While at the gym today, a very infirmed man had trouble and was in pain to the point of nearly fainting. I asked if he needed help since he could barely stand even with a walker. I looked around the Ground floor for help, but there was no one. I recommended that he press his emergency pendent, which he did. No one came. After five minutes, still no one came. More time passed. Still no one. I decided to go upstairs to the main desk to say someone needed help in the gym. They said they were aware of the emergency call but could not locate him. I then went downstairs and noticed a woman had finally arrived. However, she was rude, and ignored his request for a wheelchair, and began for forcefully push him backwards on his walker. When he mentioned his frustration about not being found after pushing the pendent, she just responded, "I'm here now." I said she arrived only because of me notifying the front desk, and she again slightly angrily repeated her statement. I was appalled at her attitude, but more importantly, her ignoring his request for a wheelchair, which he clearly needed. I went upstairs to reflect what I witnessed and to complain. I was then introduced to a manager. I said that I would hate to have my 84 year old mother treated this way if she had an emergency.

The upside of that is better quality in both food and service and programs. The residents are upscale and hip . The brunches pre Covid are amazing with unlimited mimosas even though my 93 year old mom never has more than one. My mom loves it there and that's the most important thing. From Albert who's like a personal concierge eager to help to Gaye and all the people in nursing to Jessica and others in food service are amazing. Peace of mind that's she's well taken care of.

Any time we came to visit, there was a happy buzz in the air. Not only is every single person on staff highly trained and always upbeat, but the facility is very pretty, nicely decorated and cozy, inside and out. Benchmark helped us get a speedy move-in date, and did everything they could to keep our mother, who was in memory care, busy and feeling loved. We were delighted by the constant array of events that were planned for the residents. One of our favorites was the Brazilian jazz lunch that had a huge live band a buffet to fit the theme. Many people got up to dance and all the residents were smiling. We noticed that all the staffers went out of their way to talk to all residents in the halls when passing by - always sharing a witty line to help the residents feel a part of a larger community. We feel it takes a special understanding of this community to do a great job and it comes from the top down. The company does a fine job on all levels. Highly recommended! Thank you again to all at Benchmark for taking great care of our mother and giving our family peace of mind during a difficult time. As they say, it takes a village- and Benchmark is best village. Fondly, the Haydens

My mother had no input in the selection due to her illness and because we told the rehab facility we were not interested in leaving her in NJ they decided to discharge her with little notice to our family. Dylan was extremely accommodating and met my sister and I on a Sunday. He arranged for someone from Sunrise to observe and document her condition at the NJ rehab and jumped hoops to help us move her quickly. Yes, there are a few unfavorable reviews we saw on the web but we checked the DPH licensing web and checked on things like service or health violations as part of our decision to move mom to BG. They bent a rule and let us move her on a holiday weekend since we had to get her in sooner when the NJ facility gave us two days notice of a discharge date of Friday before labor day. As my mother has improved, she has come to consider this her home with new friends. The staff have been kind and considerate of her recovery and care. They give her choices in her wardrobe selection and activities since she is wheelchair bound at this point. She loves her meals and feels happy, much happier as time passes, AJ, the ED has answered each and every question that we come up with, is very responsive and the receptionists are so helpful. We decided at the 11th hour of closing up her house to bring up her kitty after the first month who is also elderly and the staff has been wonderful with Timmy. I hope in considering choosing BG you will visit and check all sources, talk to staff and tour the facility. You will see for yourself that many factors go into a big decision with what is best for your parent or family member. We have found all the staff to be courteous and considerate and right down to the Director of Facilities, who responds quickly to complaints if any. The fact that Mom is close to myself, my two other siblings and we can see she is happy is a bonus. That and the friends I have made with other resident's family members. For our family it is a win win all the way around. And, then....let me tell you all about Bear........

My mother's sudden illness and my father's ongoing decrease in mobility created the situation that they could no longer live in a multi story house independently. We were so fortunate that they had looked into Brightview on New Canaan a month or so before my mother's illness. Within two weeks of the decision to move, and a week after my mother's return from the hospital, they were moved into a bright and sunny 2 bedroom apartment at Brightview. It was an emotional roller coaster for them and it took a team approach by the rest of the family to get all the furniture and their belongings moved in. The staff at Brightview are incredible and make sure that my parents feel valued and are safe and happy. Michele was indispensable in making the transition as smooth as possible. While my parents miss their house and all the living that went on it for 57 years, they now call Brightview their home. They have been there about a month. On my recent visit, I took them around town on errands. Upon return to Brightview and entering their apartment each time, they're expressions were of familiarity and contentment. They were home. We highly recommend Brightview on New Canaan as a loving place to live.

It was a daunting and emotionally difficult task for everyone in the family. Thank goodness for Atria! Our first interaction was with Frank Mastrone, the Community Sales Director. Frank listened attentively and understood our challenge. It was clear that he wanted a positive experience for my parents. There was no pressure or pushy sales pitches and we all felt comfortable throughout the process. I'll start with the facility: it's beautiful. The large and nicely appointed lobby opens on to the lounge, which in turn opens to the garden. Besides seating areas and paths around the flower beds, the garden has a fountain, koi pond and play area for the grandkids. It's lovely. The dining room is bright, spacious and the flowers and table linens give a sense of elegance. And the food! Wow! They had us at the appetizer. In addition to the dining room, there's a nice bistro with sandwiches, salads and snacks. We looked at one and two bedroom apartments as well as a studio. All were bright, fresh, airy and nicely furnished. My parents selected a west facing one bedroom unit and their sunset view is amazing. My dad enjoys the afternoon games and both enjoy the exercise and tai chi classes. They haven't yet availed themselves of the movie theater (super comfy) where there's a daily matinee and evening show, but they have enjoyed the concerts and live performances. Everyone on staff is friendly, knowledgeable and very caring with the residents. The nursing staff is attentive and really on top of the details; I'm very grateful for their care. Denese Brooks, the Executive Director, takes a personal interest in the family's experience and has been very helpful in figuring out logistical issues. I'm so happy that my folks are at Atria! I live on the opposite coast, so knowing that they're safe and well cared for is a big relief. More important, however, they are happy, comfortable, enjoying themselves and making new friends. It's pretty great. Olga P.

He went for a whole day without getting any water and when he would ask, they would act annoyed like he was bothering them. We had to repeatedly call the supervisor. The last call resulted in our not speaking with the supervisor, but a nurse, Renee. I have never been spoken to so rudely and unprofessionally in my 42 years of doing business. She wouldn't even let me (or my sister) finish a sentence without going on some unintelligible rant. Our elder family members are at the mercy of these people. They are uncaring, unsympathetic, unprofessional, RUDE, and supposed to be taking care of them. However, the physical therapy team is excellent. It's too bad that the majority of time they spend is with the problematic staff members.
