Gull Inn is now one of Waves motel properties. VERY DISAPPOINTING. I've stayed here in the past 5 times in the past 10 years, but this time, awful. I feel like I'm staying in a youth hostel. The rooms are still nice, affording beautiful ocean views if on 2nd floor and above. However, you get 2 sets of towels in a double queen room. There is no place to hang wet bathing suits. Ok, outside, downstairs on clothes line in the back. I'm on vacation! There are no amenities in the main living room. We had to call for coffee, creamer, trash removal. Again, I'm on vacation. Beautiful coffee table looks like it has never been cleaned, glass filthy, and crumbs in crevices. Fridge has food in it, 3 months old. Bread sitting on top is moldy. Used to be, there were 2 property caretakers on-site for all questions and help. They were there 24/7 for convenience. Since there are no coffee makers in the room, you must go to the main room,, which is and expected...but now you must call the Waves lobby or walk 2 blocks to get anything. I want my coffee at 6am, and I don't want to get dressed when something is missing, or asked if I need liquid creamer ASAP, or later, when cleaning crew is here. Waves bought a beautiful property, but they have not taken care of it, nor is it the experience of the recent past. Not worth the premium you pay. read more

We were in building B, second floor. Room 22. Stayed in august - over $315/night. Cons: small room. Sound does carry from room to room. People beneath us were arguing and we could hear it, as well as their crying baby. Anytime someone opened or shut their sliding door, we could hear it rumble. Anyone on their balcony, can also hear them - even with our doors shut and ac running. Smell of smoke from the smokers made it unpleasant to sit outside on balcony. Train horn goes off (loudly) at least 3x in the middle of the night. Loud squeaking noise throughout the day and night coming from the bathroom. Toilet does not flush well and light in bathroom brightens and dims randomly. Pool and hot tub always packed with people. Pros: Ac works in the room which is nice! Water does get hot when showering. Bed is soft and there are lots of pillows. Carpet and couch in the took appear clean. Small refrigerator that keeps food cold. Easy walk to beach and pier. Simple check in process. Easy parking. Blackout curtains. USB outlet for cellphone cords. Good size tv in room. read more

Room was pretty spacious for 2 people. We had a large screen TV--about 50 inches,a bathroom, and a kitchen. We did have to go up a long flight of stairs to get to our room though, so if you have bad knees, then it's something to watch out for. However, we were not too far from the beach, actually right across the street, which was awesome! We were able to watch the sunrise AND sunset and go back to our room, which was just a few steps away. There is also complimentary coffee in the morning, which is awesome! However, the room definitely needs an update. The sheets I slept on felt like it hadn't been washed for quite some time(ew). And the room just looked dingy. I guess that's what you get for the price though. I'd recomend this place if you're looking for a spacious room, that's pretty close to the beach and you wouldn't mind an 80s era bed set. read more

Super bad for these reasons A door lock that could probably be easily broken. Decor from 1978, and I mean everything in our room. Train woke us up 3 times in the night. No microwave in suite as advertised - you have to have a guy bring one up. It's over 250/nite for all this. read more

Waves was exactly what I needed for my local, COVID vacation! I arrived in OOB 2 hours before check in, not expecting the room ready given it was Labor Day but they kindly let me stay parked at their facility until my room was ready, saving me $10-20 to go to a parking lot while I grabbed lunch. About 30 min later the called my cell to tell me the room was ready! Everyone was very friendly, wore masks, had clean pens, and sanitizer around. The room itself is what you would expect for a motel- not glamorous with some hard water stains, a bit of wear and tear, but it was clean and was nice to have a fridge and coffee/tea service. Also, it was a 2 bed and had 2 tvs given they were separated by the bathroom area. I selected a room with an ocean view, and it was awesome! I sat on the patio and enjoyed at night, and had this view in the morning!! (note, the second bed was too far for the view, but good for someone sleeping in.) I loved that they had adult swim hours (8 pm-10pm). During the day it was nice to see the pool and hot tub filled with families. In the morning I enjoyed an early sunrise walk on the beach, and again, they had no problem with me staying parked there a couple of extra hours. Don't expect this, though, it may have been because it was a quiet day, but the point being they will accommodate you and try to make your stay as nice as possible! read more

