We have done the transition from AEAE to AEAMS. Our son states he enjoys school here. Most of his…read morefriends stayed so also helps the transition. Our sos says he enjoys his 6th grade classes. He likes the fact German is once a week as well. He did take the DSD recently. AfterStein is a huge plus! So many different activities from board games to Bob Ross Painting to D&D! My son and friends enjoy chess. They have received a positive response as to starting a chess club for AfterStein. They were told tentatively yes if and when they have a teacher for the class to monitor. There are 2 drop off locations (front and back). I will say the front drop off gets much more congested.

When I went to pick up my daughter from the Middle School on Nov 18th during the union rally, it…read morewas immediately clear that the teachers were not the source of any chaos. Their rally was peaceful and organized. The chaos came entirely from two student aides, Ms. V and Ms. Rita, who were on the steps with a group of kids they had gathered. These students were not standing there to protest. They were only trying to get out of the rain, and the aides turned them into an angry mob holding signs. My daughter had to squeeze past the aides and the group of kids they created just to get to the car. She looked confused and anxious, asking why these adults were shouting at Ms. Blackman, her former fifth grade teacher, and at the other teachers who were peacefully holding the rally. She could not understand why Ms. V and Ms. Rita who are supposed to protect and guide students were the ones escalating the situation and involving kids who clearly did not choose to be part of any of this. Because of what I witnessed and how shaken my daughter was afterward, we have decided to pull her out of AEA at the end of the semester. No parent should have to watch their child feel scared or confused because school staff chose to involve students in an adult conflict. My daughter kept talking about it the entire ride home, she did not understand why the very people who are supposed to look out for kids were yelling and stirring things up. At that point, it became clear to us that this is not the environment we want her in.

I have 3 special-needs children and 2 graduated from from a prestigious division 1 high school…read more I have had horrible experiences with many schools and had to move to different schools through the years for my kids to get the education thy needed. Many teachers were insensitive, aloof, ignorant about trauma informed teaching and would not implement support needed to succeed in school, despot the IEPs. Was a single mom and was not rich, so couldn't fight the system, nor did I have time, while I was working and putting self through nursing school and managing a physically I'll child and a mentally ill child. I Moved to SD for work- and researched schools so my youngest child could succeed in high school. I study trauma and how it prevents learning. So I wanted a school that was culturally sensitive and the teaches are mindful of the various background and situations the children came from. What a blessing E3 is. My youngest child of my 3 kids LOVES ALL the teachers and looks forward to going to school for once. I observed student:-teacher interactions at the back to school night and noticed that all teacher we met have an element of care, compassion, and are vested in student success. They treat students with respect and they were genuinely friendly with the students. Throughout the years there was one great teacher here and there that my kids would get. But it was a gamble and some school years were horrible, some years were full of learning. However, at E3 - ALL of my child's teachers are amazing, knowledgeable, and foster a relationships with him. It was endearing to watch the teacher-student interaction with other students as well- these students trusted and actually enjoyed the teachers. E3 has free tutoring included with school if your child needs it. I did not have the finances to pay for tutoring when my older children were in high school. So, one of my children barely graduated. They experienced traumatic experiences from teachers, teacher assistants giving answers when "helping" a child with tests (found out after a course of years). It was horrible. - E3 is a newer school that has the frame work to educate students and model emotionally healthy interactions so they are successful in life. Highly recommended. Put your child on the list.

Bathrooms are locked during times that faculty has decided is inappropriate for students to use the restroom. These people have little to no clue how to run an educational facility. The students probably…read morecan't even spell that. Very easy coursework, troubled students, uneducated staff, fires their good staff, etc. I think they have good intentions, big dreams and few great teachers, but I will NOT bet my kid's future on it. This school was just starting out when I enrolled my gifted child there for 9th grade. They gave us the impression this school was pushing children to go above and beyond traditional schools - yeah right. My child was hospitalized and they gave her several in-completes for classes like gym that she missed while in the hospital for several months. They were extremely disorganized and had no idea how to handle her situation. Now, over a year later, the situation is the same. Now, this star student that is on the Principal's List and had a 4.0, now has a 2.5 for that year and is still missing credits needed to graduate. I will be enrolling her into a different school. Let's just hope her credits transfer.

I attended this high school for only three years. After the third year, I moved to another charter…read moreschool because this high school was the WORSE and I mean it! There's many teachers and staff members with no teaching credentials or past experience with teaching. I remember there were a couple of teachers who pretty much did not know how to handle situations. One being a young Mathematics teacher who did not know how to handle the class when a fight happened between two classmates. Usually she would just cry and that made me feel bad. I blame the school for accepting her and bringing her to such a bad environment. A year later she was fired because she was not fit to be a teacher. Honestly that's not on her. Another teacher we had was this Chemistry teacher and he didn't teach us much. All we did was do our work on the computers. NO LECTURES and honestly I did not learn a thing. Seriously, please don't bring teachers to a place where they can be easily humiliated and bullied by disrespectful and immature students. Not only that but the principal, Kevin Bradshaw, is the worse. This guy, former drug addict and all, was made principal without even having a teaching credential! That is just disgraceful. Not only that but he was such a narcissist. He dragged about the second chance in life he got after getting free from drugs and would even have us watch his pathetic documentary like 5 times in our Freshman year. Honestly, this guy thinks like he won a Nobel Prize or earned himself something SO BIG out his little "redemption story arc". He also showed poor leadership. Most of the time the guy was never to be seen in campus. At the time the school had two buildings and since I was at the main building, we thought he was at the other one. But it turns out that the Freshman from that building never knew who Bradshaw was. So makes me question where and what the heck this guy did throughout the whole day. But whenever he was around, oh it was a show! He would always yell and scold the students. And whenever somebody opposed what he said, they were immediately shut up by him. From what I've heard, he was also like this when he pulled out somebody to his office. BOTH STUDENTS AND TEACHERS. He would scold them for minutes and he never let others speak. He never listened to their part of the story. To add to this, he would have his admins vulture around the campus. They would enter EVERY classroom EVERYDAY. They would watch the students and whenever a student was caught doing something they shouldn't be doing (ex: eating Cheetos, having a hood on, being on the phone, etc), they would immediately pull out the teacher from their class and have them be scolded by Bradshaw. This is just terrible. Not only that but also, one of the teachers quitted because he just singled out for a student wearing a hoodie. And his class was interrupted because he was taken out to speak with Bradshaw. I also had another teacher who secretly told students how his mental health couldn't handle the harsh and abusive nature of the principal's talks. There's a lot to talk about this school but yeah, this school is the worse and I hope it gets shut down for good. Tired of how people praise this school for what it's not. Also, I have MANY other stories about the school and its cartoony principal and admins.
