A duct, machine and a table lamp?
    Charlyann M.

Wow has this place gone downhill. I arrived to be told they were running 45 minutes behind schedule. The people in front of me have been waiting over an hour. So, I'm sure it will be longer. Why couldn't they message me and tell me about the delay so I could of waited at home or in my car! A full waiting room during a global pandemic. I've put off coming for two years for that exact reason. I'm sitting in a corner and they have a sign covering ducts and a broken lamp? A waste of an entire day off work.

I can't believe how no one is talking about the condition of the facility. While getting X-rays I looked around and saw what looked like portable a/cs being stored in the room, half the light covers on the lights were missing, there was literally duct tape on the curtains, paint splattered on the wall and chair... they gave me a step stool to use to get on the table and the thing was covered in paint and dirt like it had been in a broom closet for years, there was black residue on everything (you know when you peel tape off something and it's still sticky and dirt gathers on it after time) that was everywhere. I the dressing rooms had lockers to store your stuff in while you were having your X-ray done, but they only had the key for only 1 locker. Luckily I had that 1 locker, but it also meant my phone was locked away so I couldn't take any pictures beyond the dressing room. The people were nice but I felt like I needed a tetanus shot walking out of there. I immediately called my insurance and reported the cleanliness and condition of the facility.

I decided to leave a review on Yelp, since the link that was sent to me for a review did not work :( First of all, ALL of the staff that I encountered were very professional and efficient. With that being said, I waited for over an hour for a chest X-ray that took less than 60 seconds. The waiting room was so crowded, that I had to sit out in the foyer of the building.

See how close people are seated, and behind the door (out of view) is a homeless person ASLEEP!

It made me wonder would she treat a non-minority the same way she treated me. I understand they have their own limitations, but to be treated so nonchalantly with lack of compassion is the upsetting part. Are bedside manners nonexistent now? I understand people have their off days, but this was completely unacceptable. Maybe consider another field if helping people doesn't bring you any sense of fulfillment. I will be reaching out to speak with a manager if possible.

The wait wasn't long- maybe 10 min before I was beeped to window 2. The woman who helped me was very friendly, went through and asked me a few questions ( I did mention I had already answered those questions on their online preregistration but she said the "system wasn't a good one" ). This second check in process took a bit longer, mostly because the computer was quite slow and she apologized several times, but overall it wasn't exacting. Once checked in, I went to the 3rd desk and handed her the paperwork I was given from checkin #2 and sat down to wait to be called. I think I may have waited 5 min and was called back. The tech who escorted me to the imaging room was very friendly & efficient. She explained what would happen once we got in the room and the whole scan took maybe 5 min and she walked me back out front. I was very satisfied with how quickly the whole thing went and mostly by the pleasant and courteous staff members. Anytime a person is experiencing issues that require health care of any type, it is always so important to feel supported and treated kindly. I had been worried about long wait times, based on other reviews which is why I took an early appt. With the triple check in and the slow computers, I can see how things could get more and more backed up as the day goes on. I'm not sure if the imaging center is part of the purchase of Los Alamitos Hospital by UCI Health, and if so, hopefully they will be updating the computer system so it can run more quickly and efficiently ( especially silly to spend 20 min doing a pre-registration online when the imaging center doesn't have access to that info). These last comments are suggestions for the IT department and not to take away from the superb treatment & care I recieved today.

