I just dropped Waste Management as my garbage contractor last month. Waste Management broke my trash bin and did not replace it for five months even after at least ten phone calls (their responsibility). They also missed my pick up more than half the time. I was lucky if my trash was picked up twice a month (should have been every week). On top of that they would add a mysterious fuel service fee every month to my bill that would fluctuate wildly so I never knew what my bill would be. Some of the highest fuel fees where in months when my pick up was missed THREE TIMES! When I called about my last missed pick ups (two in a row) I was treated like absolute dirt by Waste Management's customer service reps. That was not the first time I was treated poorly but it was the last time. I cancelled my service and went with Republic Services. So far they have been much better and their price is half of what I was paying not even including the fuel fee I no longer have to pay. Waste Management is an AWFUL AWFUL company! My experience with Waste Management is textbook for how NOT to service a customer. I am not sure which local location actually services my area (Schoolcraft Township, 300 yards south of the Portage city limit). I'm pretty sure Waste Management no longer has any interest in servicing their existing customers outside of Portage since they landed the City of Portage contract to haul all the trash in the city. The service wasn't terrible. They only missed our pick up about five times in 2 years but did reimburse. But then I got a bill about a missed payment when we were on auto pay and canceled service and tried to charge me an extra $100 to reinstate service. I took care of that but then it happened again.. once again we were on auto pay and I received a bill about a missed payment. So I owed like $58 because of their clerical error and they canceled service on me again. And now the icing on the cake is there trying to say I owe them $150 and they're taking me to collections! read more

Signed up a year ago and was up for annual "rate review". The increase was 25% versus "rate of inflation" I was told when I signed up. Plus, they give you no advance notice but according to "my terms of service" I have to give them 90 days advance notice. I was lucky I caught the rate increase because if I had paid that month (I was on autopay) I was locked into the higher rate for the next 2 years. They missed service dates repeatedly and then wouldn't make it right by adding another pickup. I'd have the cans out as directed and they wouldn't be touched. The driver would note that the cans weren't outside when they definitely were. Spent almost 50 minutes on the phone, trying to cancel service. In addition, it's a $75 container removal charge. I'm so fed up with WM. The ladies with whom I spoke were polite and efficient but just a lot of waiting to actually speak with someone. Can only cancel service via phone call. read more

Absolutely the worst possible trash company to work with. They require a contracted term, mine was for 3 years. They raised the rates within the 1st year, by vaguely mentioning the increase in a bill, and when it goes unnoticed you are now locked into a higher rate for the rest of your term. Then after horrible service, failure to pickup and the absolute worst customer service you are stuck with their low quality company or you pay outrageous rates to get out of the contract. Save yourself the trouble of fighting with this immoral manipulative company and find another provider. I think their 1 stars across the board proves my point. read more

20 yard rolling dumpster was dropped off on Friday and pickup was set for Tuesday. it is now Friday again and this company hasn't picked up. they parked the dumpster on an angle to which the pickup would require driving onto the neighbors driveway. Their service has almost doubled in the past two years however service has become more and more unreliable. My trash isn't picked up but the driver lies and says it was. Today they tell me they had a problem and couldn't pick up this week but ONLY since I complained they would credit me for the week. They actually expected to just not show up and still be paid for services!!! If you have the option to go with ANYONE else- I would suggest you do. read more

My experience with Waste Management has been absolutely horrendous. They charge about twice as much as the local service and they have missed pickups, as well as charged me over $80 to pick up the bin after I canceled my service, although they said they'd pick it up within 5 days, and it's been over a week and a half, and they still have not picked it up. When I asked them to call me so that I could put the bin out the day it will be picked up so that I don't get a ticket from the city for leaving the bin out, they said that wasn't an option. Waste Management drove off with our dumpster still on the arm of the truck. It took two weeks to get a new one, meanwhile we had bags of smelly garbage in our garage. When we finally got a dumpster, the driver drove by two weeks in a row. After calling, I was promised it would get picked up within two days.... it's now day five and no pick up. What's wrong with your customer service?? WM is a monopoly that could care less about their customers. read more

Alright, so this is NOT a review of the WM workers at all- but of the overpriced services! The WM workers are outstanding. BUT, I didn't even know that Sunny Bay Disposal is WAY better and cheaper. I have been paying WAY more for years! I switched right out from these folks as soon as I found out. We have been so ripped off! I have worked with Sunny Bay Disposal and they're wonderful! They also offer 3 different size drop-off dumpsters- 10, 20 and 30 yards at very affordable prices. WM's prices are outrageous compared to them! The person handing my cancelling of service at WM said, "Well, if we could make the price better would you stay?" WHAT?!! You should have done that YEARS ago without me having to find out you ripped me off, forever! read more

I am very disappointment in WM, I have had service with them for appox. 3 years now, have been a loyal customer, and even paid my service for an entire year for all three years. We have moved to a new location, because of this I do not get refunded the almost 6 months I am losing, that I paid upfront for, and they are also charging me $75 to come and pick up their cans!!!! Waste Management facility is 8 miles from my house, that is not even $75 worth of gas, I called and offered to drop them off my self, but they are not set up for drop offs, she was able assist by dropping this fee to $52.50.. I am grateful she was able to help, but this is ridiculous, is this how you treat loyal customers?? I am glad I switched services now.. this is very disappointing. read more
