3 blocks + of touristy fun! This pedestrian mall smack dab in the middle of town has been here since the 70s & has a great variety of unique shops (no chain stores - ok Kohr's & DQ maybe;), places to eat, things for kids & adults alike. It's also not super big, so you can walk up and down without having to spend a lot of time getting to where you want to go. Every time I've been here, I've had the opportunity to enter the Star-of-the-Sea's car raffle (in front of the Church on the East end) ...one of these days I'm gonna win;) The other great thing about the Mall is that much of the other things to see/do in Cape May are within easy walking distance - more restaurants, B&Bs, mini golf, arcades, more shops, the beach... On any visit to Cape May, at least one stop here is a must!
"I ever get my hands on a dollar again I'm gonna hold onto it 'til George Washington grins It's mighty strange without a doubt Nobody wants you when you're down and out" (Derek and the Dominoes) The Washington Street Mall was dedicated in 1971, and you'll find it in the center of downtown Cape May. It's one of the area's top destinations and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. A three-block stretch of Washington Street and adjoining sections of six streets are closed to vehicular traffic, so the area is a big pedestrian mall with over 75 businesses - boutiques, shops, restaurants, bars, snacks, are everywhere for your purchasing pleasure. Street parking and parking lots are pretty convenient all around the area, and we found a nice diagonal spot in a big parking lot behind Washington Street. We started our visit Saturday and had a nice lunch at the Ugly Mug and then enjoyed strolling around the mall on a crazily warm Spring-like afternoon. By the time we were ready to return to our hotel our shopping bags contained placemats, beef jerky, a sweatshirt, a bag of candied popcorn, and a car decal. Most definitely it's a worthwhile stop if you're in the area.
Walking along Washington Street in Cape May became my daily routine while on vacation this past July w friends. Tons of gift stores, restaurants, with lots of local charm. It's lovely day or night, a must do while in CM!
Great time at this street mall! It is a throwback to old times and it has some incredibly beautiful houses all around the area. I'm very impressed with the old architecture in this neighborhood. They have all kinds of eating options as well as great places for a cold brew or drink. A really nice place to visit.
Wonderful mall in Cape May- with a long strip of local vendors local boutiques with unique finds -nice restaurants-ice cream places with delicious flavors-they also has a beautiful church which I was drawn to for a prayer that is so desperately needed -plenty of benches to sit and relax just a must place to visit if you are in Cape May
Such a great place to stroll of boardwalks aren't your thing. There's something for everyone. Retail. Dining. And if you're lucky, there's a festival going on like Oktoberfest or a sidewalk sale. I love it here!
When one thinks of Cape May, the beach and all the Victorian architecture may first come to mind. After that, though, it would likely be the Washington Street Mall - it's a popular spot that attracts vacationers due to its size, walkability, and variety of businesses that line the streets. The Mall is more of an outdoor shopping area that spans a few blocks of Washington Street. It's closed off to cars, so pedestrians are free to roam from store to store without worry. There's a good variety of businesses that one would expect to find in a beach resort town - lots of clothing and gift shops selling touristy stuff, some ice cream parlors, coffee shops, a Christmas store (of course), a confectionary (of course again), and several restaurants. During my most recent trip to CM I visited here several times to people watch and pass the time. The biggest standout shop for me was The Cheese Shop, where I picked up some blue and crackers and was able to munch right outside. The mall itself is easily accessible from multiple points in Cape May, and you can walk Washington St beyond the mall up to the Emlen Physick Estate - another popular attraction in CM. Overall, not to be missed when visiting Cape May, even if you're not looking to make a purchase or eat, it's a great place to walk some laps.
A must see place when visiting Cape May. One of our friends suggested this and it was just colorful and very good !! Loved taking photographs here amidst the colorful backgrounds . Lots and lots of eateries around . Parking is the only headache with this mall. It is so limited and very herd to find , even though it is paid parking . No free parkings around . Took us 20-30 mins to find a parking . Apart from parking this place is just THE PLACE to be . Kids loved the pizzas .. and lots of other ice creams and coffees around . Loved this spot and a must visit !
Any time of year it's a great place to visit! Christmas was especially wonderful! Found some great deals in the shops. Was a romantic night walk with the lights. Tons of good places to eat.
My bf and I had a great time walking around Washing Street Mall. I loved the different shops and snack options. I was able to grab memorable souvenirs for family and friends. And you're supporting local small businesses while you're at it. Parking was a bit difficult as we found a spot about a 15-20 minute walk from the mall. I was glad to find a Jersey Shore long sleeve to take with me back to North Jersey!
I've been to Europe a few times and walked down Las Rambla in Barcelona where in 2017 some crazy person decided to use their car as a weapon, driving it down a pedestrian area. So I'm extremely aware of shopping areas like this and am especially in tune with my surroundings. Cape May could do better at installing vehicle barricades that would prevent such attacks. Other than that bit of depressing stuff, this is a great spot. On this warm Saturday evening, the place was pretty crowded with families and kids running about. Shopping, dining, eating, looking at locally made crafts and such. A few buskers far enough away from each other that they were each making a decent sound. A highlight for any visit to Cape May. Just be aware as always. [Review 18224 overall - round number 100 in New Jersey - 1746 of 2022.]
A beautiful place to walk and shop, the mall has a lot of new stores, and different restaurants since I visited here about four years ago. The mall is a smoke free zone, and although masks are not required it was packed last night while walking around as well as the stores being very crowded so use your own discretion. The square in front of the mall has another full block of stores for your shopping pleasure, parking spots are located at the back end of the stores.
It's not a big outdoor mall, but it had lots of visitors, families, couples, singletons enjoying the quaint tourist shops.
Cape May is a treasure trove just waiting to be explored, especially when the weather doesn't cooperate. Considered one of the five most successful pedestrian malls in the nation, Washington Street is a three-block outdoor walking plaza that opens year-round and is located in the heart of town. Designed in 1971, its pathways are reminiscent of historic roads, and the fountains and landscaping add to its charming appeal. Luckily our B&B was closed by, we left our parked vehicle with an easy few-minute walk. One can find everything from local crafts and souvenirs to delicious eateries here. Even though there were many people, it did not feel crowded at all. The workers do an outstanding job keeping this area clean and the seasonal decorations beautiful and watered. A nice place to shop at any time of year. read more
As years prior, I always enjoy taking "the stroll" here. WSM is very lovely and chock full of wonderful restaurants and cute and unique shops. Also a Kohr Brothers now! I worked above the fudge shop in 2000 when The Chamber of Commerce was there. A sweet side hustle. There is now app parking, which is nice and convenient. Until we meet again ... read more

