Pershing middle school is kinda mid. Most teachers are nice, and they will help you if u need anything. The school looks really nice, and theirs a lot of things you can tryout for. Although, the school can't afford enough lockers for the 6th graders so half of the 6th graders don't have lockers. Also, in my opinion I'm not the biggest fan of 6th graders camp. The cabin lowkey looks like a prison and the beds are not too comfortable. I caught a tick on me one time so if you have a fear of bugs, don't go because there is stink bugs, fire ants, bullet ants, and a lot other bugs. read more

Im currently in 6th grade and i turned in a book a few months late, but thats besides the point. They're making me pay $10 for a book i turned yet their stupid staff dont have the patience to look nor check for their books. The new librarian cant do stuff on her own and force students to do it. The ladies running the cafeteria *except for the one who makes us type in our student id / the ones helping out the special needs kids* they make us leave and ban us from the cafeteria for the rest of the year just for standing up while eating, or quickly going in to talk to our friends. And the lunch cafeteria was made for people to go in and talk to their friends on break, not a bunch of rude staff shouting at us. On Tuesdays, and Thursdays, there is a new teacher who comes in. From what I know about him his name is "Mr.Moon" and he is a fairly polite guy, but the weird thing about him is that he never pulls up his pants and so whenever he bends down from a table opposite of yours you can see his buttocks. One time his pants were pulled down so far down i could see his pubic hair. He is unhygenic and most times smells bad, and whenever hes near me or at my table his hair snows. I can tell he does not wear any sort of underwear based off of past experiences. Overall first year at pershing is terrible and i dont reccommend this school in the slightest. read more

this school wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's still terrible, but some teachers are good, at least half of the staff are nice, there are actually nice and sweet people there, and the food might be bad but the apples are DELICIOUS(the bagged ones). it could definitely improve by a lot, but there are teachers that give the school a bad reputation because of how strict they are. I've seen lots of kids smoke weed and heard about kids doing the no-no (and kissing in the halls lmao) here too that havent been caught (though I did tell a teacher about the weed thing cuz shes basically my favorite teacher) and there are rumors and nasty truths that do go around a lot of the time. Most kids joke around but are lowkey homophobic and I've heard a lot of Mexican and African American kids say the n-word along with a couple of white kids too so watch out for that! We were here for a 2-day soccer tournament. The fields are perfect! 2 stars! The parking is a nightmare. My husband is disabled so we always park in a handicap space. I am not sure what idiot put handicap parking the furthest away from the stairs that you have to walk up to the fields. Although, my husband does not need a wheelchair, we had to walk so far that we had to take breaks. Then the amount of stairs to walk up my husband could barely walk to our assigned field. I went here for 2 years and would very much not recommend. I moved school mostly because the teachers may no mind to anything that the students are doing unless they turn in the hw late or on phone. Not if a student is getting bullied, skipping class, etc. I now go to a different school in the district (The charter school of San Diego) and like it much more, my last year at Pershing I asked my peers what they thought of the school. One of my friends who also moved schools because of Pershing and they had the same perspective as me. NOT because "we are just kids who don't want to work" or "just complaining" everyone who has moved school is MUCH happier and still doing the same if not more amount of work. I would not recommend this school for your students especially 6th graders who are just now coming to the school. The 6th grade science teachers (or at least back when I saw in 6th grade) were EXTREMELY harsh and most every teacher didn't care about your personal well being as long as you turned in your work. Even then all you would get was bland "thanks" lunch break is very short and most teachers wouldn't let students go to the bathroom which in the state of California is illegal, so I would not recommend this school read more

it sucks. the teachers are mean and don't let us pick teams in P.E. not to mention the amount of bullying. I'm in 7th grade and have hated my time at Pershing middle school. the lunches are disgusting. 1 in 10 pizzas will have a bunch of mold underneath the "cheese". my friend found a hole BUG in her salad. the after-school sports tryouts are rigged. if you know the coaches they automatically put you on the team. WE DON'T HAVE AN ART ELECTIVE. most of the teachers are karens. last year we had an OPTIONAL SCHOOL DAY. the amount of learning time lost by kids screencasting their computers to the boards is unbelievable. This is my daughter's first year at Pershing and she loves it! The principal and staff are very friendly. Students check out personal laptops for the year, they take home a set of textbooks to keep at home for the year, so they don't have to carry them back and forth everyday. My daughter is learning a lot and feels comfortable there. Also, they might continue the Spanish immersion program that started at Gage (where my youngest is at) which I think would be fantastic! read more

