of the lesser Montreal joints, which is saying a lot. It's no Fairmont, but it'll do. There are also a ton of hot, fresh Montreal-style bagels and accoutrements to go. Plain, sesame, others that I personally don't care about... Short of living in Montreal, this is the closest thing to perfection in bagels and meat that you can get in Calgary. read more

I happened to drive past Wayne's bagels as I was running some errands the day before a weekend camping trip. Wayne's is a fairly small location, but they make their bagels in their bakery on-site. The bagels are made fresh daily in a large range of flavors. These aren't your super market variety- huge, bready, full of preservatives kind of bagel. They are fresh, Montreal style (slightly dense, with a bit of a sour flavor). I don't think I'll buy a bagel in a Calgary grocery store ever again! I didn't stay to eat, but it looked like they had several sandwich and toasted bagel options. There are only ~3 small tables available for dine-in though. They have great deals for day-old bagels. I was able to just get 1/2 a dozen for $3... And they threw in 2 additional fresh bagels for free! It made an awesome, quick, no-cleanup camping breakfast: bagels, (lightly toasted on the grill) with lox. Delish! read more

I continually go to Wayne's for my bagels. They are so good and I love all the sesame seeds. They are piled on. This is my second review on Wayne's. Since I've been going they have cleaned the place up a bit so I have given it an extra star. They are always friendly. But this place is in serious need of a renovation. read more

As I understand it Wayne's Bagels used to owned by Wayne & Helen Kim, now it is under new management and has moved from it's amazing location in Kensington to 104-4515 MacLeod Trail Southwest. Since the Change in ownership and change in location their quality of Bagels have unfortunately also changed. I have been to their new location half a dozen times, but haven't been in awhile as the quality I remember just isn't there anymore.
