It is NOT a shared bath, it is just a few steps outside the room. Not a big deal at all and it's HUGE. Paradise on the Lake is a great home base when exploring the gorgeous Finger Lakes. $2,000 Stay, Poor Room Condition, and Refusal to Refund Unused Night…read more Beautiful setting, but disappointing room conditions and an even more disappointing General Manager response. My wife and I prepaid the $2,000 required for a four-night stay at Geneva On The Lake in the Finger Lakes in Geneva, New York. Unfortunately, an unexpected medical emergency at home forced us to leave after our third night. We notified the hotel management on our third night and requested a refund only for the fourth night that we could not use - approximately $500. We stayed the third night since we learned of our emergency at 5 pm and could not handle the 7-hour drive home as seniors. The hotel refused to refund the unused night, citing its 14-day cancellation policy, even though we had not cancelled our stay before arrival. We had already stayed three of the four nights and left only because of an unforeseen emergency. There were no public statements on the hotel's website regarding early departure penalties. Their site only spoke to "cancellations made less than 14 days of the arrival date are not refundable". After further correspondence, management offered to refund only 30% of the unused night -- $148.46. I asked them one final time to reconsider and refund the unused fourth night. Nearly three days later, I received no response at all. Unfortunately, that was not our only disappointment. I also took photographs of the condition of our accommodation. They show: * stained carpeting * a torn main sofa cushion * large stains/marks on several pieces of wood furniture * very dirty window glass * substantial cobwebs between the windows and screens which prevented opening the windows I am posting the photographs with this review so prospective guests can judge the condition for themselves. I initially chose not to raise these room condition issues with management because I was trying to resolve the unused night issue privately and reasonably. Geneva On The Lake is in a beautiful location and has considerable potential, but at the prices it charges, I expected considerably better maintenance of the accommodations and, equally important, a more reasonable and responsive approach from management when a guest faces a genuine emergency. The most disappointing part of this experience was not simply that things went wrong. It was how management handled them afterward.

I mean really old where you can hear the springs creak and you wake up dozens of times in the middle of the night. The bathroom and foyer of the Ice House smells like feces because the septic tank is so old and not working properly. Stepping from the foyer into the living room shakes the entire floor. The gas stove in the kitchen doesn't work and isn't hooked up to anything. Why bother having a stove then? There were no full length mirrors in either the Ice House or the room in the main house, very inconvenient for getting ready considering many people come here for weddings. Septic tank for the Ice House needs to be replaced and the house needs to be renovated so the building doesn't shake when you walk around. I like a rustic charm where things look old but at least do some upkeep to maintain the property. In the main building, you can smell the septic tank from the lobby. They sprayed a ton of perfume to try to cover it up but the perfume smells awful and now it just smells like perfume and feces. Also spraying that much perfume is disruptive for people with sensitivities and migraines and will give you a headache. For the amount we're paying, we shouldn't have to smell shit during our whole stay. The continental breakfast is pathetic and definitely not suitable for people with dietary restrictions. They have plastic wrapped bagels and pastries and sugary cereals. All refined carbs. Everything has sugar added, including the cream cheese. No almond or oat milk, they only have dairy milk. That felt more like a "f*ck you" than an oversight because dairy intolerance is so common and every place has non-dairy milk these days. The yogurt isn't even vegetarian! It has gelatin in it. The fresh blueberries were nice. We ended up eating in Geneva. Again disappointing considering the price, you'd expect a better breakfast. Overall not worth it considering the price. I do not recommend staying here unless they renovate the property. Shameful as it's so beautiful.

We purchased the wine and dine package - staying three nights and doing two days of wine tours with the man in the van. It was spectacular. Wine tours- were a great experience . We saw 6-7 vineyards each day and did the east side of the lake one day and the west the other! Dario, our driver, was an amazing tour guide and very knowledgeable about the wine and the region! You won't be dissapointed if you book your tours with him! Food- the breakfast at this B&B was out of this world - all made to order unique menu choices!! And then there is the 9 course tapas meal on Saturday night. Chef Andy really out did himself with an international culinary adventure ! In addition to the food at the inn Rossana will give you great recommendations for community restaurants. Inn- very clean and comfortable ! Wine and dine package - highly recommended! Rossana uses this package to spoil her guests with nice surprises through your stay. Owners- Rossana and Andy are such lovely people! We greatly enjoyed chatting with them and their wonderful family! Andrew is a bit bewildered why nobody orders his huevos rancheros (I wish I had), so give it a try when you are there. You can have it straight up or in an omelet. Andrew and Rossana offer an excellent tapas dinner on Saturday night, which is not only a great value but extraordinary in its depth and complexity. My wife and I enjoyed it immensely. It's the beginning of fall and cool weather, and it's New York State, all of which put me in a lovely mood. However, being a B&B/yurt experience I wasn't sure how to go about the initial check-in. So, my first pleasure is the fact that I met Angela in the driveway, and then Chris came out (it is only fair to-say these two are fresh owners but not new to the hospitality business), and the grand tour was immediately warm and inviting. Homemade pastries, discussions about the wonderful historic, architecture, and themselves relaxed my husband and I from the seven hour trip immediately. We chose a Yurt stay as novelty and were extremely surprised with amenities. Lovely fresh pastries and morning foods, fresh water , coffees, and all the necessary items "to get you going", were provided. Options for eggs in the morning were available. Beds were very comfy. Yurts were very clean. Views plentiful with the option of an outdoor fire and chairs looking at one of the finger lakes available. After the first night we brought back new found friends for their own yurt experience (at 90 yers old no less). They were very pleased as well. Also, one of the best parts was hearing the outdoor sounds as if in a tent but in a homey setting without the tent mess! We will certainly do another long weekend next fall. Highly recommend!

Called to make a reservation the day of, it was a Wednesday and they were able to accommodate us. We got a room with a queen size bed and it wasn't huge but it was good enough and the bathroom was spacious. The pillows on the bed might be the best pillows I have ever slept on in any hotel, EVER, and I have stayed in many hotels. So fluffy and wonderful. So one thing I have to say: they have coffee downstairs in the "lobby" area 24 hours a day and they also have cookies. Yes, soft, wonderful, delicious cookies. They are enormous and stare you right in the face when you walk in the hotel. You may think you have willpower, but when you are coming back to this hotel after a night of drinking in Geneva, willpower gone. Those cookies were darn delicious. Yes, cookies, plural. They have a pool and a little fitness center too, which we didn't utilize but maybe you will. Their continental breakfast was definitely impressive, for the most part, as long as you didn't intend on eating very healthy. Their hard boiled eggs were bad, two mornings we had continental breakfasts here, both times, the texture just wasn't right. They had oatmeal in a crackpot, which was my go to because it was one of the only healthy options. The toppings they had seemed healthy until you really looked at what it was. There were "almonds" but they were coated in loads of sugar. There was cinnamon sugar and there were also candied fruit. Luckily there were some peanut butter packs and I added that to my oatmeal with a banana and was set. They had make your own waffles, turkey sausage, omelettes, cereal, bagels, muffins and toast. Their coffee wasn't my favorite, but it also wasn't the worst. They had 2% milk, skim and half and half out. I thought the rooms were a tad expensive for what they were, but it was convenient that we didn't have to get a cab to go to the various restaurants and bars in the area. They even let me leave my car in the parking lot overnight while we headed to the end of the lake and stayed in Watkins Glen. I would definitely stay here again.
