Authentic & Amazing! Finally stopped in last night to try these out. I was so surprised that these actually are authentic Montreal bagels and so dang good. The flavour! That chew! ! Exactly like St-Viateur!! Ignore the negative reviews about stale or misshapen...those are posted by people who don't understand what a Montreal bagel is. Now all they need is to add Lafleur or Pappy's Cretons to the menu. read more

I ordered the smoked salmon bagel today off of DoorDash and it almost killed me. The smoked salmon was full of bones, one of which I nearly choked on. My first order from them and my last. When you spend over $16 on a bagel you'd expect some care to be taken. Shame on you as a restaurant. The price point to the quality of food is minimal. read more

Enjoyed these bagels, classic Montreal style that I prefer in my bagels. I would have bought more if they had a debit/visa machine. While I get why smaller businesses prefer cash only, current covid times have limited how many cash interactions we encounter, so going to get cash just for bagels isn't a priority. read more

Okay so the staff was very nice so I almost feel bad writing this but this place is garbage. I think the sign saying "baked in our wood burning oven" almost leads you to believe that they actually make in bagels in house. There's no way these are baked in house or even bought fresh daily. I had 2 and both were kind of hard and stale. If you enjoy 5 tablespoons of cream cheese on your bagel then you'd like this place. Absolute trash. I eat at Bagelinos on 7th st on a regular basis and they actually make their bagels fresh every morning and you can definitely taste the difference. Hard pass! read more

These are exactly like the bagels I used to get on St Viatur growing up in Montreal, not like the bread shaped like a doughnut that you often get in Calgary. I usually get a dozen of whatever is right out of the oven. So good. Maybe I don't get it. Are Montreal bagels supposed to have thin dough with a huge hole in the middle, inconsistently shaped and cooked? Some are dark brown others are pale. Most of the seeds fell off on the display case. Some are so thin they resemble a baked pretzel. Others look like someone pinched them into shape unsuccessfully. Out of the dozen I had I'd say 3 resemble a bagel I'd expect. At $1.50 each from a specialty store they had better be the best bagel I've ever had, every time. But they're not. Staff were pleasant. The West Hillhurst space looked dark, sparse and uncomplimentary to a food establishment. They could learn a lot from Cobbs Bakeries. I want to support small business but sorry guys, first impressions matter. I won't be back. read more

Anyone who gives these bagels a bad review doesn't understand what a Montreal bagel is all about. These are about as close as you'll get to the real deal this far from St. Viateur St. in Montreal. Was told about this place by friends who moved here recently from Montreal, who reported the bagels were excellent, and reminded them of the places mentioned in Arthur W's review. Was a little discouraged by Brandy C's review, but thought I'd try them anyway. I visited mid-day, and I didn't see the ovens in operation, but the bagels I purchased (regular and sesame seed coated) were warm and fresh - crisp outside and tender on the inside - not exactly the same, but certainly reminiscent of my Montreal experience. Located just at the end of Kensington Rd where it merges on to Parkdale Blvd (Memorial Dr) in a non-descript strip mall, St. Lawrence Bagels claimed to make Montreal style bagels. So just before my massage therapist appointment, I stopped in and told the baker that I was from Montreal and bought home to Calgary, Fairmont and St. Viateur bagels just last week. (for those in the know, these two spots on the Plateau between Park Ave and St. Laurent St. are THE BAGEL spots in Montreal). Anyway, bought a plain and a sesame seed bagel for $1.25 each. They looked the right size, and the brick wood fired oven looked right. One bite, and with the cashier and baker waiting with baited breath, I chewed and I chewed, the soft flavourful bagel, with the hint of sweetness from being dipped in honey water (just like the ones in Montreal). Ahhhh! Maybe not 100% perfect, but as close as I've ever seen outside of Montreal for a Montreal style bagel. Will definitely be back for a few more and can get my daughter to quit calling me to bring back bagels on the plane - she can drive 15 minutes to get a taste of Montreal. Well done. read more

DO NOT SPENT YOUR MONEY HERE! I've given St. Lawrence tons of business over the last 3 years. When I was in the hospital after brain surgery, I always picked up 2 dozen bagels and Winnipeg cream cheese for all of the nurses and doctors. I will never come here again. I ordered a lox sesame seed bagel and a smoked meat bagel. I asked for the lox to be warm, and they said it was no problem. When a dozen bagels is 10$, first of all you shouldn't be paying 20$ for 2. The bagels came out, and the lox was freezing cold. She then proceeded to throw the lox in the microwave and put raw onion and tomato on top, even though we asked for no tomato. Then, I pulled out a long black hair (my hair is brown/blonde) out of the smoked meat sandwich. I brought it back and the girl working took the hair in a napkin, and the owner asked what I'd like to be done and I said I'd like a refund. As soon as I brought it in, the guy had a smile on his face and as soon as I said something he started laughing at me. Told me he wouldn't give me a refund because it "wasn't their hair" even though he NEVER actually looked at the hair!! Told me that he'd make me a new one, which I obviously didn't want as I completely lost my appetite having to fish someone else's hair out of my sandwich. To top it all off, they only take cash because the owner is too cheap to pay the 1.5% to take credit cards or debit. I've been a loyal customer to this place for years, and I'm completely disappointed. You should NEVER be laughed at when bringing up a real concern, and there were issues with everything we ordered. Stay away from this place. Hair in my food and owner laughing at me saying it's not their hair without even looking at it and refusing to issue a refund. The guy is obviously incredibly cheap. read more

Wonderful true Montreal-style bagels in NW Calgary finally! Beautifully wood-fire baked and very tasty. Very friendly owners and only $10 for a dozen! Its new and still basic, but check out this place because the bagels won't disappoint! read more

Authentic bagels made with honey and baked in a brick oven. Not perfect when measured against the St Viateur product from Montreal (where the baker trained), but very good. If you prefer your bagels without a firm crust then ask the server to pick out less cooked or less browned ones. read more
