This apartment complex is for you if you are fine with: - poisons being sprayed all over the common green space areas where children play and people and dogs walk; - "landscapers" mercilessly mutilating what could be beautiful trees and flowering shrubs into small lumps; - the super loud sound of leaf blowers; - alarms going off for months without maintenance doing anything about it and them acting like you are the problem for asking them to fix the alarm and make the horrendous noise stop; - maintenance not communicating about the work they did, nor seeking clarification with you about the work that needs to be done, nor when they will be in your apartment doing the work, and then maintenance accusing you of being disrespectful for requesting clear communication; - automatic toxic room "fresheners" in the fitness rooms (I had so been looking forward to using them but did not want to breathe the toxins); - crazy loud HVAC units constantly blasting noise making you feel like you are in a non-stop giant engine room in your own home; - ridiculously bright light pollution that is hard to block out at night and visually assaults you when you look out your windows or open your door; there is no reason for such a multitude of super bright, white lights and it is a waste of electricity. When I moved in, there were several things broken in my apartment and things that still needed to be cleaned. Over the first month, maintenance was responsive and did the repairs and cleaning (like the ceiling fan that I could not reach to clean was caked in thick dirt and dust and grease, and the bathroom fan did not work because the painters sprayed the bumpy ceiling paint spray all over it), but they left all the dirt and debris for me to clean up. I never had that experience before where maintenance workers expected me to clean up their mess. It would be useful for them to have a checklist to go through before a tenant moves in to make sure that everything is working and clean. Other than that, the location is good. Visually the aesthetics of the buildings are okay. There is plenty of parking. I like that there are many trees around and I can go for long walks in the neighborhood. I like that they plant flowers at different locations there. The price is expensive but bearable.

It's rare to find an apartment community where the staff truly care about you as a person, and that's exactly what I've experienced here. Communication is fast, maintenance is responsive, and the property is always beautifully kept--the landscaping alone makes coming home feel peaceful. Now its only $$ signs that interest them. The whole place is dated and worn out. Thin carpet , small original cheap appliances which All need to be replaced but wont be. The maintenance staff will attempt to repair them with parts from other appliances . If you do manage to snag a new appliance it will mean you went weeks without a say washing machine before they replaced it. I saw at least 6 apartments go without air conditioning this past summer while they ordered parts or begged for new ones. It has a little kitchen with chippy granite that gets painted when it chips. My kitchen floor literally had holes in it that were painted to match. That laminate was old and cheap and might cost them a hundred bucks to replace. Its just tired all over. The pool never opened until July cause they hired maintenance men who didnt know how to open or maintain pools. Its took the towns building department to straighten it out. The dog park is gross and never cleaned. The grilling area is a mess and overflowing with trash. Many units have mice. Overall its just not good. They started renting to a new clientele who literally abused all the facilities and nothings ever done about it. One thing you can count on is a rent increase every year.One huge difference is when I moved there , it had an onsite manager and onsite maintenance man. They have neither now and the manager only goes from his car to his office and back and never tours the property or sees what you see as tenants. One bright light is Catherine in the office. So nice but literally her hands are tied. I found another apartment thats newer, nicer and cheaper. No wonder they have so many available apartments. Think twice.

Cons: Weak management, dated apartments, trash compactor breaks often, animal waste everywhere. Halstead has potential to be "great " however, the apartments are dated. Cabinets in kitchen and bathrooms faded, scratches, never touched up or aligned since when it first opened up as the Reserve. Porches have lots of storage/trash even though it's prohibited. Most apartments still have the original rugs! The rugs are sparse and dirty. The replacement rugs are cheap and show wear within a year. There is paint splashes everywhere the counter, cabinets, floor and rug from when the painters come in after a tenant leaves. If you happen to bump into the wall, your clothes will also be covered in paint from the numerous coats on them over the years. You can't have your own ceiling fan they make you rent one from them for $15 a month which is totally insane. These are these fans are antiquated. In terms of management, The manager, Malik, is weak. He doesn't seem to enforce policies mentioned in the lease. He appears "unphased" by anything so you feel as though he doesn't care. For instance, during a snowstorm an email goes out when you need to move your car by and the time they're going to plow. What happens is many don't move their car and the plowing is difficult for the company. This leaves piles of snow in spaces that should be used for parking. If you're going to put out a memo that your car will be towed then tow the car after the first instance, people will move their cars then!! Catherine the leasing specialist, however, is friendly and so pleasant to work with. Unfortunately, tenants and anyone who walks through the property does not pick up pet waste. There was poop everywhere even right next to the place where you deposit the waste. The poop situation is concerning there. The hall rugs need replacing, the doors need repainting where you come in and go out of the building. Halstead lacks upkeep inside and within the building itself. The screens are thread bare. I heard that if a dishwasher, washing machine needs replacing that they pull one form storage. The management company refuses to buy any new appliances!! Don't be fooled by the "outside". If they took some money and fixed up the inside of the apartments to look as nice as the outside it might be worth the price of the rent. They do the bare minimum, actually not even the bare minimum when new tenants are coming in. The management team didn't even do a walkthrough before I moved in. I would suggest that the management team go and walk the grounds regularly. Take note at who's got junk and trash on their porches. Walk through empty units and have a maintenance department or an outside company come in and redo the cabinets the floors, the rugs, make it look nice for what they're charging. They raise the rent each year by at least $100 yet, nothing has changed in the unit. The price should actually be less for the lack of any maintenance other than what the tenant does. Lots of pot smoking going on in the parking lot and on the grounds for a non-smoking complex. There are lots of brand new complexes going up in the area to compete. For a one bedroom starting around $2400 and nothing included, unless you're set on living in Holden, you should keep shopping.

