I have had the pleasure of working with WaveLength for many years... When our daughter needed to take the SSAT for her applications for boarding school, we searched for the most professional and comprehensive tutoring available in Monmouth County. We are forever grateful in finding Matt and Marlee. They are both extraordinary. They offered group lessons as well as private lessons. With hard work and dedication, our daughter was able to achieve above 90% and she gained entrance to one of the top boarding schools in the country. They took away the fear of standardized testing. This summer, our son had decided that he wanted to jump a level in math. Due to his being in a boarding school, there was no class he could take. He would be home for the summer here in NJ and he has no access to teachers at back at school. They were happy to answer email, but he was essentially on his own. He was given over 300 word problems to do. He was given an answer sheet, with no explanation of the answers. After completing the first few pages, it became clear to Noah that he would need help. The SAT is one of the most important tests you can take in your pre-adult life. No matter what GPA you accumulate or extra curricular resume you may manage to piece together, there will always be the matter of your simple and undiscriminating SAT scores. It's just a number, and yet it's so much more than that. I'm a strong student; Matt and Dan never had to change my work ethic or teach me math and grammar. While I'm sure they could have revamped my entire understanding of the subjects, they did something even more impressive. My tutors took the knowledge and understanding that I already had and squeezed extra points out of it. By simply teaching my brain how to think about and approach problems, they molded me into a better test taker. The night before my second and final attempt at the SAT, I sat down with Matt and identified a critical error in my test taking. I knew how to solve any math problem they would give me, but I would time and time again make careless errors. That night we developed a new method for marking and checking problems, a method that on each section saved me one or two careless errors. This no doubt led to the 130 point rise in my math score. That night sitting with Matt in my living room, I knew we had arrived at something innovative for my test taking, and I never would have achieved an 800 without it. Matt knew my abilities better than I did and was able to address my weaknesses with amazing insight. Having worked with Wavelength for the past six months in their six week tutoring class and in private lessons, I can say that Wavelength completely changed my perspective on standardized testing and the college application process. Last year I managed to help a scientist crystallize a mitochondrial protein complex known as MTERF4-NSUN4, which plays a role in ribosome biogenesis in the mitochondria. This work led to a publication in the scientific journal Structure, in which I was named a co-author on the paper. When college decisions came back, my parents and I were ecstatic. Our 8th grade twin daughters took the SSAT Prep class in Middletown, with Andrea over the summer in preparation for high school entrance exams. Not only was Andrea very friendly, but she was also super knowledgeable and taught them some really nice strategies to do well on the exams. Our girls didn't really want to do a class in the summer, but in the end they enjoyed it and they were amazed with what they learned, and so were we. We also had a private lesson with the co-owner Matthew. The way he explains math is simply amazing! Our daughters felt well prepared for the tests. Both of them were accepted into Trinity High school (with a merit reward), Communications Vocational HS with really good scores, and SJV with acceptance to the AP academy. My experience with WaveLength Tutoring was very worthwhile. I chose to get help from Matt with the mathematics section of the SAT and saw a significant improvement in my score. With his help, I was able to raise my score from a 660 to a 760. He taught me how to look at problems differently and how to pull the necessary information from the clutter. Through WaveLength SAT preparation, I learned a lot. My math tutor, Matt, was a great tutor. A major lesson I learned was that no matter how difficult a problem may look, it could be simplified into a much easier problem.
