Dr. Jordan seemed really great, but honestly her staff aren't doing her ANY favors. I got fed up with this practice because 1. they don't let you go back, and it's like. WHY that is so weird. 2. there was always a problem with the payment or the insurance or the copay or something. "We only take guardian" or "oops now we only take guardian, ppo, 2.0, double max, bacon and cheese" just, enough already. If this practice could get competent staff to expand thr insurance they accept and streamline their appointment and reception, they would be in good shape. I'd give this place zero stars if I could. I was told my child had 4 cavities. Because I'm tight on money, I asked my own dentist for a second opinion. She let me know that only two of the cavities really needed taking care of, and that the other ones could be watched. When I asked Washington Pediatric Dentistry to just take care of those two cavities, I was told that my child was inactive and no longer could come there. I'm sorry, are we in middle school? Just asking for copies of your own child's xray is apparently not allowed. Also, it cost $ to get those copies. Be aware - this place only cares about making money. We initially had good experiences here but our last visit was terrible. As others mentioned, they don't let you go back with your child for their appointment. This is, of course, crazy. My 4 year old cannot answer or ask questions about his oral health. He also doesn't know the staff and whisking him away makes this a scarier visit, which will make it harder for us to take him to a dentist next time. They also insisted on x-rays, which I later learned are not recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. At the end of his cleaning, they called me back and made him wait in the waiting room by himself. Instead of the dentist talking to me, a hygienist went over his x-rays with me. She claims he has 4 cavities and needs 4 crowns. These are only visible on the x-rays, of course. Since I've never heard of a 4 year old needing crowns we are going to get a second opinion. I asked for the images and they printed them on an inket printer, as if any other dentist would accept that. After asking repeatedly, they finally sent me the images over email. I don't know folks, it all felt like bullshit. I have no idea if the dentist even saw my son and I didn't talk to her. The staff were rude and full of unearned condescension. I can't believe someone who went to dental school and presumably is trying to run a successful business thinks it's a good idea to do the work in secret and not speak to parents. Avoid! read more

I am not sure why communication at this office is so difficult. We initially liked Dr. Jordan and my young kids felt comfortable at the practice. What first started to irk me was that when my 4 year old came back for additional work, multiple times, the staff acted like I was creating a problem by wanting to go back with her (which she absolutely expected and was part of the way we had prepped for the experience. She is not even school age!). My daughter went back for another cleaning with my husband and was resistant to repeat X rays (which she'd had before, but wasn't prepped to expect that day), so they pressured my husband into rescheduling the X rays to be done with nitrous oxide. I felt this was unnecessary (she's done X-rays before but had been specifically told NOT to expect them that day -- again, she's 4) and I was not sure how my daughter would react on nitrous. I tried calling but couldn't get through to the dentist. When I took my daughter to the appointment, I asked to speak about the nitrous plan. A tech with a very forbidding attitude came out to speak to me in the lobby and basically bully me into agreeing to the nitrous. It couldn't have been plainer that she considered me a problem parent questioning her professional opinion, when I merely wanted to discuss it. Then once again I couldn't accompany my young child back to the room. (I fully understand why I can't be in the room for X-rays, but it should surprise no one that a 4 year old is less cooperative when her parent cannot be present with her while she's getting settled in.) I've never EVER encountered any other dentist that had an issue with this -- including the practice we switched to. My kid did fine with the nitrous oxide but that's not really the point. Parents should be able to talk to dentists and technicians in a respectful, informative, open way. This was impossible at Washington Pediatric Dentistry, so we left. read more

Really love Dr. Jordan but not impressed with their communication or billing team. Since our last visit they stopped taking our insurance (but not the whole insurance plan, they now don't take the federal plan) but we were never given that information and it took me weeks of calling their office to even get any sort of response. And I actually only got a straight answer when I called my insurance. So double and triple check that they actually take your insurance plan before going since they won't tell you! read more