I really don't recommend parents sending your child to this school. The three years I was at that school, they barely did anything to prepare us for high school, at least in my experience. I'm a student who has an IEP and who struggles to understand things so quickly. My grades were literally terrible; they were either F's or D's and only classes I had good enough grades where in P.E, applied English and applied math, the old orchestra teacher was harsh on me and never truly helped me when I was struggling, which was all the time, I never knew how to read the notes and never will. The vice principal was- and always will be stupid. I once didn't want to go to tutoring because the teacher NEVER helped me and there was no point into going so I went to the library and helped the librarian out since I was a TA and like so many other students. They eventually found out that I wasn't going and went to search for me around the school until they found me and called my mom over, he told her that was skipping the tutoring and that I shouldn't be helping out at the library, and told me to go to tutoring when there was no point because my mom was mad for the fact she had to get off work for something she already knew. My brother goes to that school and he has gotten into trouble but the most two recent ones is that one kid had a water gun and obviously sprayed water on the students, the vice principal; Mr. Hawthorn, called my mom and told her that my brother was there when in reality he was never there, he's always looking for an excuse/opportunity to call students parents to get them in trouble in something they were never involved with, the other this is about a boy who's been asking pictures of girls and has been laughing about them with his friends. One of the girls had been one of my brothers friends and they tried to tell the school but the school said I wasn't any of their business and wiped their hands off the topic. The only reason why they wouldn't do anything is because his parents are donating money to the school and solely because they're rich. They don't really care about the safety of their own students who are attending the school all they care about is power and money at this point, that's the ONLY reason on why the school is still running. And when Covid hit and we had to stay home for two weeks they didn't want to shut down, they did everything they could to not shut the school down but they eventually had to and opened up the school after the two weeks were up but closed down on the Sunday we were supposedly we're going to school, I was in my last year of that school. I definitely don't recommend this school for you and the safety of your children, and the mental health of your children. read more

seriously the worst school in san Diego. i went to this school all 3 years of middle school.( i now just graduated high school and realized that the way i was treated is while attending this school is horrible.) the vice principal mr. Hawthorne is the biggest piece of shit you will ever meet. he thrives off making kids lives a living hell. he would call my parents almost everyday for the most stupid things, saying i was "going to the wrong bathroom" and telling my mom that i'm a "bully." this school made me so depressed to the point that i wanted help to i went to the school counselor mr. salazar, just to be told that he thinks i'm saying i'm depressed "for attention." who says that to a child. so the biggest fuck you to all the staff at Pershing Middle School, for making my life a living hell and making me suffer in silence for so many years because i was scared i was gonna be told i was faking my depression for "attention" AGIAN. in conclusion i wish you all the absolute worst and i hope you all stub your toes on every floor you ever walk on. read more

I have 4 boys & so far 2 have attended & graduated from Pershing & I have another son currently attending. Pershing is a wonderful school that offers many after school programs & clubs like robotics club, Christian club any many more. They have an awesome drama team who puts on a big play production every year & our very own principal heads it up. Pershing is also one of very few Jr. Highs who offers the chance to attend 6th grade camp. They have a strong foundation who supports the staff & students wonderfully. I would highly recommend this as your child's middle school. They offer tours & meet & greets to give you a warm welcome & help you make sure this is the right fit read more

The transition to middle school has been great for my 6th Grader. Pershing makes an effort to guide incoming students and keeps the 6th Graders separate from the upper grades. The front office staff at Pershing are all very welcoming and patient with questions. The principal and administrators are present on campus and available to parents, and the principal sends out a weekly message so parents can stay in the loop on what is happening on campus. The ASB is active and there are spirit days and other seasonal celebrations for the kids. There is an app that allows you to monitor your student's grades in real time. My student is very happy with all of the teachers. Pershing is one of the few schools left in San Diego that participates in the 6th Grade Camp program, and my student can't wait to go.
