Especially first thing in the mid morning when they first open and you can take in, literally every aspect of this place!! From the plethora of food options, to the mini arcade on the way to the restroom, which by the way are super clean!!! There is something here for everyone. Great place to grab drinks with friends, hang out with the fam or for date night. If you park in the parking garage directly across the street, park on the second level and you have direct access to the walkway that leads straight to Wateside. read more

I love Waterside District for all that it has to offer -- never ceases to amaze me! I've been here multiple times or nearby, but never to get a work out on. A fitness class was going on and at first, I did have a little trouble finding the exact location. I could see the picture thumbnail include "The Market" and that it would be at the promenade, but I looked at the Waterside map and couldn't find the promenade on it. My only saving grace that I was a teacher that uses context clues and followed the river, since it said it was located by it. Found them! I will say I enjoyed seeing all the outside seating and water play available for patrons. The workout was great and we had a speaker as well. Afterwards, we were given $10 off wristbands to use inside. Great perk! Unfortunately it cannot be used at the coffee place, fudgery, or chipotle. Plentiful seating inside with a bar right in the middle. They even have a little arcade gaming area! Beautiful place to be, especially when the weather is nice. read more

I really like going to Waterside sometimes because you have the option to sit in or outside. We ate at Blue Moon and then walked to and from the Tides Double Header. It's nice and relaxing along the water especially during the week. Hopefully, some of the spots that closed will reopen soon or a new business will come in. read more

First time here and I had a blast, the DJ was mixing old and new school music that catered to all ages and demographics. I cut up the dance floor and then got some strong mixed drinks with the energetic and exciting staff. The outdoor area has giant Jenga and overlooks the water front. I've been here twice since it opened and I'm just hoping that staff will be sorted out. Once I was ignored by bar tending staff, and the hostess didn't ask to seat me. I hope some training Is being done to offer an excellent experience at this beautiful new venue. Also, I expected top shelf options at the patio bars and didn't have any high end liquor options, and nothing local to the region. I hope I'll have a different experience next visit **update: I've been here several times since and the events are wonderful that are coordinated by Waterside. Individual restaurants and bars are variable on service, but the staff seems to be much more well-trained in hospitality and service. I recommend it for a night out with friends and large events. Parking in the attached garages for $5 is preferred! read more

My wife is a native Norfolk'ian and I'm not too many years behind. We remember coming to family-friendly Waterside as kids, particularly for seeing the boats, Phillips seafood restaurant, the Fudgery and Kitty Hawk Kites. In my college years, it suffered an identity crisis morphing into part restaurant scene and part after dark club scene, neither truly being family friendly. Naturally, when the latter was frequented more heavily, it caused lots of confounding problems that ultimately catalyzed facility-wide closure. When family-friendly redevelopment plans were announced and the grand re-opening eventually occurred in May 2017, my inner child did a cartwheel! To avoid crowds, I waited several months to visit but my kids got to understand my "fudgery stories" as they experienced it for themselves! That nostalgia is priceless; however, beyond that, the caliber of offerings in Waterside really boils down to a glorified food court comprised of "paying for the name" caliber fast food with a centrally located projection TV and small live stage. Our family doesn't mind paying for GOOD food but there isn't a single restaurant or business in Waterside that entices me to return, especially when you factor paying to park. I'm not asking for an entirely hipster hangout but there's a sense of commercialism lacking anything that's uniquely our own! On another note, when exploring local venues for a private gala with 250 anticipated attendees, the Waterside event supervisor showed up late to our appointment and ultimately never followed through. Clearly, this can be chalked up to unprofessional kinks needing to be worked out. read more

Review #247 - 2019 This was also one of the spots that I had bookmarked prior to my visit to Norfolk. If you guessed that it's because I wanted a picture with the Norfolk mural, you guessed correctly! When I mentioned it to my girlfriend, she guessed it right away because her office is located inside the city center and she sees this mural everyday! It was supposed to be one those quick hit & run stop--where we'd just jump out of the car to snap a few quick photos with the mural then leave. Surprisingly, we ended up staying here for almost two hours! We showed up around 3:45 PM on Monday, September 2nd. Being that it was Labor Day, I assumed it would be pretty busy, but there weren't too many people around at all. My daughter had a great time playing in the water park. She was soaking wet so we had to let her walk around a bit to dry off. We were thinking about having dinner at Guy Fieri, but neither of us were too hungry so we ended up just grabbing some ice cream at the Fudgery, which was just ok. They have a decent selection of restaurants/bars, which I didn't really look around much, but this place would definitely be a great after work hang out spot. We didn't leave until 5:45 PM so I guess we did stay around for 2 full hours. read more

