The salon itself is beautiful...very artsy, chic, and full of positive energy. What stood out to me most was how well everyone worked together. You can tell this is a team that truly enjoys what they do and supports one another, which made the whole experience feel so genuine. I was referred to Mayko after seeing the amazing job he did on my nurse's hair, and I knew I had to book an appointment with him. It ended up being one of the best decisions I've made. I was beyond impressed. My hair had previous damage, and after speaking with other stylists who seemed nervous to even touch it, Mayko came in with confidence and completely put me at ease. So I asked if I still had my appointment, he said "Oh yeah," then said he'd help me in a little. He came and grabbed me finally, then immediately started accosting me about how it's my fault I didn't walk over to him. I don't live here, I don't know who he is so how could I? He continued to accost me the whole cut, lecturing me how it's my fault I had to wait, he even said he saw me in there. 3-5 minutes into the cut he asked if I wanted product. I was so confused, he hadn't done anything I wanted so I asked "are you done?" He said yes, so I repeated what I wanted, then he told me no, he wasn't going to do that and then continued doing what I didn't want for 15 more seconds, then asked how I wanted to pay. My hair is so uneven and is completely fucked up. It's so uneven and he missed parts of my hair... He also works at Scotch and Scissors apparently and tried to get me to go there and told me it'd be $65 there instead of $45 at Village 9. $65 for a 3 minute cut while getting accosted and told he wouldn't cut my hair like I asked? This man is a criminal. I really wish one of the nice ladies at Village 9 would've responded to my inquiry for a cut, they would've been head and shoulders above him.

His hair doesn't get washed or styled (he usually heads home to the shower anyways). He is covered in chopped hair when he leaves. What matters most to me is my teenage boy feels confident with himself.

I cannot say enough about Sonia at Waves Salon in Ashburn. I have been a loyal client for 11 years. I used to dislike my hair, that is, until I started seeing Sonia. I have naturally curly, thick hair and Sonia has expertly snipped and shaped it into hair I have LOVED for the past 11 years. She knows how to cut curly hair, she knows what does and does not work with curly hair, and it shows. I have had countless compliments and requests for my stylist's name over the years. She has brought me through so many amazing styles; long, short, dark, light and everything in between and I have loved them all! She always listens and will always help me to modify a style to work with my hair and face making each and every cut an EASE to style! Her color is fantastic too! Sonia has been the "boss of my hair", as I call her, for probably 10 years. She has always made my hair look wonderful, even through changing styles. She always has the best suggestions and truly listens to me. I finally decided to ask her about coloring my hair to hide the pesky grays. After having listened to my friends talk about having their hair colored and it never be quite right, I was very nervous... My hair is a million shades of blonde and I was afraid it might look unnaturally flat or just not me. I even did it right before a trip out of town.. eek! However, I will say it was perfect!!!!! She got rid of all the gray and made it look like my hair! I honestly can't say enough positive about her - on top of it all, she is one of the sweetest people I have known. I LOVE Waves Salon. I can't rate it highly enough. It's by far my favorite salon I've ever been to. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant. It's decorated beautifully and with plenty of space and light. The staff all seem like they love their jobs. It's everything you would want in a salon. I have spent my whole life bouncing between stylists. My hair is fairly long and curly, and I want to be able to wear it either naturally or blow dried. For some reason no one could make it look good. Since finding Maddy, I have started to love my hair. She takes plenty of time to listen to me and what I want from my hair. I always leave the salon feeling like a model in a commercial--perfect bouncy, shiny waves and feeling like a million bucks. I get compliments on my hair all the time thanks to Maddy. read more

I have been going to Amera now for over a year and I LOVE my hair every time I leave. I have blonde hair so I am pretty picky but she always gets it right. Highlighs, low lights, cut, you name it, we've tried it. She also just did my hair for my wedding and it was amazing. I received compliments all night! She did a beautiful romantic up-do and listened to me the whole time to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. Do not listen to the ONE bad review...there is NO way that story is accurate because Amera does her best to make sure all of her customers are happy. I know several other girls who go to Amera regularly and have never had one bad thing to say about her or her work. read more

I have followed my stylist Sonya everywhere... I have very fine hair and Sonya knows how to be gentle, not every stylist understands how to maintain your hair's integrity... My hair is always treated respectfully (i.e. not bleached out). I moved several years ago and b/c of the distance I tried out a new salon closer to my house... it was a disaster as my hair got completed fried!!!! It was horrible and my hair looked like crap - it took over a year to grow out - very sad! So now I commute from Arlington to get highlight/cuts. I was referred to Amera by some neighbors when I moved to the area and she is great! My hair can be very frizzy and colicky, and very few stylists are able to make a cut work, but she does. She is able to blow dry and style my hair perfectly every time. She has done it straight and curly for me, I wish she could come over every morning. I also have her color my hair, and she does a great job. I am not one to make a whole lot of changes in regards to my hair, but she recently suggested to add some lighter highlights in my hair to make it "pop", and it's awesome! Sonia is absolutely wonderful. I have very thin hair, straight and fine hair. I have searched and searched for solutions I even have put my hair through the torture of a weave (which left me with a migraine and money down the drain). Then I found Sonia! She took the time to consult with me and advised me what extensions and most importantly the method that would be best for my hair. So today I took the leap and got my hair extensions. I have been going to Sonia for 11 years. If I were rich I would put her on retainer like an attorney for whenever I needed fabulous hair in between my regular appointments. She is just extraordinary! My hair stylist just moved to this salon, so I just went here for the first time a few weeks ago. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and made you feel like you were a friend and not just a customer. The salon has a great design (love the coffee and snack corner!) very modern and stylish without feeling too fancy. Most importantly I loved my cut and highlights!