It feels like a lot of people who have issues are highly motivated to bash this complex, however, my experience has been much different. People here are quite pleasant. I have gotten to know many residents, mostly dog owners, by chatting out front. People are friendly yet without being clingy or cliquish. As for hearing noise from neighbors, the ONLY thing I hear is when someone upstairs sneezes. Yes the train is loud, however, I don't even hear it anymore. Parking has not ever been an issue, and my schedule is erratic so I'm in/out all day and at night. The maintenance staff does one heck of a job! William is always painting something...Last week there was a guy literally washing the front doors of all the apartments on my floor! I live on 3rd floor and have yet to turn on my heat despite the frigid temps we've experienced thus far. The windows are well insulated and the heat must be rising from downstairs but it's 70° in my house. Last month's gas bill: $5.94! Alyssa in the management office has been friendly, warm, professional and incredibly responsive to me. There is a group of people, "The Complainers," who don't seem to be very nice to her but I've never met a property manager who's so genuinely concerned with doing her best and responsive. My only concern is lack of security. I feel incredibly safe here, however, I worry about my car being stolen/vandalized. Alyssa had a public meeting to discuss security issues (I was away) and the very next day ALL parking lot lights were turned on from dusk to dawn. This is a major improvement, however, installing more cameras in public spaces or, preferably, having an overnight security guard on foot would be awesome. I've moved a lot in my life and can honestly say that I'm looking forward to staying put here for a while. The quality of units, amenities and great staff are a bargain for the price. I looked at lofts in Dorchester Lower Mills that didn't come close to these apartments and for a lot more money. Commute can be a drag but with Rte. 9 only 5 min away you have everything you could possibly want in terms of shopping or restaurants. Yelp reviews usually sound like they're written by pissed-off people or friends & family. I am neither. Just someone who loves where he lives and wants to share his opinion.

The managers treat everyone like family which makes this place unique. They are courteous, professional, yet fun and VERY prompt with requests and suggestions. Note: because of the buildings being very new and privately owned, they are more expensive. However, you do get 9 foot ceilings, lots of room, in-house washers/dryers, central air, and the buildings are all energy efficient (our monthly electric bill hasn't passed $80 and we blast the AC almost all day everyday).

The alternative apartments were either: a) reasonable rent, generic with white walls, white carpeting, walled off Kitchenettes with old appliances b) high rent, well equipped with modern designs, fitness rooms (extra fees), tennis courts and outdoor pools Madison Place features apartments with a modern, open design. The kitchen faces out to the living area and has granite counter tops, new appliances and track lighting. Washer and dryer are tucked away nicely behind a sliding door. A bonus feature is the large storage closet directly across the hall from the apartment. It totally beats having to go to a storage cage in some creepy basement like most places. It's the kind of place where a successful professional would want to live. Madison purposefully lacks the outdoor amenities like a pool and tennis courts in favor of charging less for rent. I am always able to park close to my building with plenty of spots for company. In addition to the great design and reasonable rent, the office team, Jen and Mark, are incredibly good-natured, responsive and customer service oriented. I always leave the office with my questions answered and a smile on my face. Anytime I receive packages during the work day, I find them right outside the door of my second floor apartment. I could easily pick them up at the office, but having the staff bring them right to my place is a welcome luxury. Lastly, the couple times where I needed minor repairs, the maintenance guy, Eddie, completed the work the same day. Parking lots are well cleared during the snow. Essentially, if you want an upscale apartment for a generic apartment rent, with customer service oriented office / maintenance staff, I highly recommend MP in Shrewsbury.
