The burger patties were missing seasoning or salt. The bacon and sauces on the burger helped a little bit. However, for $7.99, I expected a bit more. The fries were freshly made and good. The thickness was similar to Wendy's fries. My son's kids cheeseburger, fries and a drink for $5.79 was a decent value. Wow, what a find! We were on our way to Socal, and originally hoping for in and out, but saw this burger joint instead as we were pulling in to the gas station. The photos on yelp looked superbs... I have to admit who ever took the onion rings photos with the variety of sauces was AWESOME! thanks! Not your typical fast food stop. My kiddo and I were headed home from San Diego last weekend and popped in here for "Brunch". I looks at the Yelp reviews (duh) and saw that this place was pretty new and the reviews looked good so far. I'm just so tired of the typical fast food pit stop and this place looked pretty good so we decided to check it out. First of all, it's new so everything looked fresh and just out of the box. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door by the super friendly young man behind the counter. He graciously went over the menu with us as we looked it over. They have burgers, fries, chicken burgers, hot dogs and Milkshakes. All the signature burgers come with 2 patties. My daughter got the chicken strips (even at 25 she still eats like a kid) and a chocolate milkshake. I got the rodeo burger (I think that's what it was called) and some water. After we placed our order we grabbed a seat next to the window so we could people watch. We soon discovered this wasn't a good idea because the flies were disgusting. Not sure why but they were buzzing around a several were dead on the sil. Needless to say we picked up and moved to another seat not near the window. It wasn't long before the chocolate milkshake came out. It's served in a classic metal milkshake mug/container. She ordered the small so the vessel was way to large for her small portion but it was still tasty. Chicken Strips - Super hot and just "okay" said. The ranch dippy sauce past her taste test and she's pretty picky. Rodeo Burger - tasty, and not to greasy but as you can see from my pic, the patty was much to small for the bun. Big difference between my picture and the corporate photos. But then again, aren't they always? The onion ring was tasty and cooked well and the bun stood up to all the added catsup, cheese and burger drippings. Over all, I would prefer this to any of the fast food options along the way. Walked in with high hopes after looking at their website and asking for something called a pitstop, which seems to have some sort of pastrami on it, but they don't have pastrami. They were ready to replace it with bacon and I appreciate the effort. However, then they tell me the cheese is not shredded as in the picture on their menu it's actually poured on melted cheese. This is a great alternative to the typical fast food joints you pass all along the 5. They have an impressive menu of burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs, fries, shakes, and even salads. We ordered two classic burgers, one single and one double, and a side of chili cheese fries. All of it was fresh and tasty! I would say opt for the double meat, double cheese, as the patties are relatively thin, but the flavor is on point. I liked the chili on the cheese fries, it had a more tomato-ey base. While driving from LA to SF, wife needed a bite that works for her diet. I needed to get gas. We found this Wayback burger next to a gas station. I liked that they provided a calorie count for all menu items, as well as had healthier options, including veggie burgers. The service was friendly and the order arrived fairly quickly. Wife felt this was one of the better healthier burger chains, several notches above the McDonalds and their ilk. Tables and the restaurant seemed fairly queen for a joint by a gas station on a 100+ day. Great put stop while heading to Los Angeles area. The cashier was very friendly and helped take our order after struggling to order through the kiosks. It was very easy to use but I didn't see the menu item I wanted there. Anyways our burgers were fresh and juicy. Tots were crunchy and a little unsalted but I like that. Shakes were a good consistency. The staff there was very friendly. There is limited seating inside but we showed up around 8 and it was perfect. The Location I haven't been out to Panoche for quite a few years now, and when I arrived, I was surprised to see this Burger Place. We have all seen those sandwich chains inside of Gas Stations, but this was something different. I must admit, the location is probably at sometimes, great on weekends because of the travelers along Interstate 5. Then I realized how close it was to Oro Loma and imagine, that a lot of workers probably stop here for lunch during the day. The Service When we walked into the restaurant and looked at the menu, we were looking trying to figure out what to order. The lady that took our order could have been a little friendlier or at least happy to see customers. She didn't bother to ask us anything about the way we wanted our order. I even walked away without getting my cups and she didn't even bother to remind me. When the burgers were done, the another person from behind the counter came and delivered them to our table, which was great. I went over after we were done to ask for a bag and saw how amazing the grill looked with all the meat on it being cooked. I asked the chef if I could take a picture and he said sure. The Atmosphere The restaurant was nice, it had a diner look and feel to it. They even had bottles of ketchup on every table. And if you need extra mustard, they have bottles of those too by the soda fountain. They have televisions which kept my son occupied as he watched one of his favorite movies. The Negatives I myself am a Veteran and do Honor our Nation and the Flag. I didn't like that the flag was sitting outside the door next to the trash can. I don't see why they haven't just hung it up somewhere. The girl behind the counter was the other piece but I imagine, she was probably just having a bad day or was not looking forward to the shift to start. Overall I enjoyed the trip out to Wayback Burgers and the food was good. The pictures look a little bigger than the actual food, but the taste was right on. Got the classic with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and wayback gold sauce with french fries, kids grilled cheese, tator tots, and an Oreo shake. On a trip to meet a family member at Harris Ranch for something this weekend, we decided to skip the very expensive food at Harris Ranch and head back north a bit to Wayback Burgers, which we had seen while getting gas. It's connected to the Mobil gas station. While this could be off putting for some, I've been surprised in the past with gas stations occasionally having great food in them. Also, the place was crowded, and that's usually a good sign. You order at the counter, either choosing their regular menu items or by building your own. You can get very specific with the build your own and anything goes. I ordered the Chipotle burger and onion rings. The burgers are clearly made fresh to order, the patties are almost crumbling because you can tell they were hand mixed and there was a good 10-12 minute wait for the order, which came delivered to the table by someone. The burger was honestly amazing. Maybe it was partially because I was starving by then, but honestly, it was great. And the onion rings were some of the best I've ever had. They also have homemade chips, which looked yummy. I tried my sons fries and they were decent, but not spectacular. He had the kids cheeseburger and though he complained about the burger not looking as generic as a McDonalds cheeseburger, he ate every bite. They were also playing my all time favorite childhood movie turned my sons favorite movie, The Never Ending Story, On two TV's. What are the odds!? Also, my sons name is Jacob (Jake), and the original restaurant was called Jake's Hamburgers. It's like this place was meant for us to find. We ordered on-line for pickup. This save time to get back on the road quick! It is next to a gas station with no lines. Great for a restroom stop and to load up on snacks and drinks. Was stopping by this area to get gas as we were driving back from our long trip from LA area. We decided to get dinners at this place opposed to McDonalds across the street because it had some pretty decent reviews (not to mention the smell was amazing from outside the gas station). Immediately entering, we noticed they sell quite a variety of food: from tater tots, to burgers, to milkshakes, to chicken tenders. I ordered a cinnamon toast crunch milkshake alongside some chicken tenders and fries. The milkshake was actually pretty good and nostalgic of my childhood eating cereal. Customer service was super helpful and helped described all the different types of sauces they had. They even packaged our sauces in togo boxes!
