He likes the fact German is once a week as well. He did take the DSD recently. AfterStein is a huge plus! So many different activities from board games to Bob Ross Painting to D&D! My son and friends enjoy chess. They have received a positive response as to starting a chess club for AfterStein. They were told tentatively yes if and when they have a teacher for the class to monitor. There are 2 drop off locations (front and back). I will say the front drop off gets much more congested.

When my child did something minor like gossiping they threatened to suspend her. But when kids vape, fight in bathrooms, make social media accounts cyperbullying kids, the staff don't do anything. Teachers are constantly leaving because of the kids. The kids are horrible and aren't taught well here. DON'T send your child here. The teachers who frightened my child were Mr. Trakas (former principal of the school who got fired) & countless other staff like Ms. Brenda. Others include Ms. Veronica Laroche who didn't do anything to help out how my child felt . Overall she is not a good person!!!. Don't fall for the false advertising this school feeds you. They will say things like exchanges, German language offerings, clubs, and feeling supported here. FALSE, the German program at the Middle School is horrible. The exchanges you have to PAY are not free and its super long process. The clubs offered here are all horrible. The clubs here are pointless and kids barely go to them. Again, don't come here! Enroll your child in another school and save them from a horrible middle school experience.

I did bring it up to SDUSD Officials throughout my daughter's 2 years at this school. Sadly, there was no response, nor improvements in the Infrastucture, administration, nor support resources. There are some old reviews on this site! Our son has been at San Diego High School for 3 years…read more(just going into senior year), and our experience with the school has been very positive. The teachers are excellent. The administration does a great job in difficult circumstances (funding has dropped every year). The range of options that are available is greater than any other school in San Diego unified (lots of electives). The partnership with the community college allows students to take college-level classes for free, in person, on the San Diego high school campus. Also, personally, I think the diversity of the student body is a positive. Our son now knows kids from many different countries and cultures, and with different life experiences.

My son is bright, yet he fell behind when he started a new school. We moved and he had to start…read morehigh school in a different area. He moved from the traditional schedule to the year round. So, he started his new school in the middle of the school semester. He started his new high school year behind from the start. They placed him in a cram course that allowed him to catch up. When he caught up, they threw him in regular classes and he became frustrated. From then on he had some difficulties adjusting to his new school. I called the counselor and also spoke to the Asst. Principal for help. I never had the chance to meet with the principal, because he was always at a meeting. They gave me the run around. My son asked me for help, and I tried to get the help from the school. No one would listen. This was at San Ysidro High School. It was a brand new school at the time, yet the staff was terrible. I tried to transfer him to a different school, but could not. So, my family decided to move out of Southbay. His new school was San Diego High School. But, this school was now in session. I figured he would fall behind again and go the same path as he did at San Ysidro. So, I found San Diego Charter School of San Diego. Our plan was to have him catch up in credits and attend San Diego High School for the next year. Anyways, It was an independent study program, but you also attend 4 hours a day in a classroom in Horton Plaza. My son was catching up. He was doing well, until his teacher misplaced his homework file. The teacher asked him to do 3 classes over again. My son became frustrated again. I became frustrated. My son regressed from then on. He lost interest in school and stopped trying. He had no motivation and asked if he could drop out. He wanted to wait until he turned 18 and go for his GED. I made an appointment to meet with the counselor and she never called back. I called his teacher and found out that he quit on the spot. I found out that my son had no teacher for a while and the help were the teacher assistants. SO, I went on my school search again. I met a really great counselor at San Diego High School. He told me that my son could start second semester, but would be behind. He then mentioned Garfield High School. I looked it up on the internet. But, I found this young mans profile, instead. It was a brief bio of his life. He was a very smart kid, but got lost in the school system. He wrote that he found Garfield High School's Oracle Program. He stated that his life changed after that and now he is working on his Masters Degree in Psychology. This was inspiring. I decided to search for this school. I called Garfield High School. They told me about Oracle. My son had to pass a placement test. He passed and was accepted to the program. He started his senior year, but only had the same amount of credits as a sophmore. He started the school a little depressed. To make a long story short, his teacher is excellent. She will not give up on the kids here. My son is now only a semester behind in graduating. He is motivated and his self esteem is higher than before. He is looking into college now, rather than the GED. He has had some rough times and struggled, but his teacher never stopped pushing him. She saw his potential and she continues to keep her faith in him. I am so grateful that she came into his life and that this Oracle program exists. Everyone there is nice and the receptionist is great too. I cannot say anything negative about this school. It is the best thing that happened to my son. It helped me too! Mrs. Brisky is her name! The greatest teacher that my son has ever had!!!!!!!!!!!!! She listened to me and she listened to my son. She never ignored us and made sure that he would get back on track!!!! If you have a child in high school that is struggling, please look into this school. This is a great place for a high school teen that needs the extra push and would enjoy a non-traditional school. You work at your own pace, but at the same time have a deadline. There is independence, you can work at home, but you can also go on campus for more structure. I have 3 special-needs children and 2 graduated from from a prestigious division 1 high school…read more I have had horrible experiences with many schools and had to move to different schools through the years for my kids to get the education thy needed. Many teachers were insensitive, aloof, ignorant about trauma informed teaching and would not implement support needed to succeed in school, despot the IEPs. Was a single mom and was not rich, so couldn't fight the system, nor did I have time, while I was working and putting self through nursing school and managing a physically I'll child and a mentally ill child. I Moved to SD for work- and researched schools so my youngest child could succeed in high school. I study trauma and how it prevents learning. So I wanted a school that was culturally sensitive and the teaches are mindful of the various background and situations the children came from. What a blessing E3 is. My youngest child of my 3 kids LOVES ALL the teachers and looks forward to going to school for once. I observed student:-teacher interactions at the back to school night and noticed that all teacher we met have an element of care, compassion, and are vested in student success. They treat students with respect and they were genuinely friendly with the students. Throughout the years there was one great teacher here and there that my kids would get. But it was a gamble and some school years were horrible, some years were full of learning. However, at E3 - ALL of my child's teachers are amazing, knowledgeable, and foster a relationships with him. It was endearing to watch the teacher-student interaction with other students as well- these students trusted and actually enjoyed the teachers. E3 has free tutoring included with school if your child needs it. I did not have the finances to pay for tutoring when my older children were in high school. So, one of my children barely graduated. They experienced traumatic experiences from teachers, teacher assistants giving answers when "helping" a child with tests (found out after a course of years). It was horrible. - E3 is a newer school that has the frame work to educate students and model emotionally healthy interactions so they are successful in life. Highly recommended. Put your child on the list.

Bathrooms are locked during times that faculty has decided is inappropriate for students to use the restroom. Time and resources are put toward unnecessarily strict rules on both students and staff, all while students are struggling to reach the level of education they should have been at years ago. Teachers and students a trying to do their best but the administration is suffocating any progress that teachers work toward.
