I can not recommned this school to anyone, its a complete joke, I've had two little brothers go to this school and one requested to be held back, he is now in his 3rd year of high school and thriving, while the other expects to be promoted with no show of work, both have had IEP and the schools don't follow though with these IEP, behavoral issues, lack of effort, emotional issues (which we have addressed at every turn) crule and unruly behavior, tardy's etc. Yet Lewis insists on promoting due to "No Child Left Behind" apparently this is their motto, NO your leaving a child behind and throwing him into the wolves den expecting him to excel, your reports show he needs another year and yet his parent has said no he needs another year you keep throwing the "No Child Left Behind" cocomami BS! how do you expect a child to excel when you arent giving him the necessary recources, expect continually using his IEP as ammo, when his IEP clearly shows hes lacking in all areas of education, how can you expect him to achieve anything when you don't hold him accountable. This is why the world is as it is becuase ADULTS who are supposed to supoort our students FAIL them OVER AND OVER!!!! An ok middle school with a large enough parking lot, doesn't take a lot of effort to drive around to find a spot, easy to navigate, minus the fact of the traffic when school out, vehicles heading in 3 different directions, but only one way to get out to the main street, in between there's a stop sign and a construction that blocked off traffic trying to get out. Hate that because as I picked up the kid who went to school here, I can't get out fast enough. read more

I went here not too long ago and it was not a very pleasant experience. The principal Mr.Phillips was very rude and difficult to work with. If you were doing something even the smallest thing he would give you detention. I dont know if other people have had similar experiences with him but when I would tey to use the bathroom and he saw me enter, he would follow me in while I was in a vulnerable state trying to use the restroom. Staff members like Ms. Vern and Ms. Garcia would ignore you and walk away if you tried to talk to them and treated you similar to how Mr. Philips treated people. There were some nice teaches and some more unpleasant ones but they were not ever a problem when I went. Overall it was mainly the staff in the office who made me not enjoy going to this school and I hope it has improved since I have left. read more

I used to go to this middle school 7 years ago and I can say for a fact that some teachers are racist, especially Ms.Dietz. I am an Asian American and she always mixes my name with another Asian in the class even though we look nothing alike. This has affected my grade strongly. When we do Socratic seminar, she always gives the other student the point instead of me. There are regular school fights in the lunch quad and staff barely make an effort to stop them. Mr. Strothers and Mr. Christ are the only good teachers I can say off the top of my head. Would I recommend this middle school for any upcoming sixth graders? Yes, but just avoid Ms.Dietz and don't get yourself involved in drama or else you'll find yourself being tackled into a lunch table with students recording every angle. read more

This is an amazing school! I am now in my second year at Lewis, and everyone has been great! All of the teachers are amazing, especially Mrs. Oshiro. I am currently participating in JMUN, and both Mrs. Oshiro and Mrs. Pearson have been amazing, helping me when I need it and just overall being great teachers. I would highly recommend this school to anyone. One thing that I would note though, is that the hallways can get very crowded and chaotic. Overall though, great school to learn and grow, and I hope that other kids have as great of a time as I am. read more

We have been very happy with our experience at Lewis Middle School. Mr. Callahan is a great principal. Very involved with the kids, yet maintains their respect. I was nervous about the size of the school being too large, but the teachers are caring and available. As a parent there are opportunities to be involved. read more

I came here to apply and they did not accept me because I had bad grades, they made us wait for five hours and then took the student behind us that was really messed up and you're not gonna accept us tell us you're not gonna accept rather than make us wait for five hours and then just ignore us. read more

Hello to whomever maybe reading this, I would like to add a follow up review to my first of Lewis Middle School. First of all I would like to inform that my son and I did win the appeal at the San Diego Unified School District office!! The men and woman overseeing the case were very intelligent and able to distinguish a viable claim from a non-viable claim unlike the principal and vice-principal at Lewis Middle School. They could tell that the evidence was overwhelming in my sons favor and not the younv lady making the false claim. Even though we have won the petition I still would highly recommend to steer any student away from this campus!! The principal still gave no apologies for his unreasonable actions! I hope the school board will soon remove him from his position. I don't say this in anger but for the sake of a fair and reasonable system that should be upheld which he choose to ignore!! You need to question all and take character references before making judgment not just jump the gun like a hot head your an adult with authority act like it!! Well anyway my boys will be out of this school a.s.a.p and word of the wise to all parents keep your kids away from this school!!! At least until the upper management has been removed or moved!! Thank you to any readers that have read and spoken out,to all that helped bringing justice to my sons case and to the school board for seeing through an irresponsible principals plain negligence of a very serious investigation and clearing a innocent young mans name so that he may continue his education in the path he is intended to be on. This is our first year at Lewis Middle School. We were previously at another school, which we had many issues with. My child had so much anxiety about going to school and definitely lacked confidence. Moving was scary because I knew he would have to start all over again, however, I hoped that a fresh start would be good for him. Being an educator in the district myself, I asked around and heard nothing but rave reviews about this Middle School. Before the year even started, the assistant principal combed through my child's file and noticed that he was placed in classes that were non graduation bound. This was absolutely not something I was aware of. I was so grateful that she was so knowledgeable and caught it quickly so that it could be fixed. I cannot imagine what I would have done finding out later that my son was non diploma bound. :( She was amazing. From the first day of school, the staff has been welcoming and kind. His teachers are firm, yet, caring. They took time to know who he was and dedicate time to learn how he learns best. I was overwhelmed with gratitude because I saw my son go from being a child I had to fight with daily to go to school, to being up early and out the door before I was. My son comes home and raves about the teachers and staff. He has been given the tools he needs to learn and in the cases where he is irresponsible and does not complete something, I know that their policies are fair and in the best interest of the children. I would like to mention his teachers, each and everyone of them has reached out to me in order to help make my son's transition smooth. Mr. Eiselman, PE, Mr. Pucci, Social Studies, Ms. Miller - English, Ms. Krager, Study Skills, Ms. Norman, Math, Mr. Crawford, Science, Ms. Coussa. Every single one of these teachers are absolutely amazing and if your child gets the chance to have one of them, you know they will be getting the best education possible. I also LOVE the office staff, the Principal and the Vice Principals. Thank you Lewis Middle for providing my son with a fun, safe, and academic environment to thrive in. My daughter is about to graduate from high school and she is still suffering from the abuse at the hands of bullies during her time ar Lewis. The principal talked a big game but ultimately did nothing to curb the abusive behavior perpetrated by the other students. That is pretty much what you would expect when even teachers played take the cell phone games and cheered and high fived each other when they confiscated a phone. Very sad and not a nurturing environment for such a sensitive age. read more

My teen just completed 8th grade...and had a very positive Lewis experience. Without a doubt, Principal C. is fair, invested in the programs, the students, his staff & he keep students in line and learning! He manages the school & the daily challenges well. I have witnessed some of the messes, and heard about other challenges....& don't believe many adults could handle or juggle what he deals with daily. These people have a full plate! Lewis is a melting pot of kids from diverse backgrounds. In addition, His staff is proficient, and many of the teachers went beyond my expectations. In particular, Ms. Sandoval is a science teacher who regularly keeps kids AND parents informed of assignments & areas of study where we can engage with our kids to get them to review their lessons. And, I'd like to mention Mr. Hughes who made learning American history more fun. He was named teacher of the year for good reason! Check out their standardized test scores & school rank!
