The new principle Mr. Dyste gave me chills and watery eyes when he introduced himself and the vision he had for the future of both campuses the beginning of this year. What made me never question another school has been the friendships and overall community my kids have experience the past years. Now that mixed with the changes and improvements the current staff has made it truly has cultivated an amazing learning and continuously growing establishment. This is my first year being on the parent volunteer networking group and I love this group of parents! I entered the first meeting super nervous but with this personable group of people after 20 minutes we all felt very comfortable. Lauren, the head of the PVN is so cool , full of creative and clever ideas. The school events are so epic and it's because of her and the team on the PVN. The school is small, but that is what we wanted. It guarantees Mr. Dyste, Mr. Tony, Mrs. Martinez and Mr. Kevin a close eye on all of the teachers and students. It has always been a 5 star school but it's definitely exceeding 6 on its way to 7!!!

This can only be a testament to the amazing, loving, nurturing, motivating staff. EVERY SINGLE member of the staff TRULY loves their job and their school. From the crossing guard staff saying good bye as we walk home to the warm smiles given out by everyone we see. The principal Mr. Iriqui has a huge presence on campus and I've heard him greet and say good bye to each child by name. It's one of those places that you go to and you can really tell the staff enjoys what they do. Our youngest had a tough start to TK and the staff really embraced her and made her feel at ease. Now she's sad that it's the weekend and no school for 2 days. The school has so many activities for the children as well as the parents. Safety and a healthy learning environment is top priority for everyone. I was blessed to help out with picture day last week and got to meet all the kids and teachers from every grade level. This is truly a special place. The kids were all so well behaved. Their teachers were amazing at keeping large groups of kids calm without being nasty. The children with special needs, omgosh the love that poured out of every single teacher was unbelievable. All the teachers know these kids and truly love them and the children definitely know it! The principal, Mrs. Rabasco is fairly new to the school. This is only her 2nd year. She is amazing. From day 1 she knew my child, she knows all the other children by name as well. She has kids standing in lines to give her hugs. She is also completely immersed in the neighborhood even though she doesnt live here. She attends the Spring Valley community meetings and does everything she can to help the neighborhood that La Presa is in , which in exchange helps the families and kids here as well. This place is truly an amazing school and everyone should give it a shot before judging a school without even meeting the staff and taking a tour. I got horribly bullied. called names, cursed out and called a variety of slurs on the regular, so much so that I had to change my name. I also got assaulted and inappropriately touched often. all authority figures at the school did nothing to stop all of this. I'm not hyperbolizing. I went into this school a happy kid, thinking the world is great and everyone has something good in them. I left with a horrible anxiety disorder, plenty of trauma, and probably other stuff I haven't even discovered. I highly recommend sending your kids anywhere but here. I've heard Farb middle is okay, and its less than a mile from De Portola. the free food and slightly better teachers are not worth the horrible people at the school. before 8th grade promotion we were told to fill out a little form about our experience. I was brutally honest and it blew their minds. I just wanna say that I did everything right during middle school. when there was a problem I tried to fix it, brought it to adults, and did everything I could to try and make it stop. but instead of keeping me safe. the teachers and principal and all the adults were focused on how punishment would affect the aggressors. I had such a horrible experience here that in my 9th grade year I wrote a 7 page narrative essay BRIEFLY summarizing everything that happened. the teacher read it and wanted to talk to me. all of this is disorganized thoughts and stories bout this place. but what I'm trying to say is that you should avoid this place. also. thank you to Mr Labrador for teaching me to be strong and refuse to take crap. thank you to Mrs Hudson for trying your best to help me. And I sense many more exclamation points throughout this review!! Friday's chill on the hill was the highlight of my week. There is an awesome mural on the side of the library building. Breadsticks with ranch or tomato sauce was my lunch of choice, i hope they still have it!! Weekly monkey bars tests and timed half mile runs and capture the flag and high jumps...oh how i miss PE. Learned to make french toast and rice krispie treats and eggs in a basket in home ec!! Middle school was some of the toughest years, but De Portola made it totally worthwhile!!
