We called Hoffman Bro's first because they deal with both, and they charged us ~$300 to tell us the same thing as Spire and suggest we call a chimney sweep to check the flue pipe for blockages. We couldn't find a chimney sweep that either could be booked within the month to inspect and give us an estimate, and if they could be booked in that time frame they didn't understand the problem we described and wanted us to fork over hundreds to inspect and sweep our flue. Luckily, an acquantance gave us Crestside Ballwin's number. The receptionist called Dave over to learn about the problem and within a minute he figured that the roofers we had over a few weeks ago probably botched the install of the new flue pipe cap. They had a tech come over two hours after I called and sure enough that was the problem. Anyhow, these guys were solid for us, I'm super thankful we found them.

I was quite impressed with availability of the appointment and the flexibility in choosing a time that worked for my schedule. Malcom let me know first by text that he was on his way, then called to speak with me to confirm he would be arriving in 30 minutes. From the moment he arrived, I felt I could trust his expertise as it was clear he knew what he was doing. He diagnosed the issue in just minutes and made some recommendations to mitigate the issue. He offered some ideas of what I could do myself and what he recommended for professional servicing. I appreciated that he was looking out for my wallet. I was happy to let him do recommended work. Fast, courteous and professional service that didn't break the bank. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend. Malcom deserves a raise so I hope his boss reads this!

I went with the Trane system. The Trane system has a user-friendly smart thermostat. That is exactly what I was looking for. It was nice to see my electrical bill a lot lower. It's very efficient. I hired Tope Plumbing, and within about 15 minutes they located an outdoor cleanout roughly 5 feet from where Gateway had been working. They hydro-flushed the line, cleared the blockage, and got everything flowing again for $305 within 1 hour. Almost $800 with no resolution vs. $305 to Tope to actually find the access point and fix the problem. Stay away from Gateway. Hire them if you want to blow your money on labor and inspection charges for nothing to get done. Keep in mind these guys tried convincing me I needed to excavate 9 feet of dirt to find the outdoor access line, Tope found it in 15 min. Can you imagine if I didn't get a second opinion and spent thousands excavating for nothing? The picture attached shows their "findings." Jim was the one who told me the excavation needed to happen.