In my case, it took me over 2 hours because I had two concurrent exams inside the machine, so I was charged 6 dollars, but it's a small price to pay to save a life through the MRI. The facility itself wasn't bad, only there was one receptionist who seems to be annoyed working there, questioning me if I have an appointment. I arrived on the dot. After finding me, she doesn't even apologize but hands me the clipboard to fill out the information. My appointment was at 11:15. However I was able to go into the machine at around 12:20 PM. However, you are probably wondering why then, is this review still four yelp stars. Well, I'll tell you. The machine is as comfortable as they can make it, being lit with good airflow. However, I had to be inside the machine for 2 hours. Longer than normal as I need an examination of my cervical and lumbar region. However, the MRI machine is more claustrophobic than I thought. When doing my cervical exam, the ceiling was almost right up to my face. If it weren't for good air flow, I would've probably panicked. I closed my eyes throughout. Once they sent me deeper inside the machine to get my lumbar examined, the ceiling was only a tiny bit higher which made all the difference. I got used to being in the machine. However, I would like to thank LOURDES for being my technician. She made me feel very welcomed and at ease throughout the process. She was very reassuring, and the fact that she is the first person named Lourdes that I have met. Coincidentally, I prayed to our Lady of Lourdes in France a week before asking for some Lourdes water, which cures ailments. What are the coincidences that this technician was named Lourdes? She was also a pro at putting in the bolus of contrast, as I felt 0/10 pain. I didn't even feel the needle going in. She talked to me on the microphone every step of the way before it moved, which was reassuring. She is probably the BEST technician I've ever experienced. She should definitely be recognized for her efforts. Her bedside manner alone raises this facility from one star to four stars. It is incredible. Thanks to the MRI, I was able to get a quick diagnosis within 12 hours, even though she told me 2-3 days. I am able to quickly make an appointment with a surgeon in order to get to the bottom of my ailment.

We lack time to work with you to solve your logistical problems. Light rail may work for some outpatients. Most patients drive to your location or someone drives them. So, they need good directions. The pre-admitting interview person gave generic directions to the place and Google Maps were no help at all. Develop good directions and work with Apple, Garmin, and Google to add them. After a failed map search, by chance we called 562-933-1550 (radiology scheduling) and a very pleasant lady finally gave us correct directions: navigate to 403 E Columbia St., from Atlantic Blvd turn right onto Columbia St., drive past the lime-green Diagnostic Imaging building, turn right into side parking, and park in places labeled "for diagnostic imaging patients". Walk across the street and check in at the outpatient surgery center. Helpful! Please program the MyChart automated Epic system to send those directions. MyChart sent the address for the Long Beach Medical Center, a large complex covering several acres and with many entrances. After checking in, the experience was good. Nurses Priscilla and Delilah were very professional and helpful. The interventional radiology team was also great. I felt sorry for the tech who pushed my gurney from the pre-op area through several doors before reaching the interventional radiology room. None of the doors were set to open automatically. He used the gurney to brace the double doors open. Implement automatic doors before an accident happens. The strong, sticky tape that provides antibacterial barrier and holds patient's neck in one orientation for three days was more annoying than the procedure. Warn the patient about this. On removal, the tape ripped off about two square inches of skin. The abrasions and wounds create an entry for infection, so patient's medical team may delay the follow-on treatment until they heal. Talk to a surgeon, preferably a plastic surgeon, to identify a better tape.

Unfortunately, 2 days after visiting, my experience left me frustrated and scratching my head. My main complaint is I was prescribed fluoroquinolone antibiotics (Cipro) for a sting ray sting, without any mention about the well documented risks associated with lasting tendon rupture and collagen matrix disruption. It was only once I'd done my research that I had to call to see if we can switch. One of the PA's (Paula, also exceptional) took my call and even said she was glad that I caught that and did not understand why I was prescribed Cipro when there are much safer alternatives out there. When I had gone in, I was also given a steroid shot to help with inflammation and left in the room for some time. I started to get quite nauseous and felt close to fainting. I had to step outside and call for someone, just to be told "yeah this happens often, forgot to warn you" and "you beat me to checking in on you." What's worse is I came to find out combining fluoroquinolones with corticosteroids (steroid shots) have been documented to a FOURTEEN (14!) FOLD increased risk of tendinopathy and tendon rupture (D. Baggio, M.R. Andana-Rajah, 2021). Why on earth would you combine a fluoroquinolone and corticosteroids? If there are safer antibiotic steroids, why fluoroquinolone alone? The whole experience just feels medically untrained or professionally careless. I'm completely bewildered, and quite frustrated.