It's a place to sleep. Given the condition of everything it's not a place to enjoy your stay, you enjoy your stay at he beach andnin the village and otherwise never be there. Room service, forget it. We reserved two rooms One for two adults and two children another for an adult and a teen. Never got any fresh towels, garbage emptied or room swept. There are no rinse stations so all the sand will be brought in and floating around as they don't clean rooms. Tub drain is pathetic, water just stands there and shower hads are so tiny. I wouldn't call it a resort really, more like a basic "ok" motel with laundromat. Also pretty costly, for what you get. Four people room didn't have four towels. And only one set of toiletries for 4 people. Queen beds are crammed into small places, for a queen size bed my husband had no night stand and no room to get off the bed on his side he had to get off the other side of the bed, it's just inconvenient and not what we thought we were paying for. Barely a room to turn around in the bathroom or anywhere for that matter. Add a duffle bag for each person plus a bag of personal items and you are tripping over everything. I am a size M person just for the reference. So for a larger of heavier person this could be a problem of basic abikity to comfortably function. The railing on the balcony was dirty, the paint chipping off on the tables. We paid over $360 a night in the off season. One would think that they would find a way to make your experience a little better. They did though made sure you had a bible by your bedside, Oh FFS! read more

The boyfriend and I stayed for two nights this past weekend in the "off season". Great price for a beach front hotel, just a short walk from the heart of OOB. The rooms are a bit small and outdated, but it was clean and just what we needed for our stay. We didn't spend much time actually in the room anyway. The salt water pool and hot tub was very nice, although yes it was packed with children which surprised me for off season but I can't really complain about that. We came back down to the pool area during the "adult time" from 9-10pm and it was better. We were promptly kicked out by staff a few minutes before 10pm. Every interaction I had with the front desk staff was pleasant. There is an ice machine in one of the many buildings of the hotel, which was kind of a pain to get to when you're staying in a different building. I'd suggest putting an ice machine in each of the buildings. I also believe that each room has a patio, ours certainly did which was nice. I will also mention that no one came in and cleaned the room during our stay or replenished the shampoo/soap stuffs. The air conditioner worked great, thank God :) No complimentary breakfast, but there are a lot of restaurants within walking distance. It was a nice stay and I would come back. read more

I've stayed at this hotel before during the summer and paid a high price of $179 a night, but if you go after Labor Day, the prices drop by about 100 a night so you can get a nice bargain after the season. I decided to go back up here in mid September with the weather in the high 80's and sunny. This motel is very close to the beach which makes it worth staying at. The only thing to keep in mind is many of the restaurants within walking distance after Labor Day are closed so there are a lot less options available to eat at. There are places to eat in the next town over in Saco, ME. However, the beach is accessible as always no matter what season it is and the experience should be similar to the summer experience if the weather is right. With less people that might be a good thing. Now to comment on the actual hotel itself, it's pretty much ordinary with nothing particularly impressive about them. The summer prices are high, (prices after Labor Day are much better), the TVs are completely outdated, they not only have mostly basic stations but the TVs aren't even flat screens or hi-def. They are still the old fashioned boxed TVs and for the high summer prices, that seems pretty unreasonable and they don't even cater breakfast which a lot of hotels do. They do have a pool that you can go in to but the pool is small and the hot tub is almost always occupied. The only reason I have stayed at this motel is for the beautiful beach location. I would give 4 stars for the beach experience, 2 for the hotel so my final rating will balance to 3 stars. read more

Talk about a bunch of crooks!! I was in OOB for a long weekend with friends. We rented a side by side bike from waves bike rental. We paid the 1 hour rate($15/hr) and said we'd be back in an hour. The person working said "don't worry about the hour time limit. Take it for a while". When we brought the bike back 4 hours later we were hit with a charge of $75. I told the man at the desk that the guy who rented the bike to us said to take the bike for a few hours at the first-hour rate! He didn't even respond!! I would not recommend going to this hotel, if they cheat bike rental customers like that I can't imagine how they treat people who stay at their hotel! read more

Crooks! A story similar to the bike story already on here. Occasionally in these summer hotel towns the hotels will sell some of their furniture and room fixtures, as they renovate. It's usually a good way to get decent home goods for a good price. This place was selling all sorts of stuff, including some refrigerators, one of which I bought at a pretty good price. Well, I got home, loaded it in and it doesn't work. So, I load the refrigerator back up, drive all the way back to OOB and talk to John, who is apparently in charge of selling these fixtures. He tells me, "Oh, you got one of the bad ones. Most of them are fine." Apparently he knew some of them were broken. So I go to dig for a working one. Nope- all broken. Not to mention John is apparently selling them still, and didn't respond when I asked if the buyer knew they were all broken. After having to wait around for John to reappear, and being told by the lobby staff that they couldn't refund me (rather rudely) he reappears to sourly give me my money back, with a curt apology and again no response when asked if their new owners knew they were all broken. Wasted hours of my time, selling broken goods under the guise that they're working, and giving me a hard time when I point out their crookedness. Haven't stayed here- it's a good thing, because if their hotel business and how they treat out-of-towners is anything how they treat their neighbors, it'd be two-faced and rude. read more

