I got called slurs on a daily bases multiple times a day by many different kids. I was bullied so relentlessly that i couldn't even make it past November Break my 10th grade year and that was after wanting to leave the school 2 weeks into my 9th grade year. I had one friend who watched someone come up to me and say that i should go to bible study group so that they can "fix my problem" referring to the fact that I'm gay and then that friend brought me to that bible study group where they tried and failed to convert me. After this I only had two or three friends out of the whole school who didn't betray me the rest of my time there There were many other worse things that happened at this school that I will get into during therapy but not a yelp review I HIGHLY suggest that if your child is not a football playing asshole then DO NOT send them here ESPECIALLY if they are queer or different in anyway cause they will picked on until they can't take it anymore! Leaving this school was the best decision I've ever made for myself, my mental health, and all over well being as a person. The teachers I had were the only good part of this school and I will stand by that till I die. I highly suggest rethinking this school if its on your list to check out!

Our oldest is now a senior in high school and is earning the IB diploma at San Diego High (feeder school). He really learned a lot at Roosevelt, and I credit his Roosevelt teachers for laying the foundation he needed to achieve so much in High School. The family community at Roosevelt is wonderful. The parents are all very welcoming and helpful. They have fun, laid-back special events where everyone can have a good time. The campus is really nice (it was recently renovated), centrally located, and my kids love being right next door to the zoo. We just attended open house, and as always, I was blown away by the teachers. They all seem to really love being at Roosevelt and take special care of each student individually. They make learning fun, which can be hard in middle school. The academic rigor can be challenging, but the kids are supported while they learn. My kids have a special appreciation for a lot of their Roosevelt teachers, and the older one even keeps in touch with a few after all these years. The new principal, McGee (she started in 2025/26), is a great leader for this school and makes parents feel like they are a part of their students' education, keeps us informed, and seems to have great campus management. We feel that the campus is safe and the kids are cared for by all of the staff. Overall, I would highly recommend Roosevelt. One of our kids attended a charter school many years ago that didn't work out well, and it ended up highlighting the benefit of attending neighborhood public schools - they are special places.

She came home smiling from ear to ear and LOVED her first day. I chalked it up as a shinny new object, and waited for it to maybe fade. That has yet to happen. She LOVES going to school. She is thriving, she is challenged in her classes, and has met new friends from our surrounding neighborhoods. Roosevelt has accelerated Math and English classes, fantastic science and social studies teachers. Mr. Garcia and Mrs. Peterson, in 6th grade, inspired my daughter in ways she has never been inspired and challenged before. My daughter was also able to participate in Girls In Science with San diego Zoo after school once a week! And all ASE (after school enrichment) offerings are FREE to students! Also, with a competitive middle school sports program, Roosevelt is the ONLY SDUSD to offer many sports with a JV (Junior Varsity) program. Roosevelt offers a great balance of Arts, Music, and Athletics. This is a fantastic neighborhood middle school and IB to boot! (and remarks about fights and drug use.....my daughter has not witnessed one fight this year and only one last year and ZERO drug use.)

Many teachers were insensitive, aloof, ignorant about trauma informed teaching and would not implement support needed to succeed in school, despot the IEPs. Was a single mom and was not rich, so couldn't fight the system, nor did I have time, while I was working and putting self through nursing school and managing a physically I'll child and a mentally ill child. I Moved to SD for work- and researched schools so my youngest child could succeed in high school. I study trauma and how it prevents learning. So I wanted a school that was culturally sensitive and the teaches are mindful of the various background and situations the children came from. What a blessing E3 is. My youngest child of my 3 kids LOVES ALL the teachers and looks forward to going to school for once. I observed student:-teacher interactions at the back to school night and noticed that all teacher we met have an element of care, compassion, and are vested in student success. They treat students with respect and they were genuinely friendly with the students. Throughout the years there was one great teacher here and there that my kids would get. But it was a gamble and some school years were horrible, some years were full of learning. However, at E3 - ALL of my child's teachers are amazing, knowledgeable, and foster a relationships with him. It was endearing to watch the teacher-student interaction with other students as well- these students trusted and actually enjoyed the teachers. E3 has free tutoring included with school if your child needs it. I did not have the finances to pay for tutoring when my older children were in high school. So, one of my children barely graduated. They experienced traumatic experiences from teachers, teacher assistants giving answers when "helping" a child with tests (found out after a course of years). It was horrible. - E3 is a newer school that has the frame work to educate students and model emotionally healthy interactions so they are successful in life. Highly recommended. The PA Center was immediately to my left as I pulled onto campus, very easy to find and parking was extremely close too! I also viewed the theater seating chart online to pick my seat. I really loved that it showed me which seats would have a blocked view, encouraging me to pick another one. The theater seemed much larger online than it actually was. So when I chose a front row seat, I had no idea I would be "kick up my feet onto the stage" close. It was still a great seat and I could see the entire performance. The acoustics were good as was the lighting. They could definitely use another bathroom, one is not enough!
