The food was delicious and I was very happy with everything I ordered! I was pleasantly surprised with the sushi rolls-they are great quality for the price and 8 pieces which have a great value. I could rave forever about the service but first I have to mention the experience! We were seen almost right away and the staff did not rush us at all considering the restaurant was at full capacity. You must go! We were just looking for a good dining experience and yummy food. This place was so fun. We got the fried lobster dish and the lobster was so crispy and the battered crust was honestly so incredible. I got 2 types of ramen to try-one was spicy miso and the other was a beef broth one. So fresh , large servings good prices. We got yellowtail nigiri and the fish wasn't too fishy and very fresh and I love ginger and that was very fresh and snappy too. wonderful service! This is not Japanese food. The noodles were undercooked and some are stuck together. The egg is not a five-minutes egg. The pork belly is not really Japanese style pork belly. I even doubt it is the belly meat. The soup was all wrong. The crispy tofu is not real Japanese tofu. The other dishes are all not real Japanese food. Even though you are not Japanese, if you want to run a Japanese restaurant, you should visit Japan and taste the real Japanese food, such as Ichiran Raman. At least, visit Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. Putting rice, fish, and seaweed together is not a real sushi. The price is not worthy. read more

Exceeded my expectations as soon as I walked in the door. From the outside this place didn't look like much but I was craving sushi so I thought I'd give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the dining area and as soon as I walked in customer service was top notch. The staff here were very attentive and happily answered my questions about the menu. I deviated from my typical fried sushi order and went for the Bemidji Roll. This roll did not disappoint and was just as delicious as it looks, the Wasabi/Sriracha ratio was perfect. I went last week with friends and we sat in the back room which was fun and cozy. We loved every specialty roll (we ended up ordering all of them but 2), as well as the tempura app. It's by far the best sushi option in Bemidji, and may not compare to sushi in San Francisco, but better than I expected for northern Minnesota. I was excited to hear that a real sushi bar was opening. I am from the west coast where sushi is in abundance and always delicious. We ordered California rolls both normal and spicy. Also an avacodo tempura roll. We were disappointed in size of the rolls for price. 3 California rolls fit into 1 tiny container. We are use to barely being able to fit 1 piece into our mouths. The regular California roll: again very small, crab was a chunk vs. Shredded (texture preference). Spicy california roll: this was our favorite of the 3 we ordered, but again lacking in portion size. The avocado shrimp tempura roll: good. They had all the sushi specific sauces and favorites. Presentation dine in is great, but take out is lacking. Takeout should be just as pleasing to the eye as dine in, paying the same price. Overall, flavors are good for being in the middle of the states. I ate here the other night with my boyfriend. The place is very small and has very small tables which could be an inconvenience in some situations, but I think it was ok, for ours as I am not super huge. My boyfriend did complain a little about it though. We had the spider roll and a salmon roll, and due to the combo roll deal were able to get both for 17$. Which is pretty great for sushi around our area. The spider roll was decent, definitely not the best though, it could've been a little warmer I think. I really enjoyed the salmon roll though! They put the raw fish inside the roll instead of on top like other sushi places I've been to; I really enjoyed this because the raw fish wasn't so overpowering then. The restaurant was very full when we got there. The two things that stood out for us were - 1) the concern of the waitstaff about a dietary issue. Our server checked several times with the chefs about the exact ingredients in the menu items and I appreciated this a lot. 2) the food was hands down delicious. The tempura was burnt with the shrimp browned to the point of burnt popcorn. When we finally got the roll. (They forgot one) it was so small it was laughable. When we told them of the missing roll they put us on the back of the list and after 15 minutes we cancelled it and left. Complete waste of time and money.