I've been here since Monday and they haven't Cleaned the room once !!! Only left towels but took the 5 dollar tip I left for my room to be cleaned !!! For 180 a night I expect my room to be cleaned with new sheets !! The rooms are very old and in Desperate need of remodeling so I can definitely say I will never stay here Again... This is a great motel at a great price. The location can't be beat- just a few steps to one of Maine's best beaches. My husband and I were in town for a wedding- we stayed Friday through Monday. Every interaction with the front desk staff was pleasant and helpful. We arrived around 8pm on Friday evening, checked in quickly, and were provided with ample information about the motel and its policies. The pool/hot tub area that overlooked the ocean was open until 9pm with extended hours until 10pm for 18+. Note, the "18+" policy was not enforced. It is still technically "low season" and therefore the resort wasn't too busy, so the handful of teenagers who remained in the pool area after 9pm were well behaved enough that this was not a problem for us personally. The bed and bedding were clean and comfortable, and the AC in the room worked well. We stayed in building "D" on the second floor in room #40, which was categorized as a "partial ocean view". Our view of the ocean was obscured only by several small cottages, and you could see the ocean waves rolling in as well as a gorgeous sunrise every morning. The kitchenette had everything you might need to prepare a simple breakfast or reheat leftovers. The decorations were somewhat dated, but the TV was a large flat screen and nothing in the room was overly worn or dirty. Everything smelled fresh and clean. Tips: Breakfast is not served as part of the motel rate, but there are numerous restaurants within a short walking distance to suit any appetite. There is an ice machine available in the ground floor of one of the buildings, ask the front desk for details. Is this a brand new resort with cutting edge amenities? No- but for the price I think its a great value, and I can't wait to stay again in the future. read more

This place is adorable! The beach is literally a 2 minute walk, & they have an outdoor pool as well if you don't like swimming in the ocean. Everything is in walking distance and it's great that the Amtrack station is just over on the street parallel to the hotel - super convenient for people who don't drive! The room wasn't anything fancy but it WAS more than I expected it to be. The only downside with the room was the bathroom (it was pretty small) & they no longer have smoking rooms, but really - that wasn't an issue at all. The room was spacious, with a small "kitchenette" including a sink, microwave, fridge, and small counter which was excellent for bringing home leftovers from dinner on the pier. The staff members were amazing - we have a medical condition that involves equipment that absolutely CANNOT be out in the bad weather. It was raining the weekend we visited and the hotel staff was more than happy to take our medical equipment AND our luggage and hold it in their office until our room was ready when we first arrived and until we had to walk over to the train (at check-out). I cannot thank them enough for being as kind and accommodating as they were. We have already talked about going back to this hotel because we had such a great experience and it is in a great, convenient location that fits every single one of our needs. I was looking for a two bedroom, quiet beach front hotel room with a kitchen. I called several places on Old Orchard beach and the gentleman from the hotel assured me his hotel met all my needs. I specificly asked if our room over looked the parking lot, his response was, no. Jokes on us. What we booked was a two room, but one room was the bathroom. The kitchen was a sink, two burners, and a dorm refrigerator, no stove, or even a microwave. There were two beds, but the room was so small the only table is out on the balcony. And yes the balcony over looked the parking lot. The only good part was it was just on the other side of the dunes from the beach, which is why we are here anyway! ( the beach location was why I gave them an extra star). read more

We stayed in one of the little cottages on King Street named Ponce. The floors were disgusting. We had to wear our shoes the whole time or our feet turned black. The kitchen is completely outdated. The living room furniture was so dirty it was hard to sit on. The front porch is small but nice, though the view is a "chicken-coup" looking building. You can't see the ocean from the porch. The ocean is a very short walk away which is great. The maids did bring clean towels every morning and were friendly. I didn't go into the lobby or the hotel so I can't comment on that. The pool and hot tub are really nice. The little cottage could be adorable if it was updated a little and cleaned a lot. read more