Increased base cleaning price 30% and failed to provide any notice except on the plexiglass inside once you arrive. They originally told me X-rays were included then after I paid told me they were not included at which point I discovered the huge hidden hike that makes service at least $100 more than other (frankly nicer) pediatric practices in the area without dental insurance. If you choose this practice, be aware that parents are not usually permitted to be with their child when they see the dentist. In four years, we were "allowed" by the front desk staff to talk with the dentist just once. We had no idea what was going on with our children's dental health - my kids are old enough that I didn't need to oversee but I did need to know why certain procedures were necessary (esp the use of nitrous for routine procedures), but the front desk staff prohibited any conversation. My high school age child also complained about being treated like a toddler by the dentist. I did not feel welcome in this practice, particularly by the front desk staff. Without being able to speak with the dentist it is hard to develop trust. It felt like they were only interested in the financial transaction. This culminated in a truly astounding financial mess after we switched insurance. Missteps included insisting that they were not in-network when they were in fact in-network, insisting repeatedly that they would not be submitting to my insurance but then doing the opposite, refusing to provide me with a receipt showing charges for the full amount paid, and instead providing a receipt for a lesser amount, submitting to my insurance without telling me (and after they had insisted they would not and could not do so) and directing the reimbursement check to them after they had required me to pay in full and, after being paid twice (by me and the insurance company), insisting on an unnecessary two week delay in issuing a refund (yet to be received). All with no apology or acknowledgment of their communication errors (which were in writing, by email) and often lengthy delays in even responding. Overall, a deeply disappointing experience and I would not recommend Washington Pediatric Dentistry to anyone, particularly if you are looking for a long-term relationship with your dentist. read more

I am not only extremely dissatisfied with Washington Pediatric Dentistry, but I am also disgusted by them. I am changing from 5 stars to 1 star, I wish I could give them zero stars. I had a horrible experience on my last appointment. I made an appointment for my 5-year-old at 1PM Friday. I took off work to attend to the appointment for my child. We left home early that day for the appointment, but unfortunately, we got stuck in the road because of some accident and road maintenance on our way. But anyway, we were able to get there just 10 min late. The receptionist told me to reschedule our appointment because we were 10 min late in a very rude and disrespectful way. I tried to explain to them what had happened, and I told them we are traveling to Africa next week for a long time. You cannot even believe their attitude, I just kept trying to explain to them, but they just ignored what I was saying completely and kept saying you have to reschedule and tell me their next availability. I was like, are you even listening to what I am saying? We are traveling. I can't reschedule. I told them I can wait until the dr. take care of everybody, and she can see us last, they said it is Friday they need to go home early. I begged them to the point I almost cried. They are pure evil. I don't know why DR. Jordan hired this kind of unprofessional receptionist. It was a nightmare experience for me. I'll never see that place again. Please go somewhere else. I was referred to Washington Pediatric Dentistry by another dental office in Silver Spring and I am happy that I was. The environment is modern, bright and kid-friendly. Although my visit(s) were a bit frustrating, the ladies at the front desk went above and beyond to ensure that my experience as a parent went smoothly. It's appreciated. My daughter had to have two procedures on her teeth and they were able to get both done within two days; I was impressed. Also, Dr. Marian Jordan is awesome. She knows exactly what children need to have a great experience at the dentist and my daughter spoke very highly of her. The conversations during the procedures were awesome! Took my two-year-old here for her first dental visit. Though we had explained to my daughter what the dentist was and watched a cartoon about it, she was still a bit difficult once it was time for the examination but Dr. Jordan and the hygienist worked through her tantrum in a calm and flexible way. The Cocomelon playing on the tv helped! They explained everything they were going to do to my daughter and I before it was done and afterwards, Dr. Jordan explained her findings, asked if I had any questions, gave us a plan for moving forward, and also then ran through everything in a summary fashion to make sure I didn't miss anything. Afterwards, my daughter got a goodie bag and they let her run around and experiment with the chairs so that she could just get comfortable with the space for her next visit. Very clean and welcoming, modern kid-friendly office space, and convenient hours. Appointments were running on time, and both the dentist and hygienist were friendly and clearly enjoy working with children (not always the case!). Cleaning and exams were thorough and there was plenty of time to discuss any concerns. Treasure chest at the end and sugar-free suckers were a nice touch that reinforced the positive experience for the kids. We are happy to have found this place and will definitely make her our regular dentist. read more
