Area51 Lasertag - Another successful lockout!

Area51 Lasertag

I think this place is absolutely ridiculous and I don't think they even deserve a spot on yelp…read more As shown in the picture, we had a group of 18 people. 18!!! It was my friend's birthday and he had originally booked the place out for the all-nighter laser tag package, complete with X-box and pizza. It sounded like a good time, even though it was a few hundred bucks. Pricey, but it'd be pretty awesome to run around with your friends (or enemies), playing laser tag, games and eating pizza. Oh, to be young again. So the contract is signed by the birthday boy and he got all 18 of us to meet up at Area 51 Planet Play in VAUGHAN (We're all from markham...) at 12am. YES. IT'S 12AM-6AM. We must've waited in the parking lot for an hour or so... you know why? Because none of the staff decided to show up. REALLY?!?! YOU TAKE A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS, MAKE US COME AT MIDNIGHT AND DON'T SHOW UP?!?! The confusion for the staff was because we booked for Saturday night 12am, they thought we meant Sunday 12am. But it doesn't even make sense because the contract originally says that it is booked for May 14th on 12am. May 14th at 12am means THE 12AM WHERE SUNDAY BEGINS. WHICH MEANS, THE EVENING OF SATURDAY NIGHT UNTIL DAWN ON SUNDAY. It doesn't matter how you respond to me, or any other review- this place was in the wrong. Booking your staff on the wrong time is 100% your fault, no matter how you word it or try to explain it. In any situation, especially if you want to make this a legal one, May 14th 12AM means 'as soon as midnight comes after May 13th' ...Booking 12am for us after Sunday Dusk would mean that date is MONDAY MAY 15TH already. After the whole ordeal was sorted out, the place offered to give us a discount but refused to give my friend his deposit back because it is a 'contract'... but, you are the ones that originally broke the contract and you're still holding back his deposit?! You are all absolutely ridiculous and disgusting for finding ways to scam people out of their hard earned dollars. In any case, a contract is no longer binding if the party that has set it out has already broken it. It is also troublesome to get 18 people back in the same place at midnight to do it again; people's schedules change. So thank you, Planet play, for effectively wasting all our time. See you never!

Okay it's about time I updated this review. I was gonna wait until I went again, but I have no idea…read morewhen that will be. So, if you read my previous review, you'll know what happened, but they redeemed themselves (to an extent). Ended up going with a very small group, but we still had fun! We had the whole place to ourselves, and play numerous different games that kept the lasertagging quite interesting. The staff there for the evening were super friendly and nice, and even ran around with us inside. The lasertag area was definitely smaller than I expected. One floor with a maze inside. Gets a bit redundant when you know where everything is, and the best hiding spots are though. Communications to set up this small get together wasn't the best though. I was expecting a little more from what happened previously. Although everything ended up working out, there were times were communications were so sporadic and sparse, I needed to send multiple emails just to get a response. They ended up giving me another free lockout to come again with a bigger group, so that was definitely a nice gesture... Will be looking forward to going again, if I can get through to someone to book it.

Arcade games mostly look to be the same offering at the other location, except this location also has an aerial obstacle course and a few that I didnt see at fairview. Food is yuck. Overpriced, dry pizza that's no better than cardboard. Ordered earplugs for our next visit.

The arcade space here is massive featuring many games as well as an elevated rope course and several air hockey tables. We took advantage of the $20 eat up game on deal for kids to have a meal and 1 hr all-you-can-play which can be activated after the meal is eaten to maximize the fun including claw machines. Card fee is extra but can be recharged via a prior game card. There is a large dining space in addition to the party runs ideal for group gatherings. The kids meals were huge, including large pizza slices or burgers that came with fries and a pop drink. Suffice to say our group had a great time at Playdium Whitby for several hours. We miss the old batting diamond at the OG location but this reinvention with Cineplex targets younger kids. Skip it or hit it? Playdium is once again a great place to play and we're glad they're popping up all over the GTA including at this Whitby location.

My sister and I organized a joint birthday celebration for 2 children. We were a party of 7 in…read moretotal. We chose the Combat games option which is a 1 hour block. It's $50 per adult and slightly less for children. You pay for one adult in advance to make the reservation, and the remainder the day of the event. You'll also need to sign waivers before you can participate. The facility is easily accessible just off the south side of Sheppard Avenue. There's adequate parking. You should make sure you check what room you're assigned to, because there are separate entrances around the building. You have to be buzzed in just before your slot. We arrived in time and were greeted by a staff who quickly confirmed our party and led us in. It was very efficient. We were asked to remove our shoes, and we were offered use of the foozball and billiard tables before we began. We were led through to our arean and the restrooms were pointed out to us before beginning. When we reached our assigned room, we had lockers (no locks) provided to us to store our belongings. Then we were ready to begin. Anna, our instructor, took over and explained the rules and equipment we'd be playing with. In addition to our bows and soft tip arrows, we were provided with helmets and arm guards. We were booked with another group of 7 or 8 players. You can reserve a private booking if you wish. The staff assisted with fitting our helmets properly, and demonstrated how to wear our arms guards and load and fire our bows. You can wear indoors only shoes if you bring them, but everyone just wore their socks. The sectioned room is the size of a small gym and the floors are similarly marked with zones. There are large, cushion "bunkers" and 2 sniper "towers" where players can take turns off the ground if they wish. We played a series of target games throughout our session. Anna clearly explained the rules for each set. It's moderately aerobic activity as you will be moving across the floor to target your opponents, and pick up arrows to keep using as you play. You also get sweaty from wearing the helmet. It was a great group activity. Kudos to Anna for keeping things organized and running smoothly. You don't need any prior experience, although it helps to know how to use your arm guard properly. Bruises inside my elbow notwithstanding, I'd love to come back for another round.

Came for a Bach party and had way too much fun. We had a hour of saber wars and another hour of archery. Playing both, we would play 10mins or so of mini games and challenges. Think games like capture the flag, or aiming for a target. We had a room to ourselves with little plush barriers as a shield. It sounded like other games were going (seems like many other rooms of fun!) Both games had safety gear and a guide who thoroughly explained the rules of how to not get hurt. Obviously if playing, you do need to be careful! My favorite was the archery! The arrows we shot had a marshmallow end so you wouldn't get hurt. So much fun! If you have the time, try it out!