PROS: many good stores are inside here. A cigar shop, A book store, jewelry store, a locally made items store, a pet shop, pop culture store and more. The staff is very nice in all of these places as well CONS: only an up escalator and not a down one. It's also only receptive to foot traffic. Nowhere to park and go inside OVERALL: if you're in the area, come here. It's amazing inside read more

I always enjoy these walking, strip malls where you can eat, shop, see historical placks and rest all within a few steps. Really though there are a lot of awesome little shops and I can be quite particular about things that I buy and spending money in general but the street here has quite a few nice shops with all kinds of goods, some of which could be unique as it may have been made and only sold locally. So much is in this square or a few steps from it. Clothes, food, jewelry, accessories, things for pets, books, bath & beauty stuff and more. Very lively during the day and calmer at night with lights that shine the way. Strolling the mall is a great way to kill time too as many of the restaurants call for a wait or reservation. So look around, you may find something to pique your interest. If not this a nice local strip to see some local goods. read more
[950] 7/18/2019 Since I was in Cape May I had to check out this local shopping area. Washington street mall is a bunch of mom and pop shops with the street blocked off from traffic. I saw a ton a cute stores and made a bunch of nice purchases. Paid parking is available nearby I wish they had more benches and perhaps some street vendors where I can pick up a quick bite to eat Internet was non existent in most of the stores so I couldn't yelp that much. Lol I'll be back I'll be back read more
An abundance of shops and restaurants in this wonderful outdoor mall. Spend a day here leisurely walking and taking in this historic area of Cape May, one block from the Ocean and about a mile from the Delaware Bay. Free parking until May 1st. read more

Small but cute place to shop... I was not there particularly for shopping, we parked our car nearby and while going to the beach we saw this and what a found it was for us. Super cute small shops spread across 3-4 blocks. Cars are passing through this mall. All we did was window shopping, clicked few pics. This is a great spot for hang out. We were there in winter and again on labor weekend. Though we bought a cute magnet from one shop. You can find lots of thing in these shops. Its just 3 blocks away from the beach and it is crowded during summer. You can ride on Horse cart here. Just across the street, you can find cart parking where you can board these. Parking- just 1 block far, you 'll find municipality parking $1 per hour. read more
Something for everyone. An outdoor mall with food, shops, bars etc. It includes cute boutiques and brand names like Ben and Jerry's, Kohl Bro's etc. Due to COVID, plan on wearing a mask in stores. Also, you are now able to buy alcohol from restaurants and bars in the mall and carry them around to drink or bring in stores. Be sure to ask for a lid though to comply with the local ordinance. Overall, a beautiful place to spend the day, shop, eat and be outdoors. Kid friendly. read more
Recently stayed in cape May for my sons Coast guard graduation and this was the first place I had to visit. Stopped in at the coffee time to have something to keep me warm whilst I window shopped in the early chilly morning. Went back after graduation to buy some souvenirs and couldn't get enough of how beautiful this place is. Wish I had more time. read more

Cute street of small local stores with ice cream, fudge shops, restaurants, and coffee shops. A great place to take a little walk and browse kf you want a bit of a break from the beach Verycute, it gives a colonial feel to it with the brick walkways and buildings. I really enjoyed it here read more

Washington Street Mall is the shopping hub of Cape May. Ample Metered Parking is available. The outdoor Mall has approx 30 small independent stores. The shops include kitschy clothing and antique shops, Christmas decoration store, candy, ice cream, peanut butter, olive oil etc. there are a handful of restaurants and bars as well. Depending on where you are staying the Mall maybe within walking distance. The Mall is surrounded by beautiful Victorian homes and bed & breakfasts. It is worth checking out if in the area. When staying in Cape May it is a nightly trip. read more