Went to check out the taco festival. I had a wonderful time. Parking was easy to find and the line wasn't that long at all to get in. I purchased tickets on Eventbrite. There were so many vendors and people the lines were a little long but overall great time. Live band and the bars were open. read more

Big 4th of July event tonight, and they have 1 bartender at each of the bars, and most of them said they aren't serving any food. How do you go into a place called Rocky Mountain Grill and they aren't serving food, and I learned that after waiting in a line behind 4 groups of people for 20 minutes. The taco bar and Guy Fieri's are the only places that have food apparently. I stood at the Taco bar for 20 minutes to order food, only to be told you can only order on the other side where the cook is. Emphasis on "cook" because there is only 1 guy taking orders for food and cooking it. So I stood in that line for a good 20-30 minutes, and once he said he's gonna have to stop taking orders soon because he needs a break I left. I understand there is a big event going on and it's gonna be busy, but this is what you get when you have 1 person working at the each bar and the ownership obviously only cares about taking in as much money as possible. Would have been much better with 2-3 bartenders at each bar and a couple cooks for hundreds of people. read more

We came here for the taco festival. I haven't been inside of the district until today... at least not in several years. I thought it was nicely remodeled. The set up was obviously catered to the taco festival but I liked the long bar areas and open floor plan. When you are on the second floor you can see the downstairs area because they have transparent walls while you sit and eat. Nice area to hang out at! read more

OMG!!! This review is solely based on the excitement I have about the opening of Waterside District!! It's been a long time coming but it looks like all will be a go in about 24hours!! I visited yesterday as special reservations were honored for invited guests. This event served as training for the staff in order to help prepare them for the large crowd that are expected tomorrow and going forward. The weather was beautiful yesterday and the smiles on the faces of the guests and employees was a sight to see!! The food... OMG!!! The vibe... loving it already! Valet parking is available ($7 ... well it was yesterday) and there are plenty of parking garages around Waterside. Meter parking is free after 6pm and free on Sundays. Plan ahead for the grand opening taking place next week - May 11th to May 14th. More vendors will be occupying the District soon too! Get excited!! Have fun | enjoy life read more

The renovation of the Waterside is awesome. Many restaurants within side, Nauticus museum a short walk, open park right on the water, and the endless festivals and music scenes has really taken this place to new heights. The Macarthur center and man street shopping is just a block away. There is a great time to be had by all. This is a great location to meet after work for a drink or two, to get a way from all the hassle and bustle, and even dinner with the family...or with that special someone and then take a walk along the water way. there is a multi parking garage right across the street. read more

Upon first seeing this place I was amazed at the huge open space and how it was filled with various shops and bars. I mean when you walk it it looks like a sports lovers dream. Basically it is one very large open mall primarily aimed at watching sports and, at least for a football lover like myself, seems like the go-to place on a Saturday or Sunday in Fall or Winter. The outside is very beautiful overlooking the water and having a nice promenade to walk on and enjoy the view. So, why only 3 stars. Well, when I went to the bathroom, they were out of soap. This was a particular point of issue for my friend who has been concerned about COVID and could not understand why they would not be sufficiently stocked on soap, especially with how germ-ridden bathrooms are likely to be. While it is certainly possible, and likely, that the shortage and thus bottleneck occurred further back on the supply chain. Nonetheless, it unfortunately detracted from the experience given her more than reasonable concern. This place is easily capable of 5 stars and I could definitely see myself enjoying the greater part of the day or evening chilling out here with friends or strangers and enjoying some college football or NFL. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place! It's a fantastic venue to meet up with friends, family or co-workers. Outdoor seating with heaters and fire pit are available if you want to sit by the waterside and watch the boats. Its a very relaxing and fun space Indoors you have several bar and restaurant options including a wine bar! Tons of seating and definitely a great place to bring large groups. Hot tip*** New Years this place is off the hook fun and is a great place to party. VIP tickets sold for $150 per person and Gold tickets sold for $95. The event included food stations from every restaurant from 8-11 pm DJ's and a live band (the delorians) Customer service was excellent despite the massive crowds for New Years. This area is Thee hub of Norfolk, The tourist area and from what I understand was recently renovated. It's a great spot. Several bars, coffee shops, restaurants, massive TV's Toilets etc. We came here to watch one of the World Cup games and drink some fantastic bloody Mary's. I have to say they were damn good. Entrance from the street and the back doors take you directly into the water front where you can watch the massive ships do their thing in the harbor. This is a military town as you can tell from all the military activities on the harbor. Cool to watch. The indoors is a great way to spend several hours away from the stifling heat and throngs of people. read more