So it isn't super modern but I wasn't planning on adding the hotel to my real estate investment so I don't care how modern it is. It is clean, convenient, great staff, comfortable beds, warm pool, on the beach with a great view. The only negative I would say is the parking is bad-like sardine can parking (but the attendant is out there at night to assist people), and the climb up and down all those stairs was hard for my 75 year old mother. The check in process was easy and we arrived early so the staff checked us in early and called when the room was ready. I am very happy with our stay there and from chatting with others in the hot tub, that was the general consensus. read more

I took my family to OOB for the long Fourth of July weekend this year. I can not begin to express my satisfaction and at times find myself highly impressed with the facilities management. The location is ideal. Steps from the beach, close to the Pier and other shops and attractions. That's if you find that you have to leave the resort. Lafayette had thought of everything from a breakfast spot to a convince store. Staff is everywhere, Grounds are cared for meticulously, Security can be seen at night patrolling the grounds. Noise during the day can be much at the pool, but that is expected. At night, the noise is bet controlled. My family will be returning. read more

Complaint Details My first trip was scheduled July 6th for a week. I arrived and checked Into rm 62...I was disgusted on how filthy it was!!! The floors turned my daughters feet black within a matter of minutes, there were dirty hand and feet prints on the wall, the fridge wasn't working, along the desk there was all sorts of ashes and filth and then my 16 yo went to take a shower and complained the water went from extreme hot to ice cold...I went to give my 5 year old a shower and same scenario. Almost scalding hot to ice cold!!!! Also the slider to the outside was broken. We were then moved to rm 8 which we had no complaints. We had to cut our vacation short because my step father who is battling brain cancer had to go in for emergency surgery they did not think he would make the weekend. After the surgery and my step father was recovering i rescheduled my trip for july 14-20th and stayed in room 12. I left a day early. I checked in and went to my room. I went to open up the sliders and I was appalled. The curtains were all stained which looked like blood, the other curtain was held together by safey pins and the balcony was all rotten, had all sorts of broken boards, nails sticking up and unsafe! We easily could have caught our bare feet on a nail and tore our foot open. So they ended up screwing down some concrete board on top of it to bandaid the issue. One of the chairs on our balcony stained my husbands back and even after wiping it down it ruined 2 of his shirts. There was black mold all around the bathtub and the ac unit was very loud, kept me up most of the night and eventually i had to turn it off so i could sleep and then it got super warm in the room. The glass slider also would not shut fully. I had made many people aware of the issues at the hotel and they were always shrugged off so i just got sick of it and just stopped mentioning it and continued my vacation extremely unhappy with my accommodations. When you spend $210 a night you expect much better. The manager as i was checking out literally said to me that they just band-aid all the issues. The bathrooms and kitchens are extremely outdated, carpets are so nasty they turn your feet black, I have stayed at motel 6 which was nicer. The only nice part was the updated pool and spa...rest of it was horrible. When Trista our housekeeper was there..she was wonderful, whomever was filling in for her was lazy, she wouldn't make the bed if my daughters stuffed animal was on it, she didn't hang our towels she would just plop them in a pile on my bed, she never switched out the dish clothe or anything. Trista even went above and beyond and even put clean dishes on the counter away. She was a hard worker and should be recognized as such. I do have pictures and video tape of all my complaints. I tried to contact lafayette properties directly but as they do with anything else, they shrug it off...not even a note of apology. I spend over $1700 to stay in lower standard accommodations. That is not right!! All pictures and videos were submitted to the owners and no response at all and it has been well over a week. read more

My husband and I have stayed here plenty of times, it was recommended by family. Well our last visit was the worst. We just drove up and was going with the flow. And we stopped in to see if they had any vacancy and they said only for one night. So we just said ok to one night and when we were hanging around oob the next day their vacancy sign was still lit up. Never mind there was a party going on above our head until 1am and nothing was done. I did call the desk and let them know. Nothing was done. I know it was a out on a whim trip I don't expect perfect but it was awful. No care for guests. I understand people are on vacation and are going to be loud but they were dragging furniture around the room above us and then I try and open the slider and they were having spitting contests being very loud. Had to close it couldn't keep open. Won't be back there is plenty of other options and I will be trying something else out next time! read more

Just got back from a long weekend at the Waves, it was excellent. The room was spacious and clean. The staff was friendly and attentive. The outside grill area was great as well as the pool and hot tub. The access to the beach was great. Would definitely recommend this place and will definitely be staying again. read more
